It’s actually always been about both and nobody creates a hardware ecosystem that caters to its software and vice Versa quite like Nintendo does.
It only started to be about the games in 2006. Before the wii it was all about the hardware.

Switch Successor is not being released in middle of generation it’s starting 10th generation just like Switch started 9th generation. Sony and MS don’t define when the generation starts.

They need to make the dock like supercharged when the system is docked.
"Will it last 5+ years?" Of course it will, if the PS4 capabilities can still run games smoothly, look really good and honestly not too much reason for one to upgrade to a PS5 as PS4 can still do and play nearly everything the PS5 can, and I can see the PS4 still being reliable for years to come, then surely the new Switch with it being speculated to have specs equivalent to the PS4 hardware but possible slightly better but still underperform compared to the PS5 and the newest Xbox, then yes it will surely last 5+ years easily, only those who are really wanting/spoiled in something better better better all the time will feel it'll barely last a few years or so.
Honestly a PS5 is not a huge necessity for the PS line, heck even the PS4 pro is still very relevant if you want to argue that the original PS4 is "outdated" PS5 is good and all, and if you have the money and want to keep updated with the latest hardware then sure, by all means buy it, it's fancier and obviously better, but you can still get the same years of enjoyment out of a PS4 still, which is to say the same for the newest Switch.
The original Switch on the other hand, that thumbnail question of "Will it last 5+ years?" Should be more directed to those who want to hold onto the original Switch while the newest Switch is out and wonder to themselves, 'Will the original Switch last 5+ years?' because at this rate, I don't think the original Switch can keep up another 5+ years, not like its competitors where their last gen consoles can keep up for years to come after a new one is released, but the Switch for nostalgia reason probably the only reason to keep playing the original Switch for another 5 years.

Developers put games on smart phones. Why? It's because everyone has one. The Nintendo Switch is basically an overclocked Wii U with 2GB more of usable RAM which was a overclocked 360 with 512MB more of usable RAM.
It has sold 140 million units and counting.......
I don't understand the appeal of _choosing_ to be stupid and asking questions like this when there is a preponderance of data to prove to the contrary. However, for the truly daft out there let me make this simple.
1. Nintendo doesn't *NEED* 3rd-party to be successful.
2. If the gimmick of the next console (and yes it WILL have one) grabs people the way hybrid-functionality did with the Switch, it's game-on. Publishers won't care about the power short-term or long-term. They care about the cash.
You have to separate commentary from developers and publishers. Developers may cringe at a console that may max-out at 4 teraflops and be comparable to a XBOX Series S, but publishers could care less.
You also have to compartmentalize and analyze what is happening in the game industry. The game development that is necessary to take full advantage of these high-spec machines is literally bankrupting the industry. Studios are closing and folding left and right. We've pretty much reached the point of diminishing returns as far as realism goes. What's missing is creativity and innovation. Something that Nintendo just happens to have an abundance of.
Most of the people that need the horsepower to produce visuals that will sorely outclass the next Nintendo console would not be making games that would appeal to the average Nintendo gamer to start with, nor will you see multiple entries from them in that same arena. Rockstar, for example, isn't going to make "several" games at the scale of GTA VI, but I bet you that GTA VI WILL be "scalable" because they need to make back that $2 billion dollars.
So, the long and the short of this is that while we all would like Nintendo to be aggressive again like they used to be in the mid-90s where they pushed to innovate gaming from EVERY aspect and not just one by having bleeding-edge tech in their consoles on top of having the most innovative games and controls, _that_ Nintendo died when Yamauchi handed the reigns over to Iwata. Even though we've had two Nintendo presidents since Iwata's passing, the mentality and business model created under his reign still is in full force today. We'll never see Nintendo release hardware that has on-par spec with Microsoft and Sony. However, Nintendo doesn't _need_ to have on-par spec for THEIR games to look amazing. Nintendo has always had it's greatest success when they started out with an idea, and then built the tech around that idea rather than starting out with the tech first, and then trying to figure out what to do with it afterwards.

if the switch is built with USB c 4.0 40gbs nintendo could release a dock that increases the graphics once the PS6 comes out.

Agreed. So many good games for the PS2. Aside from the SNES, it’s my favorite system to date. (I do love my OLED though 😂)
I played the Crysis 3 Remastered (2021) on the Switch and it ran perfectly fine. The thing to remember is that a game needs to be specifically optimized for the Switch 2, not just do a simple port. If the developers work hard they will find a way to get a PS6 game running on Switch 2, guaranteed.

It’s towards the very end of the console’s generation that it utilizes its max technical capabilities. Nintendo knows this. They’ve stretched out the Switch and it’s still blowing out Xbox and Sony out of the waters in sales. Nintendo has always been a strong competitor in the gaming market because this is their industry. They’ve had a lot of trial and error. It’s Sony and Xbox trash talking Nintendo about “graphics” when they can’t even put out any games 🤣Make that make sense. So their hardware is powerful but don’t have no games to run it on. Uh huh. My Animal Crossing Switch has over 500 digital games that I don’t have even remotely have time to play them all, and I constantly see insults from Ponys and Xbots and the worst ones are the lazy PC incels, all dogging the graphics on my handheld as being “outdated.” Last I checked, Switch is still running fine. It’s Sony and Xbox having no games so they can’t even tell if their systems still operates or not. As long as Nintendo keeps cranking out games for the Switch 2, it’ll last however long Nintendo wants it to last. If Switch goes 9 years, why can’t Switch 2 go 12? It’ll have much stronger technical specs to make that possible.

I think when it comes to games that Dave’s just need to be focused on making really good experiences graphics have gotten to the point where it kind of doesn’t matter I mean it shows when it comes to the PS4 people are still playing the PS4. I feel like the only real way to innovate games is VR. I played Azar’s raft two on quest three and it was amazing and a very different type of gaming experience. I think if we want gaming to survive, DAD need to be focused on gameplay and experience in innovation through the concept of gaming. I’m sure the next innovation will be AI but you don’t really need hardware for that.

I think "IA" Thing is something else, like it only use in a small gadget as to maximize all that stuff in a small space. Like "Cellphone" plus it's futured technology that considered a power hardware in "Space 🚀 Technology".
I think the new xbox would have an s equivelant since nintendo made deals with nvidia and xbox was bought by nvidia so that would be more profitable for both companies since nvidia is in the new switch involved and will be making the new xbox so that would make the nintendo more viable for triple a game companies

I'm not worried about the power of Switch 2. The fact that developers are still making games for PS4 and XBOX ONE and still haven't moved to making games for PS5 and XBOX SERIES X fully actually bodes very well for Switch 2.
That's gonna make PS5 and XBOX SERIES X have a very long shelf life until games for last gen stop getting made and if Switch 2 is strong enough to get decent ports from PS5 and XBOX SERIES X, that automatically makes Switch 2 to have a decent long console life as well.
Developers are already breaking the bank and going out of business trying to develop these big budget titles for PS5 and XBOX SERIES X, you think their gonna wanna be so quick to abandon making games for PS5 and XBOX SERIES X when PS6 and the next XBOX comes out? They won't.
The Switch 2 will be good with many top 3rd party games coming to it for many many years to come. It won't have the 3rd party drop off period like the Switch experienced.
I ain't worried about the next-gen Nintendo console because I'm becoming a indie game developer, and I can't wait to start making awesome, bad-ass/edgy games in the future!🥶
But other than that, my three worries about the next-gen Nintendo console is Denuvo/DRM crap, lack of backwards compatibility, and digital only console.
God, I hope Nintendo doesn't reject physical games in the future, and I hope that the next-gen Nintendo console isn't the last physical system.

I want more power for rendering more on screen, fast loading times, and higher resolution without breaking a sweat.
I have a powerful gaming pc, and I just adore the speed of it. I'm not asking for a 4k screen. 1080p is great for handheld. I have a Rog Ally, and it's the best handheld I've ever played.
And I loved the PSP and DS. I just hope that when docked, the console isn't just slightly better than undocked.

switch 2 should release in January, hopefully before pokemon and the rest of the big releases. I don't see the legs lasting to long on Switch 2 for the stories, gameplay the devs are trying to tell.
As long as they build a system that will allow Disney Dreamlight Valley to increase the item limit for Switch players I’ll buy it! And maybe even two like I have now.

This all comes down to sales and their position in the market with switch 2. If it’s selling and is in position 1 or 2, ports will come. Specs don’t matter. Even Activison old boss has come out and said he regrets not putting COD on switch. It’s literally losing money for a company to not support a successful system if it’s technically possible. SPOILER ALERT… it is in modern times of technology and architecture.
Why would anyone be looking at the switch and the PS5 and comparing them like comparing the game advance to the PS3? For example we know that the PS3 is more powerful. We know that the gap between the PS5 and the Nintendo switch is big. The performance is very good on the switch. I just think it depends on the game if it’s a game that’s on both PS5 Xbox and the switch then we know the switch is not gonna be as good as the other two. These games were designed with the other two in mind, they don’t take into consideration of the limitations of the switch hardware. There are games on the switch that can run at 60 FPS as we’ve seen with with effort put in such as Metroid prime remastered and no doubt Metroid prime 4. Maybe the switch didn’t impress you Zach when it came out but for me I would’ve been blown away by the witch yes it’s not hyper realistic but so what? I’m impressed by the games on the content of the games like Super Mario Odyssey which impresses me in the eight months after I got it from my switch OLED.
Nintendo's consoles have historically had less computing power than most other consoles. I would like the Switch 2 to have the capacity of a next-generation console. Specific games should function at 120 frames per second.

You never need more than 60. The human brain is not capable of interpreting faster than 30 fps, it’s the input accuracy that depends on higher frames. That stops being relevant at 60.

The other challenge is the murmurs that Sony and Microsoft will release their own handhelds. Part of that has me really excited; we could have an actual console war again. However that may leave less on the table for Nintendo when their coolest feature this generation is shared by other consoles.
Again you don’t get it so and Microsoft will be a stretched as Nintendo was when they had two systems to support each generation handheld and a console and by combining that now with the switch Nintendo will not really be frightened by Sonia Microsoft Sony has had experience and success with their handheld such as the PSP But the PS Vita flopped and they were all in on it and still the DS won against the PSP, you underestimate Nintendo.
i just want nintendo to make 2 consoles one handheld and one home console so we arnt limited to handheld console limitations

I think console graphics are at their peak and that the next consoles would only improve in performance. I also believe that most game developers that are producing games for ps5 and xbox series x, are so focused on making a game that is graphically amazing they forget to make them run good and be fun.

It doesn’t matter. Games were still releasing on PS4 last year. Games aren’t remotely close to pushing PS5 limits, on average, so Switch 2 will be fine as long as Switch has been, at the least. It’s closer to PS5 than Switch was to PS4

I had to give you a thumbs down on the video. As of right now Nintendo is on top. 3rd party games will take years to make on more powerful consoles like PlayStation 6 and Series X2. By that time Nintendo's own Ips and second party studios would have created legendary games with their sequels with amazing graphics while we waited for one port of a game. Times have changed. The Next Nintendo direct is going to prove that with release dates. Something X and S couldn't even deliver. Enjoy

The thing is nintendo so far behind. The biggest problem I see is getting graphics is less important than cpu. Because it will probably be easier to run a 1080p or 900p system with a good cpu. Backwards compatibility is what I am looking for. If they don't make it I won't buy Nintendo system. I bought wii u got burned. I bought wii we got few exclusives and a lot of shovel ware. I am so burnt on nintendo. I own so many games, but they run like crap. I love my steam deck. I love my pc. Nintendo, if they raise prices to 70 dollars, I am out. Nintendo won't just give us good hardware to run games at 60 fps. I want free upgrades to games on switch. I want Nintendo to want me to buy the system. Currently, I am burnt out on what Nintendo system is capable of. Breath of the wild should be 60. Totk 60 new Mario kart new 3d Mario metroid trilogy and 4. New punchout game. New kid icarus game. Give us mother 3 upgraded or not, idc. New f zero game. Give us new games and also give us the ability to play older games while new ones being worked on. It's been 10 years since the last Mario kart game. Mobile doesn't count. It makes me sick, we have to wait 10 years for a new game.
Nintendo is a business. If you understand what their goals are you will never get disappointed again.
@ThinkTinkh They continue to disappoint me. They never fixed pokemon Scarlet and Violet. That was a lie. They are talking about increasing prices. It's disappointing when other games look better and last longer to play. Hardware is lacking, and no backward compatibility will be the end of me not buying their systems. They don't have consumers as a goal when they lie to us. When they refuse to release games, we ask for. Nintendo is so tone deaf that this generation could be the one the breaking point for them, too, just like Sony and Microsoft.

The Switch 1 is in its eighth year and could still last a long time. Is there a gap in technology? This is a fact. But complaining about the technology that will be used in the Switch 2? It must be the same people who complain that development times have increased exponentially due to development complexity. Let's see how many new and exclusive games were released for the PS5 and the XBox Series X. I think Nintendo is once again right in not going crazy and focusing on cutting-edge technology. The Switch 2 will come at a good time and if the rumors of a power equal to the PS4 Pro or close to an XBox Series S... Wow. I think that in a team that is winning, they don't move. And sales of consoles and games show that Nintendo's direction is the most correct today. They will not compete with Sony and Microsoft on cutting-edge technology again. Developers should already know this by now. That's my opinion.

Ok, let me rephrase that. I don't think they care about getting triple A games out right away on the switch. I didn't say they didn't care about third party support. But they know that people that want to play to play those games are going to buy a PC, a PlayStation or an Xbox, will mobile be nice, yeah, but there is no way it will match the performance of the other systems. So will they make games for the switch? Yes, but they will ride on their own line of games to be the All Stars and let the other titles be filler sellers, that will sell enough.

Even from the get go they would want switch 2 to shine with AAA games coming exclusively for it over the switch 1.
@@ThinkTinkh there is just no way that games like GTA 6 will perform as well on the switch as they do on the other consoles, so it's not going to drive sales. So they are not going to sweat it when they can sell the next Mario Kart.
I think Nintendo can do it & a small important part of it is that they need to listen to they're fans/consumers for what all they want.

I wasnt a fan of the wii although I knew it wad going to be many times more successful than the GameCube.
I did like the new 3ds (although the whole ds line was just a rip off of gunpei yokois game and watch dual screen system).
I'm fact the motion control wasnt even new they had motion control in one of their controllers prior to iwatas reign.
But iwata was an excellent president nonetheless. Accountable, humble, and ready to balance the needs of the western gamers with those of the eastern gamers.
So pre iwata was good post iwata will likely be good, Iwata was just a different breed president

I dont know, ps5 and xbox games have become more expensive because of the power. This creates longer development time and less releases over the year, i see more games coming to switch 2 than the other 2 platform because it would be cheaper than the next ps or xbox platform
Last I checked Nintendo charges 70 for games too, so I think you’ll find their games cost as much to make.
Also IF the games cost less to make the only ones coming to the Switch that benefit are first party, no third party will leave Sony and Xbox out.

The next system is going to come out nearly 5 years (at earliest) after the PS5 and Xbox Series. That's not middle of a generation. That's being on time.
The switch 1 came out at least 5 years after the Xbox one and was more poweful than the Xbox 360.

PS5 has the best hardware. It only sold because of scalpers. If you look at at the Wii U, it had more exclusives at PS5 half life. Nintendo is fine. The next gen will be worse than this one.

The switch has old and bad graphics and I wouldn't expect that much about the switch 2 compared to the PS5 and Xbox and other systems.
The switch 1 came out at least 5 years after the Xbox one and was more poweful than the Xbox 360.

Ps5 is only expected to last from 2020-2027, so I would expect the Switch 2 to last 7 years. The Switch has lasted 8 and will probably get support for 10 by the end.
I expect ps5 to last longer. I think a similar cross gen path will happen. Because people will finally buy a ps5 and go wtf you are already ending it as soon as they drop the price of it. So people won't move forward again, and we will be right at the same point. They will never get out of that 250 million bubble until they release systems for 180 countries that don't have it . They are lazy for not trying to even get psn accounts even if it's only for pc players.
The switch never seems to drop in price, my sons has broke and I thought I'll buy him a new oled version then when I saw the price I got him the ps5. I would still buy a switch if the oled was £200 surely with the switch 2 on it's way they have got to drop that price to shift whats left on the shelves.

While they have one more game published on Switch than me, we should also keep in mind that this is two younger dudes who mainly make UE4 asset packs who, if they even worked on the Switch port themselves, very clearly had no idea how to develop on an ARM mobile platform, couldn't (or just wouldn't) scale their assets and do other optimizations for Switch where it was desperately needed, or a little of both.
Kudos to them for releasing a game, but they are hardly any more authority here than the dime a dozen UA-camrs about to talk about this

At this point I gotta ask what do game devs need more powerfull hardware for? Surely it ain't physics or game mechanics as some of the most physically and mechanically most complex games already run on switch.

Agreed they haven’t even announced the new system yet. I feel like from when they announced the new system we will have a year of game releases from that point before before they stop direct support and another year beyond that when most companies as far as third-party goes drops support for new games, so I see the switch to or whatever it’s called will be announced at the end of this year or should I say by the end of this year, which leads me to believe that we will have games made until spring of 2026 now by that time I think it’ll be far a few in between, but they will be smart to support and at least release some new games even if more basic games over the next two years they will have to sprinkle in a few decent size titles, but I don’t see any mega titles on this system at this point. And then I see another year beyond that just because the system can easily be supported and updated two year 10 with no issue and then of course by that point it’ll be definitely legacy but as long as they keep making new batteries that you can replace it with you probably could keep updated the switch if you really wanted to

I think that the consoles power is less of an issue now as there are other key things that come into play to be able to use that power. Such as tv/monitor, WiFi strength the user themselves.
I believe as far as plug and play devices go we are maxed out without investing into other tech and skills such as is needed with PC gaming.
This is one of those times where Nintendo should take a loss on the switch 2 hardware. Oled is a must, with the system being underpowered at launch. So hopefully Nintendo ponies up and spends some $ on hardware.
They should not take a loss just yet. Maybe on a possible mod Gen refresh, maybe on whatever comes after the switch 2.

Why should Nintendo take a loss? Just because you’re obsessed with graphics and power? Does it mean the rest of us are? I’m certainly not Nintendo strategy is working and the switch did what it set out to do and changed the game forever. All I care about is that switch 2 addresses the issues with the current switch and powerful enough that they won’t be any need for a switch pro Nintendo realised long time ago that the chase for graphics and power is pointless and gameplay is important.

If it wasn't for the pandemic we would have had the switch pro running most likely on the Tegra x2, and have the switch 2 at a likely higher spec.
But the jump would be lesser. A console generational leap is only special if the existing hardware is underpowered.

If the Switch pro would have come out, it is almost safe to assume the switch 2 from that time line would have been more poweful than the switch 2 we are getting, meaning it's also likely it's upscaling technology would have been even greater than the 2025 switch 2. So the jump from the switch pro to that switch may have been similar to the jump from the switch 1 to the 2025 switch 2

we have reached the peak of realism at this point with the exception of delving back into VR (and look how that flopped). You don’t need to see 50,000 blades of grass moving uniquely to have a good game. Nintendo indeed has made its foot print based on games that have great stories and lovable characters (Link, Mario, Pikachu etc) Game freak is a perfect example of this. They have put out the same old BS formula for the last 15 years (Legends Arceus broke that chain sort of) and people still gobbled up every Pokemon game like thanksgiving turkey. Tech heads are the ones pushing for more and more graphics but at the end of the day what does it matter if the game itself sucks and leaves no lasting impressions in our memories? If a company makes a new IP and it’s visually top tier but the game is horrible, I could care less if they make 5 more sequels. Chances are I won’t buy them bc the first one sucked. I could pop in Halo 1 from 2001 and have a blast replaying it. Not for the graphics mind you, bc the story and the gameplay. We are getting away from story telling and focusing so much on how real it can look…we live in reality…how much more realism do yall need? Lol
technology is moving faster then devs can fully utilize or understand.. nintendo will fully devolope whatever hardware they decide to work on...and thats enough for me...sony and MS are the opposite of this.....tech is going to implode because of that
The ps5 and Xbox are a disaster they have almost no games. What’s even more tragic is that you can play almost every ps Xbox title on pc except 2 or 3 exclusives. The time it takes to develop games make powerful consoles useless. You better have games with less beautiful graphics good gameplay and low dev time…
That's a Stupid question, look at how long the Switch is going for. Nintendo doesn't care about years, as long as the system sells, they'll sell it. If the Switch picks up steam again after today's direct don't be surprised if you don't see a successor until Holiday 2025

Honestly, if they have VRR in the internal display it'll be amazing its entire life cycle. For docked it would need upgradable modules with extra processing power in the dock to keep up. I don't think that'll happen. Mid gen refresh could solve it, but I doubt that too. By their track record it'll fall off and people will complain until they release the next gen 😂
Why does everyone keep saying the switch didn’t have good graphics when it came out? No other portable device was even close to what the switch was doing at the time. It was absolutely great when it came out. Seeing Wii U games with improved graphics in a handheld form was mind blowing at the time. Breath of the wild was incredible. It didn’t age too gracefully thanks to the new pc handheld market but it was in a league of its own really for its first 2-3 years on the market.

You are right that we did not see anywhere portable in the same degree "what switch was DOING" sure, but saying that those graphics did not exist in the handheld switch is utter hogwash.

Only pc handhelds at the time had intel atom CPU’s and extremely low end Integrated graphics. The graphics performance between handheld and docked modes isn’t that large honestly. Usually just a resolution difference.

The graph of graphical capabilities is probably a decay so the better the graphics the closer the limit and I think the ps4 is capable of running next-gen games even if it’s at 30fps, and with dlss we would probably get 60. 1080p 60fps call of duty and it’s a good and powerful console.
If the ps5 comes out late fall 2027 snd the switch 2 comes out march 2025 thats 3 full years sony supports last gen for at least 1 full ywar so it is ok from march 2025 until 1 physcal year 2029 so it will have 4 years under the son where it is strong enough to get all 3 partty support
It’s interesting however I would counter with, all these new consoles’s power are now hitting diminishing returns, how much better can a game look? Would 3rd party developers always develop for the highest power console? It would cost more and take longer to develop, why not upscale to those rather than downscale to something that probably has more of a base?
Not worried at all it would be no different than the current situation. Plus I’m still waiting on freaking games to play on the two high-end consoles that I own now. I have nothing to play on them been waiting for nearly 5 years for something that showcases what they can do. Looks like I’ll be waiting another five years.

I wouldn't mind paying more for efficiency. You have people buying 1k + phones yearly that they don't even need.
If it sells well enough, they won't care about the graphics. Or at least their higher ups won't
