The woman who found the note called the company, told them about it, and alerted them to the fact that May Ann was trying to get out of the camp.
She reminds me of a guidance counselor at school who says “this is all confidential” , then you tell them about a bully then they tell the bully and not anyone that can help.

It sounds like a case of either cheap or forced labour, which is unfortunately common in developing asian countries like the Philippines. Going to the company directly could have been a very dangerous mistake.

You are all naive af. May Ann is likely a scam. I live in the Philippines and most textiles companies here have very strict labor laws. Like very VERY strict and they can be fined by the Department of Labor and Employment for the slightest mistake or rule infraction. Plus, they have unions. This is one of the modus of scammers, they leave these types of messages, a naive person gets hold of them and tries to contact and help while the scammers milk them for money. We may be a third world country, but we have rules and we aren't backwards. If a person was really really in need, they can just get help easily from a barangay tanod, a social worker or the DSWD rather than leave a message on an item where you dont know if it will be bought.

We have laws and in fact, the PH ranks high in the textile outsourcing industry compared to other countries in Asia. Textile industry workers in the PH get better benefits than some workers in the US because they dont rely on tips. Textile and RTW workers are unionized, get at least minimum wage, become regular employees after 6 months, get overtime, get leaves and benefits including 13th month bonus at the end of the year (this is true for all regular employees btw of any field) and medical and dental insurance. Jobs like in the textile industry are coveted because of the benefits so there's no need to hire underage workers or keep them as slaves. u have a great point. My first thought was shes now in more danger or about to get beat. Companies know their way around labor laws. i worked for a big company. They fired all union workers and hired all temps. Telling union they had no work available. Then had the temps do their jobs. The company gave the temps a wk off every 90 days and then hired the same worker as a new worker. (because after 90 days, they had to hire them permanent and give them insurance) They worked for years with no insurance, no overtime and long hours. companies are not always honest. Plus, union tried suing but since the temps were all done under the table, they had no proof there was actual work.

It's just a dang shame that of all the packs of underwear to slip the note in, it just happened to be a pack that didn't get quickly opened and probably sat in some kid's drawer for a couple of years until the mother sold it to this mother.
Her sees the note says “help me!” and has the address of the company saying that she’s held captive there or got kidnapped and the next thing she does is email the company and tells them what happened. It’s like as if a girl sent a note saying she was kidnapped then calling the kidnapper saying that the girl is trying to escape and if she is Ok.She seems like a nice woman but that is really stupid. May Ann is likely a scam. I live in the Philippines and most textiles companies here have very strict labor laws. Like very VERY strict and they can be fined by the Department of Labor and Employment for the slightest mistake or rule infraction. This is one of the modus of scammers, they leave these types of messages, a naive person gets hold of them and tries to contact and they milk them for money. We may be a third world country, but we have rules and we aren't backwards. If a person was really really in need, they can just get help easily from a barangay tanod, a social worker or the DSWD rather than leave a message on an item where you dont know if it will be bought.

Sorry to say this woman is more than likely dead because she emailed the company instead of contacting police or federal agents. Nicole didn't know if it was a sick joke or not but unfortunately she made a huge mistake contacting the company first. If the company was doing something illegal Mary Ann definitely paid with her life for reaching out for help. This is such a sad story because Nicole thought she was doing the right thing but in reality she more than likely caused this woman her life. I pray this story has a different ending but I highly doubt it does.
