    Excellent and thorough review. Now with NIKON purchasing RED. Definitley auto focus cine lenses coming soon. Exciting times for story tellers and film makers. Can't wait to see the YELLOW NIKOMODO X. Greater quality, lower prices and better options.

    Great cine zooms! Parfocal? at that price point? I’m sold.
    I wonder how they look on a 12k camera, hint, hint...

    these are cool!
    I feel they still take about the same space as a set of vintage cine mod lenses in your case, and those will have the advantage of weight for G&R situations.
    Sure for in field docs is cool to be able to change length but aside from that I think that is only cool if you are into zooms lenses, because for artistic zooms 50 to 125 is not long enough.

    • @michael_dalessandro_lena

      The 50-100 Sigma has terrible focus breathing. The Sigmas are also much sharper and feel much more sterile in my opinion,... perhaps better suited for docs.

    AF for Cine Lenses should be hybrid. The camera can face detect, measure/find focus point (phase AF etc.), why not calibrate that to an external motor and have a "user preset" in the camera for the lens. But that needs support from camera manufacturers...

    • @dude1diligence
      @dude1diligence 4 роки тому

      @@KingdomThoughtLeaders I think X mount is quite impossible to adapt with MFT mount based on what I know. Unfortunately because I would like that too. There is a possibility with E mount though because there is such an adaptor, but I think it must be used in APSC mode with Sony or clear image zoom. But Im not sure if this particular lens allows.

  • @ElChamoRios

    So I bought this lens thanks partially to this video but one thing that wasn't really addressed is how to properly switch from PL to EF mount. It seems easy at first because, technically, it's just unscrewing one mount and screwing on the other. But there are no instructions on how to make sure that the flange has been corrected and I immediately saw that my focus markers became wildly inaccurate with the EF mount on my BMPCC 6K (when focused on an object 20 ft away, the lens marker said it was 6 ft away). Several emails to DZO have not given me the right answer (the first response told me to use +0.3 shim, which didn't work) and I've been left to trial and error.
    I'm curious to hear what shims y'all use with the EF mount to ensure accurate focus marks

      Did you find an answer here? I have bought it now for the Komodo, but I have no idea what to do when changing to EF mount

    Yes, Arriflex PL (Positive Locking) mounts were great.... particularly back in 1972 when they first came out by Arriflex. But this here now is 2020. Just about all newer mounts are better.... particularly the new Arri mount. Arri PL is okay, but it is 48 years old. On with the show, folks.

    if autofocus is good for face-tracking, and doesnt “search” and looks organic and natural, its ideal for steadicam shots especially with a skeleton crew, no crew, fast-moving subjects such as race cars or animals. it just makes sense. when u have a pro crew on a pro set, u probably dont need it. no snobbery required on this subject.
