    I avoided buying any lenses for over a year - that changes as soon as this bad boy is released. This one is a game changer and a must own for me. 35mm is the PERFECT walkaround focal length, and Sony figured out a way to give us a lens that isn't a brick for daily use. Great review.

      @@dikasochirin4116 sure! the main problem I’ve noticed is the weather sealing isn’t the best, mine has collected quite a bit of dust in it compared to my other lenses, nothing that would ruin image quality but it bothers me when I glance into it. Also, it’s quite disproportionate for a mirrorless, a very large 50mm indeed. Lastly, the autofocus is quite loud, and it has a smooth metallic texture that is much less scratch resistant than the textured metal of G-masters. All nit-picks, other than that it has the best image quality I’ve seen from a prime other than the 135 g-master.

    • @pablovi77
      @pablovi77 3 роки тому

      It’s a one stop difference, so double the light. I don’t think you’ll use this lens for fiction or commercials, but it is unusable for anything like that, every time you focus the frame zooms, it’s called breathing, and it’s the worst I’ve seen from any lens.

    • @LtDeadeye
      @LtDeadeye 3 роки тому +4

      Traditionally, for stills, both 24 and 35 would favor the environment as it tells a story about where the subject is. 50mm is more of a balanced emphasis (neither here nor there yet it is the most versatile prime focal length. 85 and greater is more about who the subject is rather than where the subject is.
      Popular prime lens kits usually include either a combination of 24, 50 and 135 or 35 and 85.

    May I ask your opinion? First off, that auto focus is looking great! Do you think this is the right lens for me? Here’s my story.
    My videos are product reviews hands-on and close up. I want my shots as clear and crispy has possible with no blur except the background. Current problem: I’m using iPhone 13 Pro Max and it likes to be blurry. I guess because of the f1.5 or who knows what else. No matter the distance I hold my object, the camera seems to only want to focus on one aspect of the product. The buttons. The triggers. The handle. It…can’t just do all of it. Or when I get a good shot, it loses focus quick. So i spend way too much time on the recording process. Doing take after take trying to get it all in focus. This adds a lot of time to the editing process too because I have to sift through all of that.
    So that’s what has me looking at a big boy camera! Not to mention, I have been wanting to upgrade my quality and this seems like a way to kill two birds with one stone.
    So, with very limited knowledge, but learning quite a bit in the past few weeks, I have been looking into getting probably a Sony A7C. And a good lens. This way I can use it for the videos and the live streaming and also maybe take it to family functions on the holidays.
    So. I’ve spent the past few weeks narrowing it down and being set on the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM. But thankfully, I didn’t make the purchase because that might not be the best decision. See I was looking into 24mm because Google said iPhone 13 PM was 26mm equivalent. It wasn’t until today taking selfies in the mirror with my new lack of facial hair, that I once again realized that what you see in videos, looks more like real life, whereas photos on the iPhone kind of distort your proportions or something. So I flipped back-and-forth between the camera and the video until once again realizing, the video crops in on the camera! So I had it wrong this whole time!? I was wondering, because when I was looking at some of this wide 24mm footage, I was looking at it, worried that it would distort my images.
    That said, do you think 35mm would be closer to what iPhone videos are? 16:9 I think? I really like the field of view of my current videos I think. And my objects never get distorted, even if I hold them close to the camera.
    Is this the best lens to get for my type of content? I need good autofocus that will keep all of my product in view so I don’t have to constantly change focus or settings. And I need something that lets me get close to the object. Macro would be dope but not required. If you look at my video you can get an idea. I’m actually wondering now if 35mm 1.8 would be a better fit for me, allowing me to get closer. I won’t lie, those sample close-up shots of the figurine. Did not look very promising. That’s the type of shot. I hate. Only a part of the toy is In focus. Then, again, if I shoot 4K, which I have never done, I can always just crop in with editing, and I think we would be OK. I even do that now, but you lose a little bit of resolution.
    Would you say I’m on the right track for getting a solution for myself? I think it will be nice in general just not having a fixed aperture but maybe that’s not what the problem is to begin with. But maybe! Thankfully, my set up and continent is pretty consistent. So I think once I dial in the settings, I don’t have to change anything. Just keep my set up the way it is and press record.

      Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give! I want these features, but at the same time I want the best shot I can get. That’s why I’m spending money and going with Sony. If the other lens is a downgrade since it’s not G Master, idk if it’s a good decision.

    I’m a 28mm fan and loooooooooove the Sigma Art 28mm f/1.4 on my Nikon d850. It has heavy vignette and I believe that is what I like about it . With 28mm I shoot in the central part of the frame. Use leading lines a lot.
    I just got this 35 and the fe 24mm gm . Loving them both. Also looking at the 135 gm or the Sigma Art 135 . Probably stick with Gmasters even though I’ve liked the image from the Sigma 35 f/1.2 Art and the Sugma Art 135 f/1.8 . The size has a lot to do with it and close focusing on both focal lengths too .

    Good review but why everyone now slander Zeiss 35. I think it is still very good lens with specific character. Chromatic aberrations can easy repair in LR and can only be seen at 100% zoom. Today you can buy it used for around 800 Euro.

      Back when I was a school photographer, we were using 24-105 and I noticed after many hundred of shoots that I usually zoom in to 35mm instead of 24mm without being aware of it. I think 24mm just looks a bit awkward for me 🤷‍♀️

    • @mustolinii8574
      @mustolinii8574 2 роки тому +3

      Not the same. When shooting at 24mm the camera becomes distorted since 24mm is wide-angle. 35mm is perfect because the sensor is also around 35mm

      I have a 24mm GM, & 50mm G, and have a hard time justifying a 35mm GM. If I got it, the 35mm would be the neglected middle lens for me. From 24mm, on my A74 I can use the APSC crop in mode to give me a 35 (36)mm focal length, albeit with a reduced mega pixel count when shooting photos, but no reduction at all for video. If I did have 35mm and did the similar APSC punch in I’d get 50(52.5) mm, which I already have a prime for. Having the APSC punch in ability is handy to give me 35 mm for my 24mm GM, but I can’t see myself reaching for the narrower 35 as a go to for street or landscape. Also, 35mm is no good for taking selfies or walking and taking vlogging with the camera pointed at yourself, whereas 24mm is good for this. Hard to justify the addition.

    In theory, the Sony 35/1.8 makes a lot more sense, especially for hybrid shooters. However, I just don't like this lens. It is optically really good, but I like neither the straight form factor nor that you don't get a proper mount weather sealing for more than 700€. That's just not okay. Close-up IQ is quite a lot better on the GM, too.
    Plus, if you are user of a 7R body you get picky because most lenses can't really make use of these high resolution sensors. If you have a good zoom (in my case Tamron 28-75 G2) and you try any cheaper prime lens on your 7R series body, you are quite critical because you expect a prime to deliver better or at least on par results with a zoom lens.
    If I wanted to save money on 35s, I would go with Tamron's rather slow f/2.8 because it focuses very close at 14 cm and has really great IQ, however as soon as you also do video or have a high resolution body, it makes no sense to make experiments all the time. Put this G-Master on it and the discussion is closed.
