I have to admit something: I have never played any Jak and Daxter game. I have never watched anyone play a Jak game, not even for 5 seconds. I was watching the first few eras while at work last year. Since then I’ve been laid off, unemployed for a lot of 2024, and now spent the last few months working again. Even as times have dramatically changed, I’m very thankful for these deep dive videos. This coming from someone who isn’t a speed runner, but did grow up playing Jak 3 *a lot*
Hearing the Sly 3 OST makes me want to see a video about the game. Shame that it isn't as popular amongst the big 3 of PS2, since the cutscenes are unskippable.
unreal video man, storytelling/visuals/audio all so clean, this is the first era with runs that i can remember watching live its got me feeling nostalgic for like 2 years ago
The Duck may have floored the Fish many times, but as the Fish was slowly learning from the Duck, so too was the Duck inadvertently learning from the Fish; in time, they became one with the water flow. Also shout-out to the usual classic collection of musical bangers in this video; Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Megaman X, Undertale... I'd say everything's here, but that'd have to include some Sonic, which I didn't hear of in it.
I do remember watching you do Jak 3 around 2022 / 2023, I think it was 100% or All Missions. Had no idea all this history was happening back then, though. Jak 3 was always one of my favorites back growing up in HS as a kid (05-09), so it's been fun to watch this series and see so many people enjoy this game too, both casually and Speedrun-wise. HBD Jak 3!
I'm so damn invested in this series because I grew up playing this game. I've been waiting patiently for each part since part 3, where I found your channel due to getting more into speedrunning videos the last few years, and you have been doing an amazing job.
The production quality in these videos is nothing short of astonishing. As someone who grew up playing the Jak franchise and still do to this day its nice to see such a cool community surrounding these games and these Documentary videos are always fun to watch. keep up the good work Rixer
As someone relatively new to speedrunning, I've quickly grown to appreciate the community of people being so kind and supportive of each other no matter what. The parts of this video that highlighted that, especially since I was in a rut of my own in CTR, really resonated with me. Your story is heard, felt, and greatly inspiring.
every era I'm like "okay, THIS is my favorite era" and here we are again. Absolute fire video Ricky. The music, the editing, the story. it's all so fucking good. You turn events in history into a cohesive narrative and it never ceases to surprise me. GGs man It's all so good ❤
I just wanted to say thank you for this series. Jak and Daxter is my favourite video game series ever, and seeing the speedrun history for this game through these videos made me appreciate the efforts the runners go through as someone who has always played the games casually. Thank you :)
The way you spliced in those higher quality recreation clips of the inputs performed in the runs makes this all the more satisfying, especially with the dynamic camera angles giving a trailer-like vibe. Can't wait for Era IX!
Finally the next chapter is here! Been watching the other ones over and over! Love this channel. Glad you fought through the hard times and found your path in life
did a rewatch of the full series so far when i saw this one came out. its really such a great work congrats on makin it so far both w the game n ur channel
Such outstanding storytelling and editing. I love that you even put in those custom camera angles in post. That segment with the R&C hoverboard music in particular got me *hyped*. To me, no speedrun documentary channel can rival yours. P.S. How do you get the camera angles? Do you play back the actual input data for the runs on screen, or do you go through the trouble of reenacting the movement?
“Time to go to sleep, let me just open youtube real quick for a couple shorts” *this pop up in the home* Well fuck, guess we’re sleeping tomorrow, this sequel can’t wait
Every video in this series keeps being more and more awe-inspiring. As someone that has been watching speedruns for a while but has never been an assiduous watcher of a single category/person, having you and other speedrunners recount the grind from the inside is amazing and really brings something new to the table. I love how you incorporate the way you and the others felt at the time. Your testimony on getting into the work/adult life particularly hit home as I'm trying to find my own drive after a few years in the work force. Thanks for this video and I can't wait to see the last part !
every single video you make is an absolute gem and everything is laid out so well it really has been such a pleasure watching every single one of these videos and learning about this amazing community you and the homies have built and the creative, jaw dropping records you all have achieved
It is truly astonishing for me how much the speed running community is also a "archivist" community. The amount of videos, clips, discord messages, tracking the records of speedruns and memories over the years is amazing. I thank you for putting it together in such a enjoable format! Looking forward for the next videos!
These are always such a treat to watch and keep reminding me how much I love this game... plus it's just so very motivating to see all the motivation, the grinding and just the sheer persistence when trying to get a new best run I may have not been there personally but I think you can really tell just how amazing and friendly the community is by watching all these videos, how everyone keeps cheering each other on and trying to get them to do their best and push themselves, trying to find new secrets in this game that people have come together to share their love for and to even see that the "rivalry" for first place rather results in pushing each other and even rooting for "the rival" instead of wishing each other failed runs... It's just so nice to see and a good reminder that the world doesn't have to be such a dark gloomy place where everyone resents the other for their achievements Thank you Ricky!
You've done so much for the scene as a whole and for individuals like myself. A living example of the dream, and honestly also very close to home in many ways (26 here too, looking to finally settle in with a full-time I can grow in, and loved the Jak games since I was a kid). It's truly inspiring, and I respect the time, effort, dedication, expertise, and experience you've gained and poured in not just the documentation but also the execution of all the runs. TLDR? Good fucking shit Ricky, you earned it.
Absolutely amazing video! Inspired the hell out of me all over again. I just wanted to say that I wouldn't be the speedrunner I am today without your videos. Thank you so much for putting in the effort behind each scene and storyline. The videos really stand out with this level of craftsmanship.
Another unbelievably good video, at the begining I was sceptical, but the 78 mins went by so fast, because I was so invested in your story telling once again. Huge compliment for your video output
Today, I had the feel to check out some Rixer. To check out some classic Jak skips and runs.. And what do you know, later the same day, Part VIII drops. I think, it was meant to be. All hail the return of ThaRixer!
And also, I just have to say this.. You truly are unmatched in making the action compilation segments. Music choices, the cuts, they're all just perfect. The most hype speedrunning segments (heh) around!
When you hit that WR, I could feel those emotions and started welling up a little myself. Watching through the eras up to now (having only in the past year or two gotten into watching speedrun breakdowns/docos), seeing everyone's evolutions and hard work finally pay off, especially yours, really is heartwarming. You're incredible, Ricky.
Great job once again! I have to say that I really enjoy the interviews with other speedrunners, they bring such a nice touch of authenticity and multiple voices to the story. Also the creator being a central figure in a story can be really tricky, but you handle it really well and with decent objectivity imo (again, the different voices help). This is honestly a great docuseries of a part of gaming history born from passion and I love it!
Do you reckon you’ll do a video series like this covering Jak 2? This has been such a brilliant series that I just want more! Thanks for the hard work and effort you have put into these!
this series make me cry genuine tears of joy, remembering all the speedrunning i used to do as a kid and the great communities i interacted w! tysm for all your hard work and dedication, ricky
this is unironically my favourite videogame youtube series of all time, and i dont even usually have the attention spam to watch something for more than 1 hour straight lmao
Love how uplifting this series has been. The time is only as low as it is because of all of these contributions, its a community effort and I feel like you captured that so well.
Ricky i really want to say thank you. Its hard to find content creators that are so clearly passionate about what they do. I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this series and it always makes my day when i see you pop up :) P.s. the different camera angles used for your end montage was so fucking smooth lol ❤️
I've always adored how the speedrunning community is, by pushing each other to reach new heights. Honestly makes me think of Goku and Vegeta pushing each other to get stronger and stronger.
The amount of love you've put into this insane series is inspiring. Your record ASIDE, these videos are an amazingly crafted love letter to the speedrunning community, and as somebody who struggles mentally at times, I thank you for them
I am only at the beginning of the video but I want to congratulate you on your perseverance. I'm happy you are able to use your energy to create this content in a way that you benefit from and enjoy. What a wonderful experience and I'm here to see it through!
Dude! What a video. It brought tears to my eyes. Jak 3 is probably in my top 3 most important games. It was the first game I could beat by myself, with no help or walkthrough, for one simple reason: I’m Brazilian. Maybe that doesn’t sound like a big deal, but language barriers were rough when I was a little boy. Jak 3 was subtitled in European Portuguese, and although it’s not the same as Brazilian Portuguese, it was close enough for me to understand what I needed to do-and it probably helped motivate me to beat the game. To see a video like this after watching the whole saga is just... wonderful. Thanks, Ricky. For the video, and above all, for showing love for this game.
I feel you man. I am from Denmark and we're a small country with less than 6 million people so very few games were translated to danish. Thanks a lot for the kind words
Oh, man, how am I supposed to just _wait_ for a follow up to this masterpiece? /gen What a fantastic video. You have a very distinct storytelling style which I often find myself craving anytime I'm in the mood for a speedrunning documentary, and it's been such a pleasure to watch you refine it over the course of this series
I’ve been watching this over the past couple days and I have to say the story telling throughout was incredible! It made me want to jump in and play and even though I wasn’t there to watch any record runs I felt the excitement through this video! 10/10 can’t wait for the next one
Ay Ricky good video man, I gotta say watching these ERA videos are like a time machine for me. So much stuff happened with Jak 3 that past 10 years it's insane man.
It's hard to believe this series is nearing it's end. I've been getting my friends together in discord for watch parties of this series everytime you post a new episode, and we all love it. I look forward to seeing the finale, and whatever projects you may have in store for the future. Great work as always, Ricky.
Great video. As always, I really like how personal all of this gets. Just goes to show how each and everyone's personal journey through a speedgame has so much more to it than just the number on their PB. GG
Amazing piece of work, you have hooked me onto speedrunning many years ago and it's still going to this day you are doing wonders to this community. Thank you Ricky, keep it up ❤
God I loved everything in this video so much, but the editing was a standout for me! 50:42 with the synced ratchet bgm was sick, and the recreated gameplay with cinematic camera angles on your 38 run added so much flair Great job, and I can't wait for the final episode!
Ngl this one hit home for me as a person who's hit that "wall" where I need to make a decision if I want to make my passion into something that might actually help with money or to try to survive the working world as a person with Autism. I didn't expect to see something that emotionally impactful during a series retelling the speedrunning history of a 20 year old game but y'know what? It's good, really good and I'm super happy you've found your passion. Even if you don't have 1st place in Jak3 categories, you know the history and are connected to the community. That alone shows your passion and dedication for speedrunning, that's awesome dude. Easily my favorite video essay part in the series, and goddamn, I love a good video essay. Cheers, Ricky! I look forward to what comes next from you!
As someone struggling to get by doing what I want to do abroad, the first and final parts really hit home for me, especially seeing myself right there getting some festis. Loved the ending on this one. Do what you love and love what you do
I think I wouldn’t mind seeing a documentary about your life story and how you became the speedrunning legend you are today. I really enjoy your videos, and get excited when I see your latest video pop up in my recommended. Keep pumping out content, and I’ll keep watching! Thank you!
Okay so i discovered this series from this episode. Let me just say, this series easily rivals some of Summoning Salt's best content. It will be bitter sweet to see this series end but omg im so excited to see the final part. This is the best speedrunning series on youtube
GGs man It's all so good ❤
Bin you're the best
The amount of work that goes into these videos, especially this one, is phenomenal.
“Time to go to sleep, let me just open youtube real quick for a couple shorts”
*this pop up in the home*
Well fuck, guess we’re sleeping tomorrow, this sequel can’t wait
As a spanish speaking viewer, im amazed this video has great subtitles! i don't need them, but i didn't expect to see them , great job :3
I love this series gonna be quite emotional when its over
These are always such a treat to watch and keep reminding me how much I love this game... plus it's just so very motivating to see all the motivation, the grinding and just the sheer persistence when trying to get a new best run
I may have not been there personally but I think you can really tell just how amazing and friendly the community is by watching all these videos, how everyone keeps cheering each other on and trying to get them to do their best and push themselves, trying to find new secrets in this game that people have come together to share their love for and to even see that the "rivalry" for first place rather results in pushing each other and even rooting for "the rival" instead of wishing each other failed runs... It's just so nice to see and a good reminder that the world doesn't have to be such a dark gloomy place where everyone resents the other for their achievements
Thank you Ricky!
Babe wake up, new ThaRixer video just dropped
"The holy grail" is exactly what I thought seeing the notification of that video 😂
Happy Belated 20th Birthday Jak 3
Another unbelievably good video, at the begining I was sceptical, but the 78 mins went by so fast, because I was so invested in your story telling once again. Huge compliment for your video output
We even got another montage of Bob being cool. Life is worth fucking living everybody.
Thank you! I'm so glad I got to speak with so many different runners and glitch hunters in the community
Do you reckon you’ll do a video series like this covering Jak 2? This has been such a brilliant series that I just want more! Thanks for the hard work and effort you have put into these!
I won't be haha
The Undertale music starting 57:20 involving the technical commentary but also the fact that it’s also the lava part of undertale and Jak 3 is just 👌🏻
Man, I was certain the song you played during the BTR segment was from FFT, but I was super surprised to see it's from KH.
Aslov popped into my streams in 2020 and we became friends. Glad he's finally showing up in this video series. Such a great dude!
Very much appreciate the Hollow Bastion theme
this series make me cry genuine tears of joy, remembering all the speedrunning i used to do as a kid and the great communities i interacted w!
tysm for all your hard work and dedication, ricky
this is unironically my favourite videogame youtube series of all time, and i dont even usually have the attention spam to watch something for more than 1 hour straight lmao
I'm so happy I stumbled across your channel a year ago while I i was recovering from teeth removal. Keep up the running rix!
I haven't watched any Jak 3 content since your last video, so I was craving this next part. Gonna enjoy this 😎
Im not even speedrunning or bughunting, but i knew a lot of this glitches from my childhood. Sad that i didnt even knew that even a thing.
Love how uplifting this series has been. The time is only as low as it is because of all of these contributions, its a community effort and I feel like you captured that so well.
Ricky i really want to say thank you. Its hard to find content creators that are so clearly passionate about what they do. I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this series and it always makes my day when i see you pop up :)
P.s. the different camera angles used for your end montage was so fucking smooth lol ❤️
Thanks :)
Thank you for the unexpected inspiration Ricky
Bro, the shot selection when re-camming the runs is outright thrilling. I got chills
Thanks Ink :)
It's hard to believe this series is nearing it's end. I've been getting my friends together in discord for watch parties of this series everytime you post a new episode, and we all love it. I look forward to seeing the finale, and whatever projects you may have in store for the future. Great work as always, Ricky.
Thank you so much, means a lot im worth a discord voice share
Great video. As always, I really like how personal all of this gets. Just goes to show how each and everyone's personal journey through a speedgame has so much more to it than just the number on their PB. GG
Did not expect the FF9 music, very fitting though.
This may be one of if not the only truly healthy rivalry, where both of you helped each other improve and stay motivated
Rigtig glad for at høre du fandt din niche i livet, og at du kan leve af det :D elsker dine videoer! Keep it up!
Amazing piece of work, you have hooked me onto speedrunning many years ago and it's still going to this day you are doing wonders to this community. Thank you Ricky, keep it up ❤
Your Jak 3 series is awesome. your commentary is great and beyond insightful. I'm glad you found something that works for you. Keep up the great work!
God I loved everything in this video so much, but the editing was a standout for me!
50:42 with the synced ratchet bgm was sick, and the recreated gameplay with cinematic camera angles on your 38 run added so much flair
Great job, and I can't wait for the final episode!
Thank you, and I'm glad the video was relatable 😌
every episode in this series has been phenomenal, but this one is on another level. Unbelievably hyped for the finale
Enjoyed your passion the whole time through.
Embodies the message you give others.
Absolute legend
Such an amazing documentary. Era is almost complete, but you've done so much already. Enjoy the effort a lot, ty for all that
No way😩 I just checked yesterday for a new video, thank you for blessing us
🙏
As someone struggling to get by doing what I want to do abroad, the first and final parts really hit home for me, especially seeing myself right there getting some festis. Loved the ending on this one. Do what you love and love what you do
Seeing these clips, i am wondering if i ever actually finished the game when i was younger. I barely recognize any of these places!
bro i am feeling how ricky was feeling rn just finishing school and shit damn insane timing
I think I wouldn’t mind seeing a documentary about your life story and how you became the speedrunning legend you are today. I really enjoy your videos, and get excited when I see your latest video pop up in my recommended. Keep pumping out content, and I’ll keep watching! Thank you!
Maybe some day but I don't wanna make it all about me. ERA 8 showed a good snippet of a turning point in my life though :). And thank you sir
You're one of the few true UA-camrs, making this platform great again.
Huge GZ and thank you for your service!
Okay so i discovered this series from this episode. Let me just say, this series easily rivals some of Summoning Salt's best content. You could, and should, release a cut with all the parts stitched together, because videos like that go crazy. I can tell you I'd fall asleep to that video a 1,000 times because it's so interesting yet soothing.
glad to watch your chanel grow. been here for 3 or 4 years. i found ur chanel when watching lore of call of duty world at war peter any% and fell in love with it all again, love the speedruning history videos, thanks for the time you put into ur videos
