I could never "get" Scriabin until I discovered the Third Sonata. It manages to be lush yet precise; dreamy, yet lucid. The closing statement of the first movement at 5:28 is one of the most stunningly satisfying moments I've ever encountered, and Trifonov seems so at home with this performance.

Fell in love with Scriabin after hearing this, the 4th, and his epic Fantasy. Guy was on another level in some ways. Great preformance as always from Trifonov.

Daniil Trifonov's ethereal performance is now my favorite of Scriabin's Third Piano Sonata. I performed it in public 20 years ago and this has inspired me to take it up again, Scriabin reputedly thought his Third Sonata the absolute masterpiece of his earlier sonatas, on balance I thoroughly agree.

Trifonov is, as always, amazing. What I don’t get is why UA-cam inserts their loudest, most obnoxious commercials in the middle of such beautiful, emotional playing. As a performer, one of the most important aspects of playing is to maintain the “line,” that live spirit of the music that is concocted from the notes and time to hold the audience in a state of thrall such that the line is never broken, and the audience’s attention never wavers (unless someone simply doesn’t wish to follow the music). Making this happen is almost magic, and performers like Trifonov are masterful at pulling it off. But to interrupt a performance in mid-phrase destroys this line, rendering the accumulated and carefully planned momentum almost moot. Can’t UA-cam maintain at least enough control to place the ads between movements? Even that’s not ideal, but it’s so much better than breaking the line of individual movements and phrases.
This is the Olympics of pianism, and as such it constitutes some of the most extreme physical conditioning and control in some of the most incredible of human experience. In other words, this makes those other Olympics look like warm-up exercises that pale in the face of this kind of artistry, ability and agility. This is the very human condition put on display, a live rendering of the psyche of one of history’s most superb geniuses, and as such it deserves to be treated with special care to keep the performance intact, not broken up by irresponsibly placed ads. While I appreciate that UA-cam brings these recordings into our homes, I condemn them for doing it so badly. It’s just not that hard to do it right, as the most talented people in the human race most certainly deserve.
Please, UA-cam, we know you’ve got to pay to keep the data streaming, but respect what you’re streaming!
    Stop interrupting in mid-phrase!
    Place the ads between movements!

YT screwed themselves by allowing everyone to upload 10 hr long extended versions of musics, when the loop function would have sufficed.
It only encourages dubious measures to counteract their stupid principles regarding ads. Jailbreak is one such method.

With playing so sexy, this video should be rated R...! He gets every nuance of this gorgeous, tender, tempestuous music. Such mastery is almost beyond criticism, I think, and the note counters and mistake annotators should perhaps just continue with their accounting jobs? Maybe? Because you see, fortunately, the music happens *in between* the notes...
Just think, Scriabin wanted to transform mankind through the power of music... do you think it could be possible?

I always enjoy hearing another excellent pianist's own interpretation of a Scriabin piece I'm familiar with. This one is very impressive. I wonder how he might have changed his approach in the eleven years since this performance. That would be interesting, too.

great music is never by definition'surpassed' but open to myriad vision of the gifted!

Such surpassing occurs unabated. But that all slinks into the shadows of mere surplusage in the face of the hearing. The listening. The absorption in the gossamer times when such strains as these thrum across our temporal membranes.

It should be illegal to play so unrhythmically and hands not together.

Why are his nails so long?? and why can he play amazingly with the long nails? I have never seen a pianist with so long nails.

Fantastic playing, but what are you playing? The music has no body or direction and the ending is blunt. I like some of Scriabin music like Opus 12 No. 8, but too many composers sound like let's try a little of this and a little this and maybe some of this, and try to put them together. The quiet parts get too quiet and most of them do it. Why? Is that so I can take a nap. To me, this one is boring and has no real melody. One other thing, just because if something is super hard to play, doesn't mean it sounds good. Thank you for your patience for reading this.

Thankfully, Trifonov is most certainly not reading this.

Philip Czaplowski I still don't care for it, and I never liked Survivor. What happen? Did your fingers get stuck on the H and A keys. Why does he look like he's in a lot of pain. Okay it could be good background music for a movie, or put me asleep music. Hey Guess what, I don't like rap either. Does everybody drive a Bentley?

Not to be that guy but it’s safe to say that you just don’t get it at this point in your classical music journey, we aren’t pretending it’s genius. You’re definitely entitled to your own opinion but I can tell you the parts that bore you are packed with brilliancies. Tastes change, maybe you’ll like it some day, just keep on listening with an open ear.
