    Hi Mel. It looks like holding the rod is the way to go instead of leaving it in the holder. Got my Team Spike stickers today and they are already on the boat.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  Рік тому +1

      How good is that Steve! Holding the rod is the best method for me, very successful with my method of fishing. Hey when I release the new spikes stickers please message me and I’ll send you one for free. I’m not the happiest with the last lot they made me.

    Hi Mel,
    Australian salmon is a good feed when bled and floured fillets quickly shallow fried and served with salad or chips, or in a fish curry. Do you use braid or mono for main line?
    Thanks again for another entertaining video. You are one keen fisher and inspiration to many people who watch your videos.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  Рік тому

      Hey Fevzi! You know, I have still not tried to eat a salmon. I really should. Thank you. Thanks for enjoying my videos I really do appreciate it when you give me feedback! I use 16lb braid for main line, I will be going to 12lb soon. Brand is Sunline Siglon 8 strand.

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ivan, yes always fish the bottom although I do heat a lot of mid water hook ups on the drop using this method. The floor is my fave place to target ♥️

  • @catco01
    @catco01 Рік тому +1

    Hey Mel, you reckon your half pilly rig will work on fluro braid or will I need a longer trace to not spook the fish?

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  Рік тому +1

      Hey Catco I use Fluoro carbon leader from my braid to the #halfpilly rig. I don’t recommend connecting the braid to the rig directly because you will get less hits and risk losing fish if your braid hits any rocks/reef

    • @catco01
      @catco01 Рік тому +1

      @@spikesfishing yeh righto, so are you using two swivels or do you tie your fluro to your main line with an fg knot or similar?

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  Рік тому +1

      @@catco01 I use the uni knot to connect my braid to my leader

    Epic video Mel! It takes a lot of guts , determination, dedication and a touch madness to go out in those conditions😂 You put in the effort and got the reward and I hope you won the comp -you deserve it after all that ! The deformed flattie looked like a blue spot and they have weird shaped heads - well compared to a dusky I reckon they do . There are a couple of things a fisho should never skimp on - safety gear , hooks and wet weather gear - don’t ask me how I know just trust me on this one !
    Thanks for the super effort to make the videos, the way you make them it almost feels like I’m sitting in your boat watching you fish 👍👍👍

    • @spikesfishing
      @spikesfishing  Рік тому

      Hey Ian thanks heaps for understanding the background work and effort it takes to do these videos. I do appreciate it. I did win the comp so that’s cool. The flatty was a dusky and recaptured by my friend which is cool. I think it’s been in a net or could even be just natural deformity. I hope you keep enjoying my adventures and thanks 😊

      @@spikesfishing hey Mel yesterday I went to captain cook bridge and there was no boat on the water , an old Ozzie man told me not to take the boat to water because of the wind and I didn't listen to him , I just passed the bridge towards to botany and my motor brake down , I used my Watersnake, I was close to the ramp but as a stupid I didn't go to the ramp I decided to catch fish and when everything start to get worst I try to move to the ramp but Watersnake wasn't strong enough , I had a look at the propeller there was a fishing line on it and I try to get rid of it but I didn't notice that the boat was moving to the rocks on the side till I heard a big sound from my boat , as soon I hit to rocks on the side a wave came and I was very close to flip over , I tried to use my anchor to make it immobilize but the rope on the anchor chain brake off , I called the water police and they moved me close to the ramp and I didn't want their big boat to go to the ramp that's why I said I'm ok just maybe 100 meter before the ramp , I said I can use my Watersnake now , We checked the Watersnake it was working but as soon they left it stopped working and spark start to come from the battery , I disconnected the battery then the water police came back ,they seen me not moving and they pulled me to the ramp , when I was disconnecting the battery I stepped on my glasses and brake it as well , I really had big actions yesterday and the problem with the motor is the only 3-4cm pin broken on the propeller shaft , because of that small thing it was so bustling
