One interesting theory I recently found is that regarding Godwin's fishtail thingy. The malformed dragon armour helmet ornament seems to depict a dragon with a tail similar to what Godwin has. The ornament also has what seems like long flowing hair. Considering that Godwin has befriended dragons it seems like that ornament might be a depicting his power or form. Which would makes sense for the basiliscs being his children

Im pretty sure that's just a Drake, which have scales as well, since the DTS gained Draconic powers via Dragon Communion after the Ancient Dragons lost, due to it being mutually beneficial for both sides; humans gain power, and they also deal with Placidusax's enemies.
Due to the fact that we can find them in the things betwix (a area believed to be between dimensions - outside space and time), near arch trees/spawned from godwyn whose attached to ER arch tree the erdtree, as well as their immunity to scarlet rot & being researched with dragons by aldia - it could be argued that they are a inter-dimensional invasive species. Similar to patches and the moonlight greatsword. With basilisk’s (as well as potentially both patches and the moonlight great sword) being originally from a dimension we as of yet haven’t explored. Which is why they seemingly don’t have to abide by the same rules most things in the game we find them in have to. (That’s potentially the case for both kings field and shadow tower where og patches is found before Miyazaki made the man we now know) I certainly don’t want to go to the basilisk’s home world that’s for sure lol.
Wherever these things go deathroot should follow, right? I mean, with your headcanon, you could speculate that deathroot was probably growing in Ash Lake or Things Betwixt at an unreachable Arch Tree.
It's been pretty much confirmed that the basilisks in DS1 were created by Seath the Scaleless after he stole some magic from Nito creating magical death. Crystal is the ultimate form of Soul Sorcery which Seath has mastered. When you die of Curse you are crystalized and captured, usually by his snake men. He didn't want them to have physical damaging attacks so they couldn't break you by mistake. We see this in action at Seath's archives, he shoots curse crystal breath at you till you either die or crystalize then they drag you to the prison cells.
I honestly never thought about it, I always assumed that once you were killed by being crystalized Seath used during or after the fight his magic to link you to a specific bonfire
@@Eric6761 Nope, why bother making a type of creature that only crystalizes you for one thing? And then why are there no crystalized people around you where they are? It's cause he's already captured them. I do think he or his snake men still force you to touch the bonfire to keep you there though afterward. All you have to do is touch it to be linked to it right? No magic required, just rub an undead on it and you're likely linked. I take a very common sensical approach to understanding Dark Souls. "Has it happened before? If so, when/how?" -- I touch the bonfire, I link to bonfire. Later I somehow wake up linked to a bonfire after being kidnapped...they must have made me touch it. Simple.
The speculation of the basilisks being children of Godwyn makes sense with one boss. The death-afflicted Dancing Lion in Rauh Ruins. It's deathblight storm births them out of thin air.
It’s actually that same lion that makes me think that Death Blight itself is like scarlet rot. Because when the lions use magic it’s supposed to be the same as invoking the power of the gods. That would imply death blight is of divine origin.
@@azazelsiad3601All the flames are. That's what I gathered from the DLC, that all the "cursed" children and their respective flames represent different outer gods.
@@BBoy4040 except that Godwyn wasn’t a child of flame. Only Messmer and Melina were. He was the first of the golden lineage and from all the sources we have he was not only a stalwart warrior but a kind and wise person. Someone with as much potential as any empyrean but he never was one himself. Moreover his father was Godfrey, not Radagon so any ties to the curse of the giants is moot.
One theory ive heard as to why the player is crystalized when they are killed by basilisk's breath is the basilisk's are distant descendants of the ancient dragons. The ancient dragons existed before disparity, in a world of grey rock and fog, neither dead or alive. The breath of the basilisk seems almost to remove disparity, returning our flesh to the form the world began in before the first flame.
16:42 Ranni set up the black knife assassins and set them on Godwyn specifically to kill his soul so she could divest of her body. That much is practically spelled out in her quest line. What isn't is it was likely that the reason the assassins and Ranni are on bad terms is because playing pawn to her wasn't what they wanted. They only half killed the demi-god, where as the plan for them was to fully kill him, but they were given bad info by Ranni on the rune. From my perspective the most deserving beings of True Death are Ranni and Godwyn. Ranni for justice and Godwyn as a mercy. Its a shame that, as much freedom as you're given in the game, such a route is one you are out right denied.
The golden epitaph sword has this to say: A sword made to commemorate the death of Godwyn the Golden, first of the demigods to die. Infused with the humble prayer of a young boy; "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death." It is found in Auriza's hero grave, full of Skeletal Militiamen, militiamen who live in Death, the fate of those who come in contact with Deathroot, and the Basilisks. So it would be prudent to assume that Godwyn is the souless demigod that is the intended recipient of the Eclipse Ritual.
Yes. Unambiguously. (Also one of the only weapons that deals extra Damage to Those Who Live in Death) Auriza means "Golden" In Latin. It's literally "the Golden Heros Grave" it's Godwyns Tomb. It even has a side entrance, the only tomb with one... Godwyn has a Deathbed Companion, the only person with one. (But this is more Nox Mirror Helm territory)
@@BBoy4040Godwyn was killed by the Black Knife assassins. That's confirmed over and over again. That's not up for debate. (Thought who gave the order is very much up for debate, but it's not the conversation we're having) Though if you pay attention, the painting we see with the assassins carving the Cursemark on his back ... Godwyn is in EXACTLY the same position currently in Deeproot Depths. His arms are out at 90° angles like he's being held up. His head is down. Its an exact 1 for 1. IMO this indicates that the Assassination happened IN DEEPROOT DEPTHS. I don't think Godwyn moved. I think he was already there when he died. The Golden Epitaph is Miquella praying that the infection doesn't spread and that Godwyn simply dies. That's why it does extra damage to Those who live in Death. They don't want Godwyn to be taken over by what closely resembles Cordyceps fungus (that's the real life zombie fungus that The Last of Us used too, it's a real thing that turns insects into zombies) And we know Deathblight existed BEFORE Godwyn died because there's Deathblight in Faram Azula. Which isn't connected to the mainland and therefore it can't spread through Erdtree roots. In fact that indicates to me that something Dragons are doing is causing Deathblight to happen... And it just so happens that our boy Godwyn is Extremely close with at least one Dragon and is a member of the Dragon Communion church. Therefore I surmise that it's actually Dragon Communion or another such Dragon ritual (IMO it's deathbed companionship) that causes the Deathblight to happen. And THAT caused someone (Marika) to try to Assassinate Godwyn. Anyway that's my Tedtalk Fia is Fortissax. Have a good one homie.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Eyes of Death that the DS1 Basilisks dropped. It was the gravekeeper covenant item but also seemed to possibly be a link to the Godwyn's eyes, if not directly at least in theme.
Something I find interesting about the basilisk's "curse" effect is that it feels like they reset their victims to a primordial state To explain that The world of dark souls started out as a world of stone (crag trees and dragons included) so their curse turn you into a stone of sort (crystal) While the ones in lands between turn you into a tree since most lifeforms in elden ring are derived from the great crucible/Erdtree
I totally forgot that they dropped basilisk eyes in ds1 and also maybe the orange eys they have now indicate that the cycle they came from originally has now been burned away by the frenzy flame
I think maybe Basilisks aren't affected by Scarlet Rot because Death is more like a primordial force, rather than the influence of an Outer God? Like Death kills the pestilence of Scarlet Rot. But I think Godwyn is a strange case, because he isn't dead in body but seemingly an overflowing abundance of infectious life. Life without purpose, life without control, mutating and growing and spreading, even resurrecting skeletons and other creatures. The power of a Demigod without any thought or soul behind it, not even able to move or speak, just some kind of natural primordial instinct. Exactly like the Scarlet Rot.
That is an interesting theory. It's almost as if there's a push and pull between deathblight's cancerous growths and scarlet rots decay. One eats the flesh, the other grows inside the flesh.
The basilisks being unaffected by the rot is incredibly interesting. It's not because they are mineral life, like the dragons, because crystalians can be overtaken by the rot. Are the undead affected by rot? do the rot zombies even count as undead? they were not resurrected by deathroot, like the skeletons were, they just never died. Are the Basilisks innately undead? So many questions...
Thats what i found super intriguing as well, because as you said, even fucking crystallians are affected by it, and the rot zombies are created by the rot and marikas binding of the root of death, the blood zombies are similarly not ressurected by deathroot, theres also those zombies in the shaded keep and the ones on the weeping coast that also seem like theyre just heavily deteriated people that are unable to die due to the rune of death being bound. But like you said i think we can count on one hand the enemy types that are unaffected by scarlet rot(besides spirits)
As beings so thoroughly corrupted by death, it's possible that the scarlet rot, which is an embodiment of life run amok, cannot really take hold in them, any of it's spores dying off before the infection can take over. Those who live in death don't really have a connection to death like the basilisks do, they're just a result of the broken rune of death, while the basilisks can cause death blight. I don't think there's any worm faces in caelid but I reckon they'd be immune to the rot as well.
Bro you are killing me with the “upcoming Aldia video” every time 😭 I’m dying waiting for it. Maybe since he’s so significant to you and the lore it would be best to do multiple video parts on him? Keep up the great work regardless though man! Appreciate your efforts
People assume Miquella wanted to ressurect Godwyn out of love for his brother, but Maybe Godwyn was supposed to be the original king consort, before he landed on the idea of Radahn?
I thought this too...that miquella simply wanted godwyn's soul to survive in death such that it could be placed into a new vessel and revived, as written in the secret rite!
I feel like the thematic overlaps between all of the various Fromsoft properties allows for an interpretation of them all existing loosely within one universe, especially considering the time shenanigans that are known to happen in many of them. I don't think it would be possible to absolutely tie them together into one timeline, but I absolutely see them as being spiritually connected in a way that allows for the interpretation you've described here.
I love that, like Patches, Basilisks have almost become a mascot of Soulsborne, Similar to the Metroids. Perfectly encapsulates the unforgiving nature of the world. And also has a cool/creepy design. Wish they showed up in BB and Sekiro but yeah
I'm 5 min in and I felt it was worth mentioning an interesting interaction in Dark souls 1. Apparently the power within spell depletes your health based on a percentage. So if you are heavily cursed it's easy to counter the dps with regen. I think that the red teardrop ring also activates based on the curse's effect if your current max hp is low enough. I only mention this because it seems like an intentional interaction, possibly linking chaos with the curse.
You mentioned earlier that the breathe colored differed for the 2 locations you find them in DS1 but I think thats an area shading issue, if you can call it that, bc I once did an enemy randomizer and those guys who have those huge boulders in Blighttown appeared near in the graves next to Firelink Shrine and their boulders are a bright purple. Also I always figured Fortisax became corrupted by Deathblight thus turning into a Lichdragon either as a result of the Eclipse ritual not accounting for an ancient dragon being inside him OR the dragons seeming to have the ability to adapt to their environment either by eating a certain element or being around it like Smarag with glintstone or Borealis with ice. I love your "crackpot" theories, I think we become to sterile with our thoughts on games and we need some crazy stories, I thought about making a vid like this on Basilisks and how they're associated with filth and disease similar to roaches and rats and it may have been a missed opportunity to have some placed in the Black Gulch.
My thought on the timeline? The first flame sprouting caused duality. And in doing so created two timelines. The dark souls one, where an age of dark would eventually come, and Elden ring, where golden light would supposedly last forever. Part of that is because our given goal in each requires preventing those from being. We try to prolong the age of fire, we do everything possible to become Elden lord, including burning the erdtree
I have a theory that the Duke worked with Aldia. Something about the Duke having a tiny model of that item you find in the no man's wharf ship makes me think that your observation of the sand basilisk has credence to it.
A video about an Elden Ring Enemy and it's lore with an Intro featuring Dark Souls gameplay, music from Zelda and a monologue from my beloved Witcher 3 Amazing Intro
This has nothing to do with the actual content of the video, but what I appreciate most of your videos is that you don't have any cringey voice affectations or nauseatingly fake accents to peddle your videos. You just talk like a normal dude. You and Smoughtown being maybe the only ones lmfao.
@@dauntethomas5594 its not the fact i hate their real accents, its the annoying, low whisper voice they do to sound mysterious. Its grating. Thats why I said smoughtown, an obvious European, talks normal.
An interesting fact about basilisks in Elden Ring is that they become non hostile in the presence of a beast repellent torch. Their false eyes quiver, and they jump away frightened from the flame. Maybe the false eyes are filled with a gas to make them appear as eyes?
Y'know who I miss? Tarnished Archaeologist... Only a single upload since the DLC dropped. Really bums me out, as I always found his observations to be so goddamn intriguing.
Infa cooked a lump of charcoal w/ his Godwyn and Miquella videos. Infa is a bit weird, sometimes, he makes good lore videos, other times, he proposes just the most out of the blue stuff. I think Hawkshaw, Smoughtown, and Honored Madman are a cut above him in that regard, no offene to him, though.
I’m a big fan of cryptids so I absolutely adored this video! In fantasy lore Basilisks are commonly associated with water snakes/lizards as well as water dragons (GRRM even gives them a Lovecraftian twang in GoT with the Basilisk Isles,) so I was pleasantly surprised by their addition to the DLC. It made the omnipresent theme about the dangers of stagnancy much more visceral to me if I’m making any sense 😅
Godwyn the Golden, I believe, was called such because he had the perfect Crucible capability. The ultimate Crucible warrior, he could project a golden magical chimera of a Dragon like the knights do a single tail or wings, or frog flame belly. This would have a Lion Head with a mane, fish scales and tail, only two wings. Reminds me more of an eastern dragon. He defeated Gransax as this Golden Glowing Crucible Dragon, showing the Tree Sentinels that the only way to protect from the great dragons, was to become dragons, setting the Golden Dragon onto their helmets.
Might just be me being silly, but the full image of the death rune looks like an eclipse, which is both how Miquella tries to resurrect Godwyn and a sign of the undead as mentioned in the video
I know you want to be putting up content pretty regularly. However, I still haven't been able to play the DLC and since I love watching your stuff, i've been glad I don't have to watch spoilers to continue enjoying this channel. So I bet it does suck having delay, but I wanted to tell ya that even big bummers can have a good side, even if it's not immediately apparent
Basiliks are older than Dark Souls. They appeared in Demon's Souls originally. I played the remake of Demon's Souls a few years ago and remmeber seeing them there. I never played another FrontSoft game until Elden Ring. Unless they were retroactively added in the remake, they come form Demon's Souls.
I heard in another lore related video about the curse of bayle. Who ever kills bayle and consumes his heart is bound to turn into him after eons. So maybe this curse brought the and of the lands between an everything with it. The new Eldenlord turning into a dragon, burning the world and only the ancient stone dragons or their descendents left for a time. Until the flame or Bayles remains turn up again, being interwoven with humanity or the pygmy. A Flame that can't be extinguished. Maybe the first flame is also a part of this fire, but another element of Bayle. Maybe his soul was split or it took all things that it burned into itself. Meaning death, grace, magic and what not. Maybe the flame even merged with the frenzied flame. While the frenzied flame is more flued by pity, bayles Flame is fueld by hate and revenge. But their goals are the same. At least at first. So they fight after burning the world. Bayle lets Things come into existence to crush them again. But the Frenzied flame tries to put them out of their misery in vain. So it is still a cycle. That's hoe I would explain it, but Idk
I had no idea you could find your old cursed remains in ds1. It did only happen to me maybe once or twice, but I must've not realized what I was seeing. Noice
I apologize for being "that asshole," but I simply can't help myself... So just so you know, it's actually " 𝘧 𝙞 𝙚 𝘯 𝘥 𝘪 𝘯 𝘨 ."* Knowledge is power, and all that. Also, I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and bet that you should probably hydrate, rave buddy 🤙 Speaking from experience lol
(Your outro is my intro before starting your videos so sorry for the my mad ramblings below lol) I think the basilisks are pretty much like the Kindred of Rot spawning from places where there is sufficient build up their element. In the Land of Shadow we encounter Basilisks in two places. One is a Catacomb that ends in a Death Knight battle, which of course has the not-Godwyn Godwyn corpse at the end. I didn't really expect to see any signs of Deathblight in the Land of Shadows because the timeline kinda adds up that Godwyn was still Golden around the time the land was cut off. How did his Death Knights even get there? The other place is Rauh, spawned by a hidden Dancing Lion. The Divine Beast barfing Basilisk justify them having some presence in the Land of Shadow. I feel like this implies Deathblight was a Divine Element at one point that now is twisted not unlike what happened with the Scarlet Rot. If that last point is true, combined with some other descriptions I think the Crusade was the point things became totally F'd for the Erdtree Order. Messmer's flame corrupted divine forces as he destroyed the Land of Shadow creating the threat of Outer Gods. Reading all Romina related items paints a picture: Romina, after the Church of the Bud was burned (flower worshippers?(Miranda Flower connection? Remember the cut flower crucible?)) Romina found a twisted divine element she weaved into the Scarlet Rot. This indicates Romina created the Scarlet Rot in the hopes of preserving the sacred buds (Flower worshipper).Romina's weapon art was once considered a sacred act of purification, this implies before Messmer the Bud was a cleansing force. (Is this what happened to the Red element that was once part of the Crucible and Gold that is mentioned in Crucible Knight armor?) Keeping it going: The Outer God Heirloom summarizes Messmer burned a whole clans way of life down and in the shadow of his destruction they found a twisted Deity when they looked to their Tutelary (we know Messmer destroyed these as he pass through) Near the Prospect Village, where we find the Heirloom, we can find the Tutelary in the remains of burned down shack. If I was a betting man I think the inherent darkness within Messmer and his flame corrupted these two previously benevolent/benign forces in an attempt to destroy them and turned them into the Scarlet Rot and Formless Mother respectively. Did the Crusade spawn 4 out 5 of Leyndells future woes: The Omen Curse (Grandam seems to imply this), rise of Scarlet Rot, rise of the Formless Mother (not directly a woe but when another god shows up in a monotheistic system trouble follows), the corruption of Deathblight. Nanaya and Midra are to blame for Frenzy showing up so Messmer get's a pass there.
Idk how this came up twice in a single video's comments, but... Fuck it, I'm just gonna copy-paste what I said on the other comment: I apologize for being "that asshole," but I simply can't help myself. So just so you know, it's actually " 𝘧 𝙞 𝙚 𝘯 𝘥 𝘪 𝘯 𝘨 ."* Knowledge is power, and all that. Seriously, what are the chances..? 🤔
What if consuming Baylee’s heart (and it eventually consuming the player) lead to the age of the ancient dragons, leading into the timeline of Dark souls 1?
Respectfully, elden ring is not tied to dark souls or bloodebourne and frankly it shouldnt be. Both for lore and for world building. Other than that point i think your video is spot on
I also dont believe Bloodborne is tied to Dark souls. Or Sekiro to Dark souls or bloodebourne. The only thing that ties them together is the company that made the games and they can and often do share assets. But as far as the lore and world setting. 100 percent completely different things. It's kind of like when people try to tie the fallout world to elder scrolls simply because they have a few references to each other or share assets or are made by the same company. That's just silly and frankly kind of dumb. Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and Warcraft arent in the same universe just because they are made by the same company and sometimes share assets or ideas.
I personally dont like the idea that theyre directly connected either, i was only throwing those out there for the folks that like to follow the theory, it was mainly an excuse to cover the basilisks, i even mentioned that theres so many ways to disprove it. The bloodborne thing as well, i didnt want to get too off topic on i just didnt want to not mention that i was aware of the theory.
I believe Fortissax might not have been trying to 'Cure' godwyn necesarily. I believe Fortissax might have just entered godwyns dreams to try to slow down his body from mutating into a montrosity to give Godwyn some dignity in his curent state. Obviosly he failed however since godwyn is now a monstrosity and Fortissax himself isint looking too good. Seemingly having black Coral bursting out from his body and his once grey skin is now Black. Also nice catch on Basilisks and Godwyns eyes having an Eclipse in them. Also one reason why most likely Castle Sol was suposed to resurect Godwyn specificly is the Eclipse Shotel that we find in the little Church area inside Castle Sol. It makes a Cloud of death blight and covers the shotel in Death Blight aswell. Its also a legendary arnament so you cant even say its just a random weapon they put there. Deathblight specificly is related to Godwyn and no other character. So it whould be wierd to find this deathblight related legendary weapon in a place ment to resurect a gods soul... to not be linked to Godwyn the Father of deathblight. Also also also Godwyns body is atleast somewhat concious. If we attack Fia, Godwyn will actually Attack us by sending Death Rancor skulls towards us. And Fia even comments on Godwyn being the one doing it and not her.
When this Aldia video finally drops I'm gonna struggle with the urge to replay the entirety of DS2. Have you played Lords of the Fallen (2024)? That game feels very intentionally influenced by DS2, down to an upgraded version of the Pursuer (in the form of the Lightreaper). I think a comparison of the two would be really interesting.
You forgot about the fact that in dark souls 1 nito was the first of the dead. And the basilisk’s dropped his covenant item; the eyes of death. Death didn’t exist before nito
Huh i actually dont remember the big basilisk in the cave in woods in ds2 and i have 900 hours in it i genuinely thought I knew every enemy placement and item in that game.... Guess we learn something new every day Ok regarding the elden ring coming before dark souls should by all means be wrong... It is implied in multiple dialogues and item descriptions that demon souls came before dark souls 1 it will take a long time to explain but yea if you pay attention to the story dark souls is a straight up sequel to demon souls But as for where elden ring fits in... Who knows ? Maybe the painting ? Bloodborne is way too disconnected to be the painting so yea
I simply have to say this; the basilisks in DS1 absolutely do have lore. They’re lizard-like creatures that have the ability to turn you to crystal, and they’re in the sewers and the route to Ash Lake. The sewers house the gaping dragon, and Ash Lake houses the stone dragon. Death the Scaleless is a character associated with lizard creatures and crystals who has a vested interest in protecting dragons and a history of creating monsters, thus there are some crystal powered lizard monsters on the way to both Ancient Dragon kin in the game. The lore of DS1 is probably the tightest and most interconnected in the series, I loved the video but the descriptions of DS1 as “not really detailed” or “they’re figuring the lore out” kinda struck me
I think the reason Basilisks don't do physical damage in the games is tied to their design. they have big false eyes, which in nature are for intimidation. They are all bark and no bite. As for a lore reason why they can in Dark Souls 2, it is because DS2 rarely gets anything right.
I like that it kept me on my toes. The first time i played 2 and got jumped by basilisks it surprised the fuck out of me, so thst was an effective surprise if nothing else
Regarding the basilisks of Dark souls 2, I completely refuse to believe that their design follows the same world building principles and rules that miyazaki put in place for the Dark souls series, the whole of the monsters of Dark souls 2 have this arcade like and weird design pattern that matches more with what you would expect out of an average bandai namco title than it is related to Dark souls, I think it really shows that this is the one game that Miyazaki wasn't personally involved in.
i kinda hate how different dark souls 2 is from the scholar of the first sin version. i bought the guid book for it and now not that i need to but if iwanted to use it it would be mostly worthless cuz its so different
I'm almost certain Godrick is a decendent of Godwyn and Fortissax. Godrick claims decent from Dragons during his cutscene... (Before the comments, Fortissax's sex is deliberately obfuscated… which should be a 🚩that something is off.) Check it out. So Godwyn is one of the Trio that creates the Dragon Communion Church. Godwyn, Lancennax, and Fortissax (and possibly Vyke too but theres no evidence he was a FOUNDER like the others were) Vykes Dragonbolt and Golden Dragonbolt incantations indicate the spells work because the love between the Dragon and the Caster. Right? And we know Vyke and Lancennax were a couple. And we know there was one other couple, because the GOLDEN dragonbolt spell exists. Any guesses on who might fit that description? Do we have a GOLDEN associated individual who may be friends with a gender non-specific Draconic being? Yeah Godwyn and Fortissax fit the bill perfectly. And the idea that the Royal line would pass to the hated enemy the Dragons... Might just be enough motivation to see someone stabbed in the back...
Oh yeah i know it has em i just havent ever tried em out in it. Ds2 and elden ring were like the only two where i could main a whip the entire time and enjoy it

@@frankgrimes7388 Elden Ring is its own universe though. The basilisks are not the same basilisks from dark souls.
Dosnt matter if its its on universe or not.Its the same ones in dark souls.
Infused with the humble prayer of a young boy; "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death."
It is found in Auriza's hero grave, full of Skeletal Militiamen, militiamen who live in Death, the fate of those who come in contact with Deathroot, and the Basilisks.
So it would be prudent to assume that Godwyn is the souless demigod that is the intended recipient of the Eclipse Ritual.
Am I misreading or did you just rediscover how Godwyn was killed?
Yes. Unambiguously.
(Also one of the only weapons that deals extra Damage to Those Who Live in Death)
Auriza means "Golden" In Latin.
(Thought who gave the order is very much up for debate, but it's not the conversation we're having)
Though if you pay attention, the painting we see with the assassins carving the Cursemark on his back ...
They don't want Godwyn to be taken over by what closely resembles Cordyceps fungus (that's the real life zombie fungus that The Last of Us used too, it's a real thing that turns insects into zombies)
And we know Deathblight existed BEFORE Godwyn died because there's Deathblight in Faram Azula.
Anyway that's my Tedtalk
Fia is Fortissax. Have a good one homie.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Eyes of Death that the DS1 Basilisks dropped. It was the gravekeeper covenant item but also seemed to possibly be a link to the Godwyn's eyes, if not directly at least in theme.
Damn i forgot all about those its been ages since i saw one in my inventory haha
Something I find interesting about the basilisk's "curse" effect is that it feels like they reset their victims to a primordial state
To explain that
The world of dark souls started out as a world of stone (crag trees and dragons included) so their curse turn you into a stone of sort (crystal)
While the ones in lands between turn you into a tree since most lifeforms in elden ring are derived from the great crucible/Erdtree
19:58 he is conscious. He attacks you with a rancor spell if you hit fia when she’s sitting in front of him
There is a consciousness yes, it's just not "him"
I totally forgot that they dropped basilisk eyes in ds1 and also maybe the orange eys they have now indicate that the cycle they came from originally has now been burned away by the frenzy flame
Do you mean the eye of death you can give to Nito?
@@Blockvardyes he does
I think maybe Basilisks aren't affected by Scarlet Rot because Death is more like a primordial force, rather than the influence of an Outer God?
Lol i know, its like an albatross on my head but its the next significant video for realzys this time
Lmaoo I know man, lil bro has been hinting at that vid for almost a year now💀
People assume Miquella wanted to ressurect Godwyn out of love for his brother, but Maybe Godwyn was supposed to be the original king consort, before he landed on the idea of Radahn?
Hello honored madman nice video can't wait to see this channel explode with subs you deserve it
My thought on the timeline?
The first flame sprouting caused duality. And in doing so created two timelines. The dark souls one, where an age of dark would eventually come, and Elden ring, where golden light would supposedly last forever.
Part of that is because our given goal in each requires preventing those from being. We try to prolong the age of fire, we do everything possible to become Elden lord, including burning the erdtree
The child starts stuff and never finishes it. He just gave up
I have a theory that the Duke worked with Aldia. Something about the Duke having a tiny model of that item you find in the no man's wharf ship makes me think that your observation of the sand basilisk has credence to it.

I believe the basilisks of Elden Ring are the literal offspring of Godwyn and priestesses of the Dragon Cult corrupted by their father's soul's death.

An interesting fact about basilisks in Elden Ring is that they become non hostile in the presence of a beast repellent torch. Their false eyes quiver, and they jump away frightened from the flame. Maybe the false eyes are filled with a gas to make them appear as eyes?

16:25 the twilight princess ost was such a perfect deicision
I’m a big fan of cryptids so I absolutely adored this video! In fantasy lore Basilisks are commonly associated with water snakes/lizards as well as water dragons (GRRM even gives them a Lovecraftian twang in GoT with the Basilisk Isles,) so I was pleasantly surprised by their addition to the DLC. It made the omnipresent theme about the dangers of stagnancy much more visceral to me if I’m making any sense 😅
More crackpot theories please
We need a whole video on the basilisk glue timeline theory even if it’s just theory crafting and possible to disprove
Love the explanation of death in the lands between
Godwyn the Golden, I believe, was called such because he had the perfect Crucible capability.
There's a species of lizard called basilisk irl.
And funnily enough it can run on water as well as a way to escape predators
Might just be me being silly, but the full image of the death rune looks like an eclipse, which is both how Miquella tries to resurrect Godwyn and a sign of the undead as mentioned in the video
3:00 I think the water running may be a reference to the real life animal known as a basilisk which has the curious ability to run on water.
I know you want to be putting up content pretty regularly. However, I still haven't been able to play the DLC and since I love watching your stuff, i've been glad I don't have to watch spoilers to continue enjoying this channel.

Oh, the furtive Aldia Video, so easily forgotten...
Noice

I think the basilisks are pretty much like the Kindred of Rot spawning from places where there is sufficient build up their element.
(Is this what happened to the Red element that was once part of the Crucible and Gold that is mentioned in Crucible Knight armor?)
Keeping it going: The Outer God Heirloom summarizes Messmer burned a whole clans way of life down and in the shadow of his destruction they found a twisted Deity when they looked to their Tutelary (we know Messmer destroyed these as he pass through) Near the Prospect Village, where we find the Heirloom, we can find the Tutelary in the remains of burned down shack.
For a suggestion for a short video: What the hell is the pagan tree in shulva.

What if consuming Baylee’s heart (and it eventually consuming the player) lead to the age of the ancient dragons, leading into the timeline of Dark souls 1?
It is a international tragedy that the original version of dark souls 2 is gone to the ether. It should be a holiday, a day of mourning.
My 2 leading theories for the origin of these things in Elden Ring is 1) Reusing assets to save time and money, and 2) Fan service.
Agree with all your points
I was even gonna make a comment about how since rats are in all of them that the must be connected lol. My stoned ass forgot tho
Im kinda surprised we didnt get an evolved version of basilisks in dark souls 3 like how we did for crystal lizards
RDRO Gameplay? wild. I remember carrying a dead lizard across New Austin on foot with a friend by myside. Good times.
I always wondered why the 2nd lion dancer in elden ring can summon the basilisk.
We are so back
When this Aldia video finally drops I'm gonna struggle with the urge to replay the entirety of DS2.
Have you played Lords of the Fallen (2024)? That game feels very intentionally influenced by DS2, down to an upgraded version of the Pursuer (in the form of the Lightreaper). I think a comparison of the two would be really interesting.
Square has Moogles and Cactuar and From has death frogs. Seems on brand.
So could the abyssal serpent be a extinction of the abyss in darksouls
You forgot about the fact that in dark souls 1 nito was the first of the dead. And the basilisk’s dropped his covenant item; the eyes of death. Death didn’t exist before nito
Oooo red room outro 🤔 Madman: perhaps some Twin Peaks episode reviews in the future?
Huh i actually dont remember the big basilisk in the cave in woods in ds2 and i have 900 hours in it i genuinely thought I knew every enemy placement and item in that game.... Guess we learn something new every day
Ok regarding the elden ring coming before dark souls should by all means be wrong... It is implied in multiple dialogues and item descriptions that demon souls came before dark souls 1 it will take a long time to explain but yea if you pay attention to the story dark souls is a straight up sequel to demon souls
But as for where elden ring fits in... Who knows ? Maybe the painting ? Bloodborne is way too disconnected to be the painting so yea
Hey I just started puffing that viridian
Certain enemies are immune to scarlet rot for mysterious reasons. like, why are crucible knights immune to it?
I believe they still have the original version on steam
RAHHHHHH ALDIA VIDEO MENTIONED WTF IS BEING A RELEASED VIDEO
I simply have to say this; the basilisks in DS1 absolutely do have lore. They’re lizard-like creatures that have the ability to turn you to crystal, and they’re in the sewers and the route to Ash Lake. The sewers house the gaping dragon, and Ash Lake houses the stone dragon. Death the Scaleless is a character associated with lizard creatures and crystals who has a vested interest in protecting dragons and a history of creating monsters, thus there are some crystal powered lizard monsters on the way to both Ancient Dragon kin in the game. The lore of DS1 is probably the tightest and most interconnected in the series, I loved the video but the descriptions of DS1 as “not really detailed” or “they’re figuring the lore out” kinda struck me
You should do a video on how death works in Elden ring. Like why is everyone zombies?
I think the reason Basilisks don't do physical damage in the games is tied to their design. they have big false eyes, which in nature are for intimidation. They are all bark and no bite. As for a lore reason why they can in Dark Souls 2, it is because DS2 rarely gets anything right.
I like that it kept me on my toes. The first time i played 2 and got jumped by basilisks it surprised the fuck out of me, so thst was an effective surprise if nothing else
they actually have physical attacks in DS3, just their AI doesnt use them often
I think the lands between is the land between all the souls born games
Exactly what I wanted
welcome back, bro
Wait they have little eyes that are their actual eyes?!

Oh…they’re in Dark Souls too? Great…and I had just gotten back into Dark Souls 1.

Curse is a separate status from the petrification basiliks inflict on you in DS2 🤨
And there was another giant basilisk just before Najika in vanilla DS2...
I'm almost certain Godrick is a decendent of Godwyn and Fortissax. Godrick claims decent from Dragons during his cutscene...
(Before the comments, Fortissax's sex is deliberately obfuscated… which should be a 🚩that something is off.)
Check it out.
So Godwyn is one of the Trio that creates the Dragon Communion Church. Godwyn, Lancennax, and Fortissax (and possibly Vyke too but theres no evidence he was a FOUNDER like the others were)
Vykes Dragonbolt and Golden Dragonbolt incantations indicate the spells work because the love between the Dragon and the Caster.
They are older than Godwyn and the scorpion catacombs prove that
I'm not sure why you think you cant buy DS2 original anymore it's literally just on steam?
Dark souls1 has a few whips. They're decent parry tools, strangely enough. =)
Oh yeah i know it has em i just havent ever tried em out in it. Ds2 and elden ring were like the only two where i could main a whip the entire time and enjoy it
