Wow, this actually worked for me when nothing else did. I even tied the cable off to a tree, put the winch in freespool and backed up and it still wouldn't budge, but somehow this worked! Thanks so much!!!

I’m not the ones who normally comments, but this trick helped me out in less than 10 seconds.
I thought I was going to have to tear
apart the whole winch, but this tip saved me a whole bunch of time.
    Thanks a lot!

Could you do a video on choosing the right winch, like you did with the wheels?
And could you do a comparison on a cheap winch and a namebrand like Warn or Superwinch?

In the oil field we use a cable clamp, that can be set anywhere on the line with one hand. This might be useful for someone. Also I have used it to hold 3000#. Some of our lines are 18000’ long & need to be rapped straight & tight. But only one idiot to mess up the wire. When wire crossed over another wrap & pulled tight. This under cuts the bottom wire, weaking it. Avoid loops at cost, this kink is weak. Hope this helps

Great tip. Been watching your videos for years. Love them and have learned a lot from you. Was thinking, zip tie the cables together would give the appearance and effect of a jamb for the video.

you should also show how to mend both pieces back together, just in case the failure happens way down the line. Just as easy as what you just posted. Great vid though, truly love your work Matt.

That's pretty much what I've found as well. You don't have to be nearly as gentle with winch line as they make out...which is the way it should be really.

A free tip from an isuzu guy... To reel your line in with some tension... Drill through a bowling ball. Install an eye bolt. Now you have a weight to hook to the end of the line. Makes it easier to feed the line back in correctly.

Or hook the winch to a tree or another car and winch in neutral on flat ground

It's funny that in the 20 or so years I used a metal wire cable on my Warn It only got bound up three or four times that I can remember, but since I changed over to a synthetic rope cable it seems like it gets bound up every second or third time I use the darn thing. I can't seem to get the rope tight enough on the drum to not get bound up. I like the synthetic rope for it's weight and the wire "splinters" I haven't gotten form it! But I have gotten that damn thing so bound up several times that I thought I was going to have to cut it off before screwing with it for entirely too long before it came loose and was usable again. Any tricks or tips for that?

Hi guys, I'd seen a video a while back, I could swear it was one of yours but I could he mistaken, showing how to wind synthetic rope onto a winch and it showed some kind of under wrap trick thing, now I can't find that video in my history for the life of me, however I'd just seen some video for a bubba wrap, or something like that, which is basically the same thing except for that you have to buy their piece, it's not using the rope you already have to install. If you guys know what I'm talking about and can point me to the video showing the trick, or make a short video showing it, I'd appreciate it.
All I remember is they wrapped the rope around the drum a couple times and somehow tucked it under the wraps, then bolted it down, But i don't recall the process.
Thanks in advance to anyone that knows what I'm trying to get at and can help.

you blokes might have 44 inch tyres buy damn your light years behind us in winches
ditch the cable and get some 11 mm good quality rope
and they don't like changing directions on the spot well high mounts don't when there at full speed going 1 way and you click opposite direction hurts the brushes
otherwise great video my navigator regularly has to unbind my rope during race stages if we have to do a long winch with a side pull
