If I had a ton of money I would go to Scotland, buy a historical home, rebuild in and live out my remain days. My Nanny was born in Oban Scotland and my Mum was born in London. I felt a connection when I visited Scotland. I loved it there.

I agree. The money ran out, (the money always runs out) then they started selling valuables to hang onto this place. They may have to abandon it, but they haven't yet. They are somewhere, desperately hoping to find the money to pay back taxes or whatever, it's not abandoned yet--get out.

I love this house! Wish someone could tell us more about its history. I sure hope someone will restore it. The location is lovely and as soon as I saw the exterior of the home, I was drawn to it. I especially like the stairwells, the tower, all the windows even in storage areas, and the blue library.

The Linn, Cove, Argyll Scotland. The gardens form The Linn Botanic gardens, now being restored after the deaths of Dr Jim Taggart and his late son Jamie (who sadly died on a botanising trip to Viet Nam). Dr Jim lived for his gardens, but sadly lived rather poorly in the house. Hugh Grant, actor, had a family connection with the house. House and gardens sold for peanuts. New owner renovating and has just opened gardens, was on Gardener's World last week.

I felt like I could be very at home in that house. I don''t know why. It doesn't look particularly comfortable at present, in need of repairs & refurbishment & comfy beds & a thorough clean. (Despite some beautiful antique furniture.) However I could imagine walking into that first sittingroom & sitting & looking out of the window for a long time, watching the weather & the light fade. I could imagine being invited to stay there & curling up on a sofa in front of a log fire & sharing poetry & talking of the world until the wee hours of the morning.

I think we might need to get a few repairs done & mould cleared away first though, before we can install ourselves on one of those sofas in front of a cheerful log fire, with two big mugs of hot chocolate & some crumpets. (Make my cocoa with Almond milk it is the most yummy.) See you there. P.s. I am usually very quiet but like conversations that go to the bones of things at times.

Probably because of the money required to upkeep them, the weather is quite wet in Scotland. Death duties don't help and a lot of these big houses are in remote places. A lot of the roads are better now but even 30 years ago it could take forever to get anywhere on narrow winding roads, not that many railway stations, staff may be hard to find unless live-in, Edinburgh and Glasgow are fine but not many large cities and towns especially in the highlands so lack of the shops you'd want or need.

Really liked this place. From the dishes to the size of it to the view from the top. I would buy this house and restore it. Or is someone doing that already? Cheers to you.

Someone does live there, they are in the process of doing the house up. So the people that have done this video have broken into someones private property.

@@emmataylor6028 It's also within the grounds of a maintained botanical garden. I was there a few years ago and didn't think for a second that it was actually abandoned.

Why the family left such palatial house after staying a few years ? The location, design, and ultimate time of construction taken must be some more years than the total years of occupancy.

One thing that is very noticeable on these abandoned property videos is the lack of dust on most horizontal surfaces. Can anyone explain this phenomenon - ?

@19:45 Beautiful! And that staircase & windows 😍.
The entire house is Great- so many bathrooms, fireplaces. The garden - courtyard is still good. Just needs a little manicure.

What a wonderful house! Outside and inside, had so many really nice architectural details. Beautiful fireplaces, doors, windows, rooms. So many books everywhere, too. The folks that had lived there were undoubtably educated and had a bit of money, judging from all the beautiful things that were left behind. I imagine some things may have been removed earlier by family (I hope). Would be so nice to see this home renovated and lived in again. Very beautiful. Thank you for taking us along on this tour. Appreciated. I don't usually, but am tempted to watch this vid again.

Are any of these up for sale or is there a place to find this answer so I can research for myself? These are too beautiful to go to such waste. Maybe they were inherited by someone that doesn’t want it…? Or it is just unclaimed?
