The last two bosses are a nightmare. Boss 13 chews quarters like crazy, and the final boss permanently kills you. I love the game and boss designs. Having finished Monster Land, and seeing the final boss here, I believe we fight an imposter who stole the previous hero's gear, and we have to reclaim it!
I kinda wish you hadn't used auto fire, well using auto fire is fine, but the fact you use it at all times...you can't really hear the music much and the whole video just sounds unnecessarily noisy. Which is a shame.
I believe I used the very old MAME 0.119 for this. I don't have the latest rom to test this on the latest version of MAME at the moment, but I tried 0.150, and I was able to save and load states without a problem.
Something appears to be a little messed up with the numbers in this series. I don't really know what could be considered the fourth game, since there doesn't seem to be one, even though Wonder Boy in Monster World is known in Japan as Wonder Boy 5.
One thing I noticed is that it seems like this arcade game came out a little earlier than the other one, although that doesn't have to mean this one can't be 4. The Double Dragon series is a little like this with the numbers in the title. There is a Double Dragon 3 and 5, but no 4, although that would presumably be Super Double Dragon. Despite that, a game called Double Dragon 4 came out not that long ago.
Wonderboy 3: The Dragon's trap is the 4th one. It was mislabeled as 3 outside Japan. Then another Wonderboy game was made years later and was called the 4th one. It never left Japan though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Boy
completely agree. Was a major step back from the progress made in wonderboy 2 in monsterland. Its probably why people ignore this entry in the series and go straight to wonderboy 3 the dragons trap. Possibly the best game in the entire series. (Not to mention its a direct sequel to the second game)

A final boss that doesn't allow you to continue, a longplay's worst nightmare! and those were genuinely bizarre bosses
So the final boss is Booke Lee Temijin, the protagonist of Monster World/ Wonder Boy 2?
♡
I think it's an alien who pretends to be him and stole his gear.

Which mame did you use? I cant save state or it doesn't load

@@arronmunroe which set rom?
@@arronmunroe It's running with save states with Retroarch core Mame 2003
@@robertomillan5536 I really don't know specifically which one it is, but something relatively old. If Retroarch MAME works, then that's good enough.
Why are there two wonder boy 3s? And no 4 is this 4?

Loooking at the timeline sms wonder boy 3 comes right after 2 so this has to be four

You would play more carefully if it were for real coin credits 😛 🙈 ❤😂🎉
