Honestly the most inspiring part of this entire video (besides the great photos!) is the fact that you handle entire wedding days with just 1 prime lens. I would've always gone with zooms just out of fear of missing a shot...this really makes me want to try shooting primes only!
I had another camera with an 85 also I didn’t just use one camera. Probably 90% one camera one lens. But yeah. Thanks :)
Thanks for the video, really insightful. I’ve been using my a7iii and the 35mm1.4 since the beginning of spring last year and it’s such an amazing combination for weddings. I definitely feel like I could shoot a whole wedding just using that combination! … you’ve made me want to try out the a7iv now👌🏾
I wanted a cheap easy to travel with camera and lense and decided for the Sony A7 IV AND THE 35 MM 1.4 GM. Looking forward to shooting our trip to Tasmania.
Cheap 😅
@@dan.knows.photography
My fave lens! Use it for weddings, portraits, events, all sorts! Looking forward to upgrading to the A7IV this year. Thanks Chris.
The photo of the bride in between the two large trees has got to be one of the most beautiful photo I’ve seen. I can only hope I’ll get a fraction as good as you!
Great video! Stoked to see you working on the 35. Incredible pics. Nice to see how you get on with the focal change from the 24. A7iv is honestly a huge upgrade to the A7iii and it has me way more excited to use the camera, all the little details and speed / responsiveness. Cheers!
can't help but get distracted by the BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS you've captured!! thank you for sharing, enjoyed seeing the lovely nature of NZ!! it gives such a magical, mystical feel to the wedding photos.
Look who’s back! Great video! Always love seeing your unique compositions too
Thanks bro
Welcome back, Chris! I've been loving the presets! What's this surprise?! 😄
COLORS AND SHARPNESS, WONDERFUL!
CONGRATULATIONS, CHRIS
yes! the format was incredibly quick!
I love how you show your photos while talking to the camera, also the information that you are giving out about gears are amazing and very informative.
Thanks Mark
This came at the right time.. I’m just getting started and I have this exact same combo and have been having decision paralysis tryna figure out what lenses to get to be a hybrid shooter and develop my own style
The A7IV +35mm combo is 😚🤌🏽 used it on a family photoshoot and I was so happy with the results.
I’ve got same combo thinking of getting the sigma 85 1.4 Dg dn art and calling it a day.
oohhhh congrats on the A7IV! She is beastly. love the 35mm
Awesome setup man! I have the A7iv too and love it. You can also setup S&Q setup on 1 2 & 3 so you have nine custom buttons!
Oh my God, Chris, this photo at the 5:40 is ingenious!
Finally a new video from you, really appreciate it. My YT app had this dot next to your channel few das ago, to indicate that there is a new video, but there wasn't. Until now. Very interesting to see you using a 35mm instead of the 24mm that we know you for.
Hello Chris. Great to get a new video from you! I think I remember you saying you change between taking photos then to video on your camera during a wedding.
Could you talk about or maybe make a video about when and why you swap from photo to video? Maybe call it how to shoot video and stills with one camera at a wedding? Do you sometimes shoot a wedding alone and do both photo and video? Maybe this is a bit of a niche subject because other people have figured it out but for us newer to weddings it might be really helpful. When I want to find out something I always check your channel first. It took me a while to find your channel so I think you could still get a lot more subscribers in the future.
Thanks chris! So glad you’re back! Looking forward to your a7iv camera settings video!
Glad to have you back posting videos! I love your style
Man finding your channel is like finding a new Netflix series, time to binge!
glad to see you back! the 35 GM is really making me want to list my 35 1.8 sony, but I just can't justify it right now. Looking forward to your upcoming vids and also the new preset additions.
Awesome to see you back on these videos!! Looking forward to seeing more videos about wedding shoots.
How you feeling about the CJ Mccollum trade?
A7iv and the 35 1.4 GM, what a nice combo indeed!
Just to say, I love the presets. Use them all the time now. 👍
Glad you’re back Chris! I missed watching your videos and seeing your beautiful photos from New Zealand. I totally agree with you about the 24 vs 35mm. Can’t believe 11mm would make such a huge difference. I had to readjust everything after I switched. But so far loving my a7iv and 35mm. Just missing the dramatic wide look of the 24mm. Sony should make a 24-35 f1.4 zoom 😂 Can’t wait to see your setup video. Cheers
Glad to have you back!!! You look great! Another amazing video! Thank you!
Great to have you back mate. We got the A7iv as soon as it came our here in the UK. Shot two weddings so far and love it, especially as a hybrid shooter. I'm resisting the urge to get the 35mm 1.4, still have the 1.8, but I will probably give in later this year.
As always I love the way you present your story! Would you mind making a video about how to set up and work with both video an photo as a hybrid wedding photographer? I do wedding photography, but need a little push to get into the video game. Thanks
A minimal portland trailblazers hat?? nice work, my dude.
Good to see you back Chris! I managed to pickup a couple of A7IVs, and about to shoot my first wedding of 2022 with them. I agree about the screen, I shoot from the hip a lot too, and its taking some getting used to. This year I am aiming to be much more of a hybrid shooter at weddings, so eager to see your take on that. Cheers.
Can't wait for the rumored 85mm GM f1,2
I love the Portland hat, my home city. Great video like always.
I have the same combo (Sony A7IV + 35mm 1.4 GM) but my pictures are nowhere as sharp as yours. What am I doing wrong? Did you have any kind of a filter on your lens? Please make a video of your workflow, starting to end. It will be very helpful. Thank you.
You should do a video about how you edit your photos!! I love your look.
Very very nice photos! Congrats
3:58 Formatting speed is different because the a7iv "quick format" isn't wiping the entire card. It's just marking the directory as free space. This also means file recovery is possible with the a7iv "quick format". Traditional Sony camera card-formatting removes any possibility of file recovery.
Check again. I did both
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer OK
Hey Chris thanks for your videos they’re great! And you’re an amazing photographer. I’m really considering this combo myself, however I would like to see a video with the breathing compensation on with the 35 gm just to see how much does it correct it. Thank you!
Thanks for the video Chris!
Welcome back Chris! Looking more fit.
Thanks mate, 16kg's lost haha
2:00 - this photo blews my mind 😀
Using iPhone screen to make reflection
Great to see you back Chris! And you look like you’ve been working out?? Look a lot slimmer than I remember you 😅
Haha yeah man. Racing downhill mountain bikes and lost 16kg
Have a A/IV myself, tried with 35mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 90mm f2.8 and there are definitely focus-issues. The camera is not permanently front- or back focusing, but even with Eye-AF and AF-C, the selection-algorithm fails. As soon as there are strong (often vertical) contrast areas, or lines the AF prefers to focus on those parts in the frame even with the green focus frame clearly being on the eye. So, the camera is dead sharp, but it "internally" selects wrong parts for adjusting rather than the one in the focus frame. Took some selfies on a tripod, focus clearly on the eye, but often "real internal" focus was on the the black and white hairs of my beard, sometimes back focusing, sometimes front focusing. Hairs distract the camera, but also gray lines on buildings, or vertical borders of doors or windows. It's clearly a flaw in the internal focus selection logic. Had lots of portraits with different very good lenses with slightly blurry eyes but only with this camera (others work fine with same lenses). Hope they come up with a firmware upgrade soon
How come you have 35 1.4 and 55 1.8? Isn’t both almost the same focal length? I have the 55 1.8 but want to upgrade it to 35 1.4 instead. How are you using your lenses?
Hey Chris, you look 10 years younger and in great shape! I thought I just haven't seen your videos in awhile lol.
That one beard hair drove me crazy :D. Nice Beard and awesome video.
Hey Chris I just found your channel and I love it! I got the Sony A7RV and I'm trying to pick the 24mm or 35mm 1.4 what would you do for a perfect combo! I`ve watching about crop mode and its good. What are your thoughts? Thank you!
Thanks Chris that was very interesting. I agree with your comment about the screen. I'm hoping Nikon put the multi-tilt screen from the Z9 into their new mid range camera.
It is yep.
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer thanks Chris - I wrote the comment early on when you mentioned the video/photo switch then realized you answered it later in the video. 👍
But isn't it impossible to take photos in video and s&q modes? Is there a work around?
I don’t use S&Q never tried it
I love my Sony A7S III...I did not realize how much faster the A7 IV is.
Thanks for the review! 😊
Awesome content as always. Loving my A7IV, and considering the 35 GM over the Sigma 1.2. Time will tell, but this video definitely helped my decision a little.
I own both, and still prefer the look of the 1.2 sigma.
Thank you so much it means a lot coming from a professional wedding photographer I bought this exact same set up. Sub
Hi man! Again amazing video🤙🏽 what is the thing you have on bottom of your camera here?
Hey man, always loving ur work! You have been a big inspiration for me. Do you think the a7iv is good for wedding videos also and can it handle the low light situations? I do mostly photography but sometimes videos too...
It’s perfect for wedding videos, the low light isn’t much worse than the A7S3, until you get to 12,800 iso
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer nice to hear that, thanks for the answer 👍🏼
Darn you and your cool photos!! After seeing your video yesterday I went to Best Buy and bought that lens 😁
Hoping to grab the A74 soon, it's out of stock everywhere in the UK, and when it is in stock it's gone within minutes 😅
Great ur back!
Hi Chris vey nice and informative video as usual. I also find the 24GM to be very good but not comparable to the 35GM, that's superb, in sharpness (actually also the sigma 14-24 @ 24mm it's just a bit sharper than the 24GM)
I'm also a wedding and event photographer and I'm currently using one A1 and one A9II as a second body... I know you also used the A9ii and I'm curious how do you compare this new A7IV with the A9II for operational-speed and AF in photos..
Thank you.
As good as the 35 GM is, I still prefer the look of the sigma 35 1.2. I own both. 1.2 just gives a special pop to the images.
@2:00 I like that. Might try that out.
nice content sir. do you think it's worth changing from A7R3 to A74? plan to do portrait and event shoots and do videos sometimes as well.
You went for the 35! Have you played around with a NiSi black mist filter on the 35 yet?
Not yet. Will do next wedding tomorrow tho
Hello Chris. I saw that in most of the photos you use the 1.4 aperture to shoot. When do you close the diaphragm? Your photos are incredibly sharp throughout the frame, regardless of the diaphragm you use. Sorry for my english.
I must know - What is that meike mount/grip?? I had the same thing for my a7iii but have struggled to find one for the new body after upgrading!
Hey Chris, great video bro! Anyway you can share the link for the mist filter you're using?
Hey bro it's just the Nisi Black mist 1/8
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Thank you! 🤍just wanted make sure I was looking at the right one
Thanks for this video, Chris. Since last year, I have been using for portrait sessions a 35 1.4 GM and 50 1.2 GM combo on two A7RIIIs--and that has worked very well, especially with families. Do you feel the investment in the A7R4 is worth it for a portrait photography?
A74 Been out stock for a looong timeee 😭
awesome review as always. what's is the grip? or bracket you are using?
Love it brother! Purchased mine but waiting for it to arrive! A month so far haha
Thanks for that review!! I just ordered my 35 1.4 gm a few days ago! I am so excited!
Some questions...
-are you still using a second lens for weddings now?
-are you also doing wedding films with the 35?
-and what camera strap do you use? :-)
Yeah I mean I still have my other lenses. I’m using the 85 more but not very much. Strap is a custom made one by my friend and yeah I’m using the 35 for video
Hi Chris, I was wondering if you could tell me how much of a crop you get when activating breathing compensation on the 35mm 1.4?
My normal setup for video is tight to the point where that crop might make the make it a no go for me.
How did you do the amazing shoot at 2:00 ? The reflexion come from the roof of a car ? But how did you get the bottom of the dress ?
What other lens do you pair it up with? Do you use a 35 with a 50 or 85?
a7iv vs a7Riv?
Great video!
I'v heard that there are issues with the eye auto focus on the a7iv. Specifically it not being as good at the a7iii and it missing the eye when there is a strand of hair in the way. Did you come across any issues like that?
How about video capabilities of this camera ? Looking to buy hybrid confuses between A7s3 and a74 ?
Great video man ! :) I got this lens paired with a7R IVA and it is hell sharp. Can u tell me how much is 7IV faster than RIV ? :)
Huge weight loss. Good work 💪
Hey Chris, if you need back up photographer down in Queenstown let me know :)
I am into wedding but I am not that good yet.
Thank you
Hello I’m new to Sony and now looking to get 35 and 85mm but I’m stuck between sigma art and Sony GM. Could you give me some input and what way you would go now?
the regular sony 35 and and 85 are bad ass and I'm happy with them for both video and photo.
Hey
If you only had a choice between the a7IV and the a7 RIV which one would you pick?
regarsd, rick
Chris , I enjoy your videos, they are to the point and also the perspective of a pro wedding photographer is great, question now that you tried the 35 GM, are you you still going to continue using your 24 gm as your main working horse?, or switching to the 35?....I have the 24+A7RIV and I can run as 24mm or run on super 35 (APSC) that gives me the 36 mm (and 2 Aperture?) , and still get 26 MP , what are the limitations you find on the 24 vs the 35 under this scenario?....thanks
I’m using the 35GM now, I still have my 24 and I’m not going to sell it. It definitely looks different to the 35mm GM even when I’m crop mode, mostly cause the depth of field is different
Chris, what do you prefer now? Shoot the whole event with 35mm, or with 24+50 combo?
I dunno atm just trying different things
does the Meike A7III grip extension fit the A7IV or is this a new one attached in the video?
Different grip. My one is off the A92
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer cool, thanks!
Hi Chris, no presets for capture one?
I’m ready to purchase my first Sony camera and was wondering if I should get the Sony A7RIII or A7IV. I do portraits and video and I’m worried if downgrading from 45 to 33 megapixel will hurt my portraits when I shoot.
A7IV’s pixel density is larger which is better in low light. It also has duel processors and way more options available. It’s not about the amount of megapixels, it’s the quality and the amount of light gathering. Go with really good glass like the 35mm 1.4 GM and the TAMRON 35-150 2-2.8 and your set!
Chris - have you experienced the Eye-AF issues that people are talking about (Sony has acknowledged it)? Do you still use the 55mm Zeiss?
Why would they not confirm it if it’s an issue? Read the comments.
I hadn’t even heard it was an issue and I’m not having the issue cause I’m not taking photos of people at minimum focus lol with the amount of people talking about it I’m sure it is an issue but again I don’t know why you’d want to take a photo of someone so close
@@TW-iu9zy I’m asking why wouldn’t they confirm it if it was happening?
I always speak the truth, if I have an issue I’d say it. Your assumption is calling every UA-camr a liar lol
Will you sell out your 24GM after using 35GM? which one you like the most and use it all times?
New body - Panasonic in da house? ;)
I Use your preset and I love it, but can you give me some advice: on the Mac screen looks beautiful, on my iPhone the colors are different. Maybe you have a suggestion. Thanks ;)
Calibrate your mac screen
How are you finding, and getting around the banding and flickering issues with LED lights on this camera?
I haven’t had an issue? That must just be on electronic shutter? Which I don’t use
Chris, did you send out your "gift" to us that use your presets? If so I missed it.... Cheers.
Thanks for sharing! I've been shooting a lot on the a7RIV with an 85 1.4 and trying to decide if I should pick up a second RIV body used or sell the RIV and swap to two A7IV's....I feel like having two identical bodies is helpful for workflow, consistency, etc...Thoughts or suggestions?
Thats what Im going to do, Im actually going to sell my A7SIII and just have 3x A7IV's
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer you prefer the A7IV over the A7RIV? Sorry haven’t been able to watch the video at work
hi, can you verify the eye af issue on the a74? where it shows that it focuses on the eye but when you zoom in post the eye lids or eye brows are in focused (front focusing)
I never even heard of this issue and haven’t noticed it but I’ll try and report
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer I had to return my first copy because of this. My second copy is much better but still will miss a locked in moving target 50% of the time. :-(
I have the 24GM and really struggling if I want to sell and get the 16-35 (been interested in vlogs too lately) or get the 35GM since I’ve never owned a 35 and everyone raves about it
Lool I have the 16-35 gm and I want to get the 35 1.4 instead. But I still need wide lense but I can’t justify having both 16-35 and also 35 prime. It is a headache! Are you getting the 16-35 just for vlogs?
I have the Tamron 35-150 and I bought the 20mm g to pair with it for wedding work. I just bought the 35GM for a run and gun lens when I don’t want to lug the Tamron around. I was thinking if I should have maybe gotten the 24GM instead of the 35 and get rid of the 20mm? Do you think the 24 GM is worth having over the 35GM or no? Thanks
How do u find the tamron? Am debating on tamron or primes.
@@dannyathanasiou1292 I love it. I would maybe only recommend 1.4 primes if you really really need low light. I like not always having to switch lenses.
Some people are talking about a close focus wide open eye AF problem with the A7iv where it front focuses slightly. Like the eyelashes are in focus even though the sensor is locked on the pupil. I think Sony have acknowledged it as an issue. I’m guessing you haven’t experienced it ?
I’ve never experienced that
@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer Cool. It’s hard to tell how prevalent it seems to be.
Just thought I'd chime in, I haven't "experienced" it in normal shooting. However I certainly can very easily reproduce the issue. Sony has also acknowledged the issue and firmware update in the works as of recently.
Not something that gets in the way for me, but absolutely needs to be addressed. I bet a lot of (if not all) people have the issue but just don't/won't notice it in normal shooting.
@@zack.fitness makes sense because it’s only close focussing wide open
I think I haven’t experienced it because I just don’t take photos like that
Hi Chris ! do you use UV filter for your lenses ?
Not usually. I have one on my 85, I think only cause I had it laying around lol
