I had very limited time to explore Bannockburn house before it got dark, so I had to be fast. Unlike fake ghost hunting TV shows, I do not have banks of lighting or a full TV crew with me, while pretending to be alone. It's just me, one camera, a little flashlight & sometimes my son is with me, but he's taking photos as I film. As for the music, I made two versions, one with music and one without, both versions were shown to friends and they were asked to vote on which version they preferred to watch. 80% preferred with music.

Bannockburn house was built in the late 17th Century, with slight alterations added in the 19th Century. The house was most probably commissioned by Sir Hugh Paterson in 1675

Bannockburn House is a national treasure with rich history. Its Jacobite connection makes the property even more interesting. Western culture the world over is being abandoned and devalued. Constant funding required for maintenance of these sites is a real obstacle. Even in southern California, we struggle to repair historic properties -- most notably, the RMS Queen Mary, built in Clydebank, Scotland, from 1930 to 1936 (construction interrupted during the Great Depression). Your fascinating tour proves Bannockburn House deserves loving restoration!

Just as you went into the attic, I said to myself, "that's usually where the ghosts like to hide..." Then you heard footsteps.... These old, old manors estates, castles, ...so many rooms, doors, hallways, stairs ... So BIG. Fascinating! Omg the history these places hold. Built late 17th century...wow.

Those stone steps on the ascent upstairs were so bellied out from use. That would have taken quite some time to do with footwear. A true indication of the activity that went on in this house. What an amazing treasure.

You have to wonder, what did this mansion look like in It's hey day! Must have been incredibly beautiful. Makes me nostalgic about the people who lived, loved, married, had babies...families come and gone. All in this house.
Just watched this again and heard the footsteps! As a Scott living Australia I know more about Scottish history than I did when living there and am so proud of my heritage and can't wait to show my sons thank you again for this video

You went to great lengths to take us inside Bannockburn, and thanks for the product. I did have trouble most times discerning your footsteps with those we were meant to hear. Maybe in future you could provide brief fonts (e.g. "our footsteps", "unseen" or the like) to help folks along. I salute your respect for the site.

I absolutely loved this tour. However with that said I wish there could’ve been more commentary on the history and gone a little bit slower so we can see everything. I realize you had somebody waiting for you. With all the paranormal I give you props for being so calm. Maybe that’s why you breezed through so quickly LOL

Your son made this extra spooking. Standing still by the window as you walk past the door. When you looked at the mirror and you see him walking past in the reflection.

I think that's the trade off with a lot of these youtubers. The narcissist urbex youtubers are slow and detailed but they put crap music and too much of their face on their videos, while people who are 100% purely content like to move quickly through rooms. I think I'll take the latter everytime though.

Superbly done video! It really gives a good feel for the size and layout of the house. I can see why there's a Victorian addition...the house is so tiny! I love that everything in it is so original. I could happily live there alone, and in the condition it's presently in, as long as i didn't see or hear anything unworldly. The bathrooms are incredible as is the kitchen. Hopefully this treasure won't be ravaged by hideous modernizations, as is always the case in the US. Thanks for sharing.
brokenglass: Unfortunately, it is also the case in the UK; look at how the old Counties such as Kent and Sussex have been treated. I can never understand why people buy a lovely old house, with all its historical accretions, and promptly turn it into an ugly, modern house. We live in a tiny cottage dating back to 1789 and have tried to restore it to its original condition.
I love Scotland, especially the Scottish Highlands and its people. The old castles are really amazing. Thanks for the video!

I loved this old place, and you carried out a lot, in the limited time you had! It was like steppiong back into the Victorian or Edwardian ages! I have sen a few of your videos, and have enjoyed them a lot. I came from the West Highlands and all the older places remind me of what our lives were like before the modern age came in! My two American young friends are also your friends, and it is nice to see you all doing major venues together, as you each can help the other develop great skills. Beautiful. I do hope that it isn't left open like that for people to vandalize. I personally would have shut the windows and doors I found open to protect it from the elements. It needs all the help it can get. It is in such good condition for being abandoned. I do hope the new owners are able to afford the upkeep and repairs.
I was worried also but he mentioned the lady who let them in was still in her car. There were two cars out front. Im sure that person took care to secure the place. If she had a key & was responsible.
I would have shut them also.

Unfortunately places like that where I live usually get torn down. The nice, older buildings usually end up in disrepair or unwanted squatters ruin them.
Should be brought back to it's former glory .So big & very pretty woodwork .

Nice explore. Enjoy seeing the way the castle was designed, with such convoluted rooms and hallways, and beautiful woodwork. Good camera work, too, I got to get a good look at interesting stuff without getting dizzy.

This 'Estate' is SOMETHING!!!! Although it needs ALOT of LOVE, it would be INCREDIBLE if redone!!!! The thing is, a person or group of people would CONSTANTLY have to work on this place, which would cost a BLOODY FORTUNE!!!!

Bannockburn House was built in the late 17th Century, with slight alterations added in the 19th Century. The house was most probably commissioned by Sir Hugh Paterson in 1675, whose son and grandson were made Baronets of that house. In the year of 1746, prior to the Battle of Culloden, it was this 2nd Baronet who entertained Charles Edward Stuart in Bannockburn House, where he met the Baronet's niece, Clementina Walkinshaw, who would later become his lover and mother of his child. When the house passed to the 2nd Baronet's daughter, Mary, in 1787, she sold the property to William Ramsey of Barnton and Sauchie. The house stayed in the Ramsey Family until it came to Sir James Ramsey Gibson-Maitland, who sold it to Alexander Wilson in 1883. Alexander was a member of the famous Bannockburn weaving family of Wilson. Alexander made many additions and changes to the house, including a new porch entrance and extension to the library and office, and above the main doorway a recess to accommodate a coat of arms which now is empty.
In 1910 Bannockburn House was sold to the Sheriff Substitute of Stirling at the time, James Mitchell. In 1962 Mitchell's daughter sold the house, after living in it for 32 years. She sold the house to the multi-property owning millionaire A.E Pickard. The house was formerly owned by Peter Drake. It was placed on the market for sale in February 2016. A local charitable Community Trust was formed to try and purchase the house for the community and for the people of Scotland. Their aim is to safeguard the property for future generations. It was announced in April 2017 that the Trust had secured an exclusive right to buy the property and were actively fundraising to raise the required funds. This was achieved in November 2017 with a mixture of public money and grants.
The house and estate have been used as a filming location for Susan Hill's Ghost Story, an adaptation of her novel, The Small Hand, shown on Channel 5 on Boxing Day 2019. The film stars Douglas Henshall and Louise Lombard.
In August 2018 the Trust planned to hold an excavation in the grounds. Dr Murray Cook was due to lead the survey.
what this place reminds me of is how I was NEVER warm when living in Scotland for 3 years. Very interesting to view. Thanks from Canada.

Due to a recent incident at the house I would like to take this opportunity to remind viewers that Bannockburn House is not abandoned, and never has been. The house is currently operated by a community trust and those interested in seeing it can come along to open days or events.
Its no fault of the channel here, but someone who saw this video believed it was abandoned and tried to enter recently. Luckily they were spotted before any harm could be done. If only they had actually paid attention

Head family members and special guests usually have their private bedroom, dressing room and sitting room all joined together. I would have liked to have seen the sequence as you went through especially Bonnie Prince Charles's suite just to get the feel and layout a bit clearer. Of course most of the day rooms were upstairs too in those times.

I"m willing to bet something very interesting is in the sealed part of the attic. Not that I would be brave enough to unseal it and look in it. Some of the furnishings are absolutely beautiful. I agree with Denise, slower would be great, I like to appreciate the architecture and the craftsmanship that the furniture. I don't know why but I expected the hallways to be wider. I think I understand why the lady that let them in stayed in her car. I'd love to see something like this to be restored and lived in but I don't want to hear footsteps from no mortal source.
It would be really interesting to set up a bunch of video cams and other recording for overnight. Wonder what would show up. I bet he's right, that it is haunted.

You mentioned that Bonny Prince Charlie stayed here in 1746. How far is this house from where the Battle of Culloden was fought?! Were men fighting for his reinstatement to the throne camped on the property? I would have loved to see more detail in the rooms, fireplaces, ceilings, window and door frames, etc. Just slow down a bit, but it was a Great Video!! Just stumbled on to you!!

By road, today, Bannockburn and Culloden are 146 miles apart. Some of his army were camped around the property.
Brenda Farmer Its close to the battle of Falkirk site where the Jacobite army beat the government army.
Prince Charles Edward Stuart stayed here in 1745, prior to going on to Edinburgh, where he stayed in Holyrood Palace. On September 21st. they fought the English Army, and won the battle of Prestonpans! After this they marched into England, and got as far as Derby, but then turned back, and ended up losing the battle of Culloden in April 1746, out side Inverness! The young lady of Banockburn House, Clementina Walkingshaw, followed her Prince to the continent, and was his lover for a good few years!................................old Tich.

Those footsteps, I think my heart skipped a beat, I hoped it was the lady who let us into the house, I think my jaw dropped when I realised she was still outside in her car. As we were about to leave, she started closing all the window shutters and she said it was OK for us to go and leave her to close them all, my son and I stayed as we really could not have walked away and left her in there alone, so we waited until she locked the door and left with us.

I hate the chairs, they were not in the middle of the room, when I did quick tour before I hit record. I did not tell my son about them until we left the house, otherwise he would have left even before I started filming.

A very splendid home in excellent condition. Very old, good quality architecture but it has a very forbidding and heavy spirit on it. I hope it gets good sympathetic owners who is willing to add and show off this lovely building to its former beauty and fulfilling its better potential of never rotting in a corner and caving in. Loved this video!! Hope the new owners preserve the beautiful home. I am surprised how nice & wide the servants stairs are in the lower areas. Typically, they paid less attention to them.. thus guaranteed accidents when carting heavy items to the main areas of the home...
Haunted or No I wanna live there. That place is beautiful! I see SO much potential in the place. It had to have Been magnificent in it's heyday.
The only thing that gives me the skieves is the green paint. That stuff was dangerous back in the day. Full of poison it was. You would need full protective gear and respirators to remove it.

What a lovely house ! Untouched gem of a building , I hope it's left that way and not messed with ? And in such good condition , stunning building ! I watched this vid a few times was transfixed by the place .i live in Northumberland so would love to see it in real .
The new owners do have open days, its not been left as seen in this video, but they are doing as little modifications are possible to retain the look of the original house. It has its own facebook page, so go join and watch for the open days.

Take down some walls??? Those walls aren't made with drywall, and the rooms are already HUGE.
That room in the cellar with the opening in the ceiling that spooked you so much undoubtedly was originally the murder hole or some sort of dungeon. This must have been built on top of an older smaller building.
Yes absolutely, that bit of the building is totally different to every other part, so much older, I really must look up some old maps of the area to see what was there in the years before the house was built

If ever a building needed respect and love put into it it’s this one? I just love it with so much of the original features just take my breath away. I’m sure I saw an orb in one of the rooms when you were searching for the wine cellar? Anyway, great video and thank you for sharing.
13:52 if you pause it just right. In the middle left section of the mirror, the smudges look like a lady's face. One eye is shown, the nose, and mouth. And to the right of the face the smudges look like fingers from her left hand.
In the celler where you didn't like it was a couple of orbs. It wasn't dust partices as dust doesn't just disappear!

I also wonder why American houses still generally have "basements" and British houses nowadays never have. It's funny peculiar as the cellar idea began in Britain in the first place, in Castles, didn't it? 🤔

Hi, a very indepth exploration of Bannockburn house, i really liked the rooms and the different parts built later, is the front door and architecture 17th century?, the scary parts i found was the attic and the 16th century old parts :)

There was a lot of other old stuff, but I was asked to avoid filming certain items, because it would have become a target for burglary and with no one living in the house it unwise to show items, all of which have now been removed. Thanks for watching
