    I find what hurts the gaming industry (along with the graphics chase and preservation) is people not promoting the games that do things right. We only promote the bad games, unfortunately...

      Can you define what a good game is?
      What people define as good or bad is completely subjective.

    • @doommaker4000

      @@Kuudere_FanboyA broken game is bad. A game that doesn't deliver on what was marketed. Games with broken progression due to microtransactions. I'm pretty sure at least we can judge those pretty objectively.
      We can also attempt to judge how the game accomplishes what it tries to do. Doom for example, tries to encourage never ending cqc and we can judge how mechanics incentivise a player to do that. Ultrakill focuses more on freedom and style, the degree in which it is encouraged can also be measured fairly objectively. You may not like what the game is trying to do, but that's not what we're talking about is it. Otherwise every game review would be "idk, i liked it"

    • @5hane9ro
      @5hane9ro 9 місяців тому

      @Kuudere_Fanboy I'm using bad as a catch all term for commonly hated things in gaming. I may have not described my statement clearly. But you really only see the general gaming community talk about things like games with broken launches, predatory microtransactions, or other negative game news. I the general gaming community instead invested similar effort into praising games like Deep Rock Galactic, battlebit, or other games doing things right, then gaming would be in a better place.

      @@Kuudere_FanboyI think a good game is a game that anyone even people outside of the people who like that genre/game can agree does things right/effectively. I think full complete bug free games at launch are universally considered good games. While I see your point there are standards that people accept when it comes to games that make a a good game or bad game.

    I don’t understand why people are so obsessed in wanting hyper realistic visuals. Of course quality of visuals should evolve along with the quality of story telling and gameplay. No one should only focus on upgrading the visuals. I believe that just stifles innovation and creativity.

      Improving Visuals is an easy selling point for dumb people. The problem with constantly trying to improve visuals is at some point it’s going to stagnate and not only that but visual clarity and stylistic designs will be lost because people want hyper realism.

I would like to inform you that this mistake has now been rectified, as I played through the entire campaign in one sitting and got dangerously close to crying over a fictional robot. Thanks for showing me what is now one of my favorite games

    I whole heartily agree with this video, I personally feel like we should look towards making games easier and improving on the scope, gameplay complexity and gameplay fidelity. Having larger games with great gameplay and having a lot to do in the game will certainly warrant having to upgrade hardware time after time. But making games so photo realistic you do gain a lot but also lose a lot as well. With photo realistic graphics we are now missing out on stylised graphics, visual clarity and each game having a unique look.

      I heartly agree, my mom and I had a very equal perspective in games not needing to feel like movies and instead value a artstyle, she took World of Warcraft old models as an example and spoke of how simple but detailed the art was, I looked myself and realised "Do we really need realism? Or do we just need a unique touch of art that catches people's eyes better rather than just making realism like a movie?"
      Nothing wrong with movie styled graphics, but it must have gameplay fun than just the realistic graphics being the key thing.
      Never trusted any expression about graphics until I see the gameplay, systems and artstyle overpowering the graphics quality.

  • @BeardGrizzly

    Agree with all three. To the first, graphics can be an 'art style' and absolutely look better than realistic. I prefer it, because it makes the glitches we'll ultimately face less jarring while we play.
    To the second, that's the classic issue with modern day copyright and how the legal system holds ANY kind of preservation. Video games just get it the worst.
    And the third, you will get companies that'll be more transparent for a time, and then they stop because "Oh, everyone's happy again." It's a cycle and a BS one. I know Bungie was KING at doing this for many years with Destiny.
    These three points are generally why I find myself on older games or ones with very fair business practices. Warframe, Remnant, Valheim... the three main ones I am on per this moment. They all have something in common: Great communities with great publishers and developers. The list is not limited to these, of course.

    Definitely want better optimize games that are finish and properly price on their content. You're right, I can't avoid system requirements of any game. However, this industry has push this on everyone even those who focus on art design over graphic fidelity. As much as people give shit to the borderlands series atleast it has a style that feels timeless. I prefer the older games that were made as they're creative and unique and the indie scene just chases it without many understanding or getting why those are good. Then again, I hope for more hack n slash stylish games that I don't know about as there isn't that many, especially one's that are good.

    The actual problem with gaming right now is online interconnectivity.
    Its time we finally differentiate them as either traditional video games or as digital sports or digital adventures based on its online connectivity. As there is a fundamental difference that roots down to core experience making them dispassionately unique and largely distinct things. Hell, Call em DA/DVs if you want.
    But the fundamental difference is the experience and by not differentiating them we see less innovations from either type. All because of "broader market appeal". BG3 is a perfect example of this. Its taking a single player experience and effectively forcing that onto single player gamers. Its about as welcome as adding a 40+ hour campaign requirement before you could unlock multiplayer in say Halo.
    We need to let things just be what they are and accept not everything is for everyone.

    You know? I would even argue even bitching about it all the time might be just as bad as giving in and playing these games/buying the Micro transactions, ect. It just gives the publishers/developers that they hate more publicity and more people talking about them. Sometimes backlash works and devs and publishers take the criticism and learn from it. But, sometimes bad publicity is what they like as it gets them attention and them being at the center of attention just makes people want to do the opposite whether its positive or negative. Especially if you're like me who is a bit of a contrarian on popular opinions/beliefs at times and believe that just because it's popular doesn't mean its always right/wrong or whatever.

    Optimization and focus on the games working is the core issue with many big visual games. No reason a game like Doom released 4 years ago can have lower minimum specs but a game like Immortals of Avium have higher specs and even the recommended higher end PC specs struggle to run the game even though its visuals aren’t any better than Doom.
    Optimization needs to be a focus. Game can be nothing visually groundbreaking and still require a hardware upgrade to run the games decently.

    Content, mechanics, more intelligent NPCs, and then graphics. This is how the priorities should fall in order. But no... We got 'Artificial Idiots' in Starfield that run right into your line of fire, and graphical fidelity that REQUIRES an install on an SSD, because it takes 150GB of space. The entire industry is all Bass Ackwards.

    In terms of the constant focus on graphics I agree. While I’ve given people in the VR community shit for it, at least I understand why. It’s because people want to sell the general public on the technology (although I feel like having unique games would do that better personally). I also don’t like how it makes games focus so much on things like cutscenes in order to show this stuff off. I don’t mind games with a focus on story or a well told one (Return Of The Obra Dinn, or Faith:The Unholy Trinity for example), but the way a lot of games take control away to show this stuff feels jarring to me.

    I always rolled my eyes upon graphics, I value artstyle and gameplay over realistic quality visuals, I don't mind realism visuals, but at the same time I don't want it *too* realistic. It'd feel too much like playing a movie rather than a fictional world filled with endless fun.
    Companies are delusioned to value this over the quality of gameplay, variety and artstyle.
    The game devs simply forgot you can make an outstanding game without realistic visuals, take Fortnite or Genshin Impact as a good example, may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the artstyle over realism caught people's attention.

  • @YaBoiEye

    I also think its just a lack of optimization, developers in 2016/2017 were trying to figure out how to make realistic visuals DESPITE limitations, and with some of these newer titles, its more of a "well they have the hardware, just add better visuals" without using those tricks and workarounds they used.
    Though, i do think that you should be good to only upgrade whenever theres a new console, as long as your rig is slightly more powerful than the consoles of that generation, it should last you till the next gen, since the current consoles set the standards

    Until we get full dive VR I see no reason to pursue photo realism. I mean one of the longest lasting games is MineCraft for gods sake. Personally I think the graphics needed depends on the game I would love to have something similar to MineCraft but with LoZ:TotK graphics. But We've Reached a point where there is no reason to strive for higher fidelity, Oh my the face of my character I will never see(because its first person) except in a cut scene and even then is usually covered by a mask or armor so so photo realistic i see his sweat pores, peach fuzz, and stubble in full 3D. That is seriously pointless.

    I'm Glad that more and more people start getting tired of realistards, all you see on socials is "OMG LOOK HOW REALISTIC THIS THING IS" and never ever see them talking or playing the actual game, I'm on a group with some friends and there was this guy spamming horizon 2 screenshots and saying that it looks way better than starfield, you guess, everyone else was playing starfield and having a lot of fun with it those days, myself included, but you know some people just dont care about the actual games and instead just go full realistards on graphics and mock everything, i even saw people calling Hifi Rush a " android Game", this needs to stop, realistards needs to see what is the actual problem

    @anarchicnerd666 9 місяців тому

    Yep, there's definitely problems. Largely agree, wanna get more specific.
    1) With regards to visual fidelity, system requirements and graphics? Nvidia are largely to blame. There's an excellent video by AdoredTV on UA-cam titled "Nvidia - Anti competitive, anti consumer, anti innovation" that dives into Nvidia's sordid past, and when you consider their role in pushing the current Ray Tracing technology and ratcheting up prices? I'm not saying AMD, Intel and console manufacturers don't share a portion of the blame, they push their hardware and slot into the pricing structure... but it is Nvidia that is the market leader that sets the pricing structure.
    2) On games preservation - my god dude, it's gonna get so much worse before it gets better. I'm a retro games enthusiast - some of my favorite games of all time are Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Vampire : The Nasquerade - Bloodlines (yes that game has too goddamn much goddamn punctuation) and I'll be looking to mod the crap outta and play Thief 3, Oblivion and System Shock 2 soon. Here's the thing - x86 architecture for CPU's ain't the future, the future is ARM. Apple has already had enormous success with their iPhone, the M1 and M2, all of which are powered by ARM. But ARM can't do conventional x86 instructions? Not without a layer of emulation, and that's incredibly early days and unreliable. We might be staring down the barrel of a mass extinction event for classic games and not even know it yet.

    The solution shouldn't be don't buy a game if it just released and its frankly absurd that we've gotten to the point that we expect something to not work when you can pay for it at $70 no less on its release hell its even worse with PC Gaming Payday 3 has barely worked since its $90 early launch went up two days ago which has caused that edition to be completely useless because the servers have been broken most of the time and its always online to the point that you can't even play single player. Mortal Kombat 1 doesn't work on PCs that have the highest end of hardware due to the way its programed where anything cutscene related including Fatalities and X-Ray moves drop the frame rate from a rock solid 60fps down to 30fps at a moments notice and causes hitching and stuttering from the transition and lets not forget just how bad The Last of Us Part 1 was on launch this year or Starfield just a few weeks ago. As someone who did spend a stupid amount of money to upgrade my rig I can tell you now IT DOESN'T MATTER because the devs aren't optimizing the games for even the highest of the high end because they just don't care.

    • @josephkeen7224
      @josephkeen7224 9 місяців тому +2

      Why shouldn’t that be a solution? That’s how things work. If you don’t like a company or their business practices then don’t buy their ducking products. This goes for if a good game is released by a scummy publisher, like how Titanfall 2 was published by EA.

    • @BeardGrizzly
      @BeardGrizzly 9 місяців тому +3

      That's the reason you don't buy the product, however. Don't preorder, don't buy, don't support, don't anything with it. The reason is to not support this kind of release and then buy it when it's ready. Halo Infinite is apparently almost to where it should have been at launch, but that was two years more of stewing. The less we give them money and give our money to projects that rightly deserve it, the more that send a message. It's ultimately the only way you're going to see a switch, much as it sucks.

    • @KagatoAsuka
      @KagatoAsuka 9 місяців тому +2

      @@josephkeen7224You don't seem to understand my point. Look at the types of products we get now from using this sort of mentality they are ALL now releasing half baked and totally unfinished because we just accepted this I'd argue that if we hadn't done so the gaming landscape would have been so much better off and as such we need a different solution otherwise things will just keep getting worse over time. I'm not specifically talking about publishers that release shitty games and patch them later such as EA or something like that I'm talking about everyone look at WB, Activision, Bungie, hell even NINTENDO at this point is doing it with their products because everyone just accept that the first release won't be working or worth the price at launch and they should just ignore it and buy it later instead of doing something about it.
