    First up we have chin tucks. Chin tucks are my favorite exercise and/or stretch for the neck. It does a great job of “resetting” the neck muscles, and stopping forward head posture.
    Isometric exercises can also be very beneficial, especially when you are having a lot of neck pain and big movements increase the pain. Isometric exercises activate or contract the muscles without moving the muscles.
    The final two stretches are not only great for neck pain, but they can also help with shoulder and upper back pain as well. The upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles cover the neck, upper back, and shoulder area, so they can cause a lot of neck pain, shoulder pain, and upper back pain when they are tight.

    I've worked on a computer for years and my neck pain has gotten awful in this last year. Have been going to the chiropractor but it seems to only help when I go regularly. These stretches just opened up my whole upper body so much. What a lifesaver 🙌🏻

    good straight to the point video.
    I sprained my neck by badly adjusting position when doing incline bench press (I arched my back somehow oddly and pressed neck towards the bench while pushing the weight up. Note: I am not old, and I am experienced lifteR).
    Felt as if I twisted a vertebra in neck, or upper spine, and it felt like electricity through all body.
    I quit exercise immediately
    Neck felt awful (but not untolerable) all day and all night.
    Only next day towards mid-day it started feeling better, after I kind of forcefully pushed my spine into a wall angle.
    However - after doin these exercises you showed it immediately felt better. I think I arranged whatever was off back to normal.

    I have significant pain doing the stretches more specifically on the right side, the same side I have a bad shoulder, thoracic outlet syndrome and had neck surgery 17 months ago. Pain isn't as bad when I started 1 month ago. :( Still have a bad disk at C 6-7 but had 2 disks replaced and developed some sort of joint issue on the side of my neck. Stiff is an understatement. I have been doing the exercises 1 month with maybe 10% improvement which is better than nothing for sure and shoulder exercises. I do think my neck is improving slightly better then my shoulder though. I think this will work quickly for people with stiffness more then people with significant pain probably. Need another CT of my neck but because of the artifical disks I have to get approval for it as I need a low frequency MRI.

    Hey doctor Jo, I’ve been having small neck soreness for about a month and it won’t go away and recently I just got a headache from it just once, should I go seek help? Is it serious or can I do exercises, ice/heat, and take care of myself and it will slowly fade away, over the past month I haven’t really done any exercises or anything, usually when I get a stiff neck from sleeping wrong I just let it sit and it goes away on its own, what would you advice me to do? Thanks

  • @97yawnac
    @97yawnac 6 років тому

    Speaking of necks, back in '14 I had an ACD & F on C-3-4-5. All is well except that daily my "neckbone" gets tight/stiff. When I force my neck (with neck pressure only-no hands) and turn it left or right it "pops" just like popping your finger. My wife says she can hear it popping and does it ever feel like a million dollars afterward. Not sure where in the neckbone it happens, I'm thinking above C3, but just wondering if there is something wrong or if its a sign of something coming up. I have Osteo-arthritis. You're the best!!
    PS: My PT (dizziness) loves that shirt you wore "if at first you don't succeed...try doing it the way your PT told you to do it! LOL

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 років тому

      Thanks! As long as the pop is not painful, it's probably just a normal sign of some wear and tear. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it becomes painful. I wish I could wear that shirt to work :-)

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 роки тому

      Pillows are like mattresses, everyone likes them slightly different; soft, firm, fluffy, flat, etc. As long as it keeps your neck (spine) in a neutral position, it should be good. I have reviewed a pillow I really like from SleepOvation. You can learn more about it here: ua-cam.com/video/v-Nq8qm7RQk/v-deo.html

      Its been 2 months now, since i had surgery to keep rod inside my right tibia on the day of my bike accident.I had compound fracture in my right tibia and fibula. I have been doing some physiotherapy at home which i learnt in hospital ,but i feel my calf and quad muscles are loose now. Doctor told me to do full weight bearing ,but i feel pain in my leg to walk without crutches. Maybe because my leg has shrunken a bit and my thigh muscles are loose , so i am not able to walk properly? I can bend my leg, move my ankle in circular ways, stretch my leg out, while doing physiotherapy two times a day at home. Though, I cannot fully stretch my right toe straight and i feel intense pain when i stretch out. Can you guide me and others, who would need proper physiotherapy on this matter? Its my 60 days running and 80 days more to go, for my full recovery so that i can walk normal like before. Please Help me out in my exercise.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 років тому +1
