I ac for a dop and we've been working with this lens quite some time now, it's a absolute beast. Before buying this lens we ran a fiction film in the summer "run and gun" style with the fujinon 18-55 wich was less sharp. The shinning of the fujinon lenses are by far superrior but I'd rather lose 10minutes of shinning than losing image quality. Also for the beginners buying the entire set will cover you for most cases.

@@doug_EX they're not too expensive for me I have been working at Major Studios since 1999( primarily Warner Brothers). Instead of focusing on me let's focus on the word affordable seriously tired of UA-camrs that do not work in the industry but give out advice as if it is certain truth. I had someone else comment to me every Speck of every lens he knows about, congratulations you spent all your money on camera lenses that tells me that you are not actually working on a professional level and if this is something that you do to make videos for clients as a freelancer. The camera Department we get a budget and then we go to a production house and rent the equipment 95% of the time there are very few people that come with their own gear. UA-camrs have to start saying what they know and not what they think. I dare say that for $2,000 you could easily find an old set of 16 mm film lenses and have them retrofitted let's say to an Canon mount and still be able to afford two really really nice Zeiss lenses, and that's it that's the only point I was getting across is that $2,000 for the average person that is going to watch a video on UA-cam is a lot of money. I would suggest they get something used that is of similar quality and learn how to tell a story with focal length before they blow their load on one lens.
someone else said professionals would buy these lenses because they would make the money back and while for some people that is true I personally know very few people that would do this because it doesn't make any sense at the end of the day when you're going to get a budget for shooting. unless you are a niche director looks a like a David Lynch and you're going to bring your own equipment do you know how much paperwork and pain in the butt it is going to be to film a professional movie with the cameraman's equipment that just sounds like an insurance nightmare and I defy anyone to name one movie that made it into the theaters produced by Fox, Warner Brothers, Universal that the cameraman or Director of Photography supplied the camera and the lenses.. unless it was a movie by a nice director.... you won't because lenses are expensive and that's why we rent them as professionals this is my whole point $2,000 is expensive and I know that is not the most expensive because I have personally shot with lenses that are 10 times the price but I have also DP'd music videos where we used far cheaper lenses and you would never be able to tell
