Looking at the space platform, I think the graby arms might eventually fill up with the carbon and iron asteroids, leaving no slots for the ice asteroids, causing it to grind to a halt. Not sure how long that will take, but you might need a few combenators to check and then purge the station when it backs up.
Hopefully there's enough non-spoiler content to last until after we get into the game ourselves. It seems like a bit of a questionable move to jump over the start since we're all going to be a week behind and that's gonna hit the algorithm. Oh, well shit! You already went to Vulcanus in the next video! Damn!
Started back in 2016 on 0.12 with a friend. We had entire weekends lost totally tunnel visioning in local multiplayer. Him with a laptop on the couch, me on my PC at the desk right infront. One Session I realized on Saturday morning, that on Friday I opened a beer and never touched it. Glued to the chair in between :D
Shed a tear for Dosh's cursed inserter counting networks that always lost count and he could never make work quite right XD I know it's not what this DLC is about, but it has such an insane amount of QOL improvements.
Right? I audibly gasped when I saw the "Hold (all belts)"-option. Sushi belts will become sooo convenient, not just for space plattforms. Combine them with the new function to set recipes for assemblers via circuit conditions and you can build a dynamic mall that you just have to tell what items to keep in stock.

@mnm8818 it might feel cheaty, but personally it helped me to find some BPs that made use of circuits, by checking out how they were set up and what they do while in action I was able to understand much easier how circuits work generally :)
I have 4000 hours and 6 years of experience in factorio. After seeing this video...I will be farewelling my family. I will be unavailable on weekends for the next 4-7 business years.
Started playing waaaay back before the rocket launch or current engineer model existed. The end goal was just a giant biter wave you had to survive. I made the speggettiest of factories and fixed everything once I implemented robots. By fixed I mean it was still haphazard and spaghetti but I was no longer getting in my own way, and I eventually "completed" the game. I figured out how to organize things down the line in other, more efficient factories. Nearly 10 years later I'm an actual engineer with bills to pay and less time to feed to the machine, but i'm still incredibly excited to pick up the DLC.
Same story over here :) Factorio and technical minecraft mods initially got me into engineering! Now I got my own sustainability department as an environmental engineer :D Good thing nobody at work knows I am paving entire planets in concrete and burning local wildlife with heavy oil flamethrowers in my free time ;) Thanks factorio
Didn't knew it started that way. My start was in 2014 when a rocket silo was a bleu square that counted down a couple of minutes to win the game. Love this game!
I've started to play factorio because of your videos:) now I'm UA military service man, so your videos is the way to experience something different than the war. cheers
Nilaus, I don't want this to sound like unnecessary fanboying here but, genuinely, you're my favourite Factorio content creator. I've watched a few Space Age videos in the last 24 hours and I don't know what your secret ingredient is but I just find myself enjoying your videos far more than a lot of the other very talented YTs. Thank you very much for such an enjoyable first episode and I'm really looking forward to seeing more over the next few weeks.
You should be able to do the logic with 2 combinators. There is a trick where you subtract what you have from what you want. An arithmetic combinator connected to your storage(s)(or in this case the belt) multiplies each input by -1 and is set to output each, so your stock is output as negative value. A constant (or more if needed) combinator is set up with values of how much you want to have. Connect the constant and arithmetic combinators output to the grabbers. As long as the value is at least 1 it'll set the filter. Once your stock reaches or surpasses the set limit the value for it will drop below 1 and disable the filters. (at least that's how it works 1.1 and inserter filters)
1m30s in and the joy u have while explaining everything is overwhelming. also pretty interresting to hear these stats about your factorio career. love the content bro, keep it up.
I saw a friend on steam playing Factorio in the early beta, decided to click the watch game button. All I saw was him trying to belt some product from location a > b and was fascinated. bought the game and haven't looked back. loved it so much I bought it for everyone of my friends who had it on their wishlist. like many others, I lost many hours of sleep playing the game trying to solve supply issues.
“Thank you for the great creations and many videos - your gift for detail and aesthetics elevates Factorio to a form of art that’s really nice to watch.”
I started playing Factorio in 2018 and remember struggling a lot with the game until I found your channel popping up in my youtube recommended. Your masterclass videos carried me through to my very first rocket. Since then I played the game on and off, sometimes with friends (we built a megabase together once) and accumulated over 600 hours. It's been one hell of a trip and I think I'm about to begin my journey to 700 hours in a weeks time lmao
Started watching you with Factorio years ago. Thank you so much for all of your content. Watching your modular builds have given me so many hours of base building. Stay effective.
I have never played factorio, but I love watching your videos about it - I get joy from watching you solve these complex problems more than doing it myself!
Loving the new content so far. I started playing this game before it was on Steam, one of the few times I ever bought a game off a website. So happy I did, the game has been exceptional and stable for so many years now that if you have a crash it's probably your fault. Love the devs, they've been on top of issues and taken on board so much noise from the community I'm surprised they are still mostly sane.
It's so much fun to see Nilaus figure out the new mechanics after being an absolute expert on every build for the last years. Really refreshing. Although I did not spend a lot of time in this game, it is one of my all time favorite games and I will probably buy the DLC on the launch date to support the devs. And then I should start to bump up the rookie numbers. 😀
Did not notice the time go by, only afterwords saw it was a 50min video :D. Enjoyed it, i like the format of not being bogged down on the vanilla game, just what has changed!
I'm here! I played my first playthrough ~7 years ago at work (sheepish look) on a pirated copy (sheepish look) with my officemate. It was very dangerous to our productivity. We ended up having a morning meeting determining what work we needed to get done before we played factorio (we'd never been so productive to be unproductive). a co-op first playthrough was amazing. nice to have someone else doing things that you didn't want to do and also the hilarity of trying to figure out why something was low only to go back and realize that the other person had messed it up. I'm to blue science in space age and just unlocked bots.... thank goodness!! I want to launch a rocket but my starter base doesn't really support it... gotta bear down and set up my train network and scale up production.
Seems like they really made a proper expansion. They're making you think totally differently than you have been up to this point and that's really dope. I only have like 20hrs in Factorio, barely have blueprints unlocked, but I'm excited by all the new stuff. Can't wait for the release.
i started playing factorio WAYYY back, a touch over 10 years ago, approximately half an hour after watching NerdCubed's first factorio video. i wanna say it was version 0.10 or 0.11? maybe earlier. the engineer was a blue power ranger and axes we 1) items to be crafted and 2) had durability
When setting the Cargo Pad if you go into map mode you can set the science pack as a ghost request before unlocking it. Thanks for the videos also, great work.
I like how the surface of the platforms look like a lot of scrap held together by hope and prayers. I might have to dust off my factorio install to play along (as if it is such a chore XD)
Its really funny that i subbed to nilaus as factorio is so big thing for him but i never played it, never watched any of his vids about it either. Nilaus made other great game vids where i found him years ago. But i do have to say as i been hammering satisfactory and soon finishing it i do have to maybe look at factorio more as even though its not pretty game the gameplay might make it worth it.
@Nilaus I did enjoy watching many of your past series in the previous years! This one seems a bit rushed, like you need to show all the new bells and whistles of the DLC. There was almost no exploration of the new space platform and thought process on how to build on it. I hope you will start a slower series where you go through the whole 2.0 game without pasting blueprints or having predefined ideas on how to proceed!
One thing I'd love to see from you is a masterclass regarding rails and train interrupts. Particularly train interrupts, not just the theory but also tangible use cases for it.
I will do an introduction when I have a bit more experience with them, but a "Master Class" needs A LOT more knowledge from me before I will use that moniker for my videos
Let's be honest I managed to send my first ship to space thanks to your Factorio content on YT. So that's totally normal that I'm still here today to enjoy the Space Age wwith you !
Thank you so much for all the factorio stuff you've done. I've just really started slamming into circuits and am creating a book to use on release that will help me get to space asap. It uses your base in a book series but I've added a whole bunch of circuit conditions to it. I never know if I have enough stuff to build the next section so now with the circuits and a speaker I just got notified. 10/10 thank you again for the work you put in to make our lives easier
I love that thing with the item request lists. It's so neat that I simply click a checkbox, and I can request a set of items I need, then auto-remove them when I don't need it anymore. Seriously, the extensive list of QoL updates excite me almost as much as the expansion content. :D
The one flaw I see with the asteroid grabber system is that you don’t have much of a buffer to work with. The machine itself is great for storing asteroid chunks ready for use, and clearing the filters this way makes them be empty all the time. Not that much of an issue for White Science, but potentially troublesome for restocking on ammo and fuel after travel, since ice and metal asteroids seem to be rarer than carbon.
Steel Plate Productivity seems like the new best thing to research when you don't have anything better to research. It only requires Nauvis resources, it's infinite, and I could always use more steel.
Jeej, I'm so happy and stoked. Nilaus is finaly playing factorio again!❤ I love your factorio content! Watching it from day1. Can't wait for new awesome builds and your happy community factorio twitch streams. Stay effective!
Hello Nilaus, Thank you for this video. I used it to help with my own sushi belt on my space platform. Thank you again. Good work and great videos. Great work, good logic, and basically the video itself the time skips are great. (Slight suggestion, if possible, perhaps a timelapse ? But maybe not for these kind of videos. Because your work is impressive and the explaining is extensive. Maybe in other videos.) Kind regards
Super excited for the expansion and to watch your videos! I'm holding off until I get to play it myself first though so I figured I'd leave a comment here to drive UA-cam's engagement metrics and show my support. I'll come back to these once I get to experience it for myself!
Played factorio on and off for years but never really got past military science, started a new run with one of boys who had never played before. It is now Tuesday and we have just launched a rocket into space! Virtual crack fr
I started watching Factorio videos of yours before I even knew anything about the game and you got me into buying it. Then you moved to DSP / Satisfactory which I already had but then Foundry / Timberborn and I've watched them all and played "most" of them. Your Valheim play through was fun to watch as I already cleared it so it was very nice to see how you tackled that game in a way different than your Factory games. Still efficient Still fun to watch :P
Fantastic video. Loved your explanation and demonstration of the personal logistic setup. In addition, I suck at Combinator logics, I was able to half-ass it on my Science platform, but it still collects to many of various chunks in the grabbers, although the belt is pretty well set up. Your walk through of setting up the combinators should help a lot in correctly setting up my space platforms. Looks like I have a new series to watch. 😉
I bought in 2014 with version 0.11, played the 0.08 demo for while before that. Was amazing watching as the game changed over the years. So looking forward to release day. I will be doing more marathon play sessions once again.
this is a bit late, but my first time playing was back in 2016. I just dived into the game and felt like i was doing everything *wrong* so i stopped playing. Fast forward 2-ish years and i watched a few videos to get a better idea of how stuff worked. eventually this led to me launching my first rocket. fast forward to sometime around 1.0 launch and i found your stuff and i used your MC blueprints to build a base that i was actually rly proud of! now my most recent save is of an incomplete mega base (adhd demanded other things took priority) and im currently waiting for Space Age to launch where I'll hopefully be able to achieve my megabase dreams!
Factorio and Rimworld were my first early access games. It would have been the early 2010s because I was still in college. I think it was 0.8 versions because I know pollution was in the game but blueprints hadn’t been added.
Start playing in 2018 with version 0.16. Super excited for space age. Been reading the FFFs, but don't want to spoil too much so I'll be looking forward to watching these episodes after Monday's release!
really cool episode. Good to see already some neat designs. Btw. I think nooone mentioned it before but research progress timeline when you hover over technologies is a nice QoL.
Engineer flying through space minding their own business. "Woops, I crash landed on a planet full of biters... I guess I'll just take over the galaxy now." This is the super predator solution to the fermi paradox, except it's just one being and "the factory must grow".
995 videos?? good lord that's impressive! always loved your content, you changed me from a factorio noob to well...someone who tried to stubbornly make their own city block BPs and didn't really succeed. but it was some of the most fun I've had! can't wait til you hit 1k, I hope you have something exciting planned. did you manage to time it right to hit 1k with Aquilo? anyways, great hearing your voice as always, thanks for doing what you do!
Its probably just because I don't understand the circuit network, but I would just use splitters with priority outputs and inputs. If a belt is full, off the side you go
Looking now at the space station, ship, I was thinking that is weird to send building in space. The building there are already autoconstruct without bots, this regeneration was supposed to reguest only materials not prefabs.
"Ah, we're not going to work on trains." Brother, PLEASE. Almost no one wants to talk about trains other than to say 'welp, time to rebuild everything.' I have been trying to get a decent four-lane intersection to work properly for DAYS and am having the worst time with it. >:(

Uff, started back in 2016, played on and off. Ironcily, i made my first 1k spm base after finding your channel nilaus. Your blueprints helped alot^^
Happy for you, man. Can't wait for Space Age to get released to the public next week
Thank you for the quality content Nilaus! So cool to see how much the channel has grown
Being able to collapse the Personal logistics groups would be such a nice QoL feature. Hope they add it!
Hello Nilaus,
Thank you for this video.
Maybe in other videos.)
Kind regards
bought factorio for 13 dollars in April of 2014, 10 years later im ready to go again!!
So happy you went this way so we can see the space stuff right away. This is going to be fun.
Awesome stuff man! Really hyped to see where this is going and how you manage to resolve all the new problems this update has!
19:27 when the Rollercoaster starts going downhill
Wow - sooo many nice qol features. Can't wait to take a deep-dive again.
The ratios tooltip is such a needed change, im more excited about that than going to space!
Bro I thought I'd be more self-controlled with this early access content but here I am
this is a bit late, but my first time playing was back in 2016.
Can't wait for this, have have a week off work next week, just to play factorio Space Age :) yaay.
I started playing factorio Feb 2016 so excited for this new content
imagine an rts game but factorio themed , i love the way this game look
Holy crap having built in ratio indicators is going to be an insane game changer for me
great to see you back at a brand new series of factorio. soo looking forward to the 21nd. keep up the good work
the self expanding platform make me think of the Borg
Start playing in 2018 with version 0.16. Super excited for space age. Been reading the FFFs, but don't want to spoil too much so I'll be looking forward to watching these episodes after Monday's release!
really cool episode. Good to see already some neat designs. Btw. I think nooone mentioned it before but research progress timeline when you hover over technologies is a nice QoL.
33:24 "Woooo" Nice!
Actually there are power poles in space. They are still useful so make logic signals reach further!
Engineer flying through space minding their own business. "Woops, I crash landed on a planet full of biters... I guess I'll just take over the galaxy now." This is the super predator solution to the fermi paradox, except it's just one being and "the factory must grow".
the funny thing is i seen your deathworld play through and watched all 11 hours of it and i bought the game a few days later
Hi. Used your blueprints in another game. Hopping on now to this play through. Thanks for the work and content.
Trupen crying for help in the menu animations is so effing hilarious 😂
Having a "Trash Unrequested" checkbox in the inventory is amazing. I just realized I don't have to make a list of all the stuff I don't want.
We need a full lets play nilaus please !!!
Its probably just because I don't understand the circuit network, but I would just use splitters with priority outputs and inputs. If a belt is full, off the side you go
Purchased August,2014.. have over 20,000 hours pre steam and about 2,000 hours since steam
me too from 2014!❤
cant wait for this to come out, already designing rough blueprints in my head for this.
Oh, the space logistics are so much easier than in SE, I love it....
