- In this video we cycle the Four Rivers Route from Seoul to Busan in South Korea. A beautifully designed and built route that takes us on dedicated cycle paths from one end of the country to the other.
With plenty of great camp spots along the way, as well as good food and stunning scenery, we had a lot of fun riding this route.

More bike friendly countries equal happier, more relaxed, fitter, more free and healthier people. Thank you for sharing this beautiful scenery 🌳 ⛰️
For sure! It was such a pleasure to ride this route, so relaxed, and super happy 😊 glad you enjoyed it
It looked great, certainly a stress-free route! ;-)
Yeah it was very much a nice easy ride. Lots of fun though, and gave time to relax before the next adventure!
@@weridebikesplaces👍👏👏👏
I rode my bicycle four times. I'm planning to try again this winter. Thank you for taking pictures of Korea's beautiful natural environment.
Camping in the pavilion is really great. Like your video, we Koreans will preserve beautiful nature and bicycle paths well.
Thanks for watching! We had such a great time in Korea. I'm glad your planning on getting back on your bike 😁
Adding this one to the bucket list! Looks like a great trip.
Worth adding for sure! It's a super fun route
This looks like a great introduction to cycling in Asia. I think we might do this one, then maybe pop over to Japan and do some cycling there as well.
It's a perfect introduction route for sure. So nice to be away from traffic the whole way across a country. We got the ferry to Japan after too, but didn't do much cycling. Some amazing camp spots on the beaches of Kyushu
Great summary of the ride. It looks like you were on some trails we missed.
The famous Charlie himself! Thank you and riding with you guys really was a highlight of our trip
Ridden it 3 times and I'll be doing it again in 2024 :) Love it!
It's the second of your videos I watched and what a trip!
I've never been to South Korea and it was completely different to how I'd imagined the country. Truly a beautiful place and such great safe cycling paths. The food looked good too.
If you make it to Europe I'll be interested in how, in your eyes, it compares .
I'm a Brit living in France for 20 years and I've always thought the cycling infrastructure here was great but South Korea looks perfect.
Storm blowing today so your video was a perfect alternative to a ride.
Thanks.
Thanks for watching again! Yeah South Korea is amazing for cycling and a very fun and easy country to travel. We actually started our trip by riding from London to Istanbul across Europe, but didn't make any videos there. I think the bike paths in Korea are on par with the best in Europe, but I don't think you can beat Europe for culture. Crossing from country to country and cuisine to cuisine was a perfect way to start our trip
Another great video. Jorea is on my short list of places to go in the next year. Now I can't wait.
Thanks! It's such a fun ride and an awesome country
It's make me feel comfort. Thank you!
😊🙏
Great stuff guys. Really enjoyed that
Thanks mate 😁
Thanks for another lovely video 🙌
Our pleasure, thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Love your videos, you guys are so lucky to see all these beautiful countries!
Thank you! Yes, we really are. It's an amazing life 🤩
Cool first cyclist to show campsite thanks
Thanks for watching! Yeah the campsites were really good, we always enjoy a good camp spot and feel like it's hard to get good info on what wild camping is like in places so try to share it in all our vids
@@weridebikesplaces where did you find a list of campsites we plan to do the route
We didn't find any lists. We just camped in the huts that we saw along the way, and by the side of the path, these aren't actual campsites but no-one minds if you camp there. There are tonnes of these huts along the route. There is a Korean map all called Kakao that you can use to search for proper campsites though
Been there, done that. I've completed all the bike paths, in fact. Except for the one in Jeju.
You need not being anything but your credit card. Food and lodging are available most everywhere.
We like to camp most of the time, as shown in the video.. so it was necessary to bring camping equipment
@@weridebikesplaces On my last tour there earlier this year, I schlepped a total of 4kg. On a 16" wheel folder. 🔥🔥🔥
Is cooking really necessary on this route? Can you survive completely by just eating at the convenient stores or restaurants?
Nah you could get by without cooking if you wanted to, we just end up cooking to save money and because we camp so much. But even when camping you could just eat earlier in town, or take something with you that doesn't need cooking. There's plenty of towns and food along the route
Great video! I plan to do the same trip later this month
Thanks! It's a really fun route.
CAn you share which month of the year did you do the ride? HI, May I ask if there were a lot of bugs during the ride or at night? i am thinking if i need to get a mosquito head net. Thank you.
Hi, we did the ride during September. There were quite a few mosquitoes at night, but not while riding in the day, so we always used mosquito coils and repellent spray when we were camping. Not sure you would need a head net, just some good spray definitely.
@@weridebikesplaces thanks a lot!
I don’t like hot and humid weather, When is the best time of year to cycle this trail?
I think October would be great to ride it. It was still a bit hot during September when we were there. Or maybe earlier in the year like may. It will also get really cold in South Korea so depends how cold you like too 👍
Thank you for the video, and it's something that I will definitely try in near future. I'm thinking of flying to Korea, buying a bike and accessories, and leaving it with relatives when I'm done with the trip. I have question regarding your storage solution. I see that you have rear panniers so I assume you have rear rack. I also see that there is storage compartment in the front. How did you manage it? Was there a front rack that I missed? Was there other ways that you stored all your stuffs including camping gear? Also, was there a path that was too steep to bike and you had to walk your bike?
Hi, thanks for watching. Yes, we have both front and rear racks that hold our panniers. The front ones are just harder to see behind the bags. I also carry our tent on top of my rear rack.
There was only one hill that was too steep to ride up, and it wasn't very long. The whole route is quite flat, except for about two days worth of hills
Is this the route but the best majority of people will take if they want to cross the entire country? Is there any other competitive route? Is this also referred to as the grand slam route?
Yeah this is the most popular route, and I think the best to do the length of the country. Lots of people also do the east coast route which looks nice too, but doesn't go the whole country. Not sure if it's referred to or is part of the grand slam
Would you do this trip midsummer?
How bad is it during July?
I hear that monsoons and heat can be extreme.
But then the same could be said about mid summer in Italy, and it wasn't an issue for me..
Any suggestions are welcome
Hi! We rode it in September, which was quite hot and humid. It's definitely fine to ride during summer, but I'd prefer to do it in spring or autumn if I did it again. Mainly it just made the camping less pleasant, quite a few mosquitoes..
@@weridebikesplaces thank you for reminding me of mosquitoes)
Great video! Saw this on Korea Cycling Community FB page. Were you filming just with your phone? Ride safe guys!
Hi, thanks! Yeah just using our phones to film, and do the editing too
@@weridebikesplaces Cool! See you on your next video.
Great video. How did you get your bikes from from Busan to Seoul? I’ve heard that there aren’t many options unless you have a folding bike.
Hi, thanks! We got a bus from the northern terminal in Busan, and it was no problem. No having to take them apart, just put them straight under the bus. I think the train is pretty much impossible.
@@weridebikesplaces awesome, thanks. We’re doing the same route next April and are really looking forward to it
Oh great, enjoy! It's a really nice route
For someone who doesn't really enjoy camping do you have any idea about how much budget hotels are along the route?
Yeah we stayed in a couple cheap motels, they were around 40000won, which is about 25pounds. Always pretty clean and nice, and most little towns have a few of them
@@weridebikesplaces big thanks. Will look into this next spring.
Hey! Would love to ask a couple questions. I’m going to do this this monday
Hi! Happy to answer any we can! Best way to contact us is through our Instagram @weridebikesplaces
@@weridebikesplaces will do shortly!
@@weridebikesplaces just sent a message invite now! I await your acceptance:)
I'm going on this trip later this year. How long did it take for you guys to cycle?
We did it in ten days, which was pretty relaxed. It's such a nice route away from traffic for almost the whole time that you could do it quicker or slower and all would be enjoyable
Good
👍
Interested in what tent you had.
How tuff are those hills
How many days
Thanks for great video
Oh and was this June or July
It's a big Agnes copperspur, it's been a great tent. The hills aren't too bad, there's only a few of them and there's places to rest along them too. We did it in ten days which was pretty relaxed 😎 thanks for watching
We rode it in September. I think October would be the perfect month to ride it though, as we had some days that were a bit too hot
Well done , I am little bit jeaulous
Thanks for watching!
Hi, does anyone know where I can rent a road bike with accessories (lights, pannier bag and rack). My friend and I want to do this trail from Seoul to Busan. :) Do let me know if you know of good and inexpensive rental places.
Hi! We're not sure of any as we brought our own bikes and gear. However there is a Facebook group for Seoul to Busan cycling that should be able to help: 🙂 facebook.com/groups/543187712445164/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT
watching your vidio on for rivers south korea what time year thanks barry
Hi Barry, we rode the route in September. The weather was great, but some days maybe too hot. I think October would be perfect.
I am thinking of doing this, did you bring your own bike or were you able to rent it there?
We brought our own bikes, but we did meet some people who had hired bikes in Seoul. I'm pretty sure they were able to drop the bikes off in Busan also. It's a great route, you'll love it
@@weridebikesplaces thank you!
In order to avoid climbs, is it best to start in Seoul or Busan, please? I ride a Penny Farthing.
I think it will be pretty much the same no matter which way you go. Most of the route is quite flat, but there's a few hills around midway. A penny farthing!! That's awesome! How long are you thinking it will take you on it?
I can sit on 12km/h all day. So I’m thinking a week.
@@bakaracingteam you'll love the path, it's so nicely built and has some really beautiful parts. Enjoy the ride!
Thank you.
11:10 It's 1+1 drinks in Convenience store.
Haha, thank you! We were always missing the 1+1's. Korean convenience stores are the best 😄
How many days did it take you to do the trip..?
We did it in 11 days, which was a very relaxed pace. It's not a challenging ride, and it was nice to take our time and enjoy all the beautiful scenery along the way.
@@weridebikesplaces I think that would be the idea. I have a group of fifty something. We can cycle at most 150 km in total and they can only stay in motels . Do you have any contacts that we can rent bikes and carry out luggage services
We had our own bikes, but met a few people out on the route who had rented in Seoul, so there's definitely a few places there. There's plenty of accommodation along the route, they don't use google maps there, but have their own version called Kakao maps, which you can use to look up where to find places to stay, as well as it having a great cycling overlay that shows you the whole route
@@weridebikesplaces So you don't need to book in advance to stay at the hotels? I know you guys set up camps for some nights but do you think it would be possible to stay at a hotel every night considering it will take around 11 days to complete? And they allow bike storage? So many questions haha thanks for the chill and informational video! Will be doing it same time as you guys did (around September) :)
@@user-sc8cq5jo2t we didn't book any of the hotels, just turned up, which was almost always fine. Yeah you could stay in hotels every day if you like, but you might want to book ahead for some, as in some areas there will be much less choice. You can find hotels on the Korean map app, Kakao. We were always fine with bike storage, usually just locked in their carpark. Always happy to answer any questions, enjoy planning the trip!
Pepsi bad soft drink
Any soft drink is a good soft drink when you've been riding in the sun all day
@@weridebikesplaces why? you mean dehydration
Yes, dehydration and craving sugar (energy) after riding all day.
Came for the video, left because of the annoying music
Cool
