      They were still struggling when they had their original "3 for $10 special" that included an entree, a soft drink, and an appetizer. And I remember sometimes they had specials with that, such as lunch-size fajitas or even a 6 oz sirloin steak with 2 sides. That was a spectacular deal. I remember telling workers there I felt guilty about spending so little but they said they were fine with people taking advantage of their deals.
      That's changed now to a "3 for Me" with variable pricing. Even $16.99 for the 6 oz sirloin with the soft drink and appetizer was a pretty good deal compared to any of their competitors. $10.99 with a burger A Quarter Pounder with Cheese, large fries, and large drink at my closest McDonald's is more than that and the burger isn't as good.
      As far as value goes, I remember the big secret used to be that lunch specials could be ordered at any time. I mentioned that I missed the lunch special and was told that the special could be ordered any time. Maybe not any more, but I remember I could go to most locations and order a half order of ribs that came with fries and cinammon apples for $6.99. At least one location said they hadn't heard of it. I grew up eating Chilis every day; my aunt can bring Chilis food back home every day, and we can even request. This goes until we become teens and almost have to complain because we have to eat it almost every day.
    Now I even miss Chilis.
    They have the best food, especially quesadillas and nacho chips. Also, there was never a day we missed the opportunity to attend their burger day.
    She said, if you are a manager, you have the privilege to bring food for free.

    The short answer is that they’re cheaper for a FULL decent meal compared to McDonald’s, etc.
    Heck, I took my mother there on Mother’s Day this year and had a good time too and paid under $30!🤣

    Crazy this video is made because we’ve been going back there the last couple years. Great value, good food, good service, and the biggest thing, they don’t rush you out like trendy restaurants and have a good menu for families.
    There is currently a HUGE gap in the restaurant market between counter services and trendy casual. The old school family restaurant is much needed.

    20 years ago, Chili's was absolutely the place to go for birthdays, celebrations, and special occasions. It's improving it's offerings and value while fast food is focusing on brand. I'm not paying $20 for your brand, I just wanna eat.

    Chilies spent a decade losing their mind. Went from southwestern bar food to a bad Mexican Restaurant, to a microwave BBQ joint, and have come full circle back to being a Southwestern Bar Food place. If a fast food burger meal is going to always be $15, I might as well get a good one at a place like Chilies.
    Twin Peaks is growing and Hooters is falling because of simple selection and quality for the price.

  • @GreenScreenBartender
    @GreenScreenBartender 2 місяці тому +23

    While people are rightfully pointing out fast food prices being almost the same, I'd say there's a couple other things that are probably contributing as well. There's a whole generation of people who didn't grow up with the Chili's/TGIF/Applebee's days that had long went stale in the late 2000s and now realizing Chili's is actually pretty good for the price. Also, while it's long been cool to try the smaller, hipper restaurants, those places have been getting outrageously expensive and the quality isn't often there either.
    I really hope this trend continues as we need a middle ground again between fast food and hip restaurants, both of which have priced your average consumer out.

    Last week there was a heat wave and I went to Chili's a lot. They have a pick 3 menu. You can get a steak and veggies and soup and drink all for like 17 dollars. Add a cheap marg and it's 21. Or you can go to del taco for a 13 ish dollar meal. Yes with apps you can make fast food cheap but once you add the non nutritional value of fast food, that adds a reason to eat at a restaurant. And in ambience, TV, customer service, social experiences, and ordering cheap at a restaurant sounds like a great time. Chili's, applebees, norms, ihop, and the similar small restaurants are looking better as fast food prices rise but stay the same in quality.
