  • It is said you need to remove left catalytic converter to get the starter out. When I get mines out I’ll make a video how I did it

    Thank you for the video. Dealership wanted too much we're going to try this ourselves.

    Thanks for the vid, though it kinda avoids what I needed to see. I've been a shade tree mechanic all my life. Changing a starter, alternator, water pump, power steering pump, was a 1 hour job on the old V-8's from the 1960-70's. The Big Three auto makers, complained that they were shutting down auto centers, cause people could fix it themselves. They first changed the fasterners, which is why they came out with the torx bolts. The repair shops were the only ones that had those wrench's. Then, they changed up the way they built and installed motors, where a simple task now, like a starter, sitting right in front of your face, takes 6 hours to remove, and it only has 2 bolts. Totally sucks!!!... BTW dude, that "swivel" thingy is called a "universal joint".

    Thanks bru. Great help. Had to press on the relay switch to start the car for some time and now smoke came out of it and doesn't want to start at all. I'm used to deal with Japan cars. This is like 10X harder to do on a Cadillac. Once again thank you. At least now I know what I'm dealing with.

      Question, did you have to remove the catalytic?

      @@Ochi2000 yea. I made a video about that too. I had to break the whole nut with the bolt off the converter and replace it with new nuts and bolts due to the extreme heat

      @@Ochi2000 there’s a guy on UA-cam that did it without taking out the converter. I tried but couldn’t get it out. I would try first. You have to maneuver it at a certain angle to get it out

      @Luchianolaws.wireless  Рік тому +1

      Yea I changed it. The hardest part was drilling the new holes in converter to reattach it. Old bolts are rusted through and break when you try to take them off. I did it in a day.

  • @bluestreak2249

    That’s one of the problems of east coast they salt the roads because of the amount of snow and ice which results in rust underneath the car and yet they have no other way to deal with the snow when ice other than to destroy peoples cars… that’s our good old government
    By the way the swivel thing is called a universal joint similar to the way they call a U joint on a driveshaft

      Yea the left converter had to get pulled and I had to drill new wholes for new bolts in the converter to put it back on.
