Not really surprising I don't think. It just had more or less the cheapest sale it's ever had with 1.0 around the corner. These games like Rust and Ark and 7DtD all start seeing their population rise going in to the summer each year too.
Looking forward to Bandits, and the new storyline, some end game content.

@@herogibson well, why not. It means the inevitable death of the game. If a game stays in alpha, there will always be new content

They don't seem to be doing any updates I was waiting on and are instead redoing existing systems again
This is a fair criticism. For you id say the only thing to look forward to is its another step forward to the things you are probably looking forward to. It does seem the vast majority of this update is just tweaking or redoing existing systems though.
Edit : that is as far as pc players are concerned. Console players are finally getting their game after all this time.
For me, I played the game on ps4 back in 2017 maybe or later and left it for many years until last week. Returned and found that the 1.0 is releasing soon. I guess it is coincidence and the game is as fun as I remember it, so that is good.
I'm kind of bummed. I have enjoyed playing while it evolved. I'm not sure how much longer I'll play if it's not going to update.
Id expect the minecraft model. Major update probably once a year, some things get updated, some things get added, some things get changed or overhauled. You know.. like how they been doing all along.

Yeah, that'll be the 1.0 road to gold announcement , smart marketing really, announce the game is going full retail finished version FINALLLY after so many years, announce the retail price will be $45ish or whatever they've suggested and do a sale, it's really clever marketing actually, I'm impressed, now it's whether they can deliver on the promise, that will be the key to its ongoing success.
I mean most EA game price goes up when they finish it, pimp took more than 10 years to finish this so they had plenty of time to learn lol
Been playing since early betas. Start up a server once a year with 7-8 friends and play for 2 months. Game is stupid fun!
I think a lot of people snatched the game when it last was on discount before it's getting like what? 45 bucks for 1.0? Many just took the "last chance" to get it cheap I guess and are now actually adding to the player count.
The only game my GF will play with me. We can both do whatever we want at our own pace. I would venture to guess a lot of couples feel the same way
Happy for the console folks otherwise its just another update to me, a little sad that this is the end of an era with 7 days, it's been my number 1 survival game since release.

People bought the game for 6 dollars before the main release. Of course the numbers are jump at first. Just wait. It’s 7Days. Regardless if it’s a full release or an Alpha, it’s still 7Days and it’s still going to have all the same issues at release that is has today. The numbers are going to drop back down and drop back down rapidly.
Plus they just did a big sale last week. It took a while to convince my friends to buy too, but when they actually played they loved it.

I took a break to play some back log, that and I had just built a brand new rig and immediately ran into issues making it a brick, got it running in time for the launch, I'm excited for some actual optimization
Now I am playing it daily bloodmoon and no crafting...if not, it feels to easy

My opinion it's that A combination of factors are rising the game up. 1. It's the 1.0 2. The price down 3. The game can be played in so many ways and mods that if you get bored start a new game with a random map or star a new game mod it's so easy to have many different ways to play to roll. You know it's hard not to play it
I'm a crazie.
I use Random generated maps so I can build a large wall and base along a shore. where i then build roads and create a village or town within the walled off area.
me always ply darkness fall but i started plying vanilla 7d2d alpha 21 and its actually really fun
I lost interest in the game after they made that dumb decision to make glass jars disappear and came up with the dew collector. That and people starting over with those dumb stone tools and stone tools being in loot with quality levels. That is completely mindless. Bikes always should have been found or general loot due to how abundant they are.

Love the game but at some point we have to hold the devs accountable for their BS
Your overarching surprise at player numbers and how you project 7 days as a game that is only played by people when new content drops sirt of screams you haven't played the game for years yet.
People cycle in and out of 7 days every several months to half a year, play it intensely fir 2 or 3 weeks then cycle to other games, but always, always come back. It's the beauty of the game, delicate balance of challenging with the abity to give jump scares despite the simple graphics but as a whole, always an enjoyable experience.

Lots of negative babies in the comments I see. 7DtD since alpha17 has been and still is, not only the greatest zombie game on PC, but the greatest GAME on PC period. And even on the next gen console as well. As for the babies, if you don't like it, don't play it. And we won't miss you Felicia.😂
