DW is a very nice guy, ive had the pleasure of meeting him in person and spending 2 hrs with him while I was fixing his cable TV. He was exactly as he seems and was a very dedicated Christian. He told me a few story's one including Dale Earnhardt Sr. I got a picture and autograph and he tipped me $100!
Same here! We laid carpet in the house by the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Mostly with Stevie then him later. Came back the next day and got hats. My 77 Pontiac Grand Prix wagon broke a tie rod in his gravel driveway so we had to kick the tire straight all along to get it out. Then of course, drove it on home carefully. Great family, and same thing, $100 tip!

In the 1984, Darrell Waltrip came to me in the rain in Talladega a few days before the race and said he had to get 14 jackets down to the pits for my guys, we didn't expect this rain. He signed off on the jackets and I took the golf cart down to the pits, where I met him and gave him the jackets. I had met him say 3 or 4 times in the pits the last few years and I can honestly say I saw a big change in him, from a distance. Totally different human being. I always have liked his driving style, I think he was much better as the jackass in 81 and 82. Love you Darrell!

Used to see him all the time in the Concord Pizza Hut and he always talked and smiled with anyone stopping to say Hi. We actually used to see lots of drivers around town doing normal things before it got where the drivers were Hollywood level celebrities.
Waltrip was a super-star in the early to mid-eighties. Mouthy? Yes! But the man could drive an old-school NASCAR stock car and proved he could drive the modern-day rides. We are given the choice to accept Christ or not. He chose to accept Christ. I see it as an admirable quality of his.
Sometimes God will open our eyes in REALLY BIG ways. I thank God he finally opened mine. And yes I've been on da bottom. It made me learn to appreciate little things so much more God. Family self. God bless you DW
I can't even imagine D.W. as a bad guy. I didn't keep up with NASCAR at that time and don't anymore, but when I did, he seemed like he was always happy, upbeat and very positive.
When the good Lord get hold of you IT will change you. He is a God of mercy and love. Letting him take charge is the best thing you will ever do in your life. Thanks Darryl for your testimony.
Drove that Yellow Pepsi Challenger car in 1983 after winning 2 straight championships. Had tons of bad luck even though he was fast every week. He was practically the most popular driver after Rusty Wallace wrecked him in the AllStar race in 1989.
Huh. I really wasn't following NASCAR back then. F1, Indycar, IMSA and SCCA were my main focus back then, but I eventually caught the NASCAR bug later in life. My point being, I didn't know he had a bad rap back then. Well, it's obvious he's done a 180 degree attitude adjustment, so kudos for that!. I always liked him behind the microphone. Keep up with the good work, Darrell.
rise in my heart Dale Earnhardt senior may he rest in peace I still watch NASCAR this is the same but they'll hurt or hurt Jr is still with us and may he keep may he keep running the NASCAR in the Navi memory of his father keep up the good work keep the greasy side down and the shiny side up Junior you are a good driver and I know you can win the race
I seen him at Pocono in 05. He was coming from the Hollywood Hotel to the booth and to get there you have to go under the tunnel and behind the grandstands and up an elevator, and behind the grandstands is where everyone comes in to get to their seats and he was real nice, he talked to the people and answered questions. DW is a nice guy, he walked to the elevator shook everyones hands, signed a few things. Its too bad I didn't have anything to sign other than a 5 dollar bill to go buy some food
Before Kyle Busch, it was Jeff Gordon. Before Jeff Gordon, it was Darrell Waltrip. It's amazing how one commitment to God can change not just a man himself, but his entire image. I wish Kyle would take notes on this. He could be like DW and Jeff and completely change his image.
@MassillonJoe , Youre so right. Isnt it great a young kid like Trevor comes along. Good racer for a youngster and more humble than the rest. I dont watch alot of racing cause of the haughtiness but enjoyed watching Trevor win. Hope he remains humble
I agree with you Darrell. It took me nearly dying in a wreck to get me to understand that my number can be up anytime. I'm thankful to the man above for letting me walk away from that wreck.
When you are down and everything is looking gloomy and dark you must remember this about Jesus: If you put your trust in Him, He will NEVER let you down.

I was 1 of the racing fans that absolutely hated DW on the track & I'd rather see him lose than for my favorite driver to win. But in his last 8-10 years I became a big fan of DW. I can't explain why, but you could not notice a change in him. Now I know what brought about that change
+GiantLotad/Paradise Nine Yeah I hate how the comments turned into a fight about religion just because he mentioned how he found his religion/deity. It's his damn choice, and if it gave him peace of mind after that traumatic experience, then there's no problem.
Jesus Christ is everything to me. I cannot live without Him. I am in love with Him. He chose my wife and told me she would come to me, so I waited, and we have been married now for 40 years. I was in a tornado and was the only car to come out of a whole line of cars. I was saved from drowning my Him in the middle of a cold lake in march. He told me what to do and then moved the boat I was swimming for 100 yards to me. He saved me from a car that t-boned me and I slid sideways and a loaded semi truck ran over my car and He saved me. He saved me when as a child I was caught in a irrigation canal lock when He reached in and pulled me out. He saved me when I was hunting and crawled up 8' off the ground and was nose to nase with a 5 1/2' timber rattler and it did not bite me. My nose was 6" from his. He saved me so many times. God bless you Darrell and everyone who has been saved by the Lord.
GREAT TESTIMONY. !!!!!! Many can recount the extraordinary times of danger when they were spared injury or death by the PROVIDENTIAL HAND of their loving savior !!!!!!!!!!!!
@@Nathan_Breeze ---Satan has tried to kill me many times. While in the middle of that cold lake I heard Satan speak to me. He told me "Your going to die". I was around 500 yards off shore. My body totally cramped. I had very little body fat and could not float. I thought I would try to swim back but at that moment another voice, much more calm and soothing said "If you turn, you will die". I looked all around. There was not another boat on the lake. It was too cold. I began to cry out to the Lord. You see my wife, child, and inlaws were on shore trying to see me. I begged the Lord "Please don't let me drown in front of my wife. She will never get over it." I told Him I was willing to die but not in front of her. It was then He said "Put your face in the water". So I held my breath and put my face, face down into the water. After a moment I could feel the waves lapping over my back. I didn't sink. I held it as long as I could, then got another breath and did it again and again. The boat was 100 yards ahead of me being blown away with a 25 mph wind. The next moment I remember the boat was 10 feet away. I reached out and pulled the water and swam to the boat. I wrapped my arms around the lower unit of the motor and interlocked my fingers. I hung there for I don't know how long. I finally got enough energy and climbed into the boat. I drove the boat back where everyone was waiting. I did not tell anyone about what had happened until years later. The Lord is real and time is short. Prophecies are coming to pass everywhere. Lord bless and be with you.

It seems that people are missing the point....Darrell accepted Christ and his forgiveness into his heart. He became a Born Again Christian. Jesus is what changed him. Darrell is not perfect by any means but, he is assured a Heavenly home now and he has that small still voice within that directs his actions and his life. John 3:16 KJV Jesus Saves
All Nascar drivers from today must see this video. I Think Darrell Waltrip was a sensational sportsman as well as Dale Sr. Inside the track he was a warrior but outside of it a real human being with good moral principles. We have to learn a lot from Darrell.
I see that your comment is a month old, but I just want to say that you are absolutely right. I love DW and he sure loves the race. He's a great guy and some of the other drivers could learn a thing or 2 from his passion for the sport. BOOGITY BOOGITY BOOGITY!
He switched from Bud to Tide because at the end of the 1986 season he left Junior Johnson racing which had Bud as a sponsor and went to Hendrick Motorsports to start a new team, and they had Tide as their sponsor.
I was never a big fan of Darrell (I still fly my Intimidator flags at the track) but I always kinda secretly liked him. However nobody can deny that he was a fierce competitor and to this day is still a great man! Looking back I really did enjoy watching his rivalry with Dale Sr come full circle. After Steve Park was injured Sr needed a great driver and D W needed a ride. Sr knew who he had to call. 2 great competitors on Sunday and 2 great men EVERY day. Unfortunately only one of them is still with us. There's an old saying...winners come and go but heros are forever. In my mind these men will both live forever!
I started liking Darrell when he drove the #88 Gatorade car in the late 70's. I was 5 or 6. I can say, I was the only DW fan in school... I'll never forget though, he'd TELL you he was going to win next and he did it... As for his attitude and demeanor, ALL the drivers had the "GET OUT OF MY WAY or GET OFF THE TRACK" attitude back then...
Great video. I hate to see someone get hurt in an accident, but I hope Kyle Bush has a similar turn around after his nasty wreck today in the Coke 400. If he learns to play nicer he could become great fun to watch, like DW was and is now.
Curtis Rupp // I remember Jeff as one or the best of drivers that ever was. He and Mark Martin put on some of the best racing I’ve ever seen, both drivers, clean as can be proved you could be a winner without wrecking half the field doing so. As far as the fans go, they can be unnecessarily ruthless when they want to be.
This is why a lot of people don't understand NASCAR, the South, Fox, America, etc. There's an unadvertised Spirit that permeates such a lifestyle, and it is because we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
Why is this situation so common? A near death experience, a death of a family member, something like that before people become good and realize there is more to life than themselves. It's a serious question.
Kyle Busch is going through what Waltrip went through. Won a bunch of races seemingly bulletproof, checkers or wreckers mentality win at all costs, very very similar in style to Darrell in his heyday. Kyle also draws strong feelings like Darrell did, but he'll come back down once he realizes what Darrell realized.

Galen Brown AMEN
best comment on this page by far
Also I think now he says BOOGITE BOOGITE BOOGITE LETS GO RACING BOYS AND GIRLS
I'm not even a Christian and I applaud this comment.
Love DW, sad he retired , will miss him.
Amen DW. This was really good
Meet DW many times and he is a first class guy!
Learn to spell
Trevor freed it's called an auto-fill mistake on a small keyboard douchebag. Feel free to spellcheck check me on "douchebag".
Trevor freed Learn to be human.
I love ya DW. Always a true fan !!!
Sometimes God will open our eyes in REALLY BIG ways.
I thank God he finally opened mine. And yes I've been on da bottom. It made me learn to appreciate little things so much more
God. Family self.
God bless you DW
I can't even imagine D.W. as a bad guy. I didn't keep up with NASCAR at that time and don't anymore, but when I did, he seemed like he was always happy, upbeat and very positive.
He was a winner. People hate when someone wins all the time
Great words from a humble race car driver. God is the answer..............
Patrick J. Mele There is no “God.”
I'm replying to a 3 year old comment because I'm a bad ass.
Mathew you wish I'm the bad ass me
Mathew I respond to all bullshit god crap. Pretty pathetic
.
TIMMMAY67 I am a doctor and a humble man of science but I have seen thing's that science can't explain I reserve my opinion.
When the good Lord get hold of you IT will change you. He is a God of mercy and love. Letting him take charge is the best thing you will ever do in your life. Thanks Darryl for your testimony.
I remember watching a replay of when DW went around bathurst the race track. He will be missed from commentary next year.
I never looked at DW as a bad guy, he's always been a top notch guy in my book. And I'm a Earnhardt Sr. Fan.
DW was the man !!! I was his #1 fan !!! Sad I have never got to meet him !!!
There are several drivers that should listen to his words of wisdom !!
Jesus truly is the ONE who makes the difference in a person's life! Without him, we're nothing. Nothing!!!
Nicely done DW!!!!
I now have a new found respect for you Sir.
This video was made when the COT started
how could anyone not like DW? hes awesome
Awesome! You found what it's really all about!
That was real NASCAR Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip those guys were true cowboys yep
opiateEP yes now we have nothing but groom little boys
Before Kyle Busch, it was Jeff Gordon. Before Jeff Gordon, it was Darrell Waltrip. It's amazing how one commitment to God can change not just a man himself, but his entire image. I wish Kyle would take notes on this. He could be like DW and Jeff and completely change his image.
because kyle busch is not a fake like these others. kyle busch may be an ass sometimes, but he doesn't pretend to be something he's not.
You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel
everytime i watch the 01 atlanta race, when dave blaneys wheel comes off, i sing along lol
the tall fisherman Oh damn! That's wrong AND funny! 😂😂🤣
When you are down and everything is looking gloomy and dark you must remember this about Jesus: If you put your trust in Him, He will NEVER let you down.
religion is a lie created for money
@@mwilliams27 that's includes your fake god.
@@mwilliams27 What signs? Man destroys the planet and you call it a rapture? Science disproves everything your bible of bullshit claims. I only regret I was an atheist sooner.
@JIMMY HENDERSON peer reviewed science, not that sudo science bullshit you're referring to. Are you suggesting someone actually built a boat large enough to hold two every species? Absolutely silly to believe in such fairy tails.
@JIMMY HENDERSON You ate making a lot of claims and assumptions. Do you have any sources for your statistics?
I grew up in a Christian household and did my research. This is why I've become an atheist, not because some guy on UA-cam said so. Critical thinking is a two way road and I invite you to share your sources for your carbon dating and other claims so I may make these judgements for myself.
Skepticism is a two way road. I'm not indefinite with my conclusion and willing to change my mind as I come across more evidence to support any claim of a deity.
"I'm going with C as my final answer" is a foolish assumption of anyone who has skepticism. If that was the case, I'd still be worshipping today.
Don't bring consequences of a fallacy as an argument unless you're ready to prove it's existence.
I look at this man differently after this interview. I'm a fan
Me too! ❤
Love you brother , when we get to heaven lend me your ear for a few thousand years
Thanks for courageously sharing it DW. Nothing greater than a close relationship with Christ.
I was 1 of the racing fans that absolutely hated DW on the track & I'd rather see him lose than for my favorite driver to win. But in his last 8-10 years I became a big fan of DW. I can't explain why, but you could not notice a change in him. Now I know what brought about that change
Look--everyone of us has a story. This is Darrell's story. Let's everyone just respect it whether we get it or not.
+GiantLotad/Paradise Nine Yeah I hate how the comments turned into a fight about religion just because he mentioned how he found his religion/deity. It's his damn choice, and if it gave him peace of mind after that traumatic experience, then there's no problem.
Brotad STFU. Daryl deserves no respect.
You don't speak for Me. I speak for myself. 🖕 Waltrip sucks👎🖕
I agree, respect for him.
Won't make me shed one tear if you hate on me or him.
He is an alright guy.
You seem to get into a lot of risky predicaments.
No matter what they say Daryl ,I always thought of you as the gentleman in nascar
Always a Darrell Waltrip fan.
An amazing man and one hell of an amazing driver.
Amen Brother....I have always been a fan.
He deserves to be in the nascar hall of fame and i can only hope he makes it there
Darrell waltrip great man who loves the lord
jeff chapman Lord who? There are no gods.
Dominick's Trains & Movies Which of the 5,000 or so fictional fantasy gods do you kneel to? Seems the religious goon indoctrination is high in you. Sorry snowflake - Jesus never existed and your god is just a selfish cunt who gives cancer to children.
Dominick's Trains & Movies LOL - those are not facts. Seens you have been immorally indoctrinated into absurd deluded gibberish.
Ink Black yes there is God knows you and loves you
Probably the best way Darrell can look at that crash now, he got a sample of his baptizm under fire.
Amen....
Congratulations Darrell....
God bless....
It seems that people are missing the point....Darrell accepted Christ and his forgiveness into his heart. He became a Born Again Christian. Jesus is what changed him. Darrell is not perfect by any means but, he is assured a Heavenly home now and he has that small still voice within that directs his actions and his life.
John 3:16 KJV
Jesus Saves
All Nascar drivers from today must see this video. I Think Darrell Waltrip was a sensational sportsman as well as Dale Sr. Inside the track he was a warrior but outside of it a real human being with good moral principles. We have to learn a lot from Darrell.
I see that your comment is a month old, but I just want to say that you are absolutely right. I love DW and he sure loves the race. He's a great guy and some of the other drivers could learn a thing or 2 from his passion for the sport. BOOGITY BOOGITY BOOGITY!
I was a DW fan then and I am still a fan.
Jesus is a powerful person that can change people's lifes around
Just look at darrell waltrip for instents
Follow that quote with Mr. Dylan's version.... "Be careful who you're nice to on the way up, sooner or later you're gonna meet them coming down."
Wow, what a great testimony!!!
hell i always loved good man darrel waltrip he was just like any other driver it will go to your head at first
Next to senior. #3
Ok. Your ok to.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL 😇✌🤗
I personally am not a religious man, But I can appreciate when someone turns their attitude around.
Jesus mike joy was announcing back then too? I saw him interviewing darrell in this video lol .
I'm about the same age and can confirm ... the jerk really did turn into very good man!
Great video. I hate to see someone get hurt in an accident, but I hope Kyle Bush has a similar turn around after his nasty wreck today in the Coke 400. If he learns to play nicer he could become great fun to watch, like DW was and is now.
In 1976 I went to Rose's and brought a toy car #88 and that day A NASCAR RACE WAS ON TV ,,,and DW , WON THE RACE , AND IM STILL A Walltrip fan
Poor Darrel :( He was the kindest man and the most unpopular I feel bad for him someone throwing stuff at him
yeah
Curtis Rupp // I remember Jeff as one or the best of drivers that ever was. He and Mark Martin put on some of the best racing I’ve ever seen, both drivers, clean as can be proved you could be a winner without wrecking half the field doing so. As far as the fans go, they can be unnecessarily ruthless when they want to be.
i'm not much of a nascar fan but DW is one of my favorite drivers of all time. that sure was a nasty hit though - good thing he wasnt seriously hurt
boogity boogity boogity let's go racing Darell!!!we love you
Don't beat yourself up DW. The good die young or retire early. You've had a full successful career and life
This is why a lot of people don't understand NASCAR, the South, Fox, America, etc. There's an unadvertised Spirit that permeates such a lifestyle, and it is because we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
I love both DW and Kyle busch. The attitude is refreshing :)
On the contrary, more of them worship the Lord today than ever before. Praise God for he works in many wonderful ways!
Nice video
Why is this situation so common? A near death experience, a death of a family member, something like that before people become good and realize there is more to life than themselves. It's a serious question.
God resists the proud but giveth grace to the humble
You were never unpopular with me, Daryl Waltrip.
Kyle has already had that change. A lot of folks refuse to see it, butbhe is a gentle warm human being, even more than others would ever believe
