You pick the yarn base and some colors for me to avoid, and I will design some yarn just for you! www.etsy.com/listing/618588327/dyepot-weekly-sponsorship-september
This so far has got to be one of my favorite dye episode of yours!! The colors scream the 80’s era (which was my teenage years) LOVE THIS😍
Thank you so much! I love how these hues came out.
This is wonderful! Love the colours and the process is fascinating! So tropical sunset!
Thank you so much!
Superb colours and saturation! The first batch is my favourite one... On a rather gray day with foul weather, here in the UK, this influx of bright neon colours is very welcome! 👍🏼
I want to play with all of these more. I plan to go for a neon rainbow even if it won't all be fluorescent!
Wow! Thats beautiful! My sister and I were talking about how to do this very thing just the other day. You got my wheels turning! Thank you so much! Love your videos
Thank you so much! This was super fun to do and I loved getting to play with some bright neon colors.
Thats right my sister, i will be trying this. All we need is Rebecca with us :)
I think this might be one of my favourite yarns you have done. Even though it’s so different from my usual taste. I love that they’re so different from what you tend to see elsewhere. I wish I could see a few finished projects with them. Well done you x
Hopefully our sponsor of this video will share the finished items!
This is one of my favorite colorways you’ve done! Beautiful work, and it was great to see how these gradients are made!
Thank you!
Genius way to do this technique! I love having the mason jars all in together- It's sooo much neater and feels easier to stay in control of the colors being exactly where you put them .The ties are another" better way " easier to grab, and hold onto than anything else I've used . it seems much easier all around. Amazing ♥️👍🏻
I'm so glad this was helpful! I get stressed when dealing with connected minis but this has worked well for my brain to manage. :D
Beautiful...thanks for sharing the "technology" of doing the minis while keeping the hank whole!
My absolute pleasure! I hadn't tried this before and it was so much easier than I thought.
I have never seen any yarn more beautiful than this!!! I'm in love!
Thank you so much, Ann! I hope to play around with this more in the future.
I love that you create some of your yarn skeins for specific people. It's awesome
It is a lot of fun to create videos with specific people in mind. I try to match up the information I get from the sponsors with the videos in my queue. Or sometimes they come with suggestions that work out with what I want to film soon.... or even ideas I'd never thought of! :D
Wow! Just wow! I didn't think I'd like it, but I love it. My favorite is the bolder colored version!
I love that one, too. :D
Just got home from work so I can actually watch this now. It was absolutely my pleasure to sponsor an episode. I also figured out to do with the different saturation hanks... linen stitch. Oh my god, the neon is gorgeous under blacklight.
YAY! Linen stitch is going to look SO AWESOME. Thank you so much for sponsoring this video.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials I am absolutely going to sponsor more once I'm able. I'll send you the link to the pictures once I've finished knitting.
this was the greatest thing i've watched in 2020....those colors are amazing! TY for this!
Awe, thank you so much! It is my pleasure to play with color and share my adventures.
Oh. My. Goodness!! I love these neons! So pretty!!!
I need to do more with neons!
I think that a tiny amount (maybe 2.5 ml of your diluted stock) added to the two end colors (pink into the yellow, yellow into the pink) would provide a more harmonious gradient. Right now the two ends are very sharply delineated from the three in the middle, and just a tiny amount of the other would soften the harshness and make them blend better.
I LLLOOOVVVVEEEE this! Can't wait to try this method with my colour choices
Such beautiful colors. Thank you for the tutorial. How fun.
Thank you so much for watching!
That came out really nice. Love the neons !!
Thank you!
You’re a wizard Rebecca! Absolutely stunning yarn.
Thank you so much!
I love both sets. Great experiment, rebecca. I'm gonna try this method!
YAY! It was a lot of fun and it didn't get tangled. I was so happy!
Ok now this one is my new favorite! I love dayglow colors!!
Thank you so much! It was so much fun to play with these bright colors.
This is SO AWESOME!!! Thank you for this video!
Thank you so much for watching! I had a lot of fun with this one.
I love, love, love, ......... the result. Beautifull colors, both of them ♥
Sending love from Germany
Thank you so much!
I had planned to do this exact thing but you made it much easier to see and remember steps for. Beautiful!!
I'm so glad it was helpful!
How fun! The colors remind me of fruity sherbet, mmm yummy.😋 Especially the more pastel versions. I now want to eat sherbet.
Now I do, too! Maybe time to take the kiddo out for some ice cream. ;)
This is absolutely my favourite!! Love to try this myself just need the supplies.
Go for it! It is soooo fun. You can do this with a large cardboard box etc. :D
Ugh totally in love with this colour
I want to play with these so much more. I'm a cool toned girl but these got me so excited!
I love both of those!
Thank you!
I get a sunset type feel minus the purple. Love both
Thank you!
Great job! Beautiful color!!!
Thank you!
BRAVO Absolutely beautiful
Am totally envious.♡♡♡
Thank you!
both are so beautiful!! i didnt know that it can be done...
Thank you!
Love the colors!
Thank you so much!
Love these!!! Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Lovely colors! I use Eucalan or Unicorn Fiber Rinse with my yarns because I've heard that when you are scouring a fleece regular dish soap leaves a residue, so I think the same is true on the yarn. I loved seeing your process, thanks for the video!
I have some Synthrapol that I need to pull out and start using. habbits are hard to break sometimes. :D
Gorgeous!
SOOO PRETTY!!
Thank you so much!
The colors are frecken awesome 😍
Thank you!
Love the. What you use i really 100% love love love. This color have nice weekend
Thank you, Jodie!
Brilliant work! 36:06 😊
THnak you!
Oh wow, I need to figure out how to do this with my own supplies! (Don't have much) Thanks for inspiring me!
If you don't have a niddy noddy, you could use the back of a chair or a piece of cardboard to wind the minis.
wow amazing colours
Thank you! I LOVE how they turned out.
love them both!!
Thank you so much!
Vibrant. The first is definitely my favorite.
Thank you!
I like them both, but I *love* the more saturated one the most. I'm going to keep this video in mind for when I finally decide on what colours to use in my next striping project ^_^
This worked out so well. I'm super pleased and want to try it out with more stripes for next time.
I would love to see a blue to purple gradient! Love your videos
My favorite colors! ;)
I get the Vicki Brown Designs Mini Skein Club Box in the ombre colourway, how you put the yarn on the swift is how I do the mini skeins (20g) but I do them 1 at a time, but also, they aren't joined together lol
Absolutely beautiful..
Thank you! I'm super proud of this one!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
This is not my all-time favorite colorway but the technique is fascinating. I hope you can do more self-striping yarns soon.
I absolutely plan to play with this more in the future!
Love 💘 the color
Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous 👌🏽
Thank you! 😊
For the pot you use with immersion dyeing, do you need to use separate (non-food) ones? Since you're using the glass jars and keeping them away from food surfaces, it seems to me that you would be pretty safe. Thanks in advance!
P.S. the introduction of reusable zip ties to dyeing is a GAME CHANGER for me.
Whenever I'm using commercial acid dyes I always use a dedicated dye pot - even if I'm using mason jars. I'd rather be overly cautious and safe with this.
I think they are both beautiful
Thank you so much!
Love this video~! I've been looking for years for two different gradient yarns ... one from a blood red (deep) to a chocolate brown. The other a deep evergreen to a chocolate brown. Both would be in my living room area and I wanted to fashion a throw out of it. Very rich and delicious. lol Not even sure it's possible. Had even contemplated one massive skein from blood red to chocolate to evergreen. Humm... gonna give that some more thunk (heavy thinking). ;)
This should definitely be possible! I want to play with this technique again but do some handpainting versus jars with some more skeins.
If you could add six jars to the pot I think would be really cool to do it as a rainbow
It would be so fun to do this as a rainbow! I'm not sure if 6 fit in this pot, but I could probably do it in a steam pan or something. :D
i love them both x
Thank you! These brights make me so happy.
Thank you for such an informative video! I think the yarn turned out awesome. Can you tell me what the measurement to water was in the initial mix. I know it was 20 but to how much water?
I was starting with 1% stock solutions I think so 1 g of dye in 100 mL of liquid. 20 mL would be 0.2 grams of the dye. I **THINK** this is what I did, but I didn't leave it in my notes but this is typically how I mix my stocks.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials thanks.
Very helpful. TY
You're very welcome!
Plz add a blue, green, purple🥰 gorgeous💞
Those are my favorite colors. ;)
I'm quite curious as to what dye was used here. Thanks
The dyes and proportions should be listed in the video description, but I believe I used Dharma acid dyes in Fluorescent Lemon and Fluorescent Fuschia. (I don't remember if I used the safety orange or just mixed the pink and yellow but that info should be below.)
Please sell these specific colored yarns!!! I love them!!!
Thank you! I have plans to do more neon projects.
Can you please show the process of winding the yarn on the niddy noddy
This video is pretty old, and I probably should do an updated version: ua-cam.com/video/W4NDnMrTPHw/v-deo.html
HI Rebecca! Wondering how you weighed out each of the 20g sections. Did you weigh the niddy noddy first then weigh as you added each 20 g? Want to try doing this technique this weekend. Also, love, love, love your videos. You make me excited to dye yarn by just watching them!
First I wound the yarn into a cake, and then I wound the minis on the niddy noddy, weighing the cake every so often to get even sections.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials Thanks so much. That makes more sense.
I really want to do this but with just black and red
That would be so pretty!
Omg I love 💗 these colors girl! Just missing a neon purple lol
Are these dharma or something else? I need to get me some of these. Are they cheap?
Where exactly did u get those bigger thicker sized reusable zip ties at? They are more thicker than the other ones.
These are dharma acid dyes, and I find them very affordable. I purchase the 2 oz jars and they last a REALLY long time.
Whoops I added this above, but adding it here, too:
The zip ties I used should be linked in the video description. (Although sometimes Amazon changes the listing that I've linked to which is annoying, so double check that they are still the reusable ones. They've changed the listing back and forth on me a few times. Ugh.) The ones I use are 12" reusuable zip ties. The ones that KnitCrate sent out are thinner and aren't reusable, but I'm happy they decided to include them.
ChemKnits Tutorials how long is shipping take usually? 😋
Ooo tutti fruitti gradient/striping!!
:D
Can you use rit dye on a hundred percent wool
Yes! It works. I prefer acid dyes on 100% wool but rit definitely works
Rebecca, what is your suggestion if i want to make socks? Divide 100g in half and then how many mini skeins? I have to try this!
This is exactly what I would do. If you were to wind your minis two at a time (but on opposite sides of the niddy noddy - sort of like how I unravel sock blanks ua-cam.com/video/rFfuwWXeDWk/v-deo.html) then each mini could be approximately the same size.
Love your videos! I would love to know how you made your piping for your yarn. Do you have any special dimensions, size of pipe. etc? Thanks in advance, Rebecca!
Yes I do! Here is a video on my DIY niddy noddy: ua-cam.com/video/DanTMqrbxtQ/v-deo.html The description of this video has the names of the different pieces I bought to make it.
The only extra thing is to have the pieces cut for the ends. Usually you can get a few cuts done at home depot or Lowes if you don't have a saw of some kind yourself.
Love!
Thank you!
Their beautiful! How much do you sell these for?
I don't currently have these in stock, but gradients are typically more expensive than my typical 100g skein of sock yarn because of the added labor.
I would love to see a neon green to black gradient. That would be an awesome color...lol
That would be so pretty!
I like them both equally
I'd have trouble deciding myself!
I'm new at yarn dyeing and don't know all the terms. So what do you mean by a yarn spinner dryer and what does it look like? Or do you have a video for that? Thank you
This is the spin dryer I use for yarn - it just removes a lot of liquid making the yarn a bit fluffier since it weighs less while it dries. ua-cam.com/video/cDMp-qz1Yf4/v-deo.html The one I use is discontinued, but there are a lot of similar models. Before I had a spin dryer I used an old salad spinner!
Maybe try a two or three pot bridge with a whole large hank?
That could work. A little hard on my stove top and with the pots i have, but it could absolutely work.
I am mad for Neons 💙💚💛💗💜 Adorable
Thank you!
ChemKnits Tutorials You have inspired me to do some natural dye experiments with coffee extract and onion skins, in separate outings ! Made lovely soft brown shades.
Now moving on to Wilton's food colouring gels 😁 it's great fun 🌈 ties in nicely with my knitting 👌
Woohoo!
These colors are giving RuPaul's Drag Race 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Love it!
Rebecca do you have a link to this pot with the pasta insert? I'm looking to purchase. Thanks
Yes! Here is a list of all of my favorite tools etc www.chemknits.com/2019/07/the-best-tools-equipment-for-dyeing.html The exact pot I use is the SALT® 8 qt. Stainless Steel 4-Piece Multi-Cooker from bed bath and beyond. (I also have the 12 qt pot in the same brand.)
Can you use any type of yarn to dye
Yes and no. For using acid dyes or food coloring you want a protein based yarn (wool alpaca silk). For cotton you need fiber reactive dyes. For synthetics (acrylic and polyester) you need dyes that are marketed for dyeing synthetic fibers.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials ok, thank you
Would love to see you dye subtle muted shades like beige and muted blue with Cream . Is this really hard to do ? ❤️❤️❤️
Pastels are a bit harder because they can strike fast, but this is a possible combination!
@@ChemKnitsTutorials oh really I did wonder why I never saw any thanks 😊
So i attempted dying my own yarn in multi colors and failed (not really failed but not the intended result just something new) with that method. I think I like this method better. It is for sure a cleaner method than the one I did before
I've found that if I approach my dyeing projects with a "I wonder what will happen if I try xyz" type attitude I tend to be really excited by the results. The times when I have a very specific vision in mind are the times I'm more likely to feel disappointed. :D That being said, this technique is a LOT of fun. It is a bit easier to make miniskeins that aren't connected to dye the colors, but having them connected is a lot of fun, too!
It was more like "I will see what happens" but got got all muddied and half turned a doo doo brown color. this method that I tried just was not the right one for me....but thw mess making to find that out was
Girl! These both turned out awesome! I want one lol 😂 I know this is older vid but hey I’d pay u to make me one 😋😉
U should try a hot neon purple with a bright yellow next! Those two colors are awesome together and be perfect for summer 😍
Ooooo purple pop to yellow? I don't think I've tried that combination before.
ChemKnits Tutorials definitely try that combo! It would rock! 🤪
💜💛 but like said I would pay u to make couple hanks of this u did 😁😉
Красота ! Пряжа очаровательна.
How do you know how much acid to add?
Great question, with my tap water, I often use 2 Tbsp white vinegar in 8 cups of water as a starting point. If I want colors to bind faster then I add more, slower I add less. My tap water is slightly acidic to start with, so some people may need to start with more acid.
Ultimately, I came to these ratios with trial and error.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials thank you so much! I was afraid if I don’t add enough acid it wouldn’t adhere right so I’m probably over acidifying my water 🤣 but that’s ok
@@jadagraff4026 FLuorescent dyes like these do require more time, heat and acid often to strike. They tend to strike slower than other dyes.
🤩 Wuaw really 🤩
Thank you!!
Can you by chance review pro chem one shot dyes. I'm trying to see the difference between them and just regular acid dyes. I can't see a difference really. Also can't fine any reviews or videos on them. Also sorry I keep asking questions and asking if u can review this and that a lot. Its just your the only active Dyer I can find on UA-cam. I found other people who dye on UA-cam but there not very active or engaging
I appreciate questions and requests! I don't know much about prochem dyes to be honest. I just published a video using Country Classic dyes and shared my first thoughts on those. ua-cam.com/video/R0vRgxo6FBo/v-deo.html These dyes have citric acid mixed in, so it might be similar to the one shot ones. I will need to test out these one shot dyes.
In general, I found that I prefer "standard" acid dyes because I like to control the amount of acid that I add. SInce I have a good feel for saturation and how much dye to use with things like dharma and jacquard, it felt strange for me to use the country classic dyes and have no real sense of how saturatedthe color owuld be per the amount of dye that I used. I hope this helps for now!
hi Rebeca the sponsorship on etsy is sold out.but I really liked the colors!
I released a few more slots on Monday and they sold out almost immediately. They're restocking less frequently right now because my production times are a lot longer than normal. 😞 If you're interested, you can send me a message on Etsy to be on a waiting list so I can message you and they restock again.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials ok thanks!
Hello I am new to your channel thanks for sharing it
Welcome to the channel! Thank you for watching.
Has anyone been unhappy with what you dyed for them? And what do you do if they truly dislike what came from your dyepot? I mean if they sponsor one of the videos. I forgot to tell you im in love with your neons. I got them once or twice with neon Wilton's and i am doing more next week. Im thinkin about getting some Dharma dyes to start making more colors and deeper saturation. Do you still like koolaid and food colors Rebecca?
I haven't heard if someone has been unhappy yet. If they have been they haven't told me. This is one of the big reasons why I ask for colors to avoid so that I can try to create something they might enjoy. :D
I absolutely still love food coloring! There are some more food coloring videos in the pipeline. :D Wilton color right remains my favorite.
Sometimes sponsors mention a few of their favorite videos or reach out with an suggestion/question. That helps me design the video for them, too.
Try using a home canner. My canner holds 7 quart size jars.
I have a home canner but not a dedicated dye one. At some point I'll get a wider one for dyeing!
Use a home canner. Mine holds 7 quart size jars.
I need to get one dedicated for dyeing. :D
Name ideas: ‘Dayglo delight’ & ‘Dayglo fade’, i love both of these!
Love it!
I never had the itch to color, but youve changed my mind, tbh.
If you would ship these out I'd love to order them!!!
Awe, thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any of this yarn left in stock, but I do have a lot of other colorways (not gradients like this, though) in my shop: chemknitscreations.etsy.com/
Oooooo‼
