What is your recommendation on the Michelin PS5? I have SuperSports allround. I need to replace the rears in thinking to put PS5 but is see soo much mixed reviews. Im from the Netherlands so same UK weather( roads are better). SuperSports are and old tyre introduced in 2010 so 2005 technology..
What you choose between a 140i or a 440i, because I’m choosing between them. The 140 is faster and lighter but the 440i has got the better quality of life option such as reversing camera, lane assists, sunroof, and self boot close etc.
You gonna drive your M140 in the coming winter? Can't wait for the videos of that, especially if you keep the open diff, will be very interesting and fun to see.
Awesome car, can see why you love it! How many miles did it have when you had those problems? did not expect that. And why was the speedo blured at roughly 12 mins in?
Good review. I like my m140i, but they could have made it so much better out of the box. The engine is fantastic but the standard handling and ride leaves lots to be desired (my other car a 2017 golf GTI performance would leave it for dead on a twisty road). I know it can be improved by modding but it would have been easy for them to fit better dampers as standard, even if it raised the price a bit so it is a bit of a shame. I also have a love hate relationship with the auto box. it's great for cruising around and in traffic but poressing on I find it lacks involvement compared to a good manual. Reliability wise mines been perfect, although it does need the occasional coolant top-up.
Did any other M140i owner’s eyes open wider when Tom selected the oil temperature readout from the menu? Mine does not have this!! I have to access a pain-in-the-a*** hidden service menu for this! 😅 Great video by the way Tom! I like your more grown up approach compared to some other channels and a nice balanced review 😊

Hi! I picked up a 2019 M140i at the weekend - absolutely loving it, however the garage I bought it from didn't really do a proper handover so I was wondering if you can answer a question I have about the car. I noticed you said yours has Apple Carplay around 10:44 - I have the "Pro Media" pack in my car which "looks" the same as yours, but how do I get the Apple Carplay setup? Note, I haven't connected my phone with a cable yet so that may be why it's not appeared. Hopefully not a stupid question but it's my first BMW car so it's all very new to me. Great video! Cheers
For anyone with an F21 1 series and a rattle from the boot in cold weather - after trying lots of things it turned out to be a rattling boot latch mechanism internally. A spray of white grease into the latch fixed it
15:20 did this feel twitchy or nervy at all with the stock diff? I've always thought any type of slide is best avoided unless you fit an LSD. Not planning on drifting like just wanted to know
Nah not at all, it's only at very high speeds (e.g. on track) the m140i can be a bit unpredictable. Like with any RWD car though, you need to know what you're doing and treat the car with respect.
Great video mate, thinking of going for 140i myself. Couple of questions: - I assume you bought an extended warranty from BMW? If so, what was the cost? - Did your double res delete affect the warranty? I would have thought it would have voided it but happy days if not!
Extended warranty is £485 for the year on these. Exhausts aren’t covered under manufacturer warranty so you can do anything apart from mess with the catalytic converter.
Anyone who is a keen driver you will want to do the normal things. Suspension, arbs, LSD, brake lines, pads and fluid...... Basically have a spare 10k to make it drive properly 😊
I bought an audi s3 from one of your reviews. You hit the nail on the head with your opinions/views. Im looking at getting one of these as a second car to modify tastefully as its a better engine than the 2.0l in the audi. Looking forward to this series.

The plastics are horrible on this car, the rear window door switches are held by plastic clips that disintegrate, probably the front as well and you have to take the switch off to remove the door panel. (Made in China) The rubber/plastic button to set the cruise control will also tear off in time. The speedometer plastic screen scratches easily from gentle wiping with a dedicated cloth. The door gaskets are pretty bad quality, the window regulator also tends to fail and lets the window down. The radiator has no real protection grill, a lucky stone on the highway will destroy the radiator. Many chinese components, FUYAO non-acoustic glass, trims (door handles are fully worn on my car)... The Harman Kardon speakers are just ok, nothing great. Basically it's just a sporty corolla, but the engine and gearbox are way better. There is no official turbo wastegate repair kit, if the led headlights fail you have to pay a lot for the driver or the entire assembly.
I love the M140i and being watching a lot of reviews and videos about it but Ive 2 children(3 and 9) and I think the back is small for chairs, so im kinda in between M140i and 440i grand coupe. If anyone has an M140i and has kids could let me know about the space for kids?

@@ZKRITTEX Legroom in the 440i GC is good, it's just the sloping roof line can make things a bit awkward to get in. If you can get over that then it's a great family car as it has a hatchback style boot as well.
I've had mine about 8 months. After 30 days I considered flogging it. The suspension is total garbage. Its crashy and pogo which gets worse the faster you go. Id say its verging on being dangerously bad. I got the birds kit fitted. It's night and day. Lot of money but I'd have sold it without having it done. You will not keep up with a birds car over a bumpy b road with stock passive suspension. I've also seen slightly over 51 mpg in eco which is mind blowing.
Which type of engine oil did you use? 0w 20? I’ve read so many different opinions, some only put in 5w 30 Also how many miles roughly do the rear tyres last?
Good quality 0w 20 or 5w30 are both fine. If you’re mapped and doing a lot of track work then a good 5w30 is your best bet. It more comes down to managing temps and changing the oil on time. Am yet to find out exactly how many miles rear tyres last but my guess would be 12,000 miles from the way i drive haha.
You can go through a tank of fuel going to work and back in two days when your commute is 8 miles one way? 🤔 Also why the blur on the dials at 11 minutes? You didn’t seem to be speeding so maybe I’m missing something 🤷🏻♂️ The above aren’t criticisms - sorry but text doesn’t carry tone - first video of yours I’ve ever watched as the algorithm put it in my feed 👍🏻
@@DjNikGnashers I think there are pros and cons to both. Handling/diff/b-road blasting/options as standard/rear space lean Cupra but BMW has the amazing engine and nicer interior quality? I don't think I would pay 3X more insurance (because of their accident rates I guess?) to have the BMW.
@@anthonymeek4248 You must live in a particularly bad post code area for insurance, because when I had an M140i (owned for 4 years), the insurance wasn't even double the cost of my car previous to that, a diesel E91 touring 3 series. So there is not a chance it would have been 3 times the cost of a similar catagory car like a Cupra R. I never owned a Cupra R but have driven many, as I worked in the motor trade. It is a level below in every area, slower, lower quality, lower residual value, and the Cupra isn't even any more economical, or has any significant gains in practicality. The M140i is very practical, great boot space, rear seats fold flat it's like a van in the back. I don't see the Cupra as being better handling either, and the M140i isn't known for it's agile chassis lol. They felt on par with each other, just in different ways, the Cupra being FWD obviously has to be driven in a different way to get the best out of it, and the M140i being RWD is completely different. I know which was a lot more FUN, and that is the RWD little bruiser M140i, by far.
@@DjNikGnashers It isn't the area it's my age (22) and the statistics around the car. I am also referring to a regular Cupra 300/290 (as was owned previously on the channel which the commenter mentioned). Are you referring to the limited-run Cupra R of recent years or the much older one? A 1 series feels a bit pokey inside, imo vs a golf and the boot is a more awkward shape to fit a nuclear warhead into (thanks Jezza!). I am torn between the two cars, but sentiments certainly leaned toward a stock 140i as being better suited to as a mini GT cruising high speed on dual carriageways versus the Cupra being the lighter-footed one (but still not touching focus ST, Type R, etc - though they sacrifice other areas further). Living life fast has a great pov video where he exposes the “scary” stock damping when pushing on and the comment section backs this. Wether that matters in day to day road use tho is subjective.
@@anthonymeek4248 I think you really need spend some time in one anthony. I bought a standard M140i in late 2019, it was just over 2 & a half years old, 14,600 miles 1 owner from new. It was an auto (the ZF8 is a BRILLIANT box), and had adaptive dampers. Up to 7/10ths it was a fantastic car, and it isn't until you really start to push the limits, that you notice it's flaws. For a daily driver, wow, it is very comfortable in comfort mode, the wife loved it. I took it to 455bhp/634nm with a 200 cell wagner cat and a day on the dyno, I had xHP software flashed to the transmission control unit, and upgraded the brakes to m performance dimpled & grooved. In comfort mode you could not even tell it was changing gear, but in traction off mode and sport gearbox, it was a beast. I pulled away from Golf R's, A45S's, RS3's, Tesla model 3 dual motors, base 911's, even an aston martin db9, mate they are rocket ships. Handling was 'good' but when you pushed it beyond 8/10ths, yes the damping was an issue, it did pogo a bit, the rear end felt loose and wobbly, it snaked under acceleration, and the steering is a bit numb. If you want a go kart, the M140i isn't one. A dual carriageway monster is a good way to describe it, and the tuning potential is massive, some ppl are running over 1000bhp from the B58, incredible. I now have an OG M2, which is better in every way, except for the engine, I really miss that B58.

The easiest check is to look at the front bumper. Non GPF models have a blocked vent on the passenger side. GPF models are open on both sides. I have a 68 plate and it’s pre GPF
PS5’s are very good imo. Very predictable and plenty of grip for an everyday tyre.
Perfect all rounder for me especially for the winter months also! Best tyres for this car imo
Excellent review 👍 Love mine. Can't fault it. Great value for money.
What you choose between a 140i or a 440i, because I’m choosing between them. The 140 is faster and lighter but the 440i has got the better quality of life option such as reversing camera, lane assists, sunroof, and self boot close etc.
you can get all those options in the 140i too. One thing i will say though is that the 440i has a better ride quality as standard.
@@ParagonCarsLondonm140i anyday for me tbf
You gonna drive your M140 in the coming winter? Can't wait for the videos of that, especially if you keep the open diff, will be very interesting and fun to see.
Yeah, it just becomes more fun, as long as you have the right tyres haha.
Had mine 6 years from new. Winter tyres every year. Makes a hell of a difference 😊
Hi please can you do a fuel economy video, I’m tempted to buy an m140I for daily commuting
motorway you'll do 40-45mpg and you can get 26-34mpg round town. If you floor it all the time you'll get 18-22mpg, just depends how you drive it.
Awesome car, can see why you love it! How many miles did it have when you had those problems? did not expect that. And why was the speedo blured at roughly 12 mins in?
Engine reliability is okay. But waiting 4 week for coolant hoses from Germany isn't worth it
Brilliant review - cheers for providing! Did your CarPlay come as a factory extra or did you get it coded in?
i had to get it coded in, was only £150 but works perfectly.
Map the box and it transforms it, couldn’t mod the 140 too much stock wise, otherwise it would have interfered with the sales of the m2
Good video. I'm in between this and Golf R around £20k mark both. Just really like the BMW, but not sure about fuel consumption.
i’d go for one of these. They do cost a bit more to run but absolutely worth it.
ive had both, mpg is pretty much the same. preferred the 140
had a golf r mk7 and 7.5 and currently got 140. i'd say go for the 140, it's more fun and faster.
Did any other M140i owner’s eyes open wider when Tom selected the oil temperature readout from the menu? Mine does not have this!! I have to access a pain-in-the-a*** hidden service menu for this! 😅 Great video by the way Tom! I like your more grown up approach compared to some other channels and a nice balanced review 😊
it's ShrEWsbury! Love the vids
I've noticed that the light on the infotainment system switches to orange at night and white during the day. Can you set it to white light the whole time?
It’s something that needs coding i think. It’s something i’m thinking of doing as the orange lighting looks a bit cheap imo.
@@ParagonCarsLondonAfter a bit of research, I found out you can switch between night and daytime mode. So if you want to keep it in daytime mode at night, you can simply change it in the settings.
Cheers
Good review !
Hi, where did you buy the sticky felt from for the boot rattle? Mine has the same problem.. thanks
Was just off of amazon. Fantastic for lining door cards as well
For anyone with an F21 1 series and a rattle from the boot in cold weather - after trying lots of things it turned out to be a rattling boot latch mechanism internally.
Ve Just Bought m140i shadow edition
Great video mate, thinking of going for 140i myself. Couple of questions:
- I assume you bought an extended warranty from BMW? If so, what was the cost?
- Did your double res delete affect the warranty? I would have thought it would have voided it but happy days if not!
Extended warranty is £485 for the year on these. Exhausts aren’t covered under manufacturer warranty so you can do anything apart from mess with the catalytic converter.
@@ParagonCarsLondon ah nice one, good to know, cheers!
hey, great review, has your car got the adaptive suspension?
Just passive dampers on mine, which is why i plan on changing them.
Anyone who is a keen driver you will want to do the normal things. Suspension, arbs, LSD, brake lines, pads and fluid......
Basically have a spare 10k to make it drive properly 😊
Great vid but the camera was a bit blurry sometimes 😂👍
How much is Bird’s suspension kit? The rough roads round mine but me off this car.
£1300 all in i think. You can get Bilstein B8 dampers which are very similar for less though.
I have Bird’s kit on mine. Came with the car. Ride is still firm but much better damped than factory apparently. Handles great.
Any tips or legal ways to reduce the insurance for this car for a 22 year old in london? 😓
Add your parents as named drivers.
Shutttttt up??!!! There's another 12v?!!! I've had mine two years. Had an m135i a few years ago as well. Didn't have a clue.
Need to check that!
i heard the m240i is a bit more stable, is this true? nice vid! subbed!
Yes the 240i has under brace and it being a coupe does drive better
in stock form yes it is.
I bought an audi s3 from one of your reviews. You hit the nail on the head with your opinions/views. Im looking at getting one of these as a second car to modify tastefully as its a better engine than the 2.0l in the audi. Looking forward to this series.
What sort of mpg do you get on the motorway from the s3
@@marcushumphrey3010 haven't used it on the motorway yet. Ive got it revo mapped and do short distances up a big hill to work so only averaging 26-27mpg
@@marcushumphrey3010 driving at 70, I get 37mpg.
Its a prospect car, its part of the m club ,but its not a fully fledged member and has flaws.
How much are they to service on average?
At an indie mechanic it’s around £180 for a minor service and about £240-£350 for a major service. At the main dealer it’s a lot more haha.
I think you bought a lemon mate. Had mine since new (7 years) and nothing has gone wrong. The forums seem to say the same thing.

@@tomdwyer5695how many miles did you buy it at? I’m looking at a 68 plate with about 62k mileage I don’t know if that’s high or okay for this car
I love the M140i and being watching a lot of reviews and videos about it but Ive 2 children(3 and 9) and I think the back is small for chairs, so im kinda in between M140i and 440i grand coupe. If anyone has an M140i and has kids could let me know about the space for kids?
340i estate is probably the car you want. Both the m140i and 440i GC can be a bit awkward when putting in car seats.
@@ParagonCarsLondon Not looking for an state tbh. I have an Audi a4 and there's plenty of space so I was assuming the 440i grand coup would be the same space.
@@ZKRITTEX Legroom in the 440i GC is good, it's just the sloping roof line can make things a bit awkward to get in. If you can get over that then it's a great family car as it has a hatchback style boot as well.
@@ParagonCarsLondon what about power driving compared to M140i? I was looking to get a test drive on both but nobody selling those near me.
@@ZKRITTEX The 140i is a bit quicker but only really because it's lighter. Both cars use the same B58 engine so they're very similar really.
nice vid bro
I've had mine about 8 months. After 30 days I considered flogging it. The suspension is total garbage. Its crashy and pogo which gets worse the faster you go. Id say its verging on being dangerously bad. I got the birds kit fitted. It's night and day. Lot of money but I'd have sold it without having it done. You will not keep up with a birds car over a bumpy b road with stock passive suspension. I've also seen slightly over 51 mpg in eco which is mind blowing.
Did the birds kit lower the car?
@gtaylor3281 if it did I can't tell. It was designed to be stock replacement. But I'm sure you can ask them to make it lower.
Which type of engine oil did you use? 0w 20? I’ve read so many different opinions, some only put in 5w 30
Also how many miles roughly do the rear tyres last?
Good quality 0w 20 or 5w30 are both fine. If you’re mapped and doing a lot of track work then a good 5w30 is your best bet. It more comes down to managing temps and changing the oil on time. Am yet to find out exactly how many miles rear tyres last but my guess would be 12,000 miles from the way i drive haha.
You can go through a tank of fuel going to work and back in two days when your commute is 8 miles one way? 🤔
Also why the blur on the dials at 11 minutes? You didn’t seem to be speeding so maybe I’m missing something 🤷🏻♂️
The above aren’t criticisms - sorry but text doesn’t carry tone - first video of yours I’ve ever watched as the algorithm put it in my feed 👍🏻
Girls car
The main problem with this car is that you sold the Cupra for it 🫤
Cupra is a level below in every way.
