Live at Budokan is my favorite Cheap Trick LP and Need Your Love is my all-time fave of theirs. I wanted to get the concert DVD years ago but oddly enough, Need Your Love was not included in the DVD. I tried to get an import but my record guy said he couldn't find one with that song included. Was a big bummer!
+Colie Brice If Robin is "The Man of a Thousand Voices" as Rick says, then he is the man of "A Thousand Guitars" Sorry to see Bun E. go, but after he left, it made it possible for these gems to be played in concert again. He didnt like to change up set lists.
Robin Zander has some of the most unique vocals in rock music history make no error. Guy SO rocks. Love as the song begins and Zander's standing back just a tack - looking about as cool as I have ever seen him in the Cheap Trick's lifespan...Need Your Love is my 2nd favorite songs from the band...and favorite is obviously 'The Flame'. I was introduced to Cheap Trick by a fellow high school student who bought the live LP 'Cheap Trick Live At Budokan' to school and we played it as loud as we could possibly screw the volume knob up on the school stereo system...Ironically for me anyway was that when I was 17 in 1980 and in the final year of high school over here in New Zealand, I was going out with my high school sweetheart...she was a country girl and I was a city slicker who just so happened to be the high school athletics and cross country running champion, plus I played in the 1st XV Rugby team...so we were up against the 'judgement wall' right from the start - in the community where my girlfriend lived they were saying 'that city slicker's not the right type for her'...anyhow to cut a long story short our relationship ended after only 10 months. I bought my first motorcycle with money I earned in the workforce. My girlfriend ended up leaving town. A few years passed and we ended up meeting each other again around 1987. Although it was so good catching up again, for me the spark was indeed extinguished - we had both been hurt and we needed to move on. She went to Australia, married and had children. In 1990 I had my near-death motorcycle accident at the age of 26 over here in NZ. Ultimately I lost my entire left leg, hip, and half my pelvis, plus suffered numerous other internal injuries. I was very fortunate to survive and doctors & surgeons believed my high fitness level greatly contributed - I was an athlete and competed in road cycling, marathon running, and triathlon at the time of my accident. I thought my life was over. However it had only started...I continued competing in sport after becoming a complete left leg amputee. And in 1993 I became a New Zealand Champion amputee swimmer in my S9 category, winning 5 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal at the 1993 New Zealand Disabled Sporting Championships. And in 1994 I became the World's Fastest A.K.A. (above knee amputee) using crutches on my one good right leg over the Marathon. My time of 5 hours 58 minutes 13 seconds beat the existing time of 6 hours 22 minutes by 23 minutes. My time remained unbeaten for 19 years. In 2010 I had my good right leg hip joint replaced. I married my beautiful and loyal wife in 2005. I will be forever her Flame and she mine.
It was not successful. Sales were pathetic... They are a live band, no one paid attention until the bootleg recordings of the live Japanese tour started going public & then they released this live album & it outsold all the studo albums...
Guitar goes out. Robin takes the mic, and keeps the music going while the tech who is ON POINT hands Rick another one of his hundred or so guitars. This is such a great band. I think I've seen them 3 times now, and each time, they bought the house down.
I suppose the most underrated American (not a Limey amongst them!) band of all time. Loyal fan base and longevity speaks louder than awards and accolades. Thank you (and your parents!) for rockin us all these years.
I still get goose bumps when Robin sings this, 😍😍😍My goodness his vocals are still smokin! How many Rock Artists can claim this? He's taken care of them indeed💕And he still looks great too 😍😍
30 something years on and this song still rocks----all that is missing is the ooohs and aaahs from the crowd-------------a tsunami that rolls right over---------superb version!
Saw them back in the day they still ROCK.....miss Bun E. Carlos though one of a kind Unique he had a style of his own. Seemed like he was easy to talk to
hey this is amazing i was at this show. Great! This was amazing performance. I have seen them 6 times in the last 7 years. They come around every year. A couple of years ago they were in the area twice in one year. This concert was amazing. I told my buddy that was with me close your eyes and this sounds exactly like the album. I thought they were lip syncin it. They are awesome live
Terry Cooper. I remember seeing them when they played at their launching pad at waverly beach in Beloit Wisconsin. what a enduring band. I met them a few times.
Cheap Trick only has 2 songs that I can say I truly, truly love.....NEED YOUR LOVE & GONNA RAISE HELL... is the best. They bring back a lot of memories. and they sound great live. Totally awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
someone was throwing out ALOT of their old vinyl record albums which were found in a street corner garbage can that happened to be passing by with my half full shopping cart coming back home, so were taken out & put about a half dozen into shopping cart & one of those albums was the budokan one & that was the only one from this band, the others were from different rock bands--glad to have rescued those albums from a city trash can!! 😍👍👍
Everything about this show is simply amazing! Thank you so much for recording it and posting it on youtube! Such a treat for those of us who haven't had a chance to see the guys in a while.
WOW... I grew up to this song ,1978 live at " BootKon" or whatever, also meatloaf " bat out of hell" ,stones had " somegirls" , ,on top of that Aerosmith was killing it with " toys in the attic" ,then Ozzie Osbourne Black Sabbath has Paranoid" Jesus, you wonder why I had a nervous breakdown, drug court JAIL, divorced. I never had a chance think,oh..BTW heart kicking ass with Dog and Butterfly, slowhand , Clapton....fk...ma...ma.GET ME THE MEATLOAF...MA..MA.RHE GD MEATLOAF....GEEEZZZ

One of the most enduring voices in American rock & roll..

@@mfc1212us - Brad Carlson became an anti-American treasonist fool. That is sad. My favorite band and he ruined the legacy forever.
Best voice in Rock n Roll. Sounds stronger now than in the late 70's. Which male vocalist's is better?
And that all without any digital shit like Kemper line6 etc. Just 24 strings and an incredible Singer
I am from Rockford. I seen seen them at Waverly Beach night club IL 1975. Great
Man I loved this song from the day it hit the airwaves and wore it out on the album.....😁😘😘😘😘😘
This song was really never played on the radio though....

One of the GREATEST guitarists in rock, who never got the credit or respect he deserves- Rick Neilson
Exactamente asi es
Tom on bass guitar. He is their secret weapon
An incredible performance of a transcendentally excellent song from one of the finest live rock 'n' roll bands of all-time.
So well put, EC!
This song is exquisite. The guitars and Robin's voice are incredible.
I grew up in the 70ies but listening to this again it's like I woke up ...what a fantastic song and guitar playing
The original studio version of this really rocked, it was perfect. I'm amazed at the groups ability to still be able to do it after all these years.
And so tight, I've seen other 70dies bands revise their songs, but not as good
It was not successful.
Sales were pathetic...

Cheap Trick
Rick Nielsen still sizzles on the guitar. Is that Nielsen's son on the drums?
Vik Dylan yes
Daxx is solid and all over it, etc. but a discerning ear can tell between Daxx's sound and Bun E.
Wish they'd played this and Auf Wiedersehen @ RRHOF.
Sooo gooooooood
start about the 5 minute mark and witness music perfection
Where's Bun E. Carlos?
he retired
Wow. Kicks Ass!
I love all of the great rock bands and I will put CT/Foos/Nirvana on top of them all. They are so damn good. I don't care about your opinions, those are the best IMO
