I could never "get" Scriabin until I discovered the Third Sonata. It manages to be lush yet precise; dreamy, yet lucid. The closing statement of the first movement at 5:28 is one of the most stunningly satisfying moments I've ever encountered, and Trifonov seems so at home with this performance.
Fell in love with Scriabin after hearing this, the 4th, and his epic Fantasy. Guy was on another level in some ways. Great preformance as always from Trifonov.

Daniil Trifonov's ethereal performance is now my favorite of Scriabin's Third Piano Sonata. I performed it in public 20 years ago and this has inspired me to take it up again, Scriabin reputedly thought his Third Sonata the absolute masterpiece of his earlier sonatas, on balance I thoroughly agree.
Trifonov is, as always, amazing. What I don’t get is why UA-cam inserts their loudest, most obnoxious commercials in the middle of such beautiful, emotional playing. As a performer, one of the most important aspects of playing is to maintain the “line,” that live spirit of the music that is concocted from the notes and time to hold the audience in a state of thrall such that the line is never broken, and the audience’s attention never wavers (unless someone simply doesn’t wish to follow the music). Making this happen is almost magic, and performers like Trifonov are masterful at pulling it off. But to interrupt a performance in mid-phrase destroys this line, rendering the accumulated and carefully planned momentum almost moot. Can’t UA-cam maintain at least enough control to place the ads between movements? Even that’s not ideal, but it’s so much better than breaking the line of individual movements and phrases. This is the Olympics of pianism, and as such it constitutes some of the most extreme physical conditioning and control in some of the most incredible of human experience. In other words, this makes those other Olympics look like warm-up exercises that pale in the face of this kind of artistry, ability and agility. This is the very human condition put on display, a live rendering of the psyche of one of history’s most superb geniuses, and as such it deserves to be treated with special care to keep the performance intact, not broken up by irresponsibly placed ads. While I appreciate that UA-cam brings these recordings into our homes, I condemn them for doing it so badly. It’s just not that hard to do it right, as the most talented people in the human race most certainly deserve. Please, UA-cam, we know you’ve got to pay to keep the data streaming, but respect what you’re streaming! Stop interrupting in mid-phrase! Place the ads between movements!
