Just for info it’s Castore that run the shops currently, yet another Ashley cost cutting exercise. Hence why the selection of stuff is limited. It’s something the club is taking back control of in the summer
Not just the shop, I went for an interview for a management job on the bars and catering side which until the interview I hadn't realised was farmed out to a contract catering group.
I dont class people that have supported a club since they were very young kids as glory hunters. Great video, glad you enjoyed our stadium. New subscriber 👍

You mentioned early in the video about the takeover and when the celebrations died down one of the first things the owners paid for which we celebrated was the windows around the stadium being cleaned as Ashley took the penny pinching to that extreme. Great video mate, i could do a tour a day and watch vids on them and still learn new stuff that I didn't learn previously
Thanks mate much appreciated 👍🏾 yeah that’s a disgrace no wonder the fans were so glad to get rid of him… I don’t think even the Glazers have gone to that extreme 😅
@RysFootyParadise its mad when you get new owners and instead of celebrating what player signings you can dream of but the first signing is a window cleaner to wash the windows which is celebrated, absolutely mental lol. Yeah he was bad when he was here, you could make a mini series on how bad he was and despite us having new owners for a while now we are still feeling it on how bad his decisions were.
Great video, always interesting to see non Newcastle fan’s opinions on our stadium and facilities. Definitely got a new subscriber in me. Sadly as you were saying a lot of the infrastructure is unchanged since Mike Ashley took over as he was a cheap bastard, our training ground had wheelie bins for ice baths up until a few years ago, finally the investment needed is coming. Also one thing you missed was a walkthrough the absolutely beautiful Leazes park which has wonderful views of the stadium.
Great stadium but it’s definitely in need of a refresh, unfortunately Mike Ashley really didn’t care much for investing in to the stadium, new owners have done a lot but it’s a big ground so will take time! Really enjoyed watching this, I’m a Geordie living in Australia so it’s always a pleasure to see people visiting and producing content on our club! Thanks, keep up the great work. Ps. Hope you could understand the tour guide, he was pretty hardcore Geordie haha 😅
He was a proper Geordie haha 😅 St James’ does remind me of Old Trafford… slightly neglected in areas but historic and with some TLC could return to being a BEAST
Fantastic video mate well put across nice to see a non toon fan on the stadium tour decent United fan nice to know you have a soft spot for us keep the videos coming kind regards Robbo toon army 👍
Thanks for the video. The ground expansion is on hold as Leazes Terrace next to the East stand is a grade 1 listed building. The plan in the Sir John Hall days was to build on Castle Leazes (a larger space just up the road) and to convert SJP to the home of the Newcastle Falcons (owned by Sir John as part of his Sporting club ambitions). Sadly scuppered by protests so SJP was extended to current capacity.
I'd say the most impressive parts besides the obvious was the theming in the internal areas. Of course it keeps the monochrome colour scheme with gold accents but with the history all over the walls it really pops and stops it from getting dull. Incredibly well designed.
When it comes to Novelty items the best place is to go to the Back Page shop in Chinatown (across the road essentially). That's where all the novelty and retro Newcastle/football memorabilia are best found.
I did the Newcastle tour when I watched my team play away at Gateshead. That tall stand is ridiculously step. I suffer with vertigo and I was virtually on my hands and knees crawling to the top. Although I'm a bit of a southern softy, I have roots to the north east on my father's side and one of his mother's cousins (a few times removed) played for Newcastle and now has a stand named after him, Wor Jackie Milburn.
Good job you didn't do the roof tour then . I've got amazing pics of my roof tour (done the stadium tour loads of times, always changing) I have a picture taken on the mesh walkway that juts out as far as the glass rooves do , you can see my feet & , 150feet below, a groundsman mowing the pitch...look up and you can see the coast & for miles up the Tyne Valley, so special 😅
Yes our stadium needs a refresh, 13 years under Ashley does that , our current owners recognise this and plans are afoot to upgrade whatever they can, there is a current study to see what can be done to expand the stadium, the Gallowgate end can be extended so it should be the same as the Milburn bringing capacity to 60/62k plus the East stand may well be demolished and rebuilt to further increase capacity. Good video. Howay the Lads.
All listed buildings behind the east stand so there’s no chance of demolishing and building back. Not a bad thing in my opinion but it might push the club to move eventually unless there’s a fancy solution from the architects. Fantastic vid by the way from a Newcastle fan I don’t think anyone from the area could have made one better.
i am a footbaal stadiums fans i like newcastle's stadium , the terraces behind the goal are amazing...... very steep and high, it's like a black and white wall
@@RysFootyParadise It sure is. Definitely in the top-3 stadiums that I've been to. I went to St. James' Park when it was only 36k capacity too & it was very nice even then.
The roof top tour is superb as the guide not only talks about the club but also some history of the city and surrounding areas. The third statue was Jackie Milburn who held the record for the quickest goal in an FA cup final 1955 v Man City until it was beaten by Di Matteo. He was also our top scorer until Alan Shearers overtook him. More famously, Wor Jackie’s dad taught my mother in law how to knit ( they were cousins) 😂

One of the last remaining stadiums that's actually in a city centre that's why. Most are stuck in the middle of industrial estates where there's been lots of land for a new ground.
Cheers ..always enjoy watching what others think of our football club…found it a little surprising you didn’t pick up on Wor Jackie (Milburn) being the cousin of Bobby Charlton’s mother ( if you watch interviews with the great men you see the family resemblance)and also its the grade 2 listed Leazes terrace that is the obstacle to expansion…not the terrace houses you indicated…but overall a fair vlog 👍

The club would like to build a new stadium on the town moor which is on the outskirts of the town. It’s not going to be easy because it’s for the people of Newcastle for recreation and farmers have grazed their cattle on the moor for a long time now. I think their only opinion is to develop the Gallowgate and build outwards and I believe it’s been talked about. Enjoyed your video.
something regarding the capacity of the stadium, when the original expansion was finished the full capacity was 55,000, however when new health and safety rules came in the club was forced to remove a few thousand seats and make space in certain areas, so the maximum capacity is now 52,500. to answer your question about shearer coming to the club, my mam took me to the stadium when he signed and yes they had a massive setup atop the steps outside the stadium and he did his procession out of the stadium onto that upper section.

my memory of St James Park is not a great one. Nothing to do with the stadium or the fans but the day itself. A freezing cold December in 2011, a 4am start, god knows how many hours on a train, a seat somewhere in the sky, did I say it was freezing, getting home 22 hours later and all to watch Swansea play out one of the worst, most dreadfully boring 0-0 draws you'll ever see! positives though were seeing a fantastic stadium, the locals who were very welcoming, a lovely lunch in a little Italian restaurant and a visit to a bookshop dedicated to sports books, memorabilia, programmes, etc.
@@RysFootyParadise I’m glad they got the info about the picture of Shearer right in the player’s entrance. That’s because I’d put them right when I went. They claimed it was on his testimonial. 😂😂
Keegan left because sir John Hall was telling him he needed to sell players like ginola and Ferdinand ect to get money because they were floating on the stock market and he said if your selling them I'm off as it defeats the object selling our best players when we're building around these players and then only the top team went into the champions league so the revenue wasn't what it is now.
It’s an amazing ground to be fair. But the away seats offer one of the worst experiences in football. Way too far away from the pitch and no chance of a significant atmosphere.
