I owned a used 964RS 25 years ago for about $60,000. Exterior color is red. This car is so much fun to drive that I took it out of the garage when I got home and drove it through the mountains and plateaus almost every night. I ran 60,000 kilometers in one year. And it was scrapped after causing an accident on the highway in the rain. short memories.
At least you created memories in it. These guys who are afraid to drive them, worried birdpoop will lower their value are bizarre. lol A picture is cheaper in that case.
This car is why I ended up with an MR2... besides it being an MR2 lol. Always wanted that mid/rear experience because of this era Porche but a Toyota was a little more obtainable in my 20s. What a great drive in a truly amazing car!
@@hectichive889 Wish I kept the little bugger... honestly the way the market has been, Miatas are still where it's at. Always wanted to make one a fastback and drop more power in it. Nothing fast, just quick with great handling. Good fun on a dime.
I had a slightly dismissive view on the 964 to start out with, compared to the first gen. Now I think it's aged superbly, and the RS is dream car material for me. Thanks for this very special episode Tedward!
Tedward - thanks so much man. Been watching your vid over and over. It’s like being in the car! Best 964rs video on UA-cam right now. Thanks so much. Will have to make do with my 3.2 Carrera!
Probably my favorite 911 ever. I had a couple of 964s and drove an RS America and loved them, but I was always dreaming of the real RS. I remember the contemporary UK road tests saying how brutally harsh the suspension was so now that I am older it would probably be a deal killer. Oh that and the $300k price. I think a C2 with coilovers, and exhaust and some weight removal would get you 90% there but as Ted said, but that last 10% is what makes them so special.
I lived in the uk in the 90 's and owned a right drive one , drove it at nuburging several times amonst other racetracks . It was absolutely awesome, only mods were a rechip and exhaust. system . The sound and the way it drove would was sooo involving and exciting!!! I driven alot of awesome cars very few made feel like road hero!!
A Porsche from their very own roots. This the type of stuff that made them so special and remarkable. It really should have been a lot of fun to drive.
my dream car too! participated in an air-cooled rallye last year and one was there, I couldn't stop staring and drooling. Guy drove the heck out of it, which was awesome!
I may be biased but I prefer the 944 interiors to all the contemporary 911 interiors of their respective eras. They just look sleeker. I think its the torque tube tunnel that really ads to the cockpit feel. That or I want a 911 and can't afford it so I tell myself this whenever I see one.
The reason I love Porsches is because they are probably the only car company that have evolved without changing their basic design. A Porsche is immediately distinguishable.
I still prefer the Carrera 3.2 with the G50 just because it's a true 911 with torsion bars and I just freaking love the original design. But damn this would be second place for a N/A car. It's sweet and congratulations to the future owner.
Porsche underestimate there hp,harry from Harry's garage had one on the dyno and it was making around 350 ,and then the car only weighs a tad over 1100kgs
Yeah fast dropping revs are actually easier to catch after a little warm up than the long drag many other cars have. It will basically be where you need it every time you shift every time. It becomes an extension of your body
Dear Tedward, this and Damien's review (from the CarGuys) are really outstanding in terms of quality and accuracy of the content. Had one myself for 10 years and will look out for one in the future for sure. Lots of these now go across the pond into your direction, as you know due to that 25 year rule. Im not a 911 guy, but if i ever bought one, this would be it. Or the 993 RS CS.....and its funny what you said, the same happened to me. I grew up liking 993s but with time that appreciation shifted to the 964
While 991.2 GT3RS steering wheel is my all time fav, this one definitely scores the 1st place ex aequo. I just don't think you can rate one higher than the other if you like both 3 and 4 point steering wheels. It's just a thing of beauty, just like the whole car. No wonder pricing is so wild.
The 964 is by far my favorite 911. They look quite strange if you really look at it compared to other 911's, kinda like an egg in my mind, but can you really go wrong with a 964? I don't think so
