Seen them three times and this song was always the best song at each show.
Their best live song easily - very powerful being in a venue with several thousand people shouting Hail Satan - whether you believe it or not.

Saw them yesterday day and I can confirm that their starve presence is up there with the likes of Rammstein. The entire mood was electric as soon as they hit the stage.
No matter if you're religious or not you WILL vibe to this song no matter what. It's literally impossible to resist the urge to scream "HAIL SATAN" while this is playing.

I can confirm, Tobias when in costume remains in character. I asked him why so many great bands are from Sweden and he acted as though I was talking gibberish, since obviously Ghost are from some dark catacomb under the Vatican. As stated, this song live is FIRE 🔥

All of the names they were rattling off in the song are the names of Arch demons/demon Kings in demonology. They also are usually linked to a cardinal sin. Behemoth is the main exception on the list as it is a creature of primordial chaos instead of a demon.

The rest is from a book by King James VI of Scotland (AKA King James the First of England and Ireland, and also the King James referred to when someone has a "King James" version of the Bible). I am not an avid bible reader, but most of those names aren't even mentioned in it, I don't think.

@@olympiclasstitan3618 I believe in Paradise Lost, he's referred to as the Morning Star or most beloved of all angels before he fell. Think favored child that got into so much trouble that parents disown them kinda thing. He tried for the throne of Heaven with a band of followers that summed about 1/3 of all angels, iirc. They were ultimately defeated and exiled to what we consider Hell (I think Gehenna) forevermore or whenever they try to pick a fight. Satan I think was only mentioned a few times biblically. The book of Job is a fun read about he and God interacting.

There are two bands I will go see live every time they're in my area: Tool, and Ghost. You'll be hard pressed to find two better live performances than what Ghost does for Year Zero and Miasma.

Great story behind this song. It was from their 2nd album and they recoded it in Nashville, Tennessee when almost nobody had even heatd of them....well, except for the opening chants. They were turned down by every choir in Nashville to do the chant because of the satan references. They had to go to LA to hire the chanters

Ghost will start their new USA tour in about a month. I can highly recommended you to buy tickets and go to the show. You won't regret it. The part when Year Zero plays is one about the best. The crowd cheering and the fire is a something else.

The first song I ever heard by Ghost and to this day, still my favorite. So catchy. Can't help but sing along. And this is coming from a church-going Christian 🤘😈🤘 good music is good music

I am agnostic but I was a christian growing up and I always loved this band, the band is satire for sure though, tobias is just an agnostic with some great story ideas. The guy blends horror with comedy, he stays in character but even his character is hilarious. I don't think many people who believe in satan worship him, not many would be willing to accept an inevitable burning like that but I think they side with satan believing they will be one of his chosen. I love this kind of music and I equally love gospel (because those bass singers) which is funny, praising the lord can really get some stress off even if you don't believe much in the bible.
A couple Songs from Ghost I think you would enjoy are “From the Pinnacle to the Pit,” and “Mummy Dust” both off their Meliora album.
Also , if you want to check out a bunch of people jamming to their music you should check out one of their live shows. They are a blast!

Saw Ghost live a few months ago. They are so good live. Most bands do it because they just like pissing people off, although there are bands that legitimately do not like organized religion

There are two major groups or "churches" of Satanism, The Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple. Both do not believe in actual Satan or Deities in anyway, both see Satan as a figure of rebellion, enlightenment, truth and equality and finding the power within yourself to do what you want to happen in your life. Also neither group likes each other because of their small differences. You also have a multitude of smaller groups of Satanism that focus on what's important to them but at the core we are atheistic satanists. Ghost is HUGE in our world of Satanism and though we like to admit it or not, they actually helped many people find Satanism. Satanism helped me break free of my christian background. Now, every other person who worships an actual Satan as a physically and real deity that they can pray to are called devil worshippers. I do not know any devil worshippers and not many satanists do, we don't fuck with them because to us they are as crazy as the christians. This band and behemoth are very good representations of Satanism imo. What's funny is the song that actually started to really make me question my christian belief was the Pantera song 'Heresey'. After that I started on my journey of finding more music that made me question things and now here I am. Awesome stuff you guys. I would recommend either Monstrance Clock or Satan Prayer next
I believe Ghost is more about making catchy tunes and wrap it into a story and image. Just as Alice Cooper and Kiss did late 70s...
I did nearly engage in a relationship with this religious girl, who was grown up into a evangelical community. Though I myself wasn't very Christian so to speak, I got very fascinated by her style and presence... and her love of black metal.
Saw these guys live in February and seeing them again in September - they put on a hell of a show!

I worked at a club that was county on one side and hip hop on the other. The country side always was busier early in the evening. Because of that, while setting up the hip hop side we could play what we chose on the sound system. I was playing Mr. Crowley and there were two people who came over and started doing the electric slid to it. I thought it was quite hilarious.

Saw Ghost a week ago, phenomenal. One of the best shows, if not the best I've ever been to. Year Zero was amazing live, perfection. My second time seeing them
you were right when you said HE, Tobias writes the songs himself and he hires people to play on the instruments, Tobias is the only longterm member of the band, much like Rob Zombie he can be a tough boss.

I was lucky enough to see Ghost live a couple of months ago and it was the best show ever! This song is epic live and there was not a dull moment. You really should check out Mary on a cross, Spillways and Ritual. Also just like you guessed, Tobias isnt a satanist, he said in an interview that his first idea was actually to have a pope and priests singing in the band but it was not interesting enough so he came up with the anti pope and the nameless ghouls. He wanted the big backdrops of stained glass and interesting stories.

You should try their cover of If You Have Ghosts by Roky Erickson. For some reason he goes over big in Scandinavian countries. It’s not just that it has Ghost in the title.

No, Tobias Forge (creator, singer; Papa) isn’t a satanist or (even more unlikely) a devil worshiper. He simply understands the value of catchy ass riffs, good music building and chock.
Sweden do produce a high amount of good musicians and tunes.

Classic horror movie themes intertwined with psychedelic southern rock by a man who was imprisoned and tortured by the state of Texas for a minor offense, and suffering from schizophrenia (Ghost covered If You Have Ghosts by him)

This song is a couple years old now, but i think you should react to "Badflower -Ghost". This song has some great lyrics with a REALLY deep meaning behind it.
I remember when they first released the proper music video for this, it was censored and edited to hell (pun not intended). Then they managed to somehow release an uncensored version where at the end of the video the singer basically flips up his robe to reveal himself wearing nothing underneath (you can see EVERYTHING) and I just about spat out my coffee.

In interviews Tobias Forge says he is too ugly to be taken seriously as a lead singer, so he goes with masks. Then he determined he can't sing normal songs with a mask on, therefore the fun Satanic songs

when you get a chance, check out the rather NSFW music video for Year Zero. the first time i heard the song was when i randomly found the video online some years back, and i ended up just watching it and listening to the song on repeat for the next 24 hours straight.

Tobias is a rabbit hole in himself, he has been apart of so many great bands. Once you fall down the rabbit hole, you will learn he's been around a lot longer than Ghost era. All the past members(and current) of Ghost have side projects that are amazing as well.
You need to do Secular Haze by Ghost. It uses a waltz beat. So satanic ballroom dance music.

By the way the name Year Zero for the song fits the songs tone and theme. Year Zero is an idea that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and that a new revolutionary culture must replace it starting from scratch.

Ghost is one of the best shows I've ever seen. So fun and just overall fantastic.
Mastodon has been fuckin phenomenal on their recent tour as well, saw them last November and it was amazing. Saw ghost on the meliora tour back in the day and they kicked ass too. 2 awesome bands to see forsure

@@Fawkes318 I’m a bigger mastodon fan so I enjoyed that show more but ghost was still awesome and I’m a big fan. I definitely was a bigger ghost fan after seeing them live than I was before, really good and fun show and I’m glad they’re huge now. Both were some of my favorite shows I’ve been to in the last decade and you’ll likely have a blast, the mastodon show I went to in November was definitely a blast.
