My experience with DHEA is that it's best taken in small doses in small bursts (2-3 days and then off for weeks). I was hoping you would get to this outside of your courses because your research analysis helps me a lot quicker than all of the rating I would have to do on my own
I did some before and after blood work with 50 mg a day. It actually lowered my testosterone and it did so by raising my e2. Pre-dhea my e2 was 32. On the next blood panel it was all the way up at 54. Lh was lower and this is likely why the testosterone was as well. Now just doing low dose trt but I did experiment with this first. Did not have good long-term results even though I felt better the first couple weeks I took it
Thank you for this informational video. I tested my DHEA-S in saliva test, later also blood test. My level was only 1/4 to 1/5 of normal, maybe that is why I felt so tired most days. I tried doses and it made me very amped up and anxious. I could never take it at night, it can cause insomnia even when taken in morning. What I cautiously did was take 2.5 to 5 mg every other day. Besides making hormones, DHEA also has neuro stimulating effects on the brain. I am over 40 and can’t take that 40 mg suggested dose. I’d recommend for men to go low and slow, try only 5 mg, perhaps daily or every other day, see how you feel and sleep. It can make your skin oily also. Also be sure to monitor DHEA-S levels periodically. And some sort of cycle with off times. More energy and vitality is good, but anxiety and insomnia is not. Low & slow.

Hey Mike. Great video and great responses and engagement as well. In my clinical experience I’ve never seen DHEA supplements, increase testosterone in men, but certainly can do so in. women. There’s a lot of hype regarding the benefits of DHEA potentially in men in particular. There have been a few meta-analysis. Looking into this. In general, there seems to be get support for cardiovascular benefit. In older men, there seems to be support for the idea that DHEA can help with bone density. And then we have some interesting studies like the study out of UCLA and the journals cell that combined DHEA with human growth hormone a met Forman, which seems to have improved immunosenescence and reversed epigenetic aging markers.
Your post is worse than worthless: you're an anonymous UA-cam user making claim after claim about clinical experience without explication and about clinical research without citation.
I think the main problem is the fact that everyone consumes caffeine which literally prevents your DHEA from working as the caffeine is stressing out your adrenal glands when the DHEA is trying to repair your cells.
@@curtissharris8914 There's a million reasons why caffeine is bad for you, I'm not convinced by the studies that say it's good, I believe the risk outweighs the benefit.
Good to see you post this. I take it at 47yrs old alongside Pregnenolone. Interesting to hear many call both the mother of all hormones. I would consider pregnenolone the owner of that title but both are important for sure. I was taking it early but maybe will try the evening to see the sleep effect.
Anecdotally, at mid 30s I once out of the blue took I think it was a 25mg dhea, didn't notice much that evening but the next day I woke up and felt incredible the entire day. I felt like I thought I should feel, calm, confident, strong, at ease with anything, anxiety was just gone(very rare for me). But never got the same result again, even with the same bottle. Years later I tried again but started with 10mg per day, to ease into it so I could notice which dose size was best. Did it for a week or so and noticed slightly enhanced energy, but one day I suddenly crashed energy wise. I was brutally lethargic which was extremely odd, and since there wasn't any other change in my routine I confidently attributed it to the dhea and haven't tried again. It's tricky because that one day when it worked was amazing, so much that a decade later I haven't forgotten, but haven't been able to recreate it and that lethargy was brutal. I wonder what that was about? Estrogen crash or something? No bloods to confirm but I highly suspect I'm reasonably low T due to reckless use of aas in mid 20s.
I'm conflicted on dhea.i hear alot of people say good things about it and then others say it's a waste of money.ive taken it myself and noticed good things like more libido for maybe like a week and then nothing.i was taking it basically just to try to boost test but it can also be converted to estrogen so it's kind of a gamble when you take it from what I understand. Instead I'm now taking enclomiphene bcuz I know exactly what it does and it does exactly what I want.blocks estrogen and boosts natural test.alot of trt clinics are now prescribing it as a matter of fact
20+ years ago, when I used to lift seriously, I used to take DHEA. I had it dosed in a liquid transport and would apply it to my inner thigh. The transport was nothing more than a clear, watery lotion with DMSO. It would allow the DHEA to penetrate the inside of the thigh and go straight to the bloodstream. This way, the bioavailability was through the roof compared to taking it orally and having your stomach acids and liver destroying most of it. At that time, I was at the greatest peak of my physical abilities in my life and got the most insane gains I have ever had. According to my wife, it had two major problems. 1) The sex-drive was ridiculously high and it would never let up. NEVER. 2) She didn't like kissing me when I was taking DHEA because she said it made my breath smell like rotten vegetables.
@khadevisrobinson4622 Yes, you had to take the DHEA with the DMSO in a transdermal. The DMSO is what allows the DHEA to penetrate the skin and enter directly into the bloodstream.
I’m a 50 year old male and have been taking DHEA periodically since I was probably in my late 30’s. I tend to take a low 10 mg tablet twice a week which I’m sure is super low for some people. But I also didn’t want to have any side effects to have it cause other issues. In high amounts it can also cause insomnia so I tend to take it upon waking which is what’s suggested anyway. Definitely noticeable improvement in mood, energy, libido and muscle tone when I take it. I also workout regularly and have been since I was a teenager.

dhea is a precursor to androstenedione which is a precursor to testosterone. i tried androstenedione decades ago back in my bodybuilding days and found it indeed did work, but as most scientists tell you: it increased testosterone for a few weeks, which then leveled off because of the body's reaction in reducing its natural testosterone in response. thus the requirement for cycling, just to keep a somewhat consistent level. the added testosterone, on top of making me edgy like way too much coffee, yielded hair loss from the testosterone breakdown to DHT. between the body's own reduction reaction, the unnatural feel of the added testosterone, and the hair loss, i decided to stop taking it and stay natural. i was in my 30s at the time, and even over 50 today, i will not go that route.
Thanks again for the info. I've been checking my DHEA levels for a while. And was off and on with DHEA supps. My test in May of this year showed a 76 level. I started taking 25 mg a day. My functional doctor wanted me to take 50mg a day but I said I would do 25 first. Im a male 59 yrs old. I checked my DHEA again In October and my level was 146. I increased my dosage to 50mg for a month then back to 25mg this month. Can't really say with certainty that I feel any different. I started taking it because I was feeling real sluggish at that time. I wanted to see if this would help. I still believe in this hormone so not giving up. Recently I happened to check my old labs that were taken September 2021. My pregnenolone level was 67 out of a range of 25/260. Now my thinking is trying to raise this too because its considered the "mother" of hormones and makes DHEA too. I just ordered more DHEA 25mg micronized that dissolve under the tongue. I plan on taking 10mg of pregnenolone and 25mg of DHEA. ill re test in 30 days.
I am a 58 postmenopausal woman. I have been taking 10 mg each day and it caused my face to break out. My doctor told me to cut back to cut back to 5 for a time and slowly increase it.
That small of an amount of dhea shouldn't make a woman your age have a break out. I would look at your diet as the problem not the dhea. Or perhaps you are quite overweight? Weight also factors in a lot.
The most substantial benefit from this product for myself at 45 years old is the massive impact on improvement of my mood and being able to deal with people less reactionary and more positive overall 💫🏆 if you’re over 40, 100 mg of DHEA every day is a winner 🥇
My friends and I have taken it. and it had the exact opposite effect. Wecame depressed moody assholes. In a big way. It was crazy... like roid rage (i'm guessing).
That's a really high dosage. Certainly not for everyone. And starting on a high dose - which is anything over 20 mg - can have negative effects on many people, which might put them off trying it, when all they had to do was start at a lower dosage and work their way up to the ideal dosage for them.

Mike, appreciate the video, wanted to know if you or anyone else here has thoughts on pregnalone vs dhea? I was thinking that they are both precursors to testosterone but dhea comes from pregnalone. What is a reason why one would not use pregnalone instead of dhea? I realize this may be a more nuanced and in depth answer than just a couple of lines.
Here's the issue with supplementing DHEA that my hormonal groups have found, it's a lost cause if cortisol levels are also off... and if DHEA is off, you can have a darn near sure bet your cortisol levels are also off. And the common ways doctors test adrenals are not adequate for detecting anything beyond Cushings and Addison levels and being in range is also not the same as optimal cortisol levels. ._. And I'd say based on the things I saw as a former health group admin, that there is a growing problem with adrenal issues in people... just crazy common. Which is very bad, because it's not just adrenals, that effects sex hormones and thyroid too, they're all very interconnected.
@@catherinehinners420 Stop the Thyroid Madness has several articles on adrenals as well as a page of optimal result ranges with adrenals on it. As does Thyroid As We Know It I believe, should be a similar optimal level thing.
@Rakealia this is what I'm dealing with. Adrenal crash 6 weeks ago after overdoing coffee and fasting. Have been on hrt and dhea for over a year and hormone dr wanted me to double the hrt because my adrenals aren't strong enough to process them (?). Started low dose pregnenolone instead (10mg), keeping hrt same, and dhea (10 mg), and hopefully won't pass off adrenals again or thyroid (on np thyroid 30mg). Do you recommend any other books besides the two you mentioned?

Thank you for your education, Mike. I am 62 years old. 25 mg of DHEA seems to be sufficient for me. I can see changes in my body/muscles after being on it. The DHEA at night helped with my libido, but interfered with my sleep, so I take it in the morning. I also have BPH and unfortunately, DHEA also raises estrogen, which may make my BPH worse. Any suggestion on estrogen blockers? I'm taking a Broccoli extract powder and spirulina hoping it will help block.
Major Risk for Women: DHEA and testosterone ride around on albumin molecules. Years of testosterone production tends to also occupy DHEA sites on albumin when DHEA is in short supply. Then, when you supplement with DHEA, once the DHEA sites on the albumin have been occupied, it starts kicking off the misplaced testosterone - which briefly makes a testosterone peak - but it also produces a brief testosterone overdoes that long-term down-regulates the sensitivity of the testosterone receptors. The net effect is that ladies' libido is DESTROYED for a decade or so - which is a real life-wrecker. DHEA supplementing is usually a really BAD idea for women, but for those who want to risk it, they MUST understand this risk, so they can immediately stop supplementing at the first signs of their libido running out of control. Again, this can be a real life-wrecker.
Hey Mike! Quick question, im reviewing your various vids on DHEA as I begin taking it myself. In this and another vid you recommend taking it at night. 46y/o Male My DHEA was like 3'-5's , I tried TRT Gel from my doc but he didn't tell me it would BRICK Dhea levels to 1 within 13 days. Taking as little 10mg every other day works for me, but 20mg of DHEA every other day put my levels at 16.8ng within 15hrs of taking it. Mixed feelings of how I feel on it, sex is more a little bloat, big increase in nitric oxide. I don't know how people can tolerate higher doses, I get a spike in Aggression going to 30mg. Thank you for your Video!
I was hoping you would get to this outside of your courses because your research analysis helps me a lot quicker than all of the rating I would have to do on my own
Hope you find this video helpful!
Did not have good long-term results even though I felt better the first couple weeks I took it
Everybody is different. But not lower e2 means better. I had low T and low E2, raising my T raised my e2 to around 54, and I feel well at that range
@@jordixboyare you taking dhea is so at what dose?
what about free test and DHT? did you check those too?
I have hypothyroidism, low T, and low dhea level, started replacement therapy on all 3 for 2 months and feel so much better.

HGH caused my tongue and trachea to grow now I have sleep apnea. Was a terrible idea. I’m over 40 FYI. I can’t prove it just a correlation.
@Cookie Monster dhea? Most likely none but good question

Good to see you post this. I take it at 47yrs old alongside Pregnenolone. Interesting to hear many call both the mother of all hormones. I would consider pregnenolone the owner of that title but both are important for sure. I was taking it early but maybe will try the evening to see the sleep effect.
How long have you been taking those two hormones? Dosage?
I believe it's the increase in estradiol that it causes along with increase in testosterone.
Cortisol to low
Maybe placebo. Never underestimate it or kid yourself you are immune. No one is.
I take 25mg dhea a day at my doctors advice. Luckily that was the right amount and my blood tests come back on the high end of normal now.
The rotten breath smell was the DMSO...
Did you have to take the DHEA with DMSO?
@khadevisrobinson4622 Yes, you had to take the DHEA with the DMSO in a transdermal. The DMSO is what allows the DHEA to penetrate the skin and enter directly into the bloodstream.
I find dhea very powerful. I take 15mg twice a week and really feel it.

Some doctors say u should take pregnenolone if u are on DHEA? What do u think doctor?
I’m a 50 year old male and have been taking DHEA periodically since I was probably in my late 30’s. I tend to take a low 10 mg tablet twice a week which I’m sure is super low for some people. But I also didn’t want to have any side effects to have it cause other issues. In high amounts it can also cause insomnia so I tend to take it upon waking which is what’s suggested anyway.
Definitely noticeable improvement in mood, energy, libido and muscle tone when I take it. I also workout regularly and have been since I was a teenager.

Is it only for men over 40?
dhea is a precursor to androstenedione which is a precursor to testosterone. i tried androstenedione decades ago back in my bodybuilding days and found it indeed did work, but as most scientists tell you: it increased testosterone for a few weeks, which then leveled off because of the body's reaction in reducing its natural testosterone in response. thus the requirement for cycling, just to keep a somewhat consistent level. the added testosterone, on top of making me edgy like way too much coffee, yielded hair loss from the testosterone breakdown to DHT. between the body's own reduction reaction, the unnatural feel of the added testosterone, and the hair loss, i decided to stop taking it and stay natural. i was in my 30s at the time, and even over 50 today, i will not go that route.
Your videos are always very educative, thank you and I appreciate you.
Thanks for the great info, Mike!
Thanks Mike. I was unaware of this. Thanks for shedding light on this topic.

That's a really high dosage. Certainly not for everyone. And starting on a high dose - which is anything over 20 mg - can have negative effects on many people, which might put them off trying it, when all they had to do was start at a lower dosage and work their way up to the ideal dosage for them.
@@shiftgood Too high a dosage, that's why! Start much lower, even 10 mg for a while, and very gradually increase it.

Do you know where to find optimal adrenal test result ranges?
Even if you are low t and take DHEA, it’s not going to make your body produce more testosterone, the small amount that dhea converts to is way less than actual testosterone production from the testes

I heard take it when you get up in the morning when your testosterone is high.
Pregnenolone is the mother hormone.
