Not a resident of Newcastle but my visits there over the years to watch NUFC have always been a pleasure as the City is a lovely one to spend time in. Shame that NUFC can’t buy back this land and expand stadium over the road and even incorporate a hotel as we will se fans arrive from overseas in future as well.
My name Mr N De Gouveia. I like the talk you gave which I heard saying building a new stadium is good. I heard the manages of Newcastle utd Want to have an 80 thousand stadium. The bit that got sold off I hope that changes and have space to fill up. To put something in the spot I hope all the plains work well in Newcastle. I do love sporting Newcastle utd and I give my respect to managers at Newcastle utd for the new stadium.
Hi Rob, you're right in what you were saying that the previous development company had financial issues that had to be bailed out. However, did you know that the company who purchased it are subsidiaries of the PIF? I think there'll be news early next year with regards to the future of the land as there are NDA's involved. Watch this space...
@@phil1721 - Hi there, no, not mixed up. Definitely a company within the sphere of influence of the PIF for the land at the south side / metro station. Going to cost a lot of money to do it, but it'll be +15k on our current capacity. It could certainly put pressure on the years to come with regards to the East Stand as there are precedents (say if it was to the overall benefit of the city...) for there to develop that... I would assume that if the approval to develop the gallowgate is approved then there'll be some form of agreement with regards to the East Stand to follow - hence all of the NDA's with regards to the project.
Those buildings even just walking past them turn my stomache to even just see them They dont sit in with the look or the feel of the city at all and make me feel as if im living in some sort of dystopian hell hole metropoliton head down arse in the air places that are a misery to live within I am the first to agree parts of newcastle do need cleaned up and modernised but im concerned we are loosing some of the charm that makes the toon unique with this extensive building work Unhappy with it all
Crazy how the land was only sold for £9 million. To the new owners the land would be worth tens of millions in potential extra revenue if there were to be a stadium expansion
Ideally we buy-back and use for dedicated fan zone and potential expansion. Metropolitano Stadium model if we expand the Gallowgate. Last resort/happy medium would be plans go ahead but low-rise development for uninterrupted views. Great video
The only way is for PIF to buy the land and redesign the proposals. Planning permission would have been difficult to refuse for the original proposal as there are already tall buildings in the area. The Helix area has a number of tall buildings as does Strawberry Place. When the Gallowgate end was built the council received loads of complaints about it spoiling the view from around Newcastle. Because the ground itself is so tall then this makes it harder to justify a restriction on buildings next door to it. As for the road, it will stay in one form or another. It is a main road that is used every day, but it only affects the fans for a couple of hours on match days.
As far as i have heard, the building work is not going ahead, the company who bought it went bankrupt hence why it was sat there with building stuff on it for ages but nothing happened, and now it's been cleared. The council have also blocked all building on that land due to the club wanting to expand the ground. I'm a season ticket holder just so your aware.
A great video mate. One of your best yet. you provided a comprehensive but balanced view. (well some of it was... Haha...). In my opinion Ashley sold the 'family silver' by selling this valuable land for such a low price without thinking about the future requirements of the club. The current owners have more than enough money to buy back this land itself for £120 million. THey pay that sort of money to golf professionals to join their golf tour! But will they? If there is no other way of expanding St James Park then I think they will make an offer the current owners of the land cannot refuse! I also think that they would build over the road like the Athletico Madrid's stadium and develop the Gallowgate end to include a Hotel. Casino, Leisure Complex, conference rooms etc. Keep up the great work producing some brilliant vids.
Question for you Roo. You said the land was sold back in 2019 if I’m not mistaken. Who sold it? Or is it safe to say this was a Ashley I need more money deal?
Yeah, the Stack was closed in May 2022 in the town where are all the stores are and now they are building offices, and its disappointing to the fact that the Stack is being moved to another location. And the worse thing about it is that it isn't as good as a location so there is a chance they'll lose money and there's nothing they can do.
Greenhouse Skyscraper's growing fruit and veg would be good. Shame tall buildings are usually used to extort higher rent charges to tenants and business's. Anything blocking my view from Gateshead of St'James's Park i am against.
As a member of NUST I was behind them all the way on fighting the sale of Strawberry Place. They fought him in court more than once & were the only ones to do so. He got so frustrated he actually sold the land to a relative for £8m (pocketing the money himself- none going into nufc coffers but straight into MASH..Mike Ashley Holdings) the relative then sold it on , foiling NUST . I detest the buildings that are , potentially, going up as it does spoil the iconic views of Newcastle! Oh, & by the way , the flats that are being built are, yet again for students! Now I hear the garage on Barack Road, just beside Stanhope Street is to be closed and replaced with , yes, multistorey flats....for students! Forget about SJP for a moment, it's about time we stopped all these developments. Look at the ugly things they replaced Tyne Tees studios with ...they are all garish colours & very ugly buildings, enough's enough .
great to hear from somebody who has obviously followed this all the way Kath. Did you attend the meeting with the council and tolent where they tried to appease NUST by showing a scaled back expansion of 5000 seats?
@@phil1721 I tried to attend as many meetings as I could, I was carer to my old aunt and working full time but, I tell you this, we were definitely a thorn in their side ! As for this planning permission for these carbuncle towers , they've not made it through the 2nd part of planning permission yet..they've done exactly the same as the lot on the Quayside & sneakily increased the height of the buildings & they (on the Quayside) were knocked back ! Between the Free Trade & the residents they just weren't going to get away with it...I think a petition started by , say, the Strawberry & signed by all of us fans would really sicken these developers !
PIF are not just rich they’re smart and ahead of the game always, my belief is that they have already negotiated a buy back price and this will enable us to expand the gallowgate end and move the current road next to newcastle to the other side adjacent to strawberry place. That’s what I’ve been told anyway. Would make perfect sense, 1 if we want to stay at St James which let’s face it most do. And 2 a new ground would be great don’t get me wrong but the heritage around St James is something that I for one don’t want to let go. Just look at Arsenal and Spurs lovely ground but it’s just not the same.
To extend you could always drop the road under ground making a tunnel and then more room on top to expand! Would be safer for fans as won't need to cross the road and world help with traffic!
best solution is to have the road more or less where it is and build the foundations in front or behind it depending what size expansion they are looking for. Remember, practically speaking you can drive a car through and under the milburn Road closure was no problem when they had to close it to build the original gallowgate in the early 90s
Do you think they might move Newcastle stadium so they have bigger better things to do there As the old Newcastle stadium can't do much Owning might want to move to a better place to have your own idea future
Residential? another words another student accommodation getting absolutely ridiculous with universities and accommodation in Newcastle That’s all it is. Build something exciting theme park or summit or a massive stack with loads of small businesses. car parking in the town is another massive problem.
New owners need to try buy it out as soon as possible. Will ruin the cathedra on the hill look and will stop any expansion of the gallowgate. That view from across the tyne makes me sad seeing that view is what makes it so special. Sadly I don't see them managing to buy them out...
I was up for the Chelsea match and noticed they had shut the access up to the Strawberry past this land and I did think, oh know they are starting up again....me and the crew said why don't PIF just buy it back but I guess if it's going to be worth £140 mill although not alot for PIF it's mental to pay nearly 10 x what it was sold for?! Just goes to show that Mike Ashley didn't care about the future of the club he only cares about money what the city and the club needs is a lot more seats in SJP as it is very hard to get a match ticket since the takeover the club should definitely look in to buying the land back as NUFC is getting bigger since the takeover and we are going to need a bigger stadium to keep up with the demand for tickets
Its just a shame Mike Ashley sold this land and now the future doesn't look like bright with our stadium being covered by apartment buildings it looks ridiculous
I still can't get my head around why are owners didn't just make the owners of that land a offer they can't refuse wouldn't even effect are fair play rules and as far as the city is concerned do we really need more office's when people are working from home more and more and another hotel in Newcastle really
i wouldn't rule out Ashley having some controlling interest even when it was passed on to developers. The council didn't stand in his way and the way the land was sold back and forward suggests something dubious. Think by the time the PIF got their feet under the table a lot of things were in motion. Everything apart from construction.....hope there's something we don't know.
zero benefits to the toon . screwed potential expansion. screwed the views on st james park. ramps up all the traffic I really hoped the new owners would be able to buy back the land fat ashley's last FU to NUFC
There is more to Newcastle than St James' Park mate, we are talking about more jobs and investment, people cannot pay the bills with picturesque views. Simple build at tunntle overthe road. Then it creates 2 passage ways and allows the club to expand
