The Worst Discord Mods...

- Imagine Discord mods that think they work for Discord. Well with the recent development of Discord "security and safety" servers, Discord mods are trying to control more and more of Discord in some power hungry power trip. They ask people to report users to their server to try and protect people. However this idea is critically flawed and can result in some pretty heated drama.

Heyo gamers, obviously please don't harass these individuals. If you want to do something, tell your friends that if they need to report something, report it to Discord trust and safety. At the end of the day, these guys are trying to do something good but it just fails miserably.
With respect to ScammerAlert, be prepared for a paragraph cause these people are driving me up the wall. ScammerAlert focuses on the grey area part of Discord. Since Discord won't care if you got scammed trying to buy cheap nitro, ScammerAlert tries to be the solution. From their community of users, they claim to be the most transparent. And from the collection of our police academy of idiots, they are the most competent. However, fundamentally you are relying on the systems and staff in place to ensure your safety on the platform. With trust it takes time to build and seconds to ruin and my hypothetical example of being scammed by a staff member is trying to illustrate that point. Apparently staff have been banned before but who's to say it won't happen again. ScammerAlert is a lot like SteamRep, it's hella useful if you are in that market. But SteamRep had it's own issues despite it trying to fill a similar gap.
The Caelen fella was not a part of LOA Safety Center but was a part of SafetyTree. Not entirely important in the context of the video but I should make that clear.

this reminds me of a minecraft thing that people did to fight hackers... a plugin that checks on a database to see if a person was banned on a server that used it, if he was banned on 3 servers he wouldnt be able to join any other server, so the people that got banned (a griefing group) decided to ban the owner after they themself started hosting servers just to ban a lot of people lmao *This wont go good is what i wanna say*

@@lememz didnt think it through how it could be used todo that kind of stuff lmao
@@declan_youtube eh no, as long as different servers have different rules it's designed to fail and even if servers have to apply there's also the possibility that the mods there are abusive and you just didn't know, the only way it would "work" is with a centralized system and global rules like the one in the video, but then you would run into the same problems as those discord servers, just in minecraft, global bans handled by the community are just a bad idea in general

We've seen a concept like this tried before. There used to be a Minecraft server plugin that kept track of bans across all servers using the plugin and would ban you from all of them. And whaddya know, it got discontinued because the owner of the blacklist was abusing it to punish people for no reason and give himself immunity.

@@NoTextToSpeech lol it’s okay!
Once upon a time I actually was involved in a project such as this, almost 7 years ago now, so it's not a new idea.
I won't go into much detail but it started off as a simple automatic raid detection/prevention bot, the bot was I think in around 8 to 10 thousand servers by that point. The owner had an idea to make this sort of system where people report bad actors to a team who would investigate claims and approve or deny adding to the global banlist. I didn't get involved with that straight away and from my perspective from the beginning it was starting to show a lot of flaws, bias, corruption, or just bad management overall as you would expect from a bunch of dumb teens. I eventually just left since I didn't want to be associated with it anymore, not sure what happened to it. I remember some Discord staff member had talked with the owner before so maybe Discord was aware? However that's just speculation.
Overall is there any use for a system like this? Globally, no, plain stupid. Shared bans between sibling servers could work but that's not what they are about.
Pointless for me to even write about it but just sharing some memory.
I won’t go into much detail *still does*
But yeah as soon as it gets to “power trip people for free with no consequences” either nothing changes or instant bias
@@qrangezand still didn’t give the name of the bot. How sad

Similarly saw this kind of power house behavior with the Minecraft Physics Mod creator. In his discord server people ask if him selling the pro version of the mod is against EULA, his response to those people either make no sense or is very toxic. One funny example I can give was someone asked and the creator responded "this is not the place to talk about this" then the guy asked where can be talk about it and I promise you the creator said "idk".
Selling his mod _is_ against the EULA, and he obviously wants to keep that under wraps
imagine someone steals the mod
@@Gaming32i which is funny cause UA-camrs keep promoting his mod everytime something is updated. It’s insane.

They even have corporate-like positions thinking they have a job. I assure you, they do one quick google search on this and this is what they got. They are like Reddit mods who think that they contribute to society.
The only thing I've seen like this that makes sense is with dayz server discords- since most of their transgressions are in-game, having a conglomerate of servers that get together and put huge offenders that consistently break multiple servers rules on a list so server owners both old and new can protect their servers, is good.
that banning from an amount of servers reminds me of something people made in the past to ban people from some servers on minecraft
I have had a previous experience with mod role abuse. However it was pretty humorous and the mod team as a whole has a good laugh abt it.
Baisicly one of the newer mods was getting frustrated with how when one of the chats was muted, ppl used reactions instead… sooooo the mod said the next person to react will be muted. I will admit, I poked the bear here. I reacted with an ok symbol and thumbs up. I was muted for a grand total of 2 weeks. However I was a pretty senior member, so one of the senior mods intervened, and had a bit of a laugh. I got a temporary role that allowed me to /moot ppl, (Baisicly it gave the message for muting spelled incorrectly, and had an “appeal” link, that was just a rickroll, it also pretty clearly stated it wasn’t a real mute, but it was still pretty funny)
i do like the concept of these servers (As in, a server to get offenders banned on all servers with their bot after you reported them to discord cause let's be honest, they'll prob get it done faster then discord notices your reports and offically bans them)
however....where it falls apart is the fact discord users are rule-ing it
....who powertrip SO HARD for no reason whatsoever
and ofcourse, are currupt, bias, and are hypocritical as hell
assuming you don't actually just contact those servers without contacting discord themselves first
The concept is flawed, just like in real life police authorities. It's better to do it the official way with discord T&S, tho it might be slower in response, they will surely get the job done right.

until a lot of people get banned from all their favorite servers for some small mistake, and the "mods" sell them unbans
You'd think so but this isn't a new thing in the Internet and it *never* works.
It always fails in the same point of failure too. Power abuse and subjective recontextualizing.
You gen z lot are just discovering the same mistakes we millenials made a decade and a half ago lol
@@thirddrone hopefully those people get their accounts terminated
yeah you can say so, but then comes the obvious question we got from the video. Who is qualified to have this power? Is an authoritarian solution really a good idea?
You can say like "aaa we need someone who aren't idiots", but realistically, the only thing that will come out of this is just more power tripping and corruption. It's okay if the only thing that happens is alerting the server of a scam and banning the scammer. The negatives happens when they not only get banned from one server, but get banned from a lot of servers that are connected to this type of network. If a 15 year old kid has all this power, it won't be positive for anybody, and mistakes will happen. This concept in of it self is kinda brainless anyway.
I think its a good idea if it is on the right hands, and if it is not for small mistakes. Things that are big enough to affect others negativily, could fall under that temporary solution.
But, as this is under people that are not profesionals nor under some kind of contract, it would be easy to fall into bad hands even when it was on good hands

Those dudes think they're above everything kinda sad tbh.
u mean being above theyr mom basement💀
it would be a shame if scammers got mass raided on their server, its not like theres tools out there to do so and the servers are public
wat
how to solve this in three steps:
Step one: create a discord server with the bot in it
Step two: Ban the server owners on your own server
Step three: enjoy the chaos
btw people can't be banned from their own servers
But this should make it impossible to join servers where they have lower perms than there own bot
ultimate trolling
This is annoying
I'm an EO on a moderation training based server, and clearly, those people don't encourage correct moderation, they only encourage hatred toward mods that actually do a good job, which is annoying
I think it's a good idea for types of servers that have their own general sets of rules that don't violate tos.
For instance, if you and a community of servers for a specific type of game and don't want people who like grief, or do bad behavior only in game then a ban list like this would also be good.
Or, if you and a community of servers intended to be a safe space for minority groups (like kids, LGBTQ+, people of color, disabled) and want stricter moderating on hate speech than what discord does, you could also do something like this.
The problem always becomes a lack of oversight and accountability, also the flagrant GDPR violations, Due process issues, and issue where this has repeatedly publicly gone horrible wrong in the past

I used to be doing something similar to this back in the good old days of Roblox, anti exploit groups, ah yes. We would have modules and work with game owners to moderate their games remotely we had one of those ban list thingys too as well as a bunch of tools to help with fixing and detecting exploits, glad to see this sort of field hasn't died
the difference is roblox anticheat is practically nonexistent unless you get reported by a dozen people
Tecnically it has died, since it involves a lot of corruption now lol
mostly there is no way to patch exploting only roblox can do that

@@Develop3 What he's talking about are Global Anti-exploit modules. Basically, they're scripts designed for a specific game to detect exploiters. For example, if one game didn't allow flying, you could detect players flying. These modules would be tailored specifically for the game they're protecting. Then if an exploiter was detected, it would add them to a Global ban list where any game with modules created by this anti-exploit group would ban the exploiter.
I actually know a server that had a system like this but way worse. Not worse as in more corruption just, they were so so bad at it. The best part was it wasn’t even a security server from the foundation it’s a fricking roblox group called team cyclone. I remember before I left they made a fricking court room where they started investigating and trying people who broke the rules of their server and any server they could get their hands on. I talked to a mod of one of the other servers that got invaded by this court system and they were not pleased. It was a beautiful chaotic disaster that is still unfolding to this day.
Sadly reporting to discord does next to nothing. Especially when it comes to servers breaking TOS
I don't know about server reports, but I've reported many users (generally scammers) to Discord support via support report tickets, and nearly all of them have shown as deleted accounts around 30 days after discord support got back to me. So it does seem to generally work for me 🤷♂️
I reported a person who attempted to illegally obtain my IP address and Discord did absolutely nothing. They even took a month to reply when I initially sent the report.
6:20 Nitro can be bought even from those who sell it, the main thing is to take into account whether they bought it from SOMEONE ELSE's card? If yes, the nitro will be returned (gift).

It wouldn’t be awful if there were actual checks and balances to the system and not just discord admins deciding your fate. That’s probably why it’s barely got a few servers it works with.
When Discord got rid of the trust and safety support category, and you went back to this video.
i took a shot every time you said "basically" and now i can't feel my

Pretty sure Discord doesn't care about scammers. Especially for things against ToS like buying servers, you would risk losing your account to report a scammer. Btw ScammerAlert saved me from getting scammed one time because I opened a ticket and reported someone and they decided to change their mind. Being in the server without having a scammer role is kind of like a status thing. Ofc there isn't any feature like this in Discord. There's no scammer badge. They either wouldn't ban them or they'd just ban again and they'd probably make a new account
nice ad, sure lol
It's not I'm not even in that server because I don't really buy stuff on discord anymore
HAHAH Thank you so much for this video, I know the owner of LOA Safety Center and its the worst system erver.
You should 100% join the call of war community and look at the power trip servers. I got mass banned from the largest security server over helping a guy get mod and then that guy raided the server. (Which i didnt know he was gonna do) whilst a guy who was raiding non stop is now seen as “reformed” (he only stopped raiding like a month ago) and he is now in the top ranks of the security server
I was in a discord server with a power-tripping mod once. They ENDED a minecraft server and caused the connected discord server to go abandoned over something small.

Trust & Safety is an ethical conflict used to advertise your willingness to breach contract.
I think this is the one channel where I do not want my server to be in haha, I feel like having your server here would be when you did something ridiculously dumb.
Wait, so basically all of those were small-to-medium-sized servers anyway. I guess it makes sense, Discord would notice if it was that large of a group, but that level of self-importance can only happen if you aren't actually that important.
Oh i was part of Lead Of Advertising before since i also partnered them before but i stopped since theres allot of Chaos happening in that server
if i remember for my bots i was able to get them verified at around 70 servers so the LOA bot must be in around 30-50 servers
Up until the very start of this year, i was a sole mod in a server of about a thousand lurkers and maybe up to 10 active members... ive never banned anyone for badmouthing me: in fact i tended to correct and escalate. Call me fat and smelly? Id tell you I'm actually skinny and smelly.
After almost four years of service i resigned, feeling i was no longer needed, a relic of a bygone era
I'm banned off all of those servers not because I broke ToS, because I helped my friend copy another Discord server that he was the original owner of. He was forced to giveaway ownership, and asked me if I wanted to help him recreate his server that he owned, and I said I would, but it seems like the new owners of the server he was forced to giveaway wasn't very happy with me, and him for doing that, so they reported me, and him to those safety servers, and got me banned. I find this really stupid, and just acts of child play. Just because I copied/recreated a server that was his.
Make a new account with a new identity.
The owner of that stupid loa server is actually here in the comments
Honestly any server dumb enough to have them probably isn't worth your time.
As one of the network staff i would like to say we do report to discord, and no we do not claim that we are discord staff.
I used to be in this community for these type of things. There used to be the only one named VPro. This has been around for years on years and I’m surprised how this has not been brought to light until now. Most of these communities for reporting these members to these discord’s are attempt to get the persons money back. If they’re scammers, they will not get their money back most likely but there is always a chance. If a person wants to get unbanned, then they need to pay the person they scammed. But I do agree as this is showing how power trippy these new “fraudsters” have now a days. Again, thank you for bringing this to light since I used to be apart of the “scammer alert” community and it’s just corruption ❤
Wait.... you weren't talking about geb and your old admins?
I remember a friend of mine got his server and himself banned because his server's role structure was inspired by the one LOA uses.
15-year-olds shouldn't run stuff like this.
The worst ones for me are the ones who don't give a warning for using the n-word ending with "a" and ban you as their server is run by a company.
5:32 lmaoooo that caught me off guard
The only good thing I see with those servers is making people aware of harmful scams, but a lot of of them aren’t great
This reminds me of the battlefield 4 database thing. You get reported and banned on there, you get banned on every server using BF4DB, which 99% of servers used.
I've dealt with one of these stereotypical mods before, and I only joined the sever because my friend got banned and I wanted to know why.
I was in a server called WASP and they do the same thing. Yet they abused power and banned people who expose them.
I was in it xD
YOu are right. They just waste time from others. I mean Discord Trust and safty was made for stopping those against tos not blocking from some servers.
do u really think reporting the scammers to the discord trust and safety helps???
Yep… I actually have rules against this, although I refer to it as ‘Admin Abuse’, but it’s still the same thing
Admin Power Trips/Abuse of Power
It will lead to either a warning, demotion, kick or ban depending on how bad it is
Aren't mass ban databases breaking Discord TOS?
I swear you where not allowed to have a bot ban a user from multiple other servers using a bot and a database that keeps all the banned users in it?
TIL that there was a legit network of servers who try and fail to police discord via a bot with ban perms etc
I used to be in these servers I owned an ad server with like 10k members they would ban people most of the time without much proper checks and a lot of biases I got banned later on when I left a server I was staff in just realised my server is still part of the “LOA Network”
I always thought they were stupid. I’m glad someone else agrees.

We definitely weren't power tripping just wanted to help out server owners (mainly the lgbtq, furry or otherwise targeted ones)
But the shit we got to see.
I mean obviously the first advice was always explain how to report to discord and making sure they done that.
But very soon we got alot of reports of cp and otherwise disgusting servers that we'd effectively take down within 30min thanks to discord reacting quickly with these things
And it was draining. They all are in a telegram group so it's like an unwinnable game of whack a mole.
Saw some fun sides of discord too and obv alot of drama reports where people were just exaggerating but we were mainly focused on spam and the serious stuff.
Also alot of people that came to us for advice on how to make their server more secure or how to report to discord properly
It's all down to management tho. It's easy to feel all high and mighty so we had clear rules on how to do everything and what is needed for us to report it and all that just to make sure we don't turn into drama and everything stays as respectful and unbiased as possible
Had to quit tho.
Not cut out to see the mentioned servers and know even if we get them banned immediately, they will just make another one.

Tbh, these discord servers are probably better then discord when it comes to reporting idsues
I'm the managing director for SafetyHub, and it's not all that bad that these safety servers exist! Maybe it's not serious enough to report to discord, but you still want to bring it up with someone, so these servers are a good alternative, and they are not all corrupt. SafteyHubs staff team is definitely a good example of that. Now of course we aren't perfect, but we are unlike other safety servers.

I had a bot that did this and was actually my first verified bot. The idea was not to ban users that break TOS or personal rules for your own server that don't apply to other servers. The idea was to prevent spam bots from joining your server (you know the ones that have the same name/pfp and go around your server advertising "FREE NITRO!!!"). Those bots would be auto detected, tested for human verification, and THEN banned. Only bot spam accounts were banned; human suspects are for you to handle yourself. We had a quick ban appeal too just in case something went wrong. But THIS... this is just going too far...
The worst ones take it too seriously and don’t know how to have fun nor take a joke.

Probably not. It is easy to get a dishonest bot verified on discord. I just think no-one's stupid enough to add this bot
