At least Mat Armstrong made it round the track , last time he broke his Audi in the states . 🙄😃. Didn’t know the wheelbase was 300mm shorter than an E46 , do s it turn in better or is it a bit twitchy a high speed ?
@@newagetemplar6100 the difference in wheelbase is 230mm and the total length is is actually more like 400 --- the whole car is more lively and it loves to hang its ass out... a bit too much actually :)
I have only the 2litre e85 z4 convertible and it still has plenty of go! They so light..& still comfortable for long drives with heated leather seats.. Great cars next is the 3 litre coupe z4
Was thinking exactly the same. I have a Z4M coupe and I’m sure that with KW V3s and upgraded brakes would be a stiff challenge for many more expensive and “fancier” cars. Hope Misha gets his hands on one
The z4 M coupe is 200lbs heavier in the front than this 3.0si coupe, making it much faster in a straight line, but the extra weight also makes it less nimble.
My track experience says you’re so so wrong. The weight difference is vanished by the different M suspension. Even with suspension upgrades on either, on most tracks the difference is 2-3 seconds average. So you stick with you base geometry on the 3.0 I’ll stick to my s55. All day any day

They are amazing cars with great chassis balance and solid drivetrains. Surprisingly practical too! I did a road trip of 2000kms in my 3.0i and it never skipped a beat or felt claustrophobic. My dream is to own the M coupe eventually
I’ve had my Z4M for almost two years and gearing up for a mountain run; an old boss I looked up to had the clownshoe M coupe which is how I was introduced to the platform. I test drove one that had some alpina wheels and this is the first time I’ve seen anyone have them on the Z4 chassis. This has reignited my desire to do the combo. Thanks for the Z4 love and inspo!! This car looks like almost nothing else on the road is so underrated.
You cannot compare the roadster with the coupe, the coupe is much stiffer and therefore drives much better. But good choice, I have had an E85 3.0IS for years. Open ride is so nice!

@@kanaric I argue the only track mod you need for the Ring are proper uprated brakes and new fluid. You can have fun with a stock suspension but you'll burn up your stock brakes.
I've had a Z4 coupe, the challenges with these cars are most of the owners just seem to want to clean and polish them, and so finding and fitting track oriented parts is a struggle. I got some buckets in mine but not without a lot of fettling, almost nowhere to fit harnesses, no off the shelf half cages, etc etc. Otherwise it's a great and under-rated platform. N52 engines are great and take loads of abuse but this is widely known. I ended up switching to a 330i as although it was 100-200kg heavier, I could fit a full set of track tyres on the rear seats and a jack and tools in the boot.
I have a Z4M Roadster! Sorry I'm not in Germany. I drive Watkins Glen in upstate New York. I was supposed to take it easy this year but Misha is giving me bad ideas.
There are some otherworldly tunes for them, MILV mod for more intake opening, deleting the wimpy 'backup' throttle body... it is a helluva lot of work for 25hp though.
I have been waiting 3 years for him to do a video with this vehicle I had the same vehicle with standard wheels and have wondered how it would handle on the track.👍similar set up...
This makes my heart bleed... I owned a manual E86 3.0si for 8 years and 120.000 km from 2012 to 2020 and loved that car so much! At some point a 2-seater as an only car became no longer feasible ;)

There is an "si" missing in the title, the coupé was never built with the older 3.0 engine since it came out after the facelift/LCI of the E85 Z4 Roadster.

I have an E37 and love the looks and significant weight advantage -- but the wet noodle chassis compared to the E86 certainly limits confidence at a brisk pace.

Misha, I think in such videos, it's better to display the tachometer instead of the speedometer. Speed can be shown, for example, through GPS. It's just that the sensations of seeing how the engine operates at high revs convey adrenaline more strongly)))
Z4's are kind of a pain to drive with super firm suspension, and less than ideal driving position. I'm glad it held up so good on the track. I have an 06 3.0si alpine white with 80K miles. I used to drive it in college and it's been maybe 5 years since I've used it. I gotta get that thing back up and going again
@@big-R so with decent tyres on it, it doesn't really have the power (and the N52 isn't really tuneable) to need an LSD for traction in any road or track day environment - they also have a staggered setup as stock anyway and an extremely stiff chassis so breaking the rear isn't actually how these cars are set up, yes they will oversteer like any car will but it's all perfectly controllable without the diff. Sure if you wanted to drift one you'd need an LSD - but I've never seen one built specifically for drifting - people just use e46's instead because they are cheaper, longer wheelbase and then just weld the diff up.
Obviously depends just how hard you are driving it, but if you are running semi slicks, with the pressures set right, and you're *still* wheel spinning at corner exit, sure, props to you for being that committed in (probably) the rain - but in my experience the cars just have way more grip than power.

Great vid! A hydraulic PAS swap really transforms these when the EPAS eventually says good night! Light 18" wheels also help.
How viable is this? I preferred the hydraulic PAS in my E90 to the EPAS in either of my Z4s, although I did boil the e90 PAS fluid on track once.
It's crazy what a difference the lower front camera can do to the feel of the car's movement. It felt so alive in the the Z4!

I had no idea these came with an N52. Actually a very cool motor. With the valvetronic system you can run velocity stacks and no throttle body.

I cant wait till 22RPDs velocity stack kit comes out. Going to do a whole load of mods at once. Headers, MILVs and the VSs. Love the N52.
