I've never been a console gamer but always wanted SNES. I played some games at friends' houses. I recently decided to turn my old laptop into a retro gaming machine. Installed Ubuntu and RetroPie on it and also purchased a nifty 8BitDo Pro 2 controller. As a PC gamer, I'm still getting used to a controller, but this opens up a whole new world to explore. Being a completionist I'm also very happy to have discovered RetroAchievements, this will be a really fun new experience for me.

I love this so much! Happened to randomly be installing PCSX2 on a new machine, which I haven't done in years and saw the option for achievements, now I'm down this rabbit hole. So cool. And with the subpar quality of modern games, making these retro titles have the modern creature comforts to new players makes them that much more of an optimal choice.
I've use RA for a few months now after getting into emulation, and I'd say it's become my favourite achievement system. Leaderboards, subsets for the more popular games, achievements for hacks and homebrews, a strong community, and bonus points for getting extremely rare achievements. Since this video was made, RA support has been extended to DuckStation, PCSX2, and I think Dolphin has only just started support. Dreamcast is also supported in RetroArch using the Flycast core.

0:33 I don't play games just from my childhood. Granted, there are many older games I just won't touch, like most of what Atari had to offer, but nostalgia isn't the only factor. A love of retro games can come in different flavors and while it *helps* to have grown up with the systems and games, it's not really a requirement. I never played the Dreamcast. Didn't even know what it was until I was in college and the system and Sega's whole aspiration for a successful console line were dead. I know, random tangent over a small comment, but it annoys me that people don't appreciate that these games offered a lot beyond nostalgia. Some of them are genuinely just really fun to play. I don't care what system you play it on, Tetris is always going to be fun to play, and whether you play Chrono Trigger on the SNES or the DS or an emulator or on Steam, you're going to have a fun time, because it's a great game. And no matter the version of Super Mario Bros. you play, if you're into sidescrollers (which for the most part, I am *not),* you are still getting a solid, enjoyable experience, because they're well-made games. Obviously a remake makes it better. Super Mario All-Stars beats the original versions by miles, visually, but the introduction of the Generation 6 remakes of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire didn't suddenly make Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald worthless to me. I think they look amazing to this day, but the style is different. There's a reason so many indie games focus on pixel art and old PS1 graphics (for horror games). It's not just nostalgia, though they do long for those days, and it's not just because the games are cheaper to produce, but of course they *are.* It's because they think the games look good. And they do. EDIT: Just to put it another way, I don't listen to 80s music because I want to relive my childhood. I was born a decade later. I just think the 80s culture has great appeal. Lots of people do, which is a large reason why Stranger Things got so popular. Getting achievements for these games seems like a really cool feature. I've only recently started to appreciate achievements as a whole after working so hard to get to nearly 100% achievements in Halo MCC (there are a LOT). I don't obsess over it, but it's something cool to work towards, and since RetroArch offers connectivity with the feature, I'm thinking of taking advantage of it when I eventually get an RG35XX Plus or similar handheld.
That’s exactly what happened to me two years ago, saw this video and went out to make an account. Couldn’t believe I’d never heard of it before! Rn I’m playing Pokemon Platinum and loving it! There are so many things in this game that I either never messed with, or had no idea even existed, that I only do now because I’m trying to get 100% achievements.
I mostly play most of the games on my Steam Deck well the emulated ones that have Retro Achievements on them, it's optional to have it on as you don't really have to, I like putting the RetroAchievements on, to show my progress on games these days and completed badges of icons on that specific emulated game.
For those who asked for the bezels in the video, I just added them in the description.
Enjoy! :)
But how do i equip them?

@@kamildrews3517 That’s a solid suggestion, definitely open to something along those lines
@@usagishade Maybe even reviews, top 10s, tips and maybe "wish/play this set" videos.
This video made me make a retro achievements account, currently collecting castlevania sotn achievements as well as tekken dark ressurection ones
How do I get the roms?😢
Thank you so much for making this video, i love this concept
your editing style is amazing!
7:24 Man, u saved my life
Wish I saw this video sooner, it's a banger
Great video, I love retroachievements, I wish it gets more recognition from retro twitch streamers, they seem to be more into speedrunning
I mostly play most of the games on my Steam Deck well the emulated ones that have Retro Achievements on them, it's optional to have it on as you don't really have to, I like putting the RetroAchievements on, to show my progress on games these days and completed badges of icons on that specific emulated game.
I'm from the future, we got PS2 before Gamecube lol 😆
GameCube taking its sweet time
I've just signed up for this because it's integrated into Duckstation. I'd love to see it integrated into PPSSPP, the Pizza emulators, etc.
I’ll have to check out duckstation on my spare time. PPSSPP would be the best thing ever tbh
Well PPSSPP has planned that RetroAchievements integration is now being work in progress.
