@@soapghostroach core hours is actually a thing with flexible working hours - its the time where you essentially have to start at the latest and can leave at the earliest, for most companies that will be about 0900-1500 where you can pick when you want to start before or after in a given time frame as long as you fulfill hours worked requirements (i.e. 0600-1800). Have never heard it being used with distance working/home office though. There usually is one or two days a week where employees are required to come in, so they dont "lose touch" with all their coworkers and also administrative stuff like paperwork, boss seeing your face again, knowing whats new with the company itself etc., but certain hours every day smells like bullcrap they made up.

Imagine, one week before Christmas, a client for a truck and fuel company is having a meeting. The employee leaves and a completely separate man enters, one of the truckers, having no business inside that part of the facility. He walks up to the female, married client and asks her to sleep with him and offers her money to do so after being rejected the first 4 times.
    The man was immediately fired.

My job apparently had an employee who was regular taking a case of beer without paying. He would do this often, usually several cases at a time, but never so much so that the amount that was taken would get him caught. The reason he finally got caught was because one time the back camera that was by his truck, the one he normally moved so it couldn’t see him, wasn’t moved enough and could clearly seem him taking them. The called him and told him that he was fired. Then he wanted to ask when he could come in to get it final pay, and they told him he wasn’t going to get one. His final pay went towards the stolen beer.
Also to clarify, they were pretty sure it was him, as they began to realize, but they couldn’t prove anything until he forgot to move the camera enough

It's so damn weird to me that in the US there is ZERO security for credit cards. Having tips HANDWRITTEN ON A SLIP OF PAPER then expecting employees (or for that matter businesses) not to steal is hilariously foolish.
For US people: in my home of Canada, they bring a card machine to your table and you add the tip to the bill on the machine itself before you enter your PIN and have the transaction approved (or not approved I suppose). The tip is then *printed* on both your and the business's receipt.

When I worked in retail one of the managers had to fire two workers because they got into a messy fight. They apparently had a long history of not liking each other and one night they got into a heated argument around closing time. I was friendly with both. One of them was a big sassy dude and another was a small young woman. I don’t know who was the aggressor but apparently the big dude slammed the young womans head into one of the register several times and had to be held back by one of the assistant managers (who just happened to be a big buff dude and was having a hard time holding him back.) He wasn’t arrested and there were plenty of witnesses so I assumed he wasn’t the aggressor. I hated retail (especially working in such a ghetto area) but few people made my time enjoyable. I definitely miss him and still remember the last thing he said to me: “I don’t give a fuck, man or woman. I’m bi, I fight both ways.” Laweeed

I'm the graphics designer in an international TV enterprise (for latin america and the spanish talking audience living in the US, with some History Channel shows like American Pickers, Ancient Aliens, etc), and 90% of everything I do is done in After Effects. They were looking for another designer for the night shift, and finally they hired one that just graduated from college. They asked me to train her a little bit and get her know how things are done here. After a little introduction, she had to take a little test about how well she use the program. Then this happens
She: Um..... why is this in english?
    Me:....what?
She: I don't know english, can you please change the language in this computer?
Me: Um... No I can't (we need administrator allowance to change the settings). You don't even know the basics? And besides, it's literally the same as the spanish version.
She: Yes but I like to know what I'm using.
    Me:....you're using "Position"....It's obviously "Posición"
She: yeah, but I don't like it, I want this in spanish.
    Me:....K, brb.
I go to my supervisor and tell him that she doesn't know fucking english.
And he told me that she said she KNEW ENGLISH but she lied.
After that, I went to her again and said
"Look, the supervisor needs to talk to you". And that was the last time I saw her.
Bitch, when you work in an INTERNATIONAL enterprise, you HAVE TO KNOW at least the basics of english, or you're pretty much fucked, also that she lied... I don't know in which college she graduated because in almost every graphics design college, they teach english classes. For fucks sake, man.

Like, for example, if someone knowingly ate my lunch, I'd get pretty annoyed and insist on them buying it back, but if they admitted to it being a mistake and offered to buy it back, I'd forgive them right away, and I'd they were particularly sorry, I might even give them money to buy the lunch back, just sending them to do it.

9:10 I work at a Simon Malls chain mall. They do have “employee parking” which is a blue line that basically outlines the perimeter of the parking lot around the entire mall. It’s not strictly for employees because customers park there all the time. We don’t have parking passes that prove we’re employees. The mall constantly puts up signs saying “customers come first, employees must park in the blue line or the will be towed at your expense.” Needless to say, that mall can suck my left nut because they’ve never towed me in the 6 years I’ve worked there for not parking in the blue line. Company requires all accidents of company vehicles to be followed up with a drug and alcohol test.
Co-worker, lab assistant, drives company vehicle into the back end of another vehicle at high speed totaling the vehicle.
Co-worker gets tested. Yup, positive for pot.
Manager says co-worker can no longer use company vehicle.
Co-worker goes ballistic that he should not be penalized for his pot use since it's legal in our state now (OR).
Manager is taking in co-worker's behavior over this simple thing about not being able to use the company vehicle, and says he will take some time to consider my co-worker's complaints.
Lab manager is requested by manager to pull all of co-worker's driving locations in conjunction with drop-off and pick-up points for samples for the past three months of his employment.
Manager brings co-worker back in for meeting. Goes over the points that do not line up with work-related stops.
Co-worker says he used the company vehicle for grocery shopping, fishing, and drove the company vehicle home. All of those are red-flags of misuse.
Manager decides to let my co-worker go because of his drug use, misuse of company vehicle.
Co-worker goes ballistic again on Lab Manager because Lab Manager is just sitting there listening and watching this clown show he's putting on.
Co-worker storms out shouting profanities and slams front door.

Not a manager, but at my last job at the casino...
While I working as a custodian, on a Tuesday night in 2019 right before Independence Day, there's these two coworkers of mine (individual contractors who weren't actual company employees like us) who would frequently call in work. On the day they said they supposedly "can't make it", I was sweeping the gaming floor and wiping down machines when lo and behold, those same women came in. They both used the bathroom, but one of them told me not to tell anyone they were here even though all of my other coworkers saw them---plus, they were all on surveillance camera, so even if the supervisor asked me, I wouldn't get away with lying about it.
It was only 90 minutes left until the end of my shift and my radio went off. One of my other coworkers called the supervisor to meet him elsewhere on the floor. I wasn't sure what it was until Friday when he told me those two were immediately fired right on the spot the next day, though Wednesdays and Thursdays were my work weekends. So on Wednesday, when they finally showed up for work, I heard the supervisor simply told them to just go home and not come back.
Fast forward almost two weeks later... both of them returned as company workers. One is on graveyard shift as a custodian while the other is a line cook on certain days and swing schedules. Long story short: They got fired from their contractor jobs but suddenly came back despite being told not to come back.

He would then use one of his other tables who paid with a credit card and swipe the card for that table and the table who paid with cash so the computer showed that every table had been cashed out. Once credit card users started calling in saying they had been charged twice, management figured out what he was doing and fired him. No criminal actions were taken.

When I worked as a mall security officer one of our duties was to help people that had locked their keys in the car. (We had professional kits and off duty police officers were there often.)
One day there was a particularly stubborn lock that none of us could open for an employee of the mall and since several of us including the officers and supervisors had tried and failed, she asked if we could just break the window for her. Well do to company policy and insurance we could not but we told her if she wanted to break the window that she could. The not very bright guard then offered her the fire extinguisher from the back of the security vehicle to use to break the window. After lightly tapping the window a couple of times the girl started crying and the guard that would soon be fired picked up the extinguisher and with supervisors and police officers telling him not to do it and that he would lose his job if he did, puts the extinguisher right through the window. Fired immediately.

The waiter that added a five dollar tip to everyone at a table?
That is called a "gratuity charge," if customers don't tip. Party of five leaving a $0.15 tip each? Service gratuity gets added to the *Bill* not the tip, but the gratuity goes to the server, that is if the owner knows the law and implements it.
The place I worked had a mandatory gratuity charge for groups over five people(small building) that was $25.00(mandatory if the server wanted to add it that is.)
Plenty of people get pissed until I show them the total tip of $4.50 they left on a table that, before they split the bill, payed for over $400 worth of food/service.
After I showed them the math politely, and people realize the mistake they usually would tip again just for the rudeness.

I didn't fire this guy because I knew he would quit soon anyway. I worked in fast food and we had a manager who was stealing right and left. They caught him and removed him from the store without even letting him collect his personal belongings. It was kind of funny because one of the things he left behind was a comic book from the library, way overdue. I returned it. A few years later a kid in his early 20's applies for a job and he has the same (very unusual) last name, so I asked him, "Are you So-and-so's son?"
"Yeah, but I don't even talk to my dad." He obviously knew why we had fired his father.
Against my better judgement we hired him as a closer. His first night was working with me. This is the conversation we had around 11 PM:
"Hey, man, is there anyway I could leave early? My girlfriend is pregnant and she has a doctor's appointment in half an hour. She could go by herself, but I really want to do this stuff with her, you know. I want to be a good dad. My dad was never a good dad, but I want to be a good dad."
"So . . . your girlfriend has an OBGYN appointment at 11:30 at night?"
    "Yes."
I just stared into his eyes waiting for him to realize what he had said. Nothing!
    "OK, you go ahead."
    He quit 2 days later.

Stealing from the company or costumers is one of the very, very few things that can even very easily get you fired on the spot in germany where firing isn't easy in general and the clean process takes at least 3 months of full pay. Forging receipts is such a heavy and obviously intentional violation of trust that i have hard time imagining a valid defense. In the legal system that's probably even worse then regular stealing. So if that just get's you fired you are actually lucky. The forged receipts are also very solid evidence in court. So your best chances are just cooperating and hoping that none sues you.

I have a carpet cleaning business and I dropped off an employee to a job and helped him get set up, then left him to go to the bank, on my return an hour or so after I walked in to the room and saw he was finished, and done an excellent job, the very dirty carpet was now white, the machine was cleaned and emptied and all the cables were neatly wrapped up. The carpet looked beautiful but there was one problem, when we picked the machine up to load it into the van I found that he hadn’t cleaned under the machine and there was a perfect rectangle outline of the machine on the dirtiest part of the carpet. This was the last of almost daily instances of stupid stuff like this happening. Dopey Steve had to go.

    I'm not a manager but...
    I work at racing stable for a well know strapper, (your only hints are his youngest brother has down syndrome and his youngest sister is champion jockey) anyways, my job is to clean out the boxes of poop, lay out fresh bedding for the horses, make sure their waters are clean and fresh. One day, we had two new girls come in and it was a muggy, rainy day and they were suppose to help me with the boxes, I only saw them both about once or twice before they completely disappeared on me. To give you an idea on how much there was to be done, there are at least 5 sets of boxes, each with varing numbers and different names;
    Inside: 18 boxes.
    Back: 6 boxes.
Summer Yards: 12 boxes (at the time, additional ones being built).
    Taj: 12 boxes.
    Siberia: 3 boxes.
This list exculdes the two 'bullrings', 'holding yards' and the triangle paddock.
When the handlers take out horses to the paddocks or up top, we have to get the paddock horses done first and they don't wait for us to be finished with the boxes before putting them back in unless we're already standing in a box and are almost finished with it. Now it was wet, humid and more than once did my wheelbarrow tip over, I was rushing around to get as much as I could do since the two new girls vanished on me. I couldn't get everything done before my shift was over and ended up leaving a shit show (literally) for the afternoon staff. The next day I was working with familiar and dedicated faces, while over at Siberia, I was telling my co-worker about the day before and he told me what happened to the two girls. They both left early because one said her hands were cold and the other was complaining about blisters on her hands. My jaw nearly hit the floor, I thought out loud 'What useless bitches!!!' and my co-worker laughed. I mean, really!! You don't take up a job as a stable hand and not expect you hands to get roughed up!

I have a lot of these, but this one always just makes me chuckle, due to the sheer stupidity. I was a manager at a call center for a big cell phone company. I had a desk in the middle of a ‘pod’ which was basically just an area with 16 desks, all surrounding mine. Oftentimes we’d have open desks if people were out for the day/had been let go or quit, whatever. The company had a rule that anyone working overtime had to work inside a pod with a supervisor on duty, in case they needed help and to make sure they weren’t hanging up on people. So anyway, one day this dude who I’d never met before comes in asking to work OT. It was a big call center, so this wasn’t uncommon at all. It just so happened that one of the open desks was the closest to mine, opposite the pod entrance. Everything was fine for about an hour. Then I hear him talking to a customer who was clearly pissed. He was doing pretty good. Then after what I thought was just a little pause in the convo, I hear him say, clear as day “fucking cunt...”. I put him in aux and once he finished his next call I told him I heard what he said. He played dumb. I told him he needs to go home now and I’ll cancel his OT. He still played dumb but reluctantly left. I emailed the call center manager and she asked “did you hear it on a recording or in person?” I told her I heard it in person. She told me to see if it popped up on any of his call recordings. So I look through his last 2 calls and sure enough, there it was, at the very beginning of his last call. Apparently the lady he was arguing with had hung up after chewing him out. Now, it was busy at the time and hold times were high. That meant we’d get a lot of requests to call customers back, instead of waiting on hold. The reason I bring that up is because his next call just so happened to be a call-back request. Those would prompt the agent about the customer’s name and info and allow them to press 2 to call the customer back. Buuuut, what he apparently didn’t know (and a lot of people didn’t know) even though they weren’t techincally talking to the customer yet, they were still being recorded the entire time. So I sent his direct sup (obviously she wasn’t working that day but wanted to let her know when she got in why this guy wouldn’t be showing up), and the call center manager the call ID and he was fired right away. The call center manager told me later she just called him and told him not to come back. A few days later his sup came over to tell me that he’d been doing stupid stuff that by itself wasn’t grounds for firing but she could tell he was going that route. We just couldn’t believe how dumb he was for doing it. A lot of people got fired for stuff like that but this one was the funniest.
TL;DR - Employee called customer a fucking cunt, I heard it and it was recorded on a call monitor, employee was essentially fired on the spot.

Stole from other departments when they brought their cash and receipts in, the other departments kept getting in trouble for their “poor “ bookkeeping. Finally a person came in to show their receipt after they were billed for something they had already paid for. Turns out she was also inventing companies to be paid and pocketing the money. The system was revamped and she was fired and charged. Turns out she had been fired from three other jobs for doing the same things but her family made good on the missing money so weren’t allowed to tell why she was let go but my boss wanted to be able to tell people so she was prosecuted even after her family repaid the money we could prove she took. We all thought it was a lot more but no proof.

I'm not a manager, but I witness both parts of this two part story. PART 1: I work at a mall department store and it had a really sweet employee discount, but apparently that wasn't enough for this one former employee. One evening when I worked in one department and she worked in another she came over to my area looking to buy something, and I checked the employee price for her and asked that she check out with me because she was nice and I liked talking to her. Later that evening, the closing manager had instructed both myself and the other male employee working to inspect her "purchases" turns out in this merchandise item, there was another one hiding inside it. She was asked to produce her receipt to display proof of purchase, and she was scrambling through her phone trying to find her emailed receipt which didn't exist. She got pissed off from being stressed and stormed out. I thought that due to that due to the nature of retail and working with the public that she had some unruly customers. I was wrong. PART 2: This girl's final day of working, we were both scheduled to work in the same department, which was one of my least favorite departments in the store to work in. Some company big wig comes over and escorts her over to the office. Days later I inquire with someone above my head about the incident and he instructed me to "do my research" after a quick google search I find out that she had been arrested for a series of crimes including theft and embezzlement. Because of her background it is one group of people that I already perceive as entitled and don't like them anyways due to dealing with people of said group in other customer service positions. She is one of many reasons why I don't like her people.

It was a new employee. The vast majority of anywhere, even restaurants, will have new employees on a probationary period to see if said employee is going to be reliable and fit well with the company. So it wasn't the fact that he called out, but the fact that he was on his probationary period, called saying he had something life threatening, then proceeded to go to the beach because he didn't want to work. That's the reason the bloke got a well deserved firing.

He owed money to a girl in the store and when she asked for it back he reacted by taking the smoke break area ashtray (a bbq pit with a load of cat litter inside) and dumped the contents all over said girl's pickup truck.
Told off manager and said manager told him to just get the hell out
