Does anyone know what it means on the bottle under supplemental facts of a 500 mg Magnesium Gylcinate tablet where it says: Magnesium Glycinate 500mg, then underneath it says Magnesium (from Magnesium Glycinate)150 mg, 36% Daily Value. Does that mean I would have to take 3 tablets to get 450mg and the RDA of actual Magnesium Glycinate? Or just 1 tablet is enough? I am not clear on this. If someone can explain I'd appreciate it.
@@MyDogSteppedOnaBeee I'm basing this according to the video beginning at 9:28. I read that to be how much elemental magnesium (150 mg) is in the tablet. So, two should put you at the low end of the typical recommened daily requirement (300-400 mg).

And then again, some believe that skullcap herb and ashwagandha helps with seizures. For me personally, magnesium and sodium in relatively high dosages does the trick.

nobody can figure my health out at the doctors they keep sending me to every buddy that don’t want to deal with me I guess , so I decided to diagnose myself and I truly believe I need magnesium and or potassium. Who knows what else because the labs keep coming back fine could you please tell me how much magnesium a 60 year old female should have per day if they feel their deficient with muscle cramps and numerous other symptoms but then I talked to my doctor and they say if I take too much ,, (I only get potassium out of the food I eat) no supplements ) that can cause muscle cramps, but I don’t take too much. they’re basing it on my labs which isn’t measured in the cell. Please help by giving me some numbers thank you right now I bought kal high absorbency magnesium glycinate it’s like $27 a bottle. It says Chelated but it does say bisglycinate in parentheses. Can someone please be honest with me if I’ve got the correct kind that will help me? Thank you for your time and efforts.
When I started taking Magnesium , I didnt know wich form was better . I was getting tachycardias at night while asleep . I began taking Magnesium Oxide and i felt a huge difference , It brouht my life back .. Now i take magnesium Glycinate and i can feel no anxiety , no heart accelerating in my sleep .. Its a miracle
Thank you for sharing precious information, now am on Mg oxide & now ordered for Mg glycinate , am 63 from India didn't have much knowledge about Mg accidentally stumbled while studying Vit D3 & Vit K2 mk7
The fact that I see a Tablet form listed as a best brand makes me question her judgmt - also Puritan's Pride & Spring Valley?? They are low quality, look at all the additives like stearates, color/dyes & polydextrose &other things.
My wife's magnesium got so low 0.6 in the middle of the night she had a seizure sent her to the hospital for a week we were so lucky she lived through the mag drop. Today every 6 months she gets a blood test for magnesium.
...James...blood test is not the best for magnesium...should be a tissue test which is more $$ but much more reliable. Why not take a supplement like mag. glycinate or malate. ? We are all low on magnesium...it is not in our food anymore due to over farming which removes minerals from the soil, where magnesium comes from.
No we suspect it had to do with her having a right hemicolectomy Her neurologist and nephrologist could come up with any answers, it left her with permanent kidney damage.
Great video, thank you!! I have RLS, and have suffered with it my whole life (I'm mid 50's now), but horribly keeping me from falling asleep, and waking me up all night for the last 20 years. I read that Mg can help, but I was using the wrong form. A friend recently told me that her Dr. recommended Glycinate, so I switched, and ohhhhhhhhh man! I'm averaging 7-8 hours of sleep after taking it for about 3 weeks now! Not one Dr I have ever seen about this has even mentioned Mg., let alone Glycinate. I tried to research, and ultimately purchased Pure Encapsulations, and I'm so glad to see that it made your list of a great option! I feel like a human again!
Thank you for such a detailed and quality guide! I’ve probably watched 15+ videos about Magnesium supplements, mostly learning about different types, and you are the first to explain what Chelated and Elemental mean. Those seem like pretty important pieces of information since non-chelated could mean that the supplement contains forms that you are trying to avoid. I’m kind of baffled that the others didn’t mention that.
Thank you so much. This information is important -- I'm a 78 yo disabled senior whose magnesium levels are usually low. Back to taking my MG supplements. Great program.
You name off some of the foods highest in oxalate which binds to minerals and blocks them from the digestive system. I had to stop eating those vegetables and seeds to stop the horrible joint pain they were causing because of that oxalate.
Wow! That was one of the best extensive overview of magnesium in around 15 minutes or less! However, I think you missed the opportunity to explain the importance of taking D3 plus K2, with magnesium (glycinate); and how D3, helps with the absorption of the magnesium
Thank-You Doctor. This is by far, the most through and comprehensive informational magnesium video I've seen. In addition, you come across to me, as more genuine and ethical than others I've seen.
My use of Magnesium Theronate has seemed to help me with my memory... which really is needed in my job, I am 63. It has really helped my 87 yr. old mother with her ability to interact and lessen her depression, maybe decision making as well.
I have a BAD problem with brain fog, where I must take a nap to clear the fog. The brain fog does affect recall, as well as the ability to lay down new memories while the brain fog is occurring. I now take Magnesium Theronate, and I sleep better at night, take less naps, and have much better brain function. I am now consistently waking up before the alarm. My doctor found I had low vitamin D level, and I started taking vitamin D a year prior to Magnesium Theronate. It may be the combo that helps, but I know it is working.
My doctor recommended MagMind Magnesium L-Theronate for my memory problems and it was incredible. My doctor was very specific about the brand and I have been using for years. I too am in my 60’s and until I took it always had poor memory from birth. I worked around my memory problems by doing other things to help remember. My experience is that my short term memory is significantly better and more memories get to my long term memory. This is only one use case. MagMind isn’t cheap, but for me well worth it. Please check with your doctor before starting MagMind.
I just stumbled on your site. I'm happy to follow you. You're very knowledgeable, you explain in layman's terms what happens inside the body and you give the good and bad effects of medications plus recommendations of the best brands. I'm so impressed that I'd use you as my primary doctor -- and that's something i don't say to many. I'm looking forward to more of your videos. Thank you for helping all of us, out here in the void.
You did not mention Magnesium Malate or Magnesium Turate. Both of these forms do Not Cause loose Bowels. Magnesium is needed in the cell so that potassium can be absorbed into the cell. Otherwise if there is not enough magnesium inside the cell…the potassium will just circulate outside of the cell. Heart attacks are mainly caused by low levels of both magnesium AND potassium. Magnesium is needed for the assimilation of Vitamin D which protects our immune system and heart and vital organs.
Thank you for sharing this information. I've been digging into the magnesium and potassium deficiencies. It mainly just because I have PCOS and severe acne at the age of 41. I've been dealing with severe acne for about 10 years now. I have slowly added vitamin D3 plus K2, vitamin b complex, probiotics and vitamin b9 focused. I was looking into the different types of magnesium and became more confused about which one would be best for my situation. I do have heart palpitations and have had them since my acne began. I've had kidney stones and lithotropsy which did not take. I've pulled back on soda and stick with water and coffee a few times during the week. I know you're not a doctor but I'm trying to see if maybe someone can help me out with finding out what the best vitamins and minerals to take that would actually be beneficial that are bioflavable and foods to stay away from/ eating the right foods. Thank you and have a blessed day❤
My perception is that magnesium, citrate for me, helps me fall asleep and the dreams are typically pleasant. I do 250mg to 400mh depending on how hard I’ve been working out
Do you take it AM or PM? Some other doc on YT mentioned that taking PM can actually harm sleep. But he didn't mention what type of magnesium supplement.
I'm an avid cyclist and where a Whoop that tracks my vitals 24/7. I had a severe 70 point decline in my HRV over two months that perplexed me. HRV is one of the key indicators or nervous system balance and recovery. I tried stopping training, diet, titatrating medications, etc, etc. with no change to the downward trend. I then tried magnesium supplementation and saw a full return to a normal HRV after one day of supplemation. I was obviously deficient and it made a huge difference.
Thank you for this information. I’m a big fan of magnesium after visiting with my neurologist a few years ago. No other doctors even think about magnesium deficiency. I’ve simply taken the Nature Made magnesium oxide and test for it occasionally. I can tell if I have too much in my system as my dreams become vivid. Then I stop for a while. I notice it does help my memory function and muscle and nerve function. It helps keep my blood pressure down along with Losartan. I’ve been without it lately and my legs are cramping frequently. My order is in the mail today.
Soil is depleted of most nutrient and vitamins, and it’s not a new discovery. I began reading and hearing about it in 2001, and I’m sure there is evidence before that. Good source of supplements have become necessary to help with what are becoming chronic daily discomforts. Thank you for posting! It’s nice to hear it from a doctor. Be well!
Thank you for the detailed explanation of magnesium supplements. There were two important points that I appreciated: getting enough elemental mag as opposed to just getting so many mgs of mag listed on the bottle and getting a brand that uses chelated mag instead of combining mag plus glycine, great stuff not mentioned on many mag videos. Actually very few brands give the elemental amount on their ingredients, NOW does provide elemental mag amount, 100mg, highest I've come across. Thanks
I had blood tests done in relation to my experiencing cramps, fasciculations, and loss of sleep. Mag glycinate seemed to have cured this. I'm glad this video supported my results.
My chiropractor told me to use magnesium a while back for balancing to resolve moments of sadness and to help with stress especially when prolinged periods.
Wow what a professional presentation. Right to the point and understandable. Thank you What about magnesium oil? I struggle with process through my stomach
I take Doctors best magnesium glycinate and big believer that it changed my life. I started years ago after reading some research on magnesium deficiency and migraines and epilepsy. I had epilepsy as a kid which type had changed over the years where they couldnt tell me why i had it and was put on medicines. I stopped having seizures as and adult, but then started having 3-4 migraines per week. My migraines could be controlled with otc pain relievers if i would take them when auras started and my vision blurred and would see cracked light. After starting take the magnesium, the migraines stopped. If i forget to take the supplements or reduce my level, i start having the auras and blurred vision that starts the migraine. I suspect my epilepsy as a kid was due to magnesium deficiency but cant prove it now. I have not had any seizures for years and am not on any seizure meds. I also happened to have teeth sensitivity where i could not eat any sweets or ice where it would hurt the nerve if i ate too much. Dentist said i had no cavities and it was due to getting older. After starting the magnesium for the migraines, i realized that the teeth sensitivity also disappeared and i believe that its related to taking the magnesium too.
Other than seizures, I have everything that you just described. Can you tell me what kind of Magnesium you take and what dose? I'll discuss it with my Dr. in December at my next appointment. Would really love to hear back from you. Ty. 😊
@curiousc9259 I take Doctors Best High Absorption Magnesium, 2 tablets (total 200 MG) before I go to bed. The suggested dose is actually 400mg a day and I used to take that but was nervous about taking too much, in case I started to be able to get from other sources, so when I cut back, noticed how my body reacted to the dosage. I could tell with getting the migraine auras. When I first researched which magnesium to take I found that certain supplements do not get absorbed and are like taking nothing, so I wanted to pick one that would work. This supplement states it is 100% chelated lysinate glycinate, which I think I've seen others note that's what helps the body absorb it, though I don't know the science behind it. I first tried the magnesium on my own since my Dr's didn't seem to think my migraines were too much of an issue since I could control the pain with otc medicine like ibuprofen or Tylenol gel fast release. I didn't have to have the prescription migraine medicine, so they really didn't suggest anything to help it, even though I was having them 2-3 times a week. I have since changed primary Dr's, and have told my new Dr what I am doing and they are very encouraging to keep it up and have my levels tested and monitored.

I’ve experienced migraines for 32 years and epilepsy for 20. Knew about magnesium but because I’ve tried so many different medications, I was apprehensive about trying anything that didn’t work. At one point, the Jefferson Headache Clinic gave me Indomethacin and I had to be rushed to the ER with severe side effects. ER Doc threw the meds in the trash. I finally purchased some Magnesium Oxide after seeing so many people speaking positive about the effects. Only on day 2 but I have high hopes. Had to subscribe . Thank you🙏🏽
I appreciate the reference list in the description; i wanted to look at a few of the articles. I use magnesium sulfate (IV form) in my icu for post cabg patients and I’m curious about oral versus IV forms and the differences (if any) in their effects. Great video! Clear and concise
ZMA: Zinc and Magnesium Aspartate. I have hardly ever been without it for over 10 years now. No matter what brand's ZMA you buy, they're usually 3 capsules per serving, and I only take one or two capsules before bed otherwise it's too much Magnesium for me. The only supplement I never let myself run out of, it feels too essential to me. I need to eat more veggies though.
This is anecdotal, my blood pressures as of late have been around 150/98 or so. When I take 1-2 caps of vitamin shoppe brand magnesium taurate (125mg/cap) my blood pressure drops to the 115-130 for the top, systolic, number and about 70-90 for the bottom diastolic number.
Excellent presentation and information!! Thank you! A doctor who actually takes her time to help people thru her videos. Beautiful classy lady with an awesome voice to boot. Blessings to you!
Great information I thank you for posting. Also, I have made myself some magnesium oil and put it in a good quality spray bottle on my legs must’ve started cramping. I sprayed the magnesium oil on it and rubbed it really good and I have also not experience muscle cramping anymore, but I did purchase good quality magnesium flakes to make my magnesium oil, could you make a video regarding this when you have a time some more people also know about it.
I'm doing a similar thing with good results. I bought liquid magnesium (Mega-Mag from trace minerals) which is concentrated seawater. It has totally helped with the cramps, but I want more information about its effectiveness. I saw that the molecule is large and may not absorb as well through the skin.

Would you consider doing a video discussing what is known about the role of NLRP3 activation in neurodegenerative, neuropsychiatric, and sleep disorders?
I really appreciate this video and your very clear and useful definitions and explanations. However, 2 things concerned me: (1) The testing of the brands on Amazon were done by the NOW company, and of all those brands, *their own brand* was the only one that did not use the more effective chelated Magnesium glycinate? Does that not require a bit more investigation of the testing and the risk of bias? (2) I have been researching the magnesium issue due to a life-long problem with muscle cramps that have only increased as I am nearing 70. I have read a good bit about Magnesium malate for muscle cramps, and this form was one that was not covered. Also, Magnesium taurate is described as having great benefit for cardiovascular health as well, and this form was not addressed. Could you do a follow-up to address these issues? Your other information was so cogent and helpful, I would love to hear your take on these questions. Thanks!
besides magnesium glycinate and magnesium threonate (and other forms), there is magnesium taurate (magnesium + taurine). some claim that this compound also has cognitive or neurological benefits.
Have a video suggestion for you. (didn't know which video to put this on so it's here). If interested, perhaps a video on methylation and brain/overall health. Seems to be a bit controversial. Some state the significance of testing and some don't. For example, MTHFR mutations. Or other factors, such as nutrition, influencing methylation and the impact on health. Thanks !
LOL, every underlined food item is on Dr Gundry's "no list" except spinach which is on my personal "no list" due to high oscillates, high pesticides, and rapid decay of nutrient content after harvest. Gundry is fine with almonds if they are pealed and blanched. I looked it up and that process only slightly reduces the magnesium, so there's that. However, most nuts are not suitable to eat in excess, with almonds near the top of that list. I guess I confirmed I should continue to supplement magnesium. I know not everyone agrees with Gundry and I admit he seems go overboard a bit, but he still knows what he is talking about. You don't want to megadose his "no list" even if you don't completely abstain. I wish you discussed magnesium taurate. I use it as one of two types of magnesium to get taurine as well. Hope that works. I also use the Life Extension L-Threonate. I was impressed with reading the 2016 study, but I have seen doctors and health influencers go both ways on it. Personally, I used to have vivid dreams about 3 times a year, but I have had them every day since supplementing starting with day one. To me is sounds like it is getting in the brain. I had started with 3 a day (each being a third of the daily allowance) and took them all before bed. Probably why they worked on day one. However, I have cut one pill since there is some in my multivitamin and in my food and several are cautioning about taking too much, although I have not had any problems. I found your video helpful and informative. I purchased a different L-Threonate for my next bottle to save money, but I am starting to think it may have been a mistake. The tips on which ones to buy were a great help. Thank you. I will take a look at you video collection and subscribe if it looks like this video.

Isn’t it important to balance minerals? How do you know if you’re throwing off your other minerals by supplementing with magnesium? I’m all for it if it’s not dangerous but by what about copper, manganese, calcium, sodium, potassium etc?
I was getting 3-4 migraines a week on average and I was barely functioning in life. I decided to try Magnesium Glycinate since the Magnesium Oxide didn't do anything for me. It took about two weeks then all of a sudden my migraines came to almost a complete halt. I'm down to 2-3 a month now. The Magnesium Glycinate worked better than any migraine medication that I've ever tried. I highly recommend it.
I was taking 1000 MG of Threonate a night and it really helped me sleep well. When I decided to stop I had serious psychological side effects. As with any supplement talk with your doctor.
@dianavp9054 I agree. Luckily, I now go to a neurologist and Epileptologist at a university hospital. Sometimes, I feel like an experiment, but it's so worth it.
Very responsible presentation. I take Innate Vitality magnesium glycinate, which is chelated. You mentioned that magnesium citrate is recommended for migraine, but it has too much of a laxative side effect. I’ve also learned that many of us with migraine have mitral valve prolapse, which I know I have. Magnesium is essential for this population.

nobody can figure my health out at the doctors they keep sending me to every buddy that don’t want to deal with me I guess , so I decided to diagnose myself and I truly believe I need magnesium and or potassium.

My wife's magnesium got so low 0.6 in the middle of the night she had a seizure sent her to the hospital for a week we were so lucky she lived through the mag drop. Today every 6 months she gets a blood test for magnesium.

reliable. Why not take a supplement

Her neurologist and nephrologist could come up with any answers, it left her with permanent kidney damage.

On point. Thank you very much. As a fellow neurologist I use a lot of Mag for my patients with good results.

What about the one u get from the sun naturally?

Thank you for this information. I’m a big fan of magnesium after visiting with my neurologist a few years ago. No other doctors even think about magnesium deficiency. I’ve simply taken the Nature Made magnesium oxide and test for it occasionally. I can tell if I have too much in my system as my dreams become vivid. Then I stop for a while. I notice it does help my memory function and muscle and nerve function. It helps keep my blood pressure down along with Losartan. I’ve been without it lately and my legs are cramping frequently. Thanks

Thank you for this high level, informative, thoughtful, well-referenced, non-conflicted, and very thorough presentation. It is much appreciated.

Dr. Anna, Excellent compilation and explanation of magnesium 😊. What are your thoughts regarding the powder form such as “ calm “ .
Thanks again.
I take Magnesium Glycinate.
