So willing to help a young guy with a mistake, that’s awesome. A lot of “car guys” would just laugh at his mistake and shrug it off. But you didn’t. That makes me want to support you even more what you do. Keep up the positive vibes
Appreciate it my friend ❤️ just wanna try and help where I can. I feel for him, I've been there before 🙏
people especally will laugh at you in the subaru community. All the subreddits and the forums are full of people who are so quick to call you an idiot.
That’s awesome your took the time and initiative to help him out. Not many people would do that and offer to rebuild the motor. You have my respect on that one.
Thanks Tyler, just wanna see everyone succeed and I know the struggle of being younger and trying to build your dream car. If I'm able to help I try to however I can
@@Smeedia I can relate I’m trying to rebuild my ej25 in my 07 sti but it’s been hard due to recovering from a neck surgery. Love your videos and how you show the steps on rebuilds and on your own builds
That’s not reliable car. You need a extra motor. All videos I. See St I. Have a Guy working on the engine. That makes me not buy a Subaru
In other words buy a new car 🚗
@@davidbarber2010 I get that is your opinion but when it’s a child hood dream of owning one you gotta respect that he was helping someone out and if done right like was done it will last a long time.
You have so much respect from me man, you gave him half the money back for a short block and even build him a ej257 free of labor as long as he gets the parts. Props to you my man.
Trying to help where I can, I feel for him.
Man that sucks to hear that it didn't make it back home, it sounded like it was running great after burping and test drive. I'm stoked to hear that you are helping the dude out, and hopefully this will be a good learning experience down the road for him. Getting into cars has its ups and downs, and learning how to deal with things like that is half of what makes it such a rewarding experience.
Definitely has its ups and downs but always try to help how I can 🙏🙏🙏
You are the definition of what car enthusiasts should strive to be. Helping one another and passing down Knowledge. I appreciate your dedication.
Such approach to the customer, I have no words. You are awesome person Tanner. Thanks for doing world little better place.
You are a stand up guy. Not many people would help out like that and give money back.
I feel for him, hopefully helps him towards a new block 🙏
Really shows the kind of mechanic you are that you went out to help him on the side of the road and that you sacrificed money you made to help him out financially. I do all my own maintenance on my vehicles, learning from channels like yours, and due to that I pay attention religiously to all the gauges because I know how much time I put into my vehicles. That’s not a bash on the owner, just commending you on your effort. Best of luck to the kid with his car, it’s a learning experience for sure. 🤘🏻
100% agree, weather its diy or having a shop do the work paying attention to the gauges and making sure everything is spot on is important to do 🤌
Broo that is a crappy situation but you definitely handled it spot on and genuinely I Don't think I've ever heard of someone doing that for pretty much anyone. Keep after it, good will come your way sir.
Just wanna see people happy and succeed 💪
I love how I went from a mentally demoralizing and confusing video about evos to you fixing an EJ.. definitely way more my style. Excellent video my dude.
I can tackle an EJ all day long 😅🔥
Your timming is perfect. Same bottom end as my LGT I'm doing this weekend. Had some great refreash tips that I was forgetting. Hats off to ya for offering the labor on his EJ. 👍
Eyyy glad I could help with some refreshers, hopefully thr LGT goes smoothly!
Watching you dissect the EJ is exciting to me. I'm fairly tech savvy when it comes to automotive things, but engine and transmission are two components I have not touched in depth. This is a whole new world to me. Smeedia: The EJ Magician. Stay amazing, bro.
You sir are a god send to the Subaru and car community
Trying to help where I can 🙏
I spun a bearing the day after I bought my first subie (the one in my picture). Since I had people like you, I decided to stick with cars because I love how the community can come together. Keep it up bro!
You my friend is what you call absolute diamond geezer here in the UK.. 🙏For helping the young lad!
Excellent move not leaving him abandoned wondering what to do next. Glad he understood that wasn't your doing & you're so willing to help him get the car running again. Great video as always with all the information & instructions.
Just wanna see him back on the road and willing to lend a hand however I can 🙏💪
Glad I'm in this era to have you sharing these awesome videos! Been wanting to refresh / rebuild my V4 GC engine, saving up budget for it.. its so refreshing to watch this video, you've done it in such a short time! How I wish mechanic here can do this fast
It shouldent take them too long to knock something like this out. But always enjoy these types of videos 🥳
You are an awesome human being. These things happen, its a learning curve. Teach him so his love for cars grows. Great work dude. you have my respect
Thank you Michael 🙏🙏🙏
If I had to have a learning curve like this I'd appreciate having someone like you around to help
🙏🙏🙏
You have such a BIG heart and that is so nice you are willing to help him out. You are DEFINITELY A1 in my book !!!!
Just wanna see him get his car back up and running 💪
Awesome video man i just got a long block for my 96 rs legacy cant wait to start doing this to it cheers for the awsome work
I really appreciate you doing videos like this as nobody else on UA-cam is doing it. Especially for these older gd chassis wrxs/stis. I personally own a 04 wrx with 260,000km and would love for you to do more refresh videos on different components. I’ve been around since the 05 sti build started and loved that as I learnt so much and could follow along perfectly. Bring back gd videos on other peoples cars PLEASE. You are a legend
I'll see what I can work out but I'll keep em coming 💪🔥
I can't think of a better Subaru content creator. thanks for all that you do and share.
Thank you for the support Richard ❤️
Fantastic, the way you helped the youngster. We all have done similar, and had to deal with it ourselves. Fantastic boyo 👍👍
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Stuff happens man hope he still moves forward with his dream build...you are awesome for go out of your way to help him like that
Trying to do what I can 🔥
I am so thankful for the end of this video and what I should look out for if temps get that high! I’m new to the subie gang, always looking for the longevity of my car. Love the power from the intake and the holding of boost from my new bypass valve but the health of my car is more important!
This is such a timely video.
I know I needed to refresh my 05 obxt but wasn't sure where to stop or if it's worth going this far.
Your a life saver.
Eyyy, glad the video helped 🥳
I cant wait till you open a garage (BECAUSE YOU WILL!) and do your builds along with customer builds. Gotta love this
One day 🥳💪
I feel for the owner and the only thing that can be taken from this is monitor the basics, especially after a rebuild or service. Parts fail even new ones. It's really awesome that you are helping him out though. I couldn't name more than 2 people that would do that.
Trying to do what I can to help him get his car back on the road 💪
Love your videos and content man! I just bought an 09 WRX and I’ve been watching a lot of your videos to learn more about Subarus. It was a sad ending on this video up until hearing what you offered your young customer. Good to know there’s still good people out here. Greetings from Sultan, WA 🤙
Not too far out! And yessir trying to help him where I can 🙏
@@Smeedia .. so glad I watched & caught my mistake.. my OEM spring clamps wouldn't fit, so- I replaced w/ wormgear ones; but I just found constant tension hose clamps at O'Reilly's (Gates Green Stripe 1-9/16 Inch To 2-1/2 Inch Hose Clamp - 32732) .. same price as the worm gear ones I'd used; now I know better.. thanks!
This video couldn’t have came at a more perfect time, Im waiting for my cylinder heads to come back from the machine shop and then I was gonna regasket the whole engine. Thank you!
Well worth doing while you've got it apart 🥳
This video is absolutely amazing and intuitive. Thanks for the heads up. Don't forget to listen to this transcript
Anytime and glad it helped 💪🙏
Thank you sir. I am going to need to do a refresh soon. As a daily, The miles have gotten pretty high. Despite the high miles this little guy hasn’t left me stranded. This should help me tons when I do.
Eyyyy glad that the videos helped Carlos 🥳
I’m currently driving an 06 wrx as a daily and it’s in good condition but I’m a broke college student, so I’m looking forward to the day where I can buy something new and use my 06 as a side car to learn on and maintain it over the years. I’ll definitely be using this channel when I do!
Bro, that is some awesome stuff you did for this guy, all the way around. Giving back half the money because you know how boned he is with his engine? Who does that!? Mad respect dude, seriously.
Just wanna see him get his car back on the road 🤌
This was informative and satisfying to watch. Keep it up man
Thanks for another awesome learning experience. It's always great learning new stuff for the STI.
Always glad to be able to share my friend 🥳
If you have the time a. Money 💰. Buy Toyota daily driver thank you 😊 Subaru are not reliable. All the video s. I. See Subaru wrx. Sti. Have a person working on engine all the I time
If buy a Subaru have experience working with motor. Or pay person to fix it for you.that’s a lomon. Like or not that my opinion my friend That’s why we live in country we’re we have free speech 🎤 thanks 😊
You’re a good guy. I asked my son, who’s a mechanic, what his shop would’ve done. They would’ve reimbursed for the cost of the tow and fixed the clamp. Nothing more. Driving a car without coolant is sheer ludicrously. I hope this dude knows you’re going above and beyond the call of duty.
I feel for the dude and have been there before, trying to help where I can 🙏
I can say I don't blame him or you, it is nice to see a stand up guy willing to help any way they can. Yeah it sucks buy in the end it's not the end all be all, we all live and we all learn to make things better hell I still worry about the most miniscule details after changing spark plugs and second guess everything to be honest. Love the transparency honesty and content. I really hope it goes smoother for the owner and their beautiful machine
I'm working with him to figure out a cost effective solution for him, he may end up with a semi built block now. With Temps as high as 250 big concern are the heads if they're warped or not. But just wanna see him succeed and get his car back on the road
@@Smeedia man you are one hell of a guy. Yeah those number are higher than me in highschool and definitely a big concern. I really hope it works out and not being to expensive in the end for sure. Glad you are working with him, it could have been way worse
You got a great attitude like you said we were all young once.
I feel for him, I've made similar mistakes 😅
Subaru Sifu
What you do for the Subie community is great. I wish I had your knowledge of this platform /engine. I did learn a few tips from your vids and love your work!
My gosh. Great video, and your dedication to helping people learn, and doing the most for them is truly desireable. Good work my man. Shit happens. Love your vids as always.
Thank you and trying to help however I can ❤️
We all make mistakes sometimes. So nice of you to help him out.
Trying to do what I can 🤝
Great video as always thank you for taking the time to show the complete process. Regarding the failed clamp- anytime i take a radiator out of a car for the first time since its been in my possession- its standard practice to replace both coolant hoses and associated clamps. Cheap insurance.
Ouch! definitely love the video though. Thats definitely unfortunate for sure. Weve all been there at least once because lack of understanding or knowledge. You are awesome for helping him out after all of that. Shows character my man.
Great video. Unfortunate for the owner but great to see you're trying to do everything you can to help out. Live and learn!
Trying to help where I can 🙏
I enjoy your videos and take on things. Keep up the amazing things you do.
Thank you Daniel 🙏🙏
You're a good dude. I like the "fuck it lets compromise" direction. Been there. On both ends.
Trying to help where I can 💪
I absolutely love this content something about seeing an engine being built is so entertaining. Shame the engine didn’t make it though we’ve all been there at some point.
Happened to most of us in one form or another, engine was running minty though 🤌
your channel / quality kicks so much ass - thank you
i noticed that you're from WA i'd like to have you work on my Sub... i have a 2010 Sub impreza that currently has has a bad water pump.. it a non Turbo... i watched the whole video i think you're a good an honest mechanic
thanks for showing your work.. and i wish the guy your worked on his car the very best of luck.
Eyyy, what area are you in? And were getting his car sorted out. Trying to help him how I can
Dang bro you have all my respect for giving half his money back and building him a new engine with no labor costs! This is why your my favorite youtuber🥹
Just wanna see people happy and enjoy their cars 💔
Best videos. Workin on a ej25 every now and then… just trying to get the ej207 to survive until then
Is it having some issues? 👀
Our boy to the rescue, he must be very greatfull of your kindness👌
Trying to help 🔥🙏
Looks so familiar, did this on the old Saabaru last year... still runs like a champ!
Eyyyy glad to hear 🥳🔥
Thanks for clearing up the different coolant issue. Dealership always tells me green for my '04. But i ignore them and get the blue. Thanks. Cool channel
Great video, despite the unhappy ending. Now you've got me wanting to replace all the coolant hoses and clamps on my '05 WRX!
If they're swelling, cracking ir getting hard, def a good time to swap em out 💪
I like the Tanner Signature on the Radiator cover, I'd pay extra for that! Def a gut punch but great video and major props for driving out to him and trying to help. Sometimes the only way to learn is the hard way...
He asked me to do it 😅🙏 some mistakes are some expensive ones but learn what you can from it and carry on
It's so awesome that you helped him keep that beautiful hawkeye on the road!!!! Really sad how this ends though. 😢
Hopefully he's able to figure out what route he wants to go with it 🙏
Much respect to you for helping him out
🙏🙏🙏
I seriously love your videos ! They're very informative and you dont drag your videos out either.
I've opened up my jdm ej205 to swap out on my 06 2.5i. I was wondering , since im doing the same thing , can i use the same parts you listed out or is this only for the ej25 series ? Thanks in advance if you can help !
Great attention to detail on this video man. Have a great 4th of July weekend 😀 😎
I've been there stay strong 💪🏽 🙏🏽
Deep informative 'movie'. Respect your hard work T 😀👍🏼!
Eyyyy appreciate Omi 🥳🔥
Awesome job, you're a good guy for helping this kid. It is a Subaru learning curve. Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. Great video....
🙏🙏🙏
Good shit for the reseal, but very sad to hear all that work was for nothing in the end.
Good on you for giving him half of the funds back.
For that youngling, hindsight is 20/20.
Don't wanna see his car down longer than need be so hopefully is back on the road soon 🙏
@@Smeedia agreed💪🏻
Great Video! Sorry the kid had to go thro something like this. You have a great heart in helping others and not letting him stranded with all his problems with the car! 🙏🫶🏼👍🏽 peace homies!
He should have his car back soon luckily 💪 brand new engine going in just waiting on his heads now
Awesome job helping a friend. Great video was very interesting to watch.
Thanks Mike 🙏💪
Oh man been there, had a turbo charged 99 325is that grenaded in a parking lot a week after I bought it. Drove it from Seattle back to SF on a popped head gasket had no idea haha. Milk shake started pouring out everywhere it could that night. Saw the temp gauge spike as I was pulling in the lot. Shut her down and coasted into a parking space. Had it rebuilt and enjoyed the heck out of it until I had to sell it to pay some bills. Now I have an 07 legacy GT limited that I hope to keep and build forever. I’m a fully converted Subie bro now lol. 🤙
Really enjoyed the different video content but was really looking forward to seeing the timing belt process for any key pointers and the correct process of how to the timing belt and pulleys 💯👍
I've got a video on how to do timing also 🥳
ua-cam.com/video/VaW6aUvOPUc/v-deo.html
Sorry about the outcome. Hope he can get it running soon.
Hopefully shouldent be too long 💪
Ur so under rated bro good shit
Eyyy appreciate it John 🔥💪
Tanner is the definition of good vibes! 👍🏼
❤️❤️💪❤️
We need more people like you.
❤️❤️❤️
Found just what I needed! Hadn't seen this yet.
This is a great video thank you bro fr you’re a legend
That sucks definitely a learning lesson awesome that you’re helping him out….
Trying to anyway I can 🙏
Awesome video thank you! I was hoping to see a little more detail on assembling the valvetrain, installing timing, and maybe even opening/inspecting the shortblock. Do you have other videos breaking these steps down?
Great video, love the content, thanks!
Amazing videos! Thank you so much!
I feel for him too. My upper radiator hose popped the other day when I was on my way home. Luckily I caught it before coolant temps could rise. Replaced the hose in 15 minutes and burped the coolant system and it was good to go.
Upper hose is a nice easy one to correct, don't have to go back under the car 😅
@@Smeedia it took longer to burp the system than anything else
Eres grandiasamente excelente en tu trabajos los haces con mucho dedicación paciencia y trabajas muy limpio felicitaciones y gracias por los videos que das mucha enseñanza .. bendiciones
The subie Jedi strikes again. Impressive work. That thing sounds sweet. Happy 4th, tanner. Whoo
Happy 4th Brad 🥳
I be learning from this....helpful for what I have to do
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you I needed this I got 04 wrx trying to build like the taxi you had 😀
Eyyyy, I like your style 🤌
Mad respect to you man!!!!!!
finally got to the end of this video - man that sucks. After i got mine running i was paranoid as heck for about 5 weeks - i did a quick few miles test... then checked stuff... drove a bit further and rechecked.. i kept doing that over and over and funnily enough i was paranoid mostly about cooling system because its such an easy thing to lose check of esp when your enjoying the sudden power and response hike and you can feel how strong the engine is. I'm so sorry to hear about the owners misfortune but man that is epic sportsmanship helping him out again - i hope he gets it running soon with your help and can finally enjoy his subaru.
As an ex skyline owner (I've had 4 Skylines over 15 yrs) i will say that its so easy for cars to quickly run hot. I'll also add i've had way more fun in my subaru taking it through the twisty roads in ANY condiitons and feeling confident vs hoping the 4wd system in the GTR will kick in as it should lol.
I 100% feel that, use to have a 93 GTST Type M and driven a few GTRs. The subarus for some reason are a blast in comparison
@@Smeedia yeah I think it's the AWD vs 4WD ...I had two gtst and one ran 500 and was hilarious as long as its straight.. any power out of corners.. nope! The safest of the lot was a 600bhp r32gtr and even that bit me once or twice especially on hard braking with the heavy nose and light back end!!! My subaru is slower for now but man it's more fun 😎👍
1/2 his money?!?! Holy crap you’re such a great guy.
That company 23 valve spring compressor is a freakin gem 💎 in comparison to other spring compressors available.
Thing is one of the best tools to keep around for any head work 🔥
Everything I have ever gotten from company 23 has been awesome. Even when I had my 1st gen legacy.
I love watching your content.
Appreciate the support my friend 🥳💪
Talk about being attentive -
I just had my truck catch fire from a bearing failure on a freeway, and my shit luck managed to get the fire out before the fire department showed up thanks you a couple of younger gents pulling over and helping to bail snow on the burning brake fluid...
It was 20m before the Fire Department showed
so fresh so clean
This is pretty much exactly what my Ej255 is going to get whenever I get around to delivering it to my friend. This video made me question if I should get new valve springs & retainers. I wasn't planning on doing them but now I'm considering it.
When the radiator popped on my VQ I hadn't noticed it for a minute, then I saw the temp gauge & looked in my rear view, yikes. I made the executive decision to drive the extra quarter to mile and get in the work parking lot instead of pulling off on the side of a rather busy road with potential police interaction. So far it hasn't seemed to have bit me in the ass, engine seems "healthy" more or less over a year out from that experience. That shit was pegged at the top of the gauge & pouring out white smoke.
If you can afford it, it's not a bad idea to swap them all out. The amount of white smoke coolant makes is wild 👀
@@Smeedia I'm already a couple grand into the refresh on the EJ so might as well... any suggestions? I'm looking at some Brian Crowers right now.
BC or Manley, I used Manley in Karma but either are good options.
Supertech is good too use thrm in the EG
@@Smeedia Cool cool. Thanks.
You are a solid guy👍🏻
I did a motor refresh on my forester right before a long move across the country and I encountered the same problem. Leaky lower rad hose.. Thankfully I caught it, but I can't tell you how stressful it was trying to keep coolant temps low on mountain passes and in desolate areas. Even put 2 worm gear clamps on it, which slowed the leak, but would always loosen up over time. Definitely going to have to look into getting those spring clamps.
oem spring clamps are the way
You should do a video explaining what to look out for when monitoring your cars health; what temps are too high, what oil pressure is to low, etc
Coming this week 💪
Hey Tanner, I work on these and other subaru stuff for a living, Mac Tools sells a socket called R.B.R.T. and with using an old belt to hold the cam gears and a good Ratchet or a Aircat 1/2 impact Ive had tons of success. Trust me, myself and many other Techs hate those cam gear bolts with a passion.
About to snag this then, ao tiered of drilling put cam bolts 🤣
@@Smeedia I can snag one from my Mac dealer and get it to ya
Great informative video. Have an 08 FXT that very randomly would have high or climbing temps. Would turn on the heat full blast and get some relief or stop let it cool down then when I got back home burp it. Replaced the thermostat and caps. Very little evidence I could see of any leak. Did fine for about a month then issue returned. Figured it was time for professional help, just not enjoyable to drive around paranoid about not maintaining a gauge scan and costing myself $$$$$ on a rebuild. My favorite shop found the issue, upper radiator spring clamp…
Was it leaking or just letting in air?
I had a 1998 GC8 555 series with EJ20 turbo engine boosted to 320 hp ..... I punished any car I found in our Swiss mountains ..... a weapon ....... I love the Impreza GC8 and the Lanser EVO 6.5 Tommi Machinen (because I got them) ...... thanks for your videos ... good job friend ;-)
Thank you and jealous of that 98 that you've got 😍
Been a car guy for a while, most people think these engines are complex. Quite the opposite. They are built with logic and assembled to be serviceable, unlike modern transverse V engines or even some inline engines.
