Watched all your M140i videos one after this evening ha. Literally went and purchased one of these this morning 😊 picking up next saturday i cant bloody wait!
Love the M140 videos. Bought my wife one about 4 months ago. Had no idea it had been mapped until my son ( owns an M2 comp) said it's almost as quick as his. He commented about the gearbox changing quickly, but also how the Sport dials go to 480 brake.. Love it !
I know hardly anyone bought manual M140’s. And most people think “oh why would you” because it has 8 ratios and speedy and smooth shifts. Therefore objectively, I understand the argument, especially if it’s a daily with lots of town driving. I also know the complaints about the manual ‘box not being that nice to use. HOWEVER I feel like it gets written off so quickly and there’s almost no UK youtuber content of a Manual M140. And I know it sounds silly to moan about a minority not being catered to but some people would just rather have the manual for various reasons and it would be so good to see a direct comparison with the auto. And I absolutely love Tom’s reviews so I would love it if it came from him.
Does anyone know if the xhp is worth doing to a stock car? I don't get how it can be better / safer for the transmission? Wouldn't BMW engineers know what's best and have configured it correctly to begin with?
Had mine 6 years from new and probably will never sell it. MP LSD, Bird's tuned springs and shocks, a bunch of bracing bits, XHP and it is just a brilliant little car. And the dog fits in the back! With that setup it's also surprisingly comfortable which helps if it's a long term keeper. Had a 2017 M4 for a short while and agree with you that it could catch you out if you weren't careful. Could be snappy.

Nice man. How old are you? Thinking of getting an m140i but obviously, insurance is a massive hurdle at 21 but don’t think it’s possible. Not exactly minted, lol.
Have a manual mk7 gti at the moment. Started a new job so wanted to upgrade, initially was set on golf r dsg but have also been tempted by the m140i. Only thing slightly putting me off is the reviews on the handling especially in UK weather. What would you recommend as I haven’t test driven either car but I feel like I know what to expect from the golf r? Deep down I feel like I’d enjoy the m140i more but not sure I could justify having to load 3k of mods like the lsd and suspension to get it to handle decently?
I got a m140i in March. The handling is fine until you are doing crazy speeds! Then it can become a bit ‘floaty’ and feel disconnected from car. Not bad enough to warrant needing to spend £3,000 on it though
Have you driven the 2.0 M135i yet? By all accounts, B58 aside, it’s a marked improvement on the road compared to the old car with traction being its trump card. Be good to see an on road opinion of someone who’s savvy with the M140i.
I’ve driven one briefly. It’s a more capable chassis from stock for sure. Handles better and instills confidence. But with all that said, it’s lacking the sheer fun factor of the B58-ZF8 + RWD combo. Depends on what you want from a car.
I was in market for an M140i, until i got quoted £3200 for insurance. In the end i bought 2015 M135i which is 90% the same car, almost half the price and insurance only £1200. 🤷♂️
@@francescosaia4475 in stock form both the N55 and B58 feel very similar. Both butter smooth and VERY torquey. B58 responds way better to tuning, but is that one thing alone worth almost triple the insurance. I can justify £100-200 difference but £2000? M4 insurance money for an M-lite. I can’t.
I have an M140i and I’m from the Netherlands. I pay 900 euro per year road tax. Plus 2340 euro insurance per year. You guys in the UK are so lucky with car costs but you don’t realize it. but you have potholes…😂. These M140i’s where starting at 60K euro.. imagine financing..
"Oh yes, super crispy!" 😂 On topic, I do enjoy your reviews. Cant go wrong with an M140i, im considering one myself as a practical do it all car, would it be up to the job with a baby?!
@ParagonCarsLondon Thanks mate. M340i touring is also on the list (along with many others haha), but they do weigh a fair amount more which loses driver appeal for me. Never knew how hard it would be finding a car that's suitable for a baby that I'll also enjoy!
Adding more power without handing mods is a waste on mine got MP LSD ,h&R lowing springs , b8 shocks, spacers, under body brace, front strut brace, rear subframe bushing, xhp stage 3 , mhd stage 1, 98 Ron map and it is an absolute weapon on the b roads never gonna sell mine.
@@TheJaceyBoy it's not about smashing it is about when you go into a turn you can feel the LSD working with the extra grip and with the bilstein b8 it feels much more planted less role in the chassis even at low speeds. You can use most of the power with LSD with a open diff your losing probably third of the power going to the wheels with the handling mods it just changes the way the car go's and feels simple.
I agree, I’ve had mine for nearly 4 years and only now getting to the point of desiring more power. Hit a corner in these when stock and the car shits itself 😂. I’ve got b6 damptronic (adaptive upgrade) and mildly lowered on eibach springs. Has made a massive difference. Wondering if I need to do the LSD before remapping, I don’t drive it hard all the time it’s my daily car but wondering what do you think?
@@BOSKILLZX I did map mine before install an LSD the problem that I had was that It just moved around too much at the rear with the extra 80 hp so I brought MP LSD from Cotswolds BMW installing myself which is dead easy is just plug and play and it puts down that power so much more efficiently and if the back end does come out is so much easier to control.

If you ever get the chance, drive one with M sport adaptive suspension. Absolute game changer. Must have option along with HK and Pro Nav.
is adaptive suspension actually comfier than the M Sport one, or does it just allow for comfort suspension with engine in sport and vice versa?
