CLIP DESCRIPTION:
McClane (Bruce Willis) gets Sgt. Al Powell's (Reginald VelJohnson) attention by throwing a dead body out the window and down onto his police cruiser.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's Christmas time in L.A., and there's an employee party in progress on the 30th floor of the Nakatomi Corporation building. The revelry comes to a violent end when the partygoers are taken hostage by a group of terrorists headed by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), who plan to steal the 600 million dollars locked in Nakatomi's high-tech safe. In truth, Gruber and his henchmen are only pretending to be politically motivated to throw the authorities off track; also in truth, Gruber has no intention of allowing anyone to get out of the building alive. Meanwhile, New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) has come to L.A. to visit his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), who happens to be one of the hostages. Disregarding the orders of the authorities surrounding the building, McClane, who fears nothing (except heights), takes on the villains, armed with one handgun and plenty of chutzpah. Until Die Hard came along, Bruce Willis was merely that wisecracking guy on Moonlighting. After the film's profits started rolling in, Willis found himself one of the highest-paid and most sought-after leading men in Hollywood.

One of the most satisfying moments I've ever seen/felt in a movie - when the body hits the car and all hell breaks loose, and the situation is finally realized by the police.
like the bank shootout in the movie 'heat' one of the best
This was one of McTiernan's best films. This and Predator.
Clever writing for this film
As if the police were useful in this movie. (Except for Sgt. Powell.)

John McClane was one of my dad's favorite Action Movie heroes he introduced me to John McClane when I was in 7th grade back in 2007. He died in 2018 suddenly due to an illness and ever since then my mom and I have a tradition every Christmas to watch the first two Die Hards to honor him.
Oh I’m so so sorry for your loss!
you’re amazing for doing that for your dad.. sorry your loss buddy ❤️

The saddest part of this scene is Bruce Willis lost about 75% of his hearing in his left ear when he shoots the guy from under the table. You can see him wincing in pain from the blanks.
Do you think it has something to do with his current mental condition? Losing one's hearing...maybe affects the brain?
That's just what happens when you fire in close quarters however adrenaline is so powerful that people who do fire in fights are so angry and scared that they literally do not "hear" the shots.
@@Seriona1 Richard NMI Marcinko US Navy ret SEAL 🤿 called it "combat deafness". RIP Sharkman! 🦈
^This. I feel so bad for him. Just one of so many iconic scenes from this movie. You just wish they would have at least tried to hide some type of protection in his ears or figure something out. Regardless, Bruce Willis playing John McClain will forever be one of, if not the best characters in action films ever.

The Italian got killed three times. Amazing !
If you watch it slower, you can also see the cord the body's attached to, and it stops moving in one direction and magically gets yanked back in the other... Lol
Also, the rear doors are black when in the earlier shots they were white.
Seen this a hundred times and only noticed that now, cheers for the info! LMAO
I love how realistic this movie is. John not having shoes, keeping count of everyone left, having to scrape by with every gun and bullet he can. So cool
It's realistic when it needs to be, it's highly unrealistic when it needs to be. A perfect blend imo.

Watched this on Chirstmas Eve. There's literally no flaws with it. Such a great film. Its one of those movies that honestly becomes a must watch to watch on Christmas because you can never go wrong with it, its just perfect, legendary, iconic and the legacy it has is HUGE especially when you first watch it like I did. Glad to have finally watched it. One of the greatest action as well as Christmas movies of all time. An iconic, legendary, standout, and amazing film. A film filled with so many iconic sayings like "Yippee ki yay", references about other films, actors, and much more to even mention as well as say about this film. Like its not one of those Christmas movies about joy or happiness but a Christmas film, that is filled with action which is what makes it so unique. Its a film about emotion, being a hero, fighting, against all odds and etc. Like every single part of it was amazing, the story, the characters, the music, the action throughout the film; where no matter what, you were always on the edge of your seat as if you were the character, constantly experiencing his emotion, what was occurring, his humor, the action, it was like a roller coaster of emotions that is honestly better explained if you felt it as well as watched it since you were constantly cheering him on as well as worrying what was going to happen next, and him coming out as a hero, his legacy, alongside saving the day. Like every year, I always watch a Christmas movie with my twin brother, since he always recommends new Christmas films to watch together on Christmas and when he mentioned this, which is a film we've never watched before only until now, it really goes to show how amazing it was & probably his best pick & by far one if not, the greatest action film of all time as well as Christmas film of all time due to its uniqueness. Like I honestly can't believe how this film came out in 1988, and how advanced it was for its time, especially with how great it must've been in that era. It's honestly hard to find anything unique to this type of film like what a time it must've been in that era to be alive. Such an excellent cast, especially Willis who honestly never fails when it comes to these types of films especially when it was in his prime. Sad to see the condition he is in now, wishing him all the best as well as hearing about Gilyard passing away a couple of months back which honestly makes you look back to the film and see how amazing he was. Same with Willis when he was in his prime. Like the amount of people that still watch this film and mention about it, really goes to show how much of a legacy it has, and how its by far the greatest action movie of all time. Truly unforgettable, especially every scene which was just so iconic, amazing and so much to say about this film. Like its a neverending page of words. Like if you're picking out a perfect action film to watch that will always make you on the edge of your seat filled with emotion and always focused this is your film to watch. 5 stars.
Honestly I love the first three movies and the R-Rated cut of the Fourth one... that's where it ended for me.

@@matthewpasnik95 His name is Al Powell, not Carl Winslow. And I'm not sure if the distress person (who we saw earlier) heard shots or the crash, just Al driving an out of control car and screaming.

As they say, "Yippee ki yay" Such an iconic film! Every aspect of it was amazing, the storyline, the characters, the soundtrack, and the action were all great and literally legendary! Decided to watch it on Christmas day again, and what a film. Hard to find anything similar these days, what a time. Such an amazing cast as well, especially with Willis in his prime. 1:49 I never noticed this until just now: in this shot, the camera is positioned in the front window of Argyle’s limo. It’s focused on the rear window, capturing the police car rolling backwards over a small but pronounced hill. Right before the camera refocuses on Argyle, you can see the gunman’s corpse flying straight off the squad car’s hood. It’s actually pretty funny.
LOL!
All late
Um, that was part of the joke. As a side note, if you pay close attention to the body, you can see what they did in order to make sure that the body flying off of the hood was pronounced enough for the audience to see it. They put the "body" (a dummy...obviously) on the hood of the car, then they tied ropes to the dummy and secured those ropes to something back where the car was coming from. When the car goes over the bump, the "body" not only gets thrown up in the air by the movement of the car, but it also comes to an immediate stop in midair. They wanted to keep the "body" in the camera shot so the audience could see it, and it looks hilarious when you realize how quickly it stops dead right in the air.
@@johnnytyler5685 In my defense, I still watch all 3 “Die Hards” on my old school VHS cassettes with “pan-and-scan,” so that particular joke is kinda lost with the reduction of the aspect ratio. Seeing this joke in the full aspect ratio here is revealing and weird, haha.

A bit of trivia: when you see Bruce Willis wincing as he shoots through the table, that was literally because he was getting hearing damage from firing in a confined space without adequate ear protection. Take it from someone who's done something similar, doing that indoors (or even outdoors near a wall) is enough to make your ears ring in a very bad way. But in case the authenticity of this movie was ever in doubt, Bruce was such a badass that he stayed in character and kept firing. 💪🎄
