The 35 GM is my 6th GM and easily my most used and favorite. The 135 and 70-200 ii are equally amazing but the close focusing on the 35 really changes how a 35mm focal length can deliver. If you’re a wide to normal lens fan, you’ll be amazed at this jewel

It's really hard for me to spend the kind of money it takes to get a lens of this calibre, but I took the leap. I'm happy that I did. I totally agree with you - It's a world-beater. It's a joy to use and it's results are uniformly amazing. It is amazing at f stops from 1.4 to 11. It has nice sun stars. It close focuses, which is nice but can also leverage that fast aperture. It has almost no distortions. The bokeh is awesome. I've noted that at the widest apertures there is some vignetting which is really nice too. Desert island lens.

    Hi Majic.
Thanks for the report on the 35 1.4 GM. I purchased this lens too and it permanently lives on one A7IV body. I love it!
Your video was also an eye opener for me, regarding something I've been struggling with for a while.
At 4:26 your vid shows the camera viewfinder info. It dawned on me that you are shooting Aperture Priority, Auto ISO, min shutter 1/250 (and you gave the exp compensation a + 1/3 kick as you are shooting into the sun).
I am new to weddings and I struggle to change my settings quickly when moving from inside a venue to outside. eg. when the couple exit a church after the ceremony. I can't seem change the ISO fast enough so not to miss a moment, but the Auto ISO might be the answer.
I don't know if you have covered this already, but a vid on shooting in this manner might be popular? Explaining your setting parameters and why?
Thanks mate, keep up the great work! 💯

I got my 35mm almost a year ago and I still love it. 30% of the time, I used this lens interchangeably with 55mm (but now upgraded to 50mm F1.2) but more than 50% I used the 24mm F2.8 G as most of our activities require climbing up ladders for project installations. I was just not comfortable bringing heavy glasses. But for dinners and other programs at school, I am very happy with 35mm.

Great video! 👏 I had this lens for a year and took some of my favorite photos with it. Sold it because of the focus breathing, which is still apparent with the breathing compensation. But recently found a new one on such a great deal and had to buy it again, this time I don't think I will be letting go of it even though I love my 24mm 1.4 GM too!

I absolutely love this lens! There is something really special about how it renders images. The only small gripe with it is the focus breathing. It breathes so much that I feel like it’s not a real 35mm. Maybe more of a 35mm to 40mm or 30mm to 35mm, who knows. Perhaps not a problem but I’d like to shoot 35mm on a 35mm lens

I want a 28mm GM lens to be made. I have 50mm f/1.4 GM and, for me, 35mm is too close to 50mm for it to make sense (I'm not a pro) to have both. A 28mm would give me a nice wide look without causing too much distortion for waist level portraits and even, a bit closer.

@@alexbucklandphoto It is a great lens, I'm sure of it, but I think it's a bit too specialized. I'll probably get a 28 f/2. I like the 50mm focal length, but I want something that would be better for indoor stuff when a 50mm is just too tight and you don't have room to step back. Then again, maybe the 35mm f1.4 Sony or Sigma would be good for indoors shots. Idk. Maybe I'll rent each lens for a week or two at a time and see what I find more comfortable/useful.

Sony 35mm f/1.4 is the lens that made me stop completely from buying other brands than Sony (after trying it, you realize how many problems the other brands have). The new recent Sony GM lenses from the last 3 years are simply perfect ! The complete rendering (colors, sharpness, bokeh) is amazing. I tried other lenses that I was interested about and they all went back to the shop… So be careful, you’ll become picky 😅 (and poor, but very happy ^^)

I used to have the FE 35/1.8 when I came to Sony, but I was really looking at the GMaster that I'd like to get it someday. I had a chance to try it at some workshops and really liked what it can do. I've never really loved the 35/1.8 because I love to shoot a lot in backlit situations and it was the weakest part of the lens. Otherwise it was very reliable and also very affordable and lightweight. But this year I bought the GMaster and I use it pretty much all the time. It's very predictable and 100 % reliable in all circumstances. And also, I really love to use the aperture ring 😁

Only downside: the rubber gasket got shredded after about half a year, don’t know how. service told me it would take 4-6 weeks to repair (it’s 4 screws lol) so I’m still holding on and will do in the off season.
Only comparison I have is the Samyang (rokinon) 35 1.4. v1 was okay, not as sharp and fast as the GM but decent for the price (300-400€). V2 was horrible and made my a7iv crash that I had to take the battery out so that one went straight back to Amazon

@@user-nk1lm1cl1t thanks for the answer. Do the 1.8 lenses color match within their range?

Use my 35 1.4 GM as my walkabout lens. Nothing to come close. Had the sigma equivalent 35mm and whilst a good lens it won’t ever be as good as the Sony GM. Sharp throughout the frame and great colour rendering. Samyang was a no go for me as the last one I owned dropped to pieces.
The Sony Zeiss 35mm is poor by comparison.

Currently got the 85 GM and was looking to pair it with either the 35 GM or 24 GM. Sometimes the 85 GM feels too long.
Guess 85+35 or 50+24 would be a great combo. Cannot decide which to go for 😅

I'd get the 85, 35, 20G and never look back.

    Shall I buy 35 mm f 1.4 gm or 16-35 mm f/2.8 gm?

      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  5 місяців тому

Hey! 35/1.4 is going to get you image that you won’t be able to get with 16-35/2.8. Shallow depth of field on that wide angle look. So it does depend on - are you after the look of the image or are you after the range of zoom 16-35.

The 35GM has QC problems. Me and many whom I know have already been welcomed with decentered samples.

This is funny to see a "review" of a 35mm f/1.4 lens [today.] Nikon had this type of lens over 60 years ago. Canon had one also about the same time.

Have you ever used a Olympus M43 or something that to weddings? I guess not, but could you try once to do that and share a opinion? And actually what would be your statement on that with their f1.2 primes? :D

Which lense are you filming with? I see some dirty bokeh (like the balls (that's what she said) have weird dirty on them. Example at 1:48.

I have no problems what so ever owning and using Lenses of different brands, I own and use Sony GM Lenses, Zeiss Lozia, Zeiss Batis, Sony Zeiss and Voigtländer APO-Lanthar Lenses. I will not get the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM because I am tired of bulky Lenses and I do not need autofocus and I do not need aperture 1.4, so I use the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 which is built like a tank and it have outstanding optical image quality, I can very highly recommend Voigtländer APO-Lanthar Lenses.

I left the Sony system for the Canon R system. I am still missing the Sony FE 35 GM. It is a shame that after 5 years into the R system, Canon still does not have a respectable 35mm lens.

I used 35mm gm and compared it with sigma 35mm dg dn. Sigma won. On Same distance 1.4 aperture Sigma show more depth of field than Sony.

Sony cameras are not in my circle of interest since I don't like their ergonomics. The 35mm I'm waiting for is Nikon 35/1.2s 😀 My experience with presets is they do not do magic 🙃 You have really good images to start with so the post processing is like topping the cake with a cherry.
