Great video!. Very informative. What is the brand and size of the handlebar bag which you are using?
Thanks! The handlebar bag is actually a custom one that Laura made for me. So are the jam jars. I'm very lucky 😊
There's some great bags out there though. I really like the buffalo bags
Great video, thanks for sharing. India will definitely be part of my itinerary (under construction).
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! It's a really great country to explore, and this coastal route was beautiful
Thank you for the quick concise , effective run down. One question. How do you keep your stuff from getting stolen in busier parts of Mexico? Did you bring the peanut butter jars with you when you left the bike places?
Hi! We're lucky that there's two of us, so usually one of us stays with the bikes if we're shopping or something. But when we are both away from the bikes, we just lock them, and try keep them in sight. The only things we take with us from them are wallet and go pro
Thanks, what is gearing - and did you find it low enough, and if not how low do you think you should go
I use 1x gearing, with a 36tooth on the front, and 11-42 on the back. I find it low enough, and like not having a front derailleur.
Thanks for making this really helpful. Do you have the model name of that sea to summit sleeping bag? I like that packed down size.
Glad it was helpful! Yes, it's the sea to summit traveller, but they may have changed this model now because mine is rated to 1degree, and I think the new ones are 7degree. Really good size and comfort though
@weridebikesplaces Thank you!
Thanks for this. Really useful video.
Thank you!
About the bike: I'm guessing you have 700c wheels. Has this been a problem in any part of the places you've traveled getting spare tubes or tires?
Hi! Yes they're 700c. Getting tubes for them has been pretty easy everywhere, the only problem is sometimes they don't have the right diameter, as we use 50mm tyres. Tyres are always a bit of a problem as there's a shortage of schwalbe marathons everywhere, so we just need to order online and get delivered to somewhere
Great video; very informative
Glad it helped!
Do u have a map where u went through exactly?
We don't have one, but if you google, four rivers route map, you will find plenty. We used Kakao maps, which is the Korean map app, when we were there, and it has all the bicycle routes on it
It looks like you had an epic time. Thanks for sharing !
Was definitely an epic time!
ชอบภาพที่เห็นต่างชาติสาดน้ำเล่นสงกรานต์ค่ะ น่าสนุก
Very fun!
Subscribed you mate , going to do a ride from ho chi min soon
Cheers! Cool, enjoy the ride, hopefully not too hot this time of year
How was the traffic/quality of the ride? I met a guy who'd biked around the world who said Indonesia was one of the worst places he biked just because of the population density and heavy traffic/lack of a shoulder...
The traffic was always pretty busy, but never fast, and always gave plenty of space as they are used to all sorts of things on the roads all the time, much like the rest of Asia. The road quality varies, from brand new, to absolutely terrible. So the actual ride quality isn't the best, but it's a fun place to ride due to the landscape, culture and people. Because of the population density there are so many small back roads to explore, or you can take one of about 3 highways of different busyness and quality on any route.
@@weridebikesplaces thx
Outstanding! Loved every minute of it. I've been on a lot of those same trails. Greetings from Illinois. Stay safe and ride on.😎
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed watching. Some amazing trails out there. Same to you 🚲🙌😀
I just completed Mumbai to Goa on a road cycle with the pannier bags, thanks for the inspiration, helps!
Awesome! Such a good route. How'd you like it? Glad we could give inspiration, that means a lot 😀
@@weridebikesplaces Amazing! such less traffic & so scenic, definitely doing more of it in the future :)
Love to hear it! We will be back in India soon for sure, one of our favourite countries of our whole trip.
@ do message if possible if you’ll come to mumbai, would love to host you guys
@@mohitjaisinghani3035 thanks will do!
Biking those trails are a good way to spend a lifetime. It seems like quite a few Europeans have been biking through Chicago during the past few summers.
The trails were definitely the best part. We met a few Europeans out there, but we are Aussies ourselves 🙂
Are you from Australia? Accent sounds like that.
Yep!
Looks like fun!! My wife and I are planning a trip to Japan and Korea next September. We are seasoned cycle-tourers and we're curious how many days you spent on this Four Rivers Route. Were the shelters that you slept under intended for tents or were they just shelters that you adapted for tenting? We are starting in Japan and are thinking of taking the ferry from Fukuoka to Busan and renting bikes there, then cycling it south to north. Any thoughts?
Hi! It's such a fun route, you'll love it. We took about 12 days which was pretty relaxed, it's not a challenging ride. The shelters weren't meant for tents, we just sied them, but I think lots of people do and it's not a problem, just set up at sunset. There are a couple campsites along the way too. Download Kakao maps, it's very helpful as Google maps doesn't really work there. I'm not sure about any rental companies in Busan but there probably are, I know there's a few in Seoul. We got the ferry to and from Fukuoka as well, it's really simple.
How dangerous is the traffic? Would it possible with a small kids with a trailer. Avoing big streets of course
I wouldn't recommend Vietnam as a place to ride with small kids, or a trailer. The traffic is ok when you're on your bike and are aware, but it comes from all directions, especially in the cities
It's not always possible to avoid big streets
Hey. Do you have any coordinates or other reference to those nice gravel roads you did? Im flying with my bike to Dubai in a few hours and have four weeks before i have to take a flight back from Abu Dhabi. I want to spend most of my time in Oman
@@tihomirrhey! Here's a link to our komoot GPX, www.komoot.com/tour/1012684578?ref=atd And here is the Google maps coordinates to two of the best gravel roads we rode, both south of muscat 23.4813081, 58.6773834 23.251572, 58.836494 Also, if you look up Edge Cycling, which is just on the west of Dubai, they know all the best gravel routes around there. @ Yep in Florida now, it’s going amazing!
Nice! Florida has some great trails. Watch out for those gators bro!
Great video. Keep them coming. I commend you for passing over the McDonald's cheeseburgers, but immediately after that comment, you mention American snacks you picked up which are probably even worse than the cheeseburgers. But I do believe you've earned those!
Haha, it was a rare time that we passed on cheeseburgers, and we have eaten sooo many American snacks. Definitely a sugar overload here, especially when so many small towns only have dollar general as their supermarket, with no fruit and veg..
Your perseverance is admirable.
🙌
Great trip!
Thanks!

Oh I was scared it would be really Hilly/ mountainy routes but the seem flat! Do you think a beginner could also do it? :)
Laos is really hilly in the north, but not as much south of Vientiane. Yeah I think a beginner could probably do it, you would need to be able to ride about 60kms a day, in the heat. Thailand would be much more beginner friendly, as there are more places to stop for shade and cold drinks during the day, and more accommodation available
God you must be missing the thai food by now !

Love these videos! Do you have a page or post where you list out your gear? Specifically I'm wondering what camera/equipment you use for making these videos. Thanks!
Hi Matt, thanks, glad your enjoying them! I don't have a list up yet, I'm going to do a full pack list video soon. But as for camera, I just use a GoPro, and edit the video on an app on my phone. So nothing special, try to keep it simple while we're on the road. Next video will be out in a week or so 👍
@@weridebikesplaces Cool! So to capture video where the camera is looking forward while you're riding, you just hold the GoPro on some kind of handheld stick? Or is it mounted on your bike somehow?
We do both. Sometimes just hold it in our hand, and will keep it in our pocket while we ride, which lets us film to the side and behind and stuff, and also we've got a mount that's screwed under our Garmin mount on the front, that's great for when there's lots of traffic or more technical riding
How many days did this route take? Do you have a GPX for the route?
Hi, we took about 3 weeks to do this route, including days off. Here's a link to our komoot GPX: www.komoot.com/tour/1059025197?ref=atd
@@weridebikesplaces Thank you so much!
@@weridebikesplacesThree of us are doing this tour, starting this month 31/12/24. Your video is inspiring; I’ve downloaded your Komoot map, too. Thank you and ride on!
Awesome! You'll have the best time! Enjoy all the amazing food! The small stalls in the rural towns are the best, and the people are always so happy to meet you. So nice to hear our videos have inspired you ☺️
@@weridebikesplaces @weridebikesplaces Yes, your videos are inspiring. I've taken a Go Pro on tour, but I even found that too much, let alone shooting drone footage. You guys have put so much time into it; only those who do similar activities understand the recurring efforts involved. Your drone footage is stunning. We rode the mid-east coast of VN in 2023, from Siem Reap to Saigon in January 2024, and around the VN Mekong Delta in July 2024. I would love to do an extended tour like you guys; however, at 67, I am unsure how my body would hold up camping. As you know, Credit Card touring is affordable in SE Asia. It may be the option we must take, but I would prefer wild camping--surely the best experience. Best wishes and safe travels! 🚲🙂
Great video. I'm thinking of cycling southern Thailand from Bangkok in Jan 2025. Did you guys get off the plane at Bangkok airport, assemble your bikes from bike boxes at the airport, and then ride off?
Hi, thanks! Yeah, we rode straight out of don mueng airport, which was pretty easy. It might be a bit harder if you're landing at Suvarnabhumi, but they do have the SkyTrain, you'd have to check the bike rules for that.
Did you bring your own bike, or did you manage to rent there?
We brought our own bikes. We did this ride as part of our round the cycle world trip

Malaysia is a gem, really glad you guys enjoyed your time here.
Such a gem! Thank you, we loved it
Beauitful country one could probably spend the rest of their life just touring in usa. Looking forward to see how u get to New York
Could definitely spend a long time exploring here! So much so we decided to extend our trip after new York and are currently riding south to Mexico City! Hope you enjoy the vid getting into NY, having some tech difficulties at the moment but it'll be ready in a few weeks
Ive never heard of this route look great. U mentioned u had family along this route but is there any reason you chose Great Northern over The Divide?
This route took us from west to east, as we were headed to the east coast of the USA, and the divide goes straight down south. We'll be back one day to do the divide I think, with much lighter set ups
Saya dari Lombok, saya sangat suka video anda, saya sering keliling Indonesia memakai sepeda
So happy that you enjoyed the video! Indonesia is so beautiful, especially Lombok, and a great place to explore by bicycle. We hope to come back one day ❤️
Saya tunggu
I'm terrified of horses but they don't actually attack people do they? It's just if u go near them & they don't like you?
No they definitely keep their distance from you, they didn't bother us at all. It was really nice having them around, they were actually really peaceful
How do you plan you're route phone bike computer or app?
We use komoot, as well as checking if there are any good trails in the area we are riding in. And if komoot is taking us on a lot of roads that look busy, we try check if there's better options with google maps street view if possible. We find it easiest to plan ahead for a week or so, then look closer at routes each day
Thanks a lot, such a great video. I'm also thinking about doing the route. Two questions: 1. Would you recommend bringing your own bike or did you rent it? 2. If I shorten the routes and plan in advance, so you think it is possible to always stay in accomodations? I don't want to bring camping gear, so I would rather adjust the tour in order to stay in homestays or guest houses
Glad you enjoyed the video! 1- I'd definitely recommend bringing your own bike. I think it might be hard to rent a bike capable of doing this route and I'd want to take something that I'm used to and comfortable on. 2- I think it may be possible to only stay in accommodations, but maybe not by shortening the route, it could involve doing a couple longer days. There are accommodation options in some of the areas we camped, but other days camping was the only option unless riding a lot further. If you talk to the team at triple cats cycle shop in Chiang Mai, they will be able to help you customise the route to what you want best 👍
Thanks a lot for the quick answer and your advice - highly appreciated!
hello! thank you for documenting your rides across the world, your videos are my escape from life recently... cant wait for my first adventure.. curious how you travel with bikes on planes, if you need a bike bag or otherwise, much love - v
Thank you and that's so nice to hear! Glad you're enjoying the videos. To put them on planes we box them up in bike boxes we get from local bike shops, the ones that bikes come in when they are newly delivered. You'll have to take your front wheel and handle bars off to fit them in, and check the weight allowance for the airline you're flying. Some have better limits/are cheaper then others to add oversize baggage. Enjoy planning your first adventure!
@@weridebikesplaces thank you for your response, glad to hear bike boxing works well for international travels too, you have given me so many ideas! Cant wait!
Any tips about India after watching you're India video fancy doing the same.
Only that I think the west coast where we rode is much more enjoyable to cycle than the rest of India.. try cycle early in the morning because the heat can get pretty intense, and it's a beautiful part of the day anyway, take a water filter, so you can filter tap water and always but plastic bottles. other than that, just enjoy all the delicious food, and all the great interactions you'll have with the people there, be open to meeting lots of new people because you'll find yourself with a million new friends. It was an awesome trip
