Something about Demi Humans I always found interesting and like to think about. The mini Demi humans, what I’d assume to be children, carry knifes that by Demi human standards are the cleanest and largest knives possible. Compared to chieftains this is notable, as chieftains carry knifes of the worst quality, bearing rust, cracks, stains, and poor size. It says something about Demi human culture that there’s an effort to prioritize the ability for their children to defend themselves, and less so the adults or elders. The adults work with less so the children have more of a fighting chance. There’s also some practicality in this in that if a child injures themselves with a dirty or old knife, they’ll likely contract a disease or infection and perish. While a clean knife wound will heal with less difficulty. As im rather sure that Demi humans may not necessarily be eyes on 24/7 kinds of parents.
This comment got me thinking: that the rusted knife the chieftains carry WERE their clean pristine knives as children. They keep the same knife they had as a child through adulthood, as they age, so does their blade
Thank you for this comment. It made me feel happy and also remember why examining small details in this and other souls titles is so enriching. It’s because you can be mostly sure that details like this aren’t an accident. It’s at least reasonable to imagine that the FS team put in thought about what weapons enemies carry and why. In fact I would argue this is a tried and true hallmark of FS storytelling. We may never know what and how and why the Demis are but there’s enough there to grab on to and find artistic meaning in it.
@@JackisaMimic it’s possible? But the difference in handle, and otherwise generally kept shape of the blood stained one has me thinking probably not. Rather they probably scavenge an assortment of knives, and of them sort out the cleaner and better ones, and dole them out accordingly.

Kenneth mentions that he had made strides in forging a peace with the demi-humans, which would explain why there are dead ones at the fort. Godrick probably sent a group of his knights, empowered by his dealings with Mohg (as Mohg as been busy making deals of his own) to seige the fort. Kenneth mentions after the fort is reclaimed that he will have to redo his efforts on brokering peace with the demi humans again. Its probable that Kenneth had a partnership with the Queen, using them as his own servants and "knights," in exchange for a fortified living space for the Queen and the demi humans. When the fort was taken, the queen was slain, causing Kenneth, and possibly the war chiefs, to flee.
Kenneth is underrated. He's no fighter and a bit too puffed up. But he's all around a good man. When I become Elden Lord, he will be part of my counsel as a diplomat.

About the demi-humans going feral at night, there are two possible explanations: either (1) they go red-eyed because they're not exposed to the sun, or (2) they go red-eyed because they're being exposed to the stars/moon. imo I think the second option is way more likely, since when demi-humans are underground we can clearly see they AREN'T red-eyed, meaning that sunlight probably has nothing to do with it. As for why the presence of the moon/stars makes them feral, who knows. Maybe miyazaki gave them some unseen lore that makes them a wierd parody to Werewolves (it wouldn't be the first time we've seen that in a fromsoft game), or maybe their minds are being torn between two different forces at night, like Blaidd is when he goes red-eyed (like maybe the moon and the greater will are fighting to mind-control them or something). Like you said in the vid, we don't have any definite answers, but since we know from the gameplay trailer and promo art that both the moon and demi-humans will appear in the dlc, there's a good chance we get some.
That's a well-spotted possible connection between the Bloodhound Knights and Demi-Humans, it would make sense if they had a shared origin. The Demi-Humans being descendants of the Sun Realm civilisation would be quite something! I wish we got to communicate with the Demi-Humans in Fort Haight after Kenneth Haight moves back in there, that would've been a fun way to learn more about their culture as well.
I think that the dead Queen in Fort Haight is the reason for the Demi-human uprising. Kenneth Haight negotiated a treaty with the Demi-humans, where they would be safe but do a lot of menial labour. But the Blood Knight, like his boss Godrick, despises "lesser beings" so when the Demi-human Queen came around asking what happened to Kenneth the Knight just killed her and dumped her body in the lobby. Obviously, murdering a diplomat is a violation of Kenneth's treaty, if not an actual war crime, and the Demi-humans are rightly outraged and are fighting back.

the glowing pink/purple eyes are indication that they are under a charm spell. What force has gone around and charmed a bunch of Demihuman Queens? Currently it's only the bewitching branch and iirc Nox ant riders can re-charm their mounts once you separate them but the Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay trailer has a moment depicting what I believe to be a mass charm spell so we might see more of that.
“A Dream of String” title made me chuckle. Great video, love these type of in depth looks at the enemy placement and what it means. Never noticed the dead queen at ft haight. Cheers

Haven't started the video yet but ur demi human vid has been a long wait for me cause i think they are the next step of evolution in the lands between, excited to see your prospective on it
Something interesting to note is that Demi-Human clothing seems to be made from Rock Lizard hide, similar to the Scale Armor Set obtainable by the player at the merchant in the central Weeping Peninsula. Rock Lizards are not seen anywhere in the game but are presumably some wildlife that mainly lives underground, maybe it will be a wildlife enemy in Shadow of the Erdtree?
The Queens' purple eyes look very similar to those of the giant ants that are being ridden around by the Nox. I think that this implies that the Queens are also under some sort of mind control; because those ants definitely don't want to be ridden around and they will actually kill their riders if the rider is knocked off.
Another great catch. I forgot about the ants although i did cover how theyre being magically pacified to serve their riders in my nox video. But thats super interesting the queens could very well be under a spell, margot and gilika at the very least. Maggies eyes dont glow but then again she has the disicples of azur on her side
Really love the video.Always awesome how you go into detail on such overlooked characters. I was hoping you'd give a lot more speculation on Boc's mother.I have a theory that she was groomed to be queen that was the one on good relations with lord Kenneth but then killed in some kind civil war.
When the giant ants are being controlled by the Nox and rode like a steed, the ants have purple eyes, the same shade as the Demi-Human Queens. Are the Demi-Human Queens with purple eyes being controlled by someone else?
Thank you, sometimes i feel like i got to off the resevervation with some of them but i just love referencing stuff i love when i can make it fit in an intro. But i really appreciate it, a surprising amount of effort goes into the intro haha
I feel that the dead queen is Boc's mother. So considering Boc's statements and the questline, I would assume those chiefs abandoned her in favor of subjugating a portion of the tribe for themselves.
Did you see Zullie the Witch's recent video about Hounds of Tindalos? Apparently they are beasts from the Call of Cthulu Mythos and they are supposed to live in the, "angles of time," and hunt down time travelers by emerging from anything with a sharp enough angle, emerging like a cloud of smoke. Well This was relevant to Dark Souls3 because the hound-like beast with it's rib-cage exposed is named Tindalosu. So it's apparently quite clearly a reference to the Lovecraftian hounds. Zullie went on to say that the outrider knights were also likely inspired by the same beasts. I think she didn't go far enough because the watchdog of the Old Gods in Bloodborne is also probably inspired by the same beasts. I also suspect that the Shadow-bound beasts and bloodhound knights might also be inspired from the same story. Particularly Maliketh. The Bloodhound knights also remind me a little of the Roman Festival Lupercalia, where naked men would run into the woods to pretend to be wolves. I bring this up because I love the connection you made between the demi humans and the bloodhound knights. I've always suspected that the demi humans were a quite literal example of a partial transition from beast to human. To me the Bloodhound knights always seemed to be an example of a similar transition but I never realized how similar they are. Blidd to seems to be just on the verge of become a human with his more human eyes and patches of fur that look like human skin. All very cool. =)
Probably my favorite group in the whole game but I felt like they were short-changed. I felt sympathy for them as a group but they were mostly pushovers in battle. They're one of the few that have night reactions, but it's interesting to see who else reacts to the night. Suggests the absence of the "sun" may mean something
I totally feel it. My favorites enemy group is the vulgar militia, i almost want to do another video on them to go into further depth, but i totally agree the demi humans really felt short changed, not a whole lot of lore you can read, not many item descriptions, so i kinda had to base it mainly on where theyre found
@@TheHonoredMadman Almost feel like they were early in conception as just an antagonist group and then other stuff got built on top. The potential Farum overlap feels that way to me too but hard to say where things really started. Hope they get more attention going forward. The vulgar militia are interesting, was thinking about them recently and their strange helmets. Made me think of the furtive pygmy, actually :) I fought them pretty early because I wound up at the Beast Temple shortly after starting. Plenty of runes, plenty of getting one-shotted for my wimpy character
Also I feel like I missed out on some of the game with your analysis of the environmental storytelling. I've picked up on some and made up my own stories for some of the encounters I've found, but the logical way you explain some of the NPC battles is just awesome. I can't wait to replay after this. Hope it's chill i commented again. I figure it helps boost the channel though
Been going full schizo lately with the double helix. Miquella’s braid Marika’s braid Radagon’s braid The twinserpent of Mesmer The gilded greatshield (The red tinge in the gold coat mirrors the PRIMORDIAL MATTER THAT BECAME THE ERDTREE) the crucible tree armor The fingerslayer blade The crossed tree tower shield The godslayer great sword Elden stars incantation The bloody helice The Haligtree symbol And yes. Even fucking string. Why is this helix everywhere and yet attributed to nothing specific? I think back to the two serpents in DS1. One bent on invoking an age of dark, the other an age of fire. The fingerslayer blade is made from Melina’s infant body. Deformed…small… dagger sized. Radagon’s spine is 1:1 size with the sacred relic sword. The sword of Milos is 1:1 with a hypothetical undersized giant spine. We know Melina’s purpose was long ago lost, that she was born at the foot of the Erdtree but is now burned and bodiless. Marika gave birth to a deformed baby Melina, burned her black, then the eternal cities took the body and turned it into the fingerslayer blade, which is also their high treason. The godskin nobles and apostles are blasphemously somehow connected to snakes as seen from their tails, obsession with skin (which snakes shed, eg the windmill village folk “worshipping” by peeling skin off of people. And they’re all born from the gloam-eyed queen directly. So when Marika pulls what looks like Grace out of a vajayjay in the cinematic trailer, they’re not gonna have it be an ACTUAL vajayjay - it’s the eye of a giant serpent. (See video : The Gloam Eyed Queen is a Snake | Elden Ring DLC Speculation). --- Different topic: Isn’t it weird too that there’s two part human civilizations in the game with social hierarchies and one is directly tied to sorcery and the other directly tied to warrior/faith? I’m of course talking about the Demi humans and the misbegotten. But like… But like if the misbegotten are tied to Radagon and red hair and war, it seems like the Demi humans are tied to magic and…Marika? But like…. Where did they come from? Did Marika/Radagon bang the crucible and create a whole spectrum of humanoid creatures as the offspring?
the glowing eyes of the queens are probably a mix of the basic red eyes of the demihumans in night mixed with the carian sorceres being blue, blue + red = purple
Ever since I realised every single one of them roars before attacking, I've been wondering what is their connection between Godfrey, Dragons, and Trolls, all of whom do the same. Demihumans are so forgotten in lore discussions. Thanks for making this.
I think they’re somehow related to the martyrs crucified all over Limgrave and elsewhere, who are in turn linked to the Fell God. Firstly, the demihumans are afflicted with boiling blood at night (or even just out of the sun for an extended period; the purple eyes of certain queens I think reflects the intellect they possess alongside their animal rage). Similarly, the Martyrs come alive at night, screaming in agony while remaining unmoving charred corpses. The martyrs also often possess pointy ears, similar to the Demi humans. Their faces also look a bit odd. As for how they are tied to the Fell God, each and every single one is missing a foot. Specifically their right foot (our left), which is the same foot the fire giant...I’m not quite sure amputate is the right word, but it’s the same one he offers as tribute to awaken the Fell God residing within him. Now that I think about it, it’s also the same foot that we don’t see on the large Marika statues, as her right leg is posed behind her left, and remains concealed by her cloak. Not sure what exactly this means, but I don’t think it’s unintentional
Gloam Eyed Queen's of demi humans 👀👀👀 I really liked the connection to Blood Hound Knights, this maybe be their nature. P. S. On the Sun Realm. Most speculate it was around dragon times (so Beastman) or just after. That makes easier for demi HUMANS to be a "refined version" of Beastmen (or, more likely, a de-evolved version of humans following dragon society)
After watching this video i now realise how close demi-human and beastmen are so close even similar , like giants and trolls, so my theory is that these demi-humans are the beastmen offspring, remains of the sun realm ? So what you think ?
German here: The whole Kobold lizard/dog like appearance originated purely within Dungeons and Dragons. The word is really more of a german equivalent for Goblin, with the word Goblin often being translated as Kobold.
@dinofelis9343 that's cool to know. My references were from Anime and JRPGs, in D&D they look more like lizards, but JRPGs like star ocean or VP they look like humanoid dogs or even Hyenas sometimes, that's why I thought of them when I saw the Demi human chieftains or queens even Boc.
I finally started playing for myself and was surprised to not have seen videos on these guys before. Im of the opinion that the regular demi humans are sort of slave soldiers and a completely separate species to the chiefs/queens given they have the same sort of vibe as the Gostoc looking dudes. I also feel like them being called demi humans is supposed to cause us to think of our relationship to them and subsequently, how inferior a Demi god would be the outer/greater gods.

@@TheHonoredMadman I'm pretty sure any demi-human can be male or female lol And then they can breed the old fashioned way. Cabbage patches and shit 🤣 Maybe the DLC will come out and make a statement about this, but I'm pretty sure that would be Occam's Razor here.
The more I see the Demi human females, the more I think they're the result of what the golden order used them for. My theory is they used the females to syphon the death root after Godwyn fell. Their body and markings seem too similar to just write off as coincidence.

As such, the fact that many of them (myself included) love your work, should be a signal to you that you're doing it right.
Frankly, that is all I wanted to say, sorry if someone else reading this finds it cringe. But I will not edit or delete it because affirmations can be very pow'rful
My favorite lore master strikes again. Love it!
I love your intros that have old movies or games. Very nostalgic sometimes
that bong hit with the flying turtle had me burst in lauging madness style, thanks,
“Long and hard didst thou fight, Tarnished warrior. Be assured the Elden String resteth close at hand. Alas, this demihuman bears no tiny ropes!”
Aldia video about to go hard asf been waiting for that forever
AMAZING INTRO. THE BEST LORE UA-camR
Fk yeah
Been going full schizo lately with the double helix.
Miquella’s braid
Marika’s braid
Radagon’s braid
The twinserpent of Mesmer
The gilded greatshield (The red tinge in the gold coat mirrors the PRIMORDIAL MATTER THAT BECAME THE ERDTREE)
the crucible tree armor
The fingerslayer blade
The crossed tree tower shield
The godslayer great sword
Elden stars incantation
The bloody helice
The Haligtree symbol
And yes.

Different topic:
Isn’t it weird too that there’s two part human civilizations in the game with social hierarchies and one is directly tied to sorcery and the other directly tied to warrior/faith? I’m of course talking about the Demi humans and the misbegotten. But like… But like if the misbegotten are tied to Radagon and red hair and war, it seems like the Demi humans are tied to magic and…Marika?
But like…. Where did they come from? Did Marika/Radagon bang the crucible and create a whole spectrum of humanoid creatures as the offspring?
the glowing eyes of the queens are probably a mix of the basic red eyes of the demihumans in night mixed with the carian sorceres being blue, blue + red = purple
Weird, I never got notified about this video being uploaded. Either way, Banger vid as usual, Madman.
I’m power walking upon the strands of fate, Tarnished one.
The demi humans were an early game menace, then later I hunted them down like animals for their string. They got no mercy.
Stand before the Elden String and join the Demi-Human horde
Ever since I realised every single one of them roars before attacking, I've been wondering what is their connection between Godfrey, Dragons, and Trolls, all of whom do the same. Demihumans are so forgotten in lore discussions. Thanks for making this.
The giant bats too i believe
"Y'know the guy that made the strongest spell in the game." I don't know why but that part made me chuckle. 🤣
The Demi-Humans remind me of those tiny demons from the movie "The Gate."
I always assumed the demi-humans in fort haight belonged to kenneth and served him, since he mentions communing with demi-humans
string theory
i believe the pumpkin heads are also demi-humans
considering the creatures from mountaintops and caelid, the queens probably died
My man! He’s back baby.
Fuck yeah boi
Almost like he’s trying to make me feel bad for farming them…
I think they’re somehow related to the martyrs crucified all over Limgrave and elsewhere, who are in turn linked to the Fell God.
Elden String
Missed opportunity for me not titling it as such hahah
I wholeheartedly agree with ALL the things you said about Guy Ritchie and his work. Have you seen RocknRolla? Fabulous stuff.
Is it just me or do the Demi humans chieftain fight like the twin daggers from the dlc trailer in a reverse grip specifically idk though
If there is evolution going on, it's the ants, the astels. Something about ants in this game.
The demi humans with their eye colours and bestiality at night always seemed like cursed to me
might want to rephrase that
Madman's Aldia video > Dr Dre's Detox
The glowing purple eyes might indicated something similar to how the Nox ant riders ride ants that have glowing purple eyes?
Forgot all about the bewitched ants while making this.
I have no idea who it would be that has bewitched them but it looks like a similar effect
Boc ate a diet of pure soy beans.
After watching this video i now realise how close demi-human and beastmen are so close even similar , like giants and trolls, so my theory is that these demi-humans are the beastmen offspring, remains of the sun realm ? So what you think ?
The demi humans are the key to everything
Great video man
Honestly they look more like Kobolds than goblins, the humanoid wolf/dog like snouts is very reminiscent of how kobolds are portrayed in fantasy.
Totally. I was even reminded of the "Kobolds" that aldia has in front of his keep in Ds2
German here:
The whole Kobold lizard/dog like appearance originated purely within Dungeons and Dragons.
John: YOU EAT BABIES!!!!
God tier title reference. Also, i've 100%ed RDR2 and completed RDR1 but didn't quite 100% it. I'm not recalling what quest that Marston dialogue comes from. If anyone can gamerpill me, there's a thumbs up for ya in it
Its from the birth of a conservation movement stranger quest in undead nightmare
@@TheHonoredMadmannice i tried to play it but was disappointed it required online account to play. Heard it was really good so you can imagine i was bummed out since I was using my friends old ps3 and i didn't want to hassle him with finding/resetting an old password he hadn't thought of in like 8 years lol
"I wish they were 100% off" 😅
What is that intro audio from?
Red dead redemption undead nightmare side quest called the birth of a conservation movement
They're also among the only bipeds in the game not connected to the crucible? The others I can think of being humans and trolls, don't count onyx or alabaster lords cause they're aylmaos
lmao, love the red dead undead intro. damn shame they never made that dlc for RDR2
One of the greater tragedies in gaming
It's cannon.... John Marston is the elden lord
Can we get a chadfroy video
A dream of snake
honestly i think the beastmen and demihumans are the same race entirely, with the difference mainly being cultural
Cool vid bro.😺
Their name in japanese is subhuman
The chiefs are lemurs.
OOOOHHH ELDEN STRING
If there are any Demi-Human racists, how can you hate them when Boc is such a sweetheart? You just have to get to know some before you write off their entire race
a fal-chin
😐… YA EAT BAYBEES
Aldia hype
Wait, is this video not a joke?
Like... How do you know the normal demi-humans aren't female? You expect them to wear a dress or something 😅
If they're all female how do they breed tho
@@TheHonoredMadman I'm pretty sure any demi-human can be male or female lol
And then they can breed the old fashioned way. Cabbage patches and shit 🤣
Maybe the DLC will come out and make a statement about this, but I'm pretty sure that would be Occam's Razor here.
The more I see the Demi human females, the more I think they're the result of what the golden order used them for. My theory is they used the females to syphon the death root after Godwyn fell. Their body and markings seem too similar to just write off as coincidence.
