Videos and classes are the best way to forge it forward. watching how seasoned smiths make the metal move is helping a new generation of smiths get right into the craft without hurting themselves
I know it's been a while since the video came out but yes I want to see more videos like this. I don't watch videos from a certain British Blacksmith anymore because I feel that I don't learn anything and this person does very little actual blacksmithing now. I feel like you''re picking up where he left off thanks!
Hi Daniel. i have watched a significantly large number of blacksmithing videos. your tong making is by no small margin the best.. i had a go at my own tongs today.. maybe not quite hot enough, was very hard work and i don't mind hard work.
I do enjoy seeing the step-by-step videos. Being so very new to this craft, it just builds up my "memory shop" so I can do the work without having to go back and forth all the time.
extreamally enjoyable and educational vidoes my friend , nothing better than watching someone draw down extra thick stock to make tongs, except maybe doing it yourself lol. thanks for all your efforts in producing quality videos.
Just catching up on some iv'e missed enjoying them all keep up the content scored 8 sets of a blacksmith who works for a company making marine shackles and chains 200mm bar he was making new ones so I will re-purpose the ones he gave me new rivets etc
Definitely want the content, but often I am getting lost because all my forgings to this point are by my hand and hammer. All of the power tooling is VERY COOL, but impractical in another way for me personally, but I still watch because it is very helpful stuff. Hope that makes sense, and thank you for what you do.
I've really enjoyed this series on tonight making, you have done a great job. As I am really concentrating on building up my tong selection right now, I appreciate all the information. Please keep it up
Great video! For drawing out the reins, try using a fuller of about 3/4" radius. It is mush faster than with the horn and also less physically demanding cause it is faster :)
Yes, really enjoy your videos. Especially the tongs series. They're very useful! Lots of tips I will be using. Also, ignore the dislike. A few other guys ( eg. Jason and James) always get just one on their vids as soon as they upload. It's just a Troll! Look forward to the next one. And also to see who will win the very nice hammer you made! 😉😆
Thanks for the videos. I enjoy your explanations. I learned to draw out using the far edge and near edge of the anvil and find it very efficient. Why arent you using that as a technique?
Matthew DeGraffenried well its the way I was tought. I have tried the edge of the anvil technique and found it give almost the same results. It does require anvil set up and particular hammers and it also limates some of the work I can do if I have that set up! It's a good technique and works well but I like the brick. Thank you for the comment look forward to more!!!!
A thought about brushing off the scale on reins. Perhaps forge the scale in, then scrub it out in the end.? Might give a bit of grip, like knurling on modern pliers. Smooth, but not to smooth, ya might say. I'm liking this series Dan! My tong making is definately not spot on
I noticed as well, that leaving a bit of beef, near the boss, and the ends of the reins thinner, would give more heft and leverage. I LOVE that concept!

Definitely enjoying these videos Dan, keep up the good work :) I'd be interested in seeing what tooling you could make with coil springs.

Hey Dan,
Great instructional vid.
Would like to see some footage on any commission work you do.
Keep it up cobbler.
No I don't enjoy them dan that would be an understatement I cannot lie about how much I love seeing how to do things in an easier way

Improve the sound. You voice is hard to hear and I want to hear what you are saying. Like your demos a lot.
I have a better camera and sound equipment I'm sure you will find newer videos better quality. Thanks for the feed back
