Oh, I'd love to hear Geoff or Voiceplay do "Mad World!" Currently my favorite version is Adam Lambert's when he was on American Idol. I remember the show ran too long and his performance got cut off! They had to show it before the vote-off episode the next day! It was a bit of a mess, but the performance was SO GOOD! Simon Cowell gave Adam a standing ovation, which was pretty much unheard of at the time.

@@Starrynightdiner Are you a fan, perchance, of the Pirates of The Caribbean movies? If so, I strongly recommend going to a channel called "The Hillywood Show," and looking up their musical POTC parody. It's hilarious. As are their other parodies, almost all musical. They're a great channel!

This medley was about telling a story, based on Earl having had a health scare while on tour. Some gods of the underworld fighting over his soul, but Baron has the ability to give life back, so he was on the opposite side from the others. The other man is Earl's husband.

I have always been fascinated by how VoicePlay built a mini-movie from the medley.
I was so thrilled to see you come up with another VoicePlay reaction. I watch a lot of other reactors who also know about music because I know nothing. Many of them specifically talk about their arrangements and how complex and well thought out they are.
I’m a patron so I get to listen to the karaoke track. I don’t pick up on things the way those of you with musical training do but by listening to the karaoke track I can hear the background harmonies without being distracted by whoever is singing the lead. When I go back to relisten it’s always a better experience.
Geoff is on one side and is Baron. In the voodoo faith, he is called upon for healing and resurrection. He is often at the crossroads between the living and the dead. The other three are greedily awaiting Earl to pass away so that they can whisk him off to their various underworlds. He requires payment to let the person live, so the medallion that Nick, Earl’s husband, places around his neck is missing at the end. Geoff is also the last one to go.
I think my favorite part is when Eli gets in Geoff’s face and starts “We are the champions” and Geoff just looks over and sings “another one bites the dust.”😂
Geoffs rock scream in this one is so good😂💜

Earl has a phenomenal voice. I do miss him in VP.
Every time I watch VoicePlay's Queen in 5 Minutes, I am entranced by the vocals and the story. It is a chance to find a new unseen gem each time.
And yes, even songs that I don't like are revamped by VoicePlay's abilities. I think part of it is that they really take time to study and honor the original and then add their unique understanding to the arrangement.

My absolute favorite song of Queen is Don't stop me now too. Did you know that it appears in a ranking as the song that brings most joy to people? 5 months ago I went under surgery and the surgeon let me choose a song to calm my nerves in the OR. Of course i chose that one :)
Yeah, that high note from Geoff surprises a lot of people. I’d like to hear more rock like this from him. And Eli is absolutely in his element here. I’d really love them to do a cover of a full song that would take advantage of his rocker sounds.
I don’t know if people have mentioned this but always let a Voiceplay video play until you see the Patrons scrolling. They often have “surprise endings” like this.

How does his Patreon work? Because I only saw in the paid tiers that you can suggest a song but nothing about a guaranteed reaction.
Thanks for asking! It’s changed a few times as the community grew, but I think the current system is based on 1) several members supporting a request and 2) seniority. Members for 6+ months add requests to the list. Newer members work together to get requests on the list. He’ll give you the details.

So happy to see you come back to Voice Play- thanks! I have really missed your enthusiasm and great feedback. I am hoping to see more reactions to some of solo Geoff and Voice Plays more recent releases.
I love watching your reactions, because you have that extra level of musical knowledge to offer. And your instincts about the way different acapella groups work are spot on. As far as I know, Pentatonix and Home Free use the same production editors (from the same record company) for a lot of their songs, while Voiceplay are still fiercely independent and not signed to any record company. This gives them the kind of freedom to experiment with their sound and arrangements that the other groups don't really have. It's why they've crept up the ranks to become my favourite acapella band, ESPECIALLY in recent years, when they've really stepped up their game.
Every time I watch the medley I want them to do full covers of every song. I love Queen and I love Voiceplay. It's the perfect combination.

It's so good to see you reacting to VoicePlay again! We've missed you on some of their recent releases, not to mention Geoff's as well. While they haven't done any medleys recently, I've long thought that VoicePlay have always excelled at how they put them together. Most of the time the inital arrangement is done by one person, although once thats been distributed to the others there is often feedback and changes can happen then. That said, I've heard more of Geoff talking about his arrangement process that I have heard about Layne's, and this piece was arranged by Layne and Eli. So, there's that.
BUT. If you want to hear one of their cooler medleys (IMHO), then check out Trapped: Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes. That is a medley of Billie Eilish's music arranged by Geoff, but I swear it is more of a mashup than a medley. The way he interweaves songs is incredible, with the lyrics from one flowing seamlessly into another, while the backing vocals may be from something entirely different. It's crazy, and the video is also more or less a mini-'horror' movie. Even though it's an older piece, like this one, it's still one of my favorite arrangements of all times just due to the complexity of its structure.
That is exactly how i feel about Voiceplay too!

There is no such thing as too much gushing over Voiceplay! I was so happy to see this pop up on my suggestions I immediately had to switch over to it. It has been way too long since you did a Voiceplay song, so thank you for jumping on this one today. I wasn't a VP patreon when this video was released, so it may have been different back then, but now, typically, it is one person who is doing the arranging with feedback from the others once the arrangement is primarily complete. Both Geoff and Layne's medleys are stellar and so well put together that they sound totally organic. Please do more Voiceplay and Geoff soon! Geoff recently released a cover of Unshaken from the Red Dead Redemption 2 game and I think you would love it.

Really great reaction! VP put so much effort into their work! But you almost ended it too early! 😛Don't forget Voiceplay is sneaky, LOL! They sneak things in at the end, sometimes, so you need to watch to the end! And worst thing that can happen is you hear some more of their music! I can't wait to see you do some of their newer stuff. "Sleeping In The Cold Below" is amazing.
Earl, the guy in the bed, was a regular member of VP. Great voice. But Geoff is the star to me, as always. Love your enjoyment of them. Please don't stay away so long this time.

Passion. They radiate passion in their performances and you also have passion about music. That's the key.
This is how you make a narrative for a music video. IDK how they managed to pull this off, but it's bloody brilliant. Apparently, Earl had a medical emergency prior to the production so they decided to make it about him. If I understand it correctly (sorry if I got something wrong, I am notoriously slow), Earl's character goes into a coma. The guy who puts a pendant around his neck is Earl's IRL husband or boyfriend or whatever. Earl is now in limbo with four different deities from different cultures, all of whom have something to do with death. J is Anubis, the Egyptian god of the afterlife, he usually weighs the person's heart against a feather to see if it's heavy with guilt. Eli is Yama Nirvana, and Layne is probably Cerberus judging by the fur, tough to tell. They're all these cold-blooded judges and stuff. Geoff plays Baron Samedi, a Haitian deity known for controlling death and life, and he's more human than others, he can be subjective and he can be bribed, that's why they put money and stuff into people's graves. He takes a liking to Earl, and he notices a pendant when he touches his chin with a cane. The other guys are clearly annoyed with this familiarity, they want Earl in the afterlife. They even have a falling-out with Baron, everything complemented by the song choice, the lyrics are about different things but they all kinda make sense in this scenario. They attack Earl, but Baron protects his chest from other weapons with his cane. Earl wants to go back so he disintegrates the gods. Notice how the other three all take fighting stances but Baron is chill and not aggressive. When Earl wakes up (I love how the song choice is "Don't Stop Me Now" and it ends on the lyrics "I feel alive"), he no longer has the pendant on him, meaning that stuff could've been real and Baron took the shiny as payment for giving Earl another chance.
Freddie Mercury once said, "Do what you want with my music, just don't make it boring". I would argue it's in good hands here, that feels exactly like the kind of symbolic stuff he would do.

Dimash and Super Vocal Boys sang a Queen medley years ago on a Chinese tv show. He didn’t speak English yet but sang it really well.
But it’s difficult to get reactions to it published (as far as I‘ve heard) 😅

Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song. There’s an old quote from Freddie Mercury shortly before his death that went “Do what you want with my music, just don’t make it boring.” I believe Freddie would be very pleased with Voiceplay’s covers of some of the most iconic songs Queen has ever made.❤

when you go into changing song keys to fit together, reminds me of an Australian comedy group called Axis of awesome... they did a full comedy sketch on how its dead easy to right a pop song and played a heap using just 4 chords. should check it out if you get a chance

I absolutely stopped to read the title cards and grew excited. I love mythology, I knew who each of these were. (Well, not Layne's character, but I worked out that he's Cerberus.) Each are Death gods, but Geoff is the Haitian god of death and resurrection. Therefore, he's the only one who can bring Earl back, the last foe to face... literally, the Final Boss. The Baron can be convinced to return you to life by having enough will to live and a bribe. In Earl's case, the price was the gold medallion from the beginning, which is missing at the end. Freddie Mercury was a mythology nerd too, and he would be so proud.
If you like impressive and varied vocals, then I would suggest giving ADO a listen. She's a young Japanese artist with an impressive range in vocal styles. I think, "Tot Musica" and "Aishite, Ashite, Aishite" would be good showcases.
