This is the first installment of a series of videos we'll be showcasing from Queen Sirikit Botanic Gardens. And Dr. Piyakaset will be a principle botanist throughout some of these videos, so you'll be seeing more of him. Do enjoy this! Very special episode with 70 new plants species, messages of conservation, and a call to action!
I just shed a tear as he asked the young scientist to develop a limestone substitution. Man, this doctor's passion for what he does really came through in his request. Amazing thank you for sharing this.
God a 45 minute video of ANOTHER botanic garden?? Summer you are truly too good for us. Your work is immaculate!! Your hard work is truly going to pay off (if it isn’t already). I love getting to watch your amazing content every single day!!!
So pleased you're enjoying the longer form videos. They take a long while to edit; and this is DEFINITELY a passion project, so we'll see if it starts paying off financially. In the meantime, it's paying off through wonderful comments like yours.
Another great botanical garden tour with super knowledgable expert! I just want to shout out to Dr. Piyakaset for not just his expertise, for people from the USA and Europe, all these Latin names is a step up of your native language, but for us people speaking a set of completely different languages, for Dr. Piyakaset to be able to call these many Latin names really shows the depth of his passion and understanding over plants! And he just seems like a genuine nice and friendly person!

Greetings from the Maldives Summer! This is truly an impressive video, which I have watched all the way and believe me its a blessing for nature lovers like me. 😊
summer, this episode was terrific. when i lived in south florida i had several varieties of tropical rhododendrons but i have never seen Agapetes megacarpa. i think i need one!
I never (!) comment on videos. This however has been an incredibly in-depth, informative, well produced piece. I was looking for a detailed and well made documentary on tropical plants knowing that I was probably looking for something unlikely to find. I got what I was looking for. Many thanks! PS: Dr. Piyakaset looked very pleasantly surprised that wasn't just asked to guide some interviewer around, but moreover someone he could actually planttalk and share some knowledge with. He seemed super proud that he could actually share some very specific findings with a public audience who would actually know what he's talking about and appreciate it.
I thought I'd be skipping through some of it but no I was pretty fascinated by the whole 46 minutes. As an American, I love Thailand, and SEA in general. In fact I was in Chiang Mai on Jan 2020, hiked up the mountains there. It is so beautiful.
Thank you so much for sharing. This video is fascinating and I love how knowledgeable you both are about the species. Very informative. I always enjoy the field trips, at my desk with coffee in hand :)
So glad that I found your channel this time of lockdown in Chicago.. it took away my boredom and sadness about what is going on in the whole world right now! 🙂
It was super interesting learning more about limestone and why certain plants thrive on limestone. It was interesting that Dr. Piyakaset said that it didn't really have to do with ph levels. Thanks for this video, Summer! You ask such great questions:)
@@summerrayneoakes Ahhh, OK, cool! I've been experimenting with some soil amendments like pumice, charcoal, etc to see if the plants respond well. I'll hold off looking for limestone, though, after Dr. Plyakaset's plea to scientists to find a limestone alternative :) Thanks again, Summer!!
south florida has lots of areas with limestone outcrops and you can see many plants growing right out of the rocks. i have a ficus bonsai growing on a 16" limestone rock just sitting in a saucer of water. it has multiple trunks with Arial roots and about a 4' canopy. i have had it for over 20 years.

Glad you enjoyed. Agapetes has been a favorite of many commentors here! I hope you find one and do grow it
Thank you so much for doing these journeys and allowing us to come along! Keep doing what you do... it's important!
Thanks for the vote of confidence Edward!
Thank goodness for protecting wild areas
He is my favorite part! Plants second. Lol! I have a crush on him. Lol! So adorable AND smart! Great video! Makes me want to move. 🤗😂🌴🎍🌱🌸🌺💚💚💚💚💚💚
He's very engaging! There will be more...
It is so beautiful.
your amazing knowledge with a graceful presence...
Thank you for doing these. Absolutely fascinating and important! ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing. This video is fascinating and I love how knowledgeable you both are about the species. Very informative. I always enjoy the field trips, at my desk with coffee in hand :)
This a such a joy to watch, amazing plants and such interesting new finds, so great!! Thank you Summer, girl you are living the dream!!
It is so beautiful to see that several orchids in my collection are also living in the limestone garden in Thailand!
U always come up with some thing new & wonderful botanical gardens. ...👍👍
So glad that I found your channel this time of lockdown in Chicago.. it took away my boredom and sadness about what is going on in the whole world right now! 🙂
The knowledge of both of you just amazing thanks 👍😀🌿
I love these videos thank you for sharing with plant lovers! I need to find a parrot flower to add to my plant family.
Summer, this was a great video. Enjoyed it all. Thank you again for sharing. Plus... love your hair like that.
I wear my hair like that when I've been sweating like crazy from walking / hiking in the heat. haha. Glad you enjoyed :)
It was super interesting learning more about limestone and why certain plants thrive on limestone. It was interesting that Dr. Piyakaset said that it didn't really have to do with ph levels. Thanks for this video, Summer! You ask such great questions:)
Hi Sara, I thought that was fascinating too, but as he mentioned, the limestone eventually breaks down and provides nutrients, however.
I had that white powder tree fern in my backyard when I was a kid!!
south florida has lots of areas with limestone outcrops and you can see many plants growing right out of the rocks. i have a ficus bonsai growing on a 16" limestone rock just sitting in a saucer of water. it has multiple trunks with Arial roots and about a 4' canopy. i have had it for over 20 years.
OMG. Exactly I enjoyed watching your videos tour.. Keep it up its amazing you a channel about all plants.. Very inspiring..
Mu gurl Summer rly be out here posting full episodes! Loved this one, Summer!
So pleased you're enjoying!
WOW. i learnt a lot. thk u for showing us. So special many of e plants. 👏🏼👏🏼
I loved all of it! Wonderful job! You need a tv show!!!!
this is super interesting. 2 nd time i m watching this. Its so fascinating to see how plants adapt to different substrates.
thanks Summer. Do more tours like this. to see plants from wayout countries tt we cld probably never get to.
Exquisite. The natural look is definitely the way to go. Organized and staged looks are nice but I much prefer the wild and meandering paths.
Wow. Enjoyed watching it.
oooh i love that huge begonia .... meiyangensis ?? awesome huge leaves
its totally exciting to "stroll" along with you both through this botanic garden full of limestonespecies. i loved that creeping ficus and the adiantim cordatum too..
It looks like a world out of fantasy! It's interesting to hear that maybe plants are using limestones for like perch and does not really take nutrients from it. Great respect for this country to create this place.
jl cogito he said they get nutrients from the limestone
