You stopped at Hi Ren? Dive deeper into his catalogue please! Chalk Outlines, The Tales, The Money Game series... - and more Big Push - War Pigs, Swan Song, Bongo Bong He can't be pigeon holed. It's all so good - indulge
I said the same. How do you listen to this then quit??
Here is some additional information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician; born in Wales in 1990 or ‘91 (depending on which source you cite), he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints.
Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad."
Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity
Hey Jens, it's good to see you here! After My Reaction to this, I found out that Ren fans are such great people. Such passionate people, people like myself who have had their health struggles, physical or mental. (or both) A lot of time mental goes along with the physical. I was so excited after this reaction that I couldn't wait to do another, so I reacted to Ren's Trilogy- "Jenny's Tale, Screech & Violet's Tale". I think you saw and commented on it? Anyway, OMG! I feel so blessed to have found this GEM. I feel like I am a richer person for having seen this for myself. It's kind of like having the opportunity to stand in front of "The Mona Lisa", to experience the beauty, the sheer fantasticness of something so grand, that many will not get to enjoy. I have shared this everywhere I could to bring it to others, it's something that most of us can relate to on some level. Cheers!
Ren has had so many challenges in his life (Which makes his resilience so impressive). His best friend Joe Hughes took his own life in December 2010 which led to Ren's beautiful song and album Freckled Angels, in Joe's honour
@@TheSpeakEasyLounge It's cool to see a reactor responding to a viewer on a completely different reaction channel. It shows that you're not one of those "I don't watch reactions myself" reactors, which has always felt like a really pretentious mindset.
Fuck Sony!
It's like he said... The brighter the light shined the darker the shadow was cast... Keep your head up Ren, you've touched the hearts of human beings all over the planet with this masterpiece ❤
I find it interesting when people like you watch Hi Ren. You're typically super interactive with your piano but Ren is so damn captivating 9min goes by and you realize you've barely touched your instrument.
We need more artists like Ren. The level of artistry, passion, and raw talent is breathtaking.
This was the 4th take. He wanted to play it all the way through, uncut, and it took 4 tries to get one he was satisfied with. Marvelous.
And there are MAYBE three bum moments musically, and one of the ones I’m thinking of is just the string ringing before he starts the outro lol. It’s insane. It’s virtually a dead perfect take.
@@loadedorygun Yeah he hits a couple bum notes on the guitar through the whole thing, but that's it. And hell, they don't hurt the performance at all anyway.
@@Bobbias Honestly, if anything I feel the few off notes adds elements of discord that enhance the mood of the piece.
@Bobbias the off note made it more powerful to me. Gave a stronger sense of chaos and raw emotion
@@Bobbias I think those are on purpose. It adds to the whole theme
I am so happy to have just found this reaction to Hi Ren! You are a conscious reactor and your enthusiasm is delightful. I enjoyed seeing your reaction to this amazing performance.
Thankfully Ren has a healthy and still happily growing catalogue; The Big Push also has lots of good stuff on their separate UA-cam channel. I know you will find many performances that will interest your mind and stir your emotions. Please, do yourself (and us!) the favor of seeing and responding to more of Ren's work.
I'm 77 and my husband is 81 and we have experienced a few obvious musical geniuses in our long lifetime so far. We have absolutely no doubt that Ren is a musical/lyrical master and an enlightened thinker/story teller who will be studied and loved for decades to come. We are so happy to be alive to be experiencing Ren in real time! Please give us more of your reactions to Ren and The Big Push, and thank you again for both of your great reactions so far💜
I couldn’t love this comment any more if I tried 🥰 Please do react to more, Ren is a musical, lyrical & artist genius and one hell of a human being 😊❤
I came to your channel after catching your reaction to the “Wade in the Water” video. You bring an incredible enthusiasm and musicality to your reactions, and you have a great talent for timing your pauses for comments! I discovered REN only a few months ago, and have been all the way down the rabbit hole with his former group ‘Trick the Fox’ and ‘the Big Push’ as well as his own music. He is enormously talented, and works very hard at his craft. He enjoys collaborating with other artists. He has just released a hip hop/rap album, just to say he can do it. He’s working now on some remixes, some beautiful ballads, and more collaborations. I love thoughtful, intelligent, and musically knowledgeable reactors who can share my excitement with music. Thank you!
💯💯💯 THIS!
Everything about this project is perfectly done. You mention theater. From the changes in lighting, the Rens turning to address one another, to the fact that "good Ren" constantly looks at his fret board out of insecurity in his ability while "evil Ren" is confident and maintains eye contact is completely intentional. I don't think I've ever seen more attention payed to detail.
This isn't my favorite Ren piece, but it's by far the most impressive thing he's done as an overall work of art.
Ren is one of the best songwriters alive today, and i will die on that hill
You do not stand alone.
Room on that hill for me?
I'm down.... Who are we fighting? 😂
You'll die of boredom due to a lack of attackers.
@@wolfgangwalk337 I won't be bored, I'll be with fellow Ren'Aissance People! 😂
TM Ren'Aissance reserved by me to give to Ren as an offering from a mortal.
His medical backstory is key to understanding this song.
He is currently in Canada receiving long-term medical treatment.
This is his own story about his struggles with mental illness that got worse after being bedridden for 23 hours a day. He was continuously misdiagnosed until he finally discovered that he was suffering from Lyme disease. This is the most amazing performance I have ever seen... period! I love good storytelling, creative genius, and poetic lyricism... this video checks al three boxes! Well done Ren... absolutely connected and respected!
Most people with Lyme’s are misdiagnosed because it can be almost impossible to detect so no major surprises there apart from perhaps that it went on quite so long.
Lyme’s is known as the great pretender because it’s’ symptoms mimic those of so many other diseases.
There is no one clear set of symptoms for Lyme’s it affects people differently and some people it doesn’t seem to affect at all.
This Man Is AWESOME..NOT ONLY for his Music BUT For His message &&& Wake Up to Me...I'm64 && almost bed ridden for 2 years....Went to Lots of Drs. They told me I was OLD & " Shit Happens"...have 2 Dogs both got Lyme..found out a year ago..the Vet tested ( dogs fine)... Heard REN & his Story...2 weeks ago went to DR asked to be tested for LYME...I have it..
@@supertuscans9512 Well said. The depiction of a hospital room here reminds me of my old local hospital, in the UK 45 years ago!
So sorry to hear about your ongoing struggle to get the help you need. I thank the Universe for Ren’s message at this time. There is clearly something at work that transcends Ren. He has tapped into a higher frequency and is reaching out to all of us to help us connect to this frequency. It’s crucial for so many of us, myself included. 🙏🏻❤️

Hey also, Ren said in a post on his UA-cam channels community tab that if reactors get a copyright strike, appeal it and it’ll be approved. He wants people sharing and reacting to his stuff. Serves to spread his music further and to a wider audience. Being he’s not industry, he really has to depend on that vehicle of advertisement. So no worry about pauses!
He calls his music BARDCORE.
Ren is a musical chameleon.
I also recommend Chalk Outlines (live), and trilogy of Jenny, Screech, and Violet's Tale (as one piece, but in THAT order).
Bardcore is so fitting. He truly feels like what I imagine a bard to be. I just found him and so far, everything I've heard, I love.
Ren is a busker. I think his time busking gives him that edge on these live one shot performances he does. I would recommend Chalk outlines live as well. He has a gift for it. A modern day bard.
He’s way more than just that. Ren does have the wandering , strumming minstrel thing that he can do but he’s way more than that. His rap is top notch and his blues is off the charts.
Chalk Outlines (Live) is a must see if you are a Ren fan. Very sad, yet hauntingly beautiful.
he’s a good busker like starry night is a nice painting. 😂 I’m no expert but I’ve seen a fair bit of European busking and yeah some were really good but this is like busker fantasy. You know, you’re at a n outdoor cafe on a pedestrian square and he sets up right nearby. For the next hour you keep ordering shot after shot just to hold the table and watch. A once in a lifetime thing. That’s Ren.
I love that he calls his style Bardcore.
It resonates. I can’t watch it, listen to it, without welling up. Often tears stream. Sometimes it’s not even the poignant lines. Sometimes it just the verse when he sings and his voice soars. It’s a very special piece of music.
The fact that he did this in one take still blows my mind
The majority is a live one take performance! He and his videographer Sam, with 3 cameras, did 4 takes and used that 4th take for the majority of it. The other takes were used for edits nearer to the end with the differing camera shots when he gets up.
+Sam needs some praise too he is a great artist in his own right.
The man shines like the sun in his brilliance.
I just watched your reactions to The Big Push and also Ren! Please react to more of their work. Both have sooo much music and your reactions were awesome!
I respectfully agree ❤ your reactions, talents and knowledge are brilliant.
He just dropped a retake on Bittersweet Symphony which is the bomb
Having fought in battles similar to REN I find serenity in this video. I envy his courage and willingness to share his human vulnerability. I have learned that the best revenge is living life well and this realization has helped loosen the rope. Shalom!
Same and agree 💯
Ren talked about this song in his Twitch stream back in December. He said he originally wrote it a few years ago but recently said he didn't like it so he went to the beach down in Brighton for a few weeks and rewrote the entire thing. Just watching the waves crash along the shore made it's way into the song. "I will make waves". Originally he said this song had a much darker ending, which I won't go into. This is masterful and I thank you Ren, for this true art piece. Thank you also for your reaction.
My name is Michael and I'm a serial Hi Ren reaction watcher. If you'd like to join my 10 step program to overcome your Hi Ren reaction watching habit...
Na... I'm still in waaaay too deep.
This reaction was the first I've seen where someone knew who Ren Gill was in advance, had no doubts about his capacity and couldn't wait to go for the ride.
This is a highly intelligent man who has honed his skills in a way that has been mostly lost in todays world. He has diversified his skill and trial by fire in front of audiences on the street. Writing what he wants and being a modern day Poet Bard musician producer. Good health to him☮️
Loved your reaction. I could see how you felt about this and i agree with you. Ren is genius where music is concerned, and this was a little gem of a creative masterpiece. You have a subscription from me, thanks
I think this is a masterpiece, it not only transcends musical genres, it also transcends art forms. It is a stunning piece of performance art, his characterisations of the voices in his head, with his body language, and the difference in cadence and dynamics are mesmerising. The video is also visually compelling, with the setting and the flickering lights when the darker side is ranting.... its so multi-layered it keeps giving, each time you experience it... and as with all excellent art, it has a powerful message. I've not even mentioned the poetic rhymes and rhythms, the alliteration, the outstanding guitar playing, and his singing voice soars when he lifts in the penultimate movement.
Really great reaction - you were smiling the whole way. Thanks ❤ Hope you’ll react to more Ren “masterpieces” e.g. The Tales of Jenny and Screech and Violet.
This was so good! More Ren reactions, please and thank you! ❤
Loved your reaction! Totally agree that this a live-performed theater piece, not just a song in a music video. I think years from now people will still be analyzing this classic piece of art that brings together his multiple talent on guitar, vocals, musical composition and arranging, lyrics, story telling, rapping, acting, production, in a powerful personal message that connects with people. I heard 'Hi Ren' came to him all at once, conceived within a 24 hour period, and he produced the video and mixed the audio himself, with the help of a few friends. I think he had a lot of ideas that had been brewing for a while, and then suddenly the planets aligned, and he did something very, very special and the world is a better place for it.
More Ren!
Yes!!! I have been waiting for this! He is a musical chameleon. The problem with Hi Ren is that it is too good, too complex to do it justice in a single reaction beyond the message. That is why it is so great to get so many different perspectives. His shorter pieces are equally complex, but, well, shorter. There isn't any miss in his back catalogue. You could just puck pot luck and have something great to explore please come back to him?
Ronnie and Ren to me are like the two sides of the same coin! They are so complementary! Live that they are blowing up at the same time.
You should definitely see his song: "The Tale of Jenny and Screach (full)", but it has to be the "full".
It's definitely a masterpiece.
Please do more Ren, the list of gems is endless!
I love your reaction (and your t-shirt😊). Your delight in Ren and the recognition of his talent brought me so much joy. Subscribed. I will check out your suggestions. 🩵🩵🩵
This is THE performance right now (it's not just a song) just started your reaction, cant wait to hear your take!
Really enjoyed your reaction. I agree, it is a piece of art, theatre, the acting and the moods that are set. Brilliant
Amazing boy... It made me cry.. Very impressive. Thank you for the video.
That "boy" is 31... but I get it. He looks way younger
@@redbandita020 Ok, a young man then :)
I appreciate this song on a personal level, but it is so fantastic seeing the responses from actual musicians who can identify and appreciate the technical skill and talent. Thank you!
I love this kid. He has sent me on this fantastic journey through his playlist and I have found some real gems. Thought provoking gems that get me right in my feels. And it is funny that Ren has shown up on the radar, my radar, in a time needed.
I love the theatric and honestly I dont want to just listen to a sterile track when I think of him. His live set and stage with the camera person is whole package. I love it.
Sony music I hear dropped him...pfft. Maybe that is a blessing for us and for Ren.
I have watched so many reacts...it is crazy. And a charming couple did a react and his sweet wife I think put it best for me, "I just want to give him a hug and tell him (Ren), thank you."
Thanks for the react....good one.
If you can’t deliver the goods no record company is going to keep you on.
They’re running a business not a charity.
Ren has a Twitch video on his channel where he shared his purpose in writing this song. It's less than 10 minutes long and really worth the watch.
I loved your reaction. I’ve seen probably 100 of them and when you paused just to laugh and say I love this I subscribed.
I loved your reaction! It was like a proud "father" moment. ❤
Loved the reaction!
I first watched this video in Filmmaker's reactions with a very different perspective (like using flickering lights during the chaotic parts). Loved your insight from the musician's standpoint. And I absolutely agree that it feels very theatrical and this is why I loved this music video in the first place.
Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person
First of all Have a Merry Christmas Music Shed🎄🎁❄️
I discovered REN about 5 months ago and HI REN touched me so much. He’s truly a musical, lyrical genius helping others suffering with similarities🎉🎉💜💜
Mwa!
Love your reaction. I was so impressed that I actually started listening to music again which I hadn't for years. I would bet that you'd love his Trilogy of Jenny and Screech. It's like a traveling bard telling tales across land about the people he met along the way.
The way I think to describe this is introspective art.
Loved the moment when you found layers beyond the voices of doubt.
Ren is truly a beautiful soul! I feel blessed to have been following him for several years! He is the modern-day Minstrel poet bard! His empathy and dedication to truth is his best quality🌿💔
I love me some REN ✨🎶😉✌🏽music is life!🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I think you hit on part of the excitement-his skill is such that he needs no adornment beyond that which he wants to give it like a great room or some of his own backing vocals and beats. You grasp the rarity of the talent, the completeness of his vision and execution, right away. Not comparing catalogs or talents one to one, but the person who comes to mind is prince. He knew what he wanted it to look and sound like, and usually took care of all that himself, whatever it was.
Rens Back on 74 / Message In A Bottle (Live retake) and Fred again mash up will blow your mind
After many many years finally I saw some good and original art
So good to see you again. as the wheel has turned once again bringing you back into view. The last time was with the Dimash adventure, another exceptional talent, both messengers with different angled approaches. Our Star children have come to teach and to heal. When I was with CBS before Sony, I sought out options. The talent industry no longer developed talent and it's only gotten worse. For all about the internet I hate, it has brought joy in finding the exceptional.
You have to check out his trilogy of Jenny, screech, and violets tale. It is also a masterpiece
I just found your channel last night and was loving what I’ve seen so far, and when I woke up today seeing you’ve done Hi Ren made me so happy; this song is amazing, and I get chills every time I hear it. He’s an awesome talent, and he’s been making the rounds online connecting with his audience so you know that he’s a genuine soul. Thanks for the great content!
Love all your content and the layers of the onion you peel!! Can't wait to see your review of Tyrese and Lenny Kravitz-Dont think you ever loved me. So much soul and blues! The composition and arrangement is brilliant! Instant classic! It's right in your wheel house. Keep up the amazing work! 💯
Chalk Outline sung by Ren and Chinchilla is also live as many of Ren's recordings are. Just like he says in Hi Ren, he's a genius. His following has exploded in the last few months. I'm all in. ❤🎶👍🏼🤩
id love to see you do more reactions of ren either solo or with the big push his band members are full of talent too
he should do a theatre tour...some sonic shakespeare. I hear so much sting but so much sound and feel its like synchronicity symphony. Its what you said he just has it...improv/ jazz level in moment one take touch. So many layers really facinating creative process going on incredible.
I loved your reaction to this masterpiece! Why haven't you done more reactions to his art - there are so many great performances from him as well as with his band the big push - covers and original as well as other collections with other artists
“Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day.
Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy.
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world.
Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).”
His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great.
Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” "War Pigs," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive.
Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work.
What a lovely reaction. Thank you for your thoughts and your tears. Bless you.
WoW... that was deeper than deep. Performing arts personified.
Immediately wanted to play along on that piano and resisted... I don't know how you did it...
😂🤣😂🤣
You should watch his interview with Justin Hawkins. His story is so heartbreaking and inspiring.
My first comment when I initially stumbled upon Ren back in Dec 2022 was this, and 300 reaction videos later, I still stand by it: "I have never wanted to, nor have I ever seen a Broadway show...I would see this Broadway show! The music, the lyrics, the passion, the struggle, the perseverance...and the soliloquy at the end was pure beauty. This is a Masterpiece!"
Thank you, Ren
More Ren and more of the big push❣️
We ALL have this inner-battle, maybe not to this extent, but we ALL do. "You're not Good enough, good looking enough, smart enough, talented enough, strong enough, etc.". Ren is a Poet, a composer, a songwriter, a musician, a singer, a rapper, an actor.....an Artist.
As long as people listen to music this will be played and played and played
I hope you going to do more Ren and The big Push reactions. I love the live versions.
It's what's known as 'creative genius'.
Great reaction. If you would like more theatre then you could watch his trilogy, 'Jenny & Screech (Full)'. If you would like to hear something more traditional but equally brilliant you could try, 'Chalk Outlines' or 'How to be me'. Thanks again.
I like 'Chalk Outlines' a lot, but 'How to be me' is next level. I was moved to tears just like with 'Hi Ren'.
The world needs more Ren, Ren´s, RENewal.
Just doing a deepdive in ren and I just spotted that you reacted to him busking in ep 109 2 years ago.
Great reaction. Thanks.
the more u look into his life, the more u understand why and how he wrote these songs! by the way the tale of Jenny and screech all 3 parts should be next! hugs all around
When all parts of yourself, including your world, are stripped away, and you find that there is just you, your fear, and self doubt. Bc they are eternal/immortal. They cant be vanquished, not permanently. They will always return. All we can strive to do is deny them power. The same is true for regret, guilt, and all other specifically human conditions. Just keep dancing everyone. Love y'all
Incredible piece of art ❤
I plan to email you with screenshots of his words. You can't add them here. I'd like to share my story as well. I think it would resonate with you.
That being said, I want to thank you. Since I discovered this video more than a year ago, i have seen MANY reaction videos, and most of them miss the mark. Either they try to break down what he is trying to say without asking key questions, and sound as though they've got it all figured out (which, admittedly, we can agree thats part of the beauty of music - we can all connect on our own level and find our own meanings in the songs 🤷♀️); or, they don't hit on key musical contributions to the "theater" of whats happening. It's frustrating at times, because I feel like some of the things they glaze over are essential.
You are the first reactor I've heard mention the classical guitar. I've been waiting for just one person to acknowledge the juxtaposition of this choice. I feel like it was an intentional style choice that very few appreciate. After watching your reaction to The Big Push's performance of Wade in the Water/Trouble so Hard, this is my second viewing of your material. I watched as you paused and picked apart, piece-by-piece, every sound and emotional vibration The Big Push expounded.
I started this video asking out loud, "PLEASE! Please mention the classical guitar." The nylon strings were the first thing you pointed out. I knew then, you were listening - not JUST with intention - but with your musical soul. Thank you.
I also want to say how much I appreciated you holding back in those moments when I was sure you were about to pause the video. I could see and feel the struggle. I understand. Its so much to process, and it all happens at once, like a sensory overload. I truly believe he did that intentionally. It conveys the same sensory overload that someone who struggles with delusions would experience in these moments. You caught that. Again, thank you.
I look forward to spending more time with your channel. Thank you for you insightful contributions.
I've watched a LOT of reactions to this amazing song over the past couple of weeks, and this one is my favorite. Fun to watch you enjoy it and cheer Ren on and experience all it's ups and downs.
This is a true masterpiece!
Great reaction.
Ren's talent can burn down the Whole Music Industry of the Americans just by whistling
This is a very 'complete' piece of work - the words, the ideas, the music, his voice, and the videography - they are all aligned and complementary to his message. It's a remarkable performance, and a very theatrical one, in its way.
Much of what he has written is in very metrical blank verse - iambic pentameters to be precise: five pairs of beats per line, dee-dum-dee-dum-dee-dum-dee-dum-dee-dum. This is the basic verse structure that Shakrspeare used throughout his dramatic works. It's a metre that is very aligned to the natural rhythms of English, to the point that it's easy to forget that it is verse. Like Shakespeare, when Ren breaks his rhythm, he does so with intention, to draw our attention to something important. He also draws attention to the song itself, just as Shakespeare would occasionally remind his audience that they were watching a play, even though they were engrossed in the story. Finally, Ren's use of language and imagery is poetic, and incredibly visceral in places; and again, he reminds me of Shakespeare. Which is not something I often find myself saying when listening to contemporary music! It's pretty damn cool!
I gather he's been through the mill since his adolescence, and is currently receiving medical treatment in Canada for the long term effects of Lyme's disease. I'm sure the success of this performance will help a great deal with his medical expenses - and it must also provide him with an incredible feeling of vindication (or something like that) that his struggles have been to some purpose. I'm also sure he's got more to say - this piece very personal and specific to his situation, but it's also underpinned by so many good creative things, that it will not be a mere flash in the pan.
I'm 68 and have listened to so much music.....this guy is a generational genius.
Electronic music will never replace the raw battery of our fingers and nails.
❤Just perfect
I’m very surprised you haven’t done more Ren reactions because my man is so, so much more than Hi Ren, he is a genre bending frickin genius. Every song is a masterpiece in a different way, different style, both when he performs on his own or with the Big Push ( who also have their own songs as well as covers) and with whoever he sings with - Chinchilla and Sam Tomkins - all those duets are phenomenal. He is blowing up and everyone he performs with including all the members of the Big Push can sing and all have awesome singles too. You need to dive and dive deep man cos you are missing out big time and so are your subscribers. Ren raps, sings, beat boxes, makes all his own beats, writes incredible lyrics, plays instruments (all self taught too) - and all while being flipppin sick for years and being misdiagnosed by doctors making his condition worse. He is now in Canada for 6 months getting treatment but blowing up on UA-cam too. Try Sick boi next, you won’t be disappointed.
Some call him the Brighton Bard ♥ so talented allround
Great reaction. Agree that Ren is s soulful. I would meet him busking in brighton and would watch him mesmerized. I actually told my wife last year that this guy will be massive. I think I was right!! What a masterpiece
face to face with a beast i will rise from the east and i will settle on the ocean floor... amazing line i take it as i am the light. the sun rises in the east. it is eternally face to face with the dark in a never ending chase around the globe so we see it settle off the west coast on the ocean floor at the end of our day
I love your admiration of the fact that this is live & is ‘theatre’. Ren absolutely is special….Uber skills & performing chops coming from being a superb busker.
Performance Art. ❤️
I have a feeling if you were to reach out to him he would respond. He has been really open about the stuff he has been thru. I would love to see you two have a sit down discussing the process. Love your reactions.
I loved how you first noticed it was live! I’ve been obsessed with watching reactions to Hi-Ren and his other works. The Live performance heightens it to masterpiece level! So glad I found him! Great reaction! Can’t wait to watch you react to Jenny and Screech (full)
Ren is incredible! Please react to more of his music, such as Chalk Outlines, Money Game 1 & 2, Sick Boi, Jenny and Screetch trilogy, and Hunger. Also more Big Push performances please, as well as Ren's performances with Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed & Earned it/ Man's World/Falling. So many awesome song options!
You’re reaction is probably my favorite and I’ve watched soooo many! I just love your energy 🫶🏼🤍
Love your reactions, been waiting for you to do this one... agreed this was a masterpiece! Keep it up, your work is appreciated
You have reacted to Ren before with the Big Push busking (Nina Simone mashup). This man is the artist of a lifetime.
I don't know what Art is but this is it 💯🇬🇧
