    SteamOS is an inmutable operating system, so no real changes are made to the base of the OS.
    That's why certain tools require you to re-install them every time you upgrade your deck, since they can't be installed permanently.
    It's a really stable OS, so it won't get slower even after years of heavy use.

      Oh good to know! Appreciate the insights and was wondering why I hadn't started experiencing any sluggishness with as much as I'm constantly swapping in new software

    Nice tutorial! It's good to see that it's an easy process to do a factory reset in case it's needed! Near the end I saw that you have launchers for GOG, Epic and GamePass which it's cool to see that there's a way to have access to all your digital libraries even if it's not natively from Steam OS itself! Great video and keep up the good work!

    Thanks for this. As a programmer working with Linux i know it can be such a pain doing this and get everything back up and running like before. So seeing that it's a rather smooth process is definitely good to know. Have a good one friend! Much love ❤

    Only issue I’ve found is there’s something wrong with the way it rebuilds partitions after reset. My 1tb oled had 10gb less of ssd storage after reset. I re-imaged it and the storage went back to +10gb.
    A few other people have posted about it, but there’s no real explanation anywhere.

      That would be Spec Ops: The Line, though sadly it's been removed from Steam at this point so you'll likely need to emulate.

    But how does retrieving game saves work? Where does the Deck save each game's save state when exiting a game? Is it automatically done on-line, like the Switch. And are all the save states retrieved in the same way! Also, what about Games like GTA 5 which, although bought through Steam, required a Rockstar Social account set up? Where are those saves?
    Please do a video about this. I'm a steam deck noob. Only had one for a few weeks & it's had to be RMA'ed. When it's returned, i don't know if I'll have any save states or not, and how are they retrieved. Coming from a Nintendo Switch to a Steam Deck has been a daunting transition. Thank you for your videos 👍

    • @nayibmc5437
      @nayibmc5437 7 місяців тому +1

      For Steam games, most of them have Cloud save, so no need to worry about those. You can check if a game has cloud save on the store page.
      For games with launchers like Rockstar, I think the launcher itself has their own cloud save, so you just signin and continue.
      As for PC games (outside of Steam, like .exes) and for emulation games, it depends a lot on each case. I would recommend either looking that up individually, or making a backup of your whole home/deck folder, just in case

    • @frankmacs9379

      @@nayibmc5437 Wow, ok. It's a bit of a daunting transition but thank you for the great information 👍

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2  7 місяців тому +2

      Yup, what nayibmc said- Cloud save should mostly keep things intact and 3rd party launcher games like those from Ubisoft/Rockstar tend to have their own cloud solutions for maintaining save data.

    • @nayibmc5437
      @nayibmc5437 7 місяців тому

      @@frankmacs9379 I'm happy to hear I helped. But do remember that this learning curve is like that because we are tinkering outside of Steam. If you get a Steam Deck and stick with Steam games, it's actually simpler than on the Switch: some Steam games have cloud save, some don't. While on the Switch it's: some Switch games have cloud save, some don't, but for most you have to PAY to have cloud save :D

    Oh I missed this one before... Sorry to hear your attempt at getting an excuse to buy an oled didn't work... 😂
    As for the steam deck not being a console... Well, that's true, but it's also not windows. Actually this factory reset is a big difference already because for a windows pc to get it fresh I would format and reinstall windows fresh, not just click a button in the menu. This actually also feels a lot more console.
    I would say that steam deck is more like a console that is open to you doing lots of PC things to it. I'm sure you could gunk the system up, but you probably need to go to desktop mode to do it. Stay in game mode and the system to me seems very much like a console.
