How to repair a refrigerator which is tripping the main switch

- Is your refrigerator tripping the main switch if so Check if it's either 1. tripping the earth leakage or 2. the single pole circuit breakers for plugs
in case
A)(1) Earth leakage Tripping
It means one of the electrical components within the fridge is grounded. i.e ~ the earth wire is in contact with either the Neutral (N) or the live (L)
Check if the compressor is not grounded. SOLUTIONS for grounded compressor
a). cut the Earth cable from the wall socket and prepare to buy a new compressor because a grounded compressor won't last long.
b). simply replace it .
if the compressor (s) is not grounded then go further with your diagnosis check the control board if it's grounded
SOLUTIONS
a).Replace the control board
b).repair the broken component (s) within the control board
c). Cut the Earth to the fridge ( Not recommended but works perfect)
3.Check Naked Wires touching the board of the refrigerator
SOLUTIONS
a)use an insulating tape to rape the naked wire(s)
B) In case of a single pole circuit breakers tripping look for naked Wires touching
SOLUTIONS
a) insulate the naked wire
b) Call a professional

Thank you so much for this video. I was searching pretty much all day for a solution and had already isolated the board as the problem when I finally found your video. Now I can save myself the time and money of rushing out too get a new board. I have disconnected the earth and the fridge is working again. The loadshedding is killing our appliances. Thanks again.

Removing the earth wire will allow the compressor to start and run but the solution is a major risk of getting shocked when touching the fridge that's why the fridge is earthed to prevent shocking.

EXTRA TIP HERE but first I Found this to be very useful, well Done. Do More! TIP Just to share my experience, I had a Fridge Freezer trip out the breaker. Misleadingly it would happen immediately but sometimes it would last a minute or more before tripping, so it seemed like a compressor issue. It turned out to be an issue with the Moulded Plug that could not be opened.Two solutions. UNPLUG THE PLUG and then (1) cut the plug off, perhaps cut back a bit and rewire a new one OR (2) as it could be an issue with the cable itself, UNPLUG THE PLUG and unscrew where the lead goes into the fridge and rewire with a new cable. You could cut a cable off some broken or unneeded device, but make sure it's 3 core (wires) with an Earth (A device with a Metal exterior will be 3 core) However if you just want to do an emergency temporary test only and use 2 core just to see if this is your issue. TAKE PHOTOS and videos of where you are unscrewing etc as to have a record for when rewiring naturally make sure you are not using a reverse lens.
