Did some basic testing using macros from Steam Input for a wired Xbox Series controller and found that the game will only allow at most 2 music skips per second, but the average time skipping seems closer to 15-18 min/s instead of the 20+ you'd want. I had left trigger full pulls set to cycle through dpad right, LStick down (with the cursor in the right spot for that note), dpad down, and dpad right with the minimum turbo rate of 10ms (this seems to be where the 2 skips per sec limit is coming from btw). I was able to get 2 skips more consistently using a Steam Controller wirelessly with it's proprietary dongle though, so that's nice. This brings the theoretical minimum to 8-9.5 hours for just doing music, holding down the macro button the whole time if you don't have it set to toggle. Also mildly interesting is that music spam seems to remove 3-8 seconds at random from the timer, though no idea why. It's kinda annoying that I can't get keyboard inputs to play more than the 1 note for the cursor position, cause then I could use a macro I made in Logitech Gaming Software to input something like 4,000 inputs per second. Can't find a good non-steam way to get gamepad macros to work either, cause the game doesn't seem to like/allow note-spam EXCEPT through gamepad macros.
Hey i created a macro script to try out what you calculated towards the end i made a video about it on my channel if you wanna know about the details but i can say sadly theres some sorta cooldown that prevents you of pressing too many inputs at a rapid pace so the maximum amount of inputs that i could get was 4 inputs every 1.77 seconds
Yeah, it's insane! The most wild thing to me is that to truly get an optimal time, you'd need to be constantly playing the instrument. And even then, if someone else with more determination tried the run and was able to press buttons just slightly faster, they could take it. In theory, anyone with enough desire could beat the world record no matter how good it becomes.

really cool video! i hadnt heard of this game so it was interesting to see how this was set up
YOKAI WATCH BACKGROUND MUSIC WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I love The Longing. Played through twice and read the entire Moby Dick, and Thus Spoke Zarathustra books inside the game.
YESSSSSSSS This masterpiece needs to be talked about more. The way it's so cozy, allows you to breathe and take your time in a world that seems to always been in a hurry, and how it gets you to think. Just sit and think about what you would do if you were stuck underground for 400 days and some old man's "just trust me bro." This game holds a special place in my heart and once I'm done with the final ending, I plan to start all over again and let the Shade's dark chocolate home whisk me away.
ALMOST A MILLION! Great job. Keep up the goos work.
Instant like. Love this game. Haven't even watched the video yet.
Partitio's theme towards the end! Earned a like and sub for that, nice choice B)
The main character of the game looks like a small Mr Burns
Very interesting game indeed👍🏿! I remember hearing about this game in passing a few years ago.
2:40 he just insulted all mania players
im stoned this video is perfec trn
Or just any 4k rhythm game players.
@@hotrodhammee then let me be more specific: he just insulted all VSRG players
ps.: pull the stick out of your ass
congrats on blowing up, dude! I can't wait to see what else you make!
Speedrun SWGOH without a credit card. It’ll take literally 3+ years, and that’s if you’re fast.
That being said, after about an hour there’s not much more you can do to progress in any given day.
Sounds interesting. Might give it a look :)
When you were talking about the music and pressing the same buttons 200,000 times. All I could think of is going back to Runescape.
Clipping through my chair to glitch my location inside the backrooms to wait from there
Congrats on the run
thanks!
These are they type of speedruns I want to see
Shouldn't the thumbnail be 400 days?
That's what I'm saying. He might change it later though
@@ramen.047 ... Why am I stupid... thanks for catching that!
Quick. Screenshot it now
Even though he might have not noticed it has been proven than longer numbers for time has more views
@nwsparks idk if you saw it before the fix but the thumbnail said 400 hours instead of 400 days
Content like this is the best indicator that we need a new, non-capitalist way to distribute resources. This is not something anyone should have to do in order to eat or be housed or access culture.
@@reed6514 But it's pretty funny =)
@GeoSage1137 lol yeah thats true 🙂
Aw hell yeah, more Longing content
We can never have enough!
dudeee 1.2 mil views in 7 days!! who knew so many people would enjoy you suffering ahah, great work! keep it up :)
It's insane! Thanks!
@ SO happy for you, i can’t imagine the feeling :) i wish ya the best and can’t wait to see more content!
Unemployed friend:
Who needs a life when you can have the grind!
the dopamin rush hits ya when you can play a funny instrument for 30hrs instead of afking for 400hrs+ XD
Zigged when you should have Zagged my guy, SMH Time loss. 🥶
No, but seriously, this is dope as hell- awesome job. That was a lot of commitment. ✊
Thanks! I can't wait to see someone else do the run and beat it like 10 hours quicker than I did!
low key im learning about this stuff in school, from a math standpoint. If you take the variable's time to acquire the boost, and how much that boost speeds it up, you can use quadratics to determine at what point to stop collecting the boosts and start afking. idk just finally the only time I will connect int math 2 to the real world
2:56 crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room, a rubber room. A rubber room with rats, the rats made me go crazy.
This was AWESOME! Great video. Thank you!
@@jeshguin_the_final_one thanks!
15:06 and autoclickers, but you admitted to use one (turbo controller), so doesn't that make your run invalid?
@MerrStudio Maybe? The mods have allowed for the use of autoclickers before, even when the rules technically said they weren't allowed. If they end up disqualifying the run I'll probably just do it again
@@GeoSage1137 mad man. I respect you. Subbed
34 hours is insane and this is an absolutely brutal punishment. Great video!
A YOKAI-WATCH PLAYER!?!?
IN 2024!?!?
AND A SPEEDRUNNER!?!?
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH!!!!!!!!!!!
Good games will never get old!!
@@GeoSage1137 True dat!
When I saw the different methods of skipping time, I thought the instrument was the OBVIOUS choice... 20x for passive, but 550x-600x for spamming wasd!
1:17 bruh you could’ve got chug 1 ounce of vinegar which is just a net benefit fr fr on god
Trust me, future Geo here. It is NOT a net benefit. Health wise it may be, but holy heck is it painful. Hypothetically speaking, of course. Totally not going to spoil that part of my YKW3 video
A man chugged one ounce of vineger: this is what happened to his esophagus.
Very good video! And 7th dragon music!!
Ah yeah, the music's far too underrated!
uh here's how u can do it.
Go to Settings: Set your device to never go to sleep.
Get the Game: Download and install The Longing.
Play the Game: Explore the caves, collect items, and interact with the environment.
Wait for 400 Days: The Shade will eventually tell the king it's time to wake up.
Wait: After 400 days, the king will wake up and the game will end.
