I believe the post-credits scene is Davy Jones returning, the Dutchman needs a captain. It plays like Will's nightmare but the barnacles suggest it's real. If this film came right after 3, it would have been received better I think. The vibe for 4 was a lot different and with half the original cast missing it just didn't land with a lot of people - personally I enjoyed it, though it did highlight how much having pirate lords in 3 kind of messed up the potential for a follow on. After all surely Blackbeard, arguably the most infamous pirate in history, should have had a place on the Brethren Court? Nevertheless, I loved this film. I've always been a pirate fan. It's funny that the movies both old and new use variations of the real people and ships. There's a movie called the Black Swan, a real ship called The Sparrow captained by Calico Jack. And a lady pirate captain with red hair that hailed from Ireland. I've forgotten her moniker.
@@attakrus i can't say how i missed that but, that's very good. That would mean that the next movie has potential, i hope they make it as great as the first movies.

besides jack i agree with u. Barbossa is one badass pirate and he always was a good men. It was strange adding his daughter to the films but and the end it rounded his character up even more. A lot o love for barbossa. I cried my eyes out in the movie theaters.
@@scorchma I mean Barbossa and Jack came back from the dead, so Davey Jones could to lol. I think it was because the trident was broken so all curses were gone, Will was no longer bound to the Dutchman. @@ItApproaches Yeah but the tridant being broken breaks all curses at sea so even if he did come back he would be a man not the squid and crab creature caused by a curse.

One of the problems with this one, is that the compass was given to Jack by Tia Dalma & not his old captain, as it was said in the first 3 movies. Also, Jack gave the compass away a few times & nothing happened, so why this time Salazar is out?
What @omagouille4104 and @melonenlord2723 said about the compass is correct, but I do agree with you about the origin being a problem. Why Salazar didn't become free all the times he "gave" the compass "away" is explainable, and no, I do not think it's a sorry excuse. It actually makes sense for it to be based on intentions. I LOVE the scene where Barbossa told Carina that she's his treasure. Sad that he's gone, but he has had a full life of a pirate ad went out saving his daughter and other people.
This is my favorite one since 'Dead Man's Chest'. I thought the third was to dramatic, and I really didn't like the fourth one when it came out. I like it better today then back then.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but the joke about the skeleton in the bar is a reference to Al Pacino. In several interviews, Johnny Depp told the story that Al Pacino would always tell him this joke, and Depp didn't get it. If you hear the laugh after Uncle Jack tells the joke, it actually sounds like Pacino.
Barbossa died at sea- so technically, he's not really gone. Will would need to ferry him to the other side as part of his job, but it's likely he could be recruited to the crew of the Flying Dutchman. I was honestly quite surprised that he didn't appear at the end- Little Will gets reunited with his Father and she gets reunited with Barbossa- finally begins learning more about him and his tales on the sea and about her Mother- I feel like it would have been a little more satisfying.
The satisfaction of Barbossa reuniting with Carina would be severely outweighed by the disappointment of Barbossa's sacrifice being cheapened so badly.
Guillotines were actually one of the worst ways to be executed because often enough, the blade would only cut through part of your neck, and it would have to be dropped multiple times before your head was actually decapitated.
It depends on your order in the line. First in line? Best death, clean through. If you're 10th in line tho... They didn't sharpen the blade between multiple uses at once. So it will quickly dull and, as you pointed out, quickly become much much worse. Picture that, then remember that during the French Revolution, with Roguepeir I think you spell his name, he cut off 100 heads per day, each day, for weeks. I wouldn't want to live in France during that time.
What is truly mind-blowing is that they already have the Universe set, Disney could literally expand the Carribean universe a lot, the post credit scene about Davy Jones was truly intriguing and i would love to the Caribbean universe and Jack Sparrow or even a spin off with Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Keira Knightley is completely done with this series. Do you know how much they had to work to convince her to be in this movie even for that one scene? That's why we don't see Henry in the same shots as Elizabeth, because the shots were added in much, much later, when the movie was basically done and they received criticism from the test audiences due to the lack of Elizabeth. She wasn't planned to be in this movie and she didn't really want to be in this movie nor part of this series anymore.
it's never cleared whether the last scene was a cliffhanger for the return of Davy Jones... Disney abandoned all Pirates of the Caribbean projects due to all the crap Depp had to go thru because of Amber Heard .
I do feel that they could've stopped after the third and I do agree that the fourth felt a little out of place but is still a great movie. Hiwever I am glad that they made a movie to give Will and Elizabeth a better happily ever after. I mean come on; 10 years apart just to get 1 day together, yeah on paper that may seem tragically romantic because at least they get the one day but, in practice, that would seriously suck. So at least Will and Elizabeth got a better ending this time. P.S. still waiting for you to do The Crow.
This was definitely the most heartbreaking film of the franchise, especially knowing that Johnny was going through hell with Amber Turd while filming this 😔 Part of why his portrayal of Jack seems forced in this film

Will is free from the curse that ties him to the Dutchman so she no longer has a captain that person had Barnacles and a giant Lobster claw, obviously it is Davey Jones brought back from the dead by Calipso just like she brought Barbossa back in the second movie
Wait why did I never even notice that, that the Dutchman now NEEDS a captain so that would be so cool with Davy coming back to fulfill that since that’s her original captain 😮
@@silentassason And this is where I feel like the implications of ALL curses being in the trident is limiting themselves. Which Will was going to do, so why did the curse happen to him?

Not a great final bow but more respectable than some. I liked that they delved into Jack's past and how he earned his reputation beyond being the son of captain Teague, exploring how easily that reputation can be tarnished (not unlike that of a film series) and the journey to reclaim it. As you say, it's hard to say how much of it is luck and how much is skill, but when one or the other run out his own men desert him. Pirates' life.
There is one plothole in this movie that I will never get over: In this movie Jack gets the compas from the previous captain 21:19 But originally Tia Dalma said she gave it to him. Which way was it?? It doesn't make sence! I want to believe the original films. When I saw this in the theaters, at the end when the music is blasting and Elizabeth comes from behind that hill, I got chills🥰🔥
Going into the theater when this first came out, I would've been fine with this being the last film of the franchise. That ended when I saw that post-credit scene. Since that moment, with the tease of the return of Davy Jones (my favorite character in this franchise, other than Sparrow), I've been hoping for at least one more.
Being the captain of the Dutchman is a curse that I believe was created when Davy Jones betrayed Calypso. The Dutchman and the job of ferrying the dead is not the curse. So Will was broken free of the curse, but the Dutchman still needs a captain.
Freeing Will from the curse, making Jack captain of the Black Pearl (again), and giving Barbosa a touching send off made all the mishaps worth it for me. I’m just glad that the ending was in fact a happy one. Obviously there’s the teaser for another but we know it won’t happen so in my mind the actual end is the conclusion of these characters and I can’t complain there.
It may yet. I've heard that Johnny Depp would consider returning to the franchise if Disney officials (who fired him) makes an official appology for fireing him without just cause. This is the only way I would watch the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I would not watch it if they make one without him. I havn't watched any of the Fantastic Beasts movies because Warner Bros. replaced him in that franchise. I've seen parts of them, but I've never sat down and put them on myself. And I will keep up my personal boycot of the Pirates franchise (future movies) if Johnny Depp isn't in them.
Javier Bardem....nuff said. Someone came up with a reason for Jack's mannerisms and his wobbly walking. The guy said it's because of his sealegs. He never lost them so on stable ground he can't walk straight. I think your editor needs a raise ha ha.
Just in case you didn't know, after they finished the last movie, rumors went around that they were going to create a TV series with Captain Jack Sparrow doing occasional cameos...... Haven't heard anything about it since this movie came out.

Despite the lows of this franchise, I think overall it sticks with so many people as memorable as hell. I still watch the first movie, like, once or twice a year with people. Hell yeah.
Props to the editor! The notes are so funny! :DD (Keep him, Alex!!!) I think the flaws of this movie are the new characters who have to carry the movie but we don't really care about them and also Johnny, I believe to have read he had the hardest time in his relationship with Amber during filming and was drunk or not in, you can see him being not interested in the movie anymore. We also love to see Jacks skills and natural humour he had in the first trilogy, especially first movie, where he also was significant to the plot, but his character here turned to a drunk man with few jokes anyone could do. The best time - for me - is always Jack interacting with Barbossa, we also got too little of that in this one. Anyways, before the Disney backlash, there was supposed to be another movie, thus the post credits scene and I think a movie with Jack and his son (he has do have some kids somewhere :D ) would be great, but it's over, so let's just appreciate Johnny for his marvellous portrayal of this character :3
In the end credit scene, the person that came into Will and Elizabeth's room was Davey Jones from the second and third movies. It was hinting at his return, although it makes you wonder how he is back and why he still looks like an octopus man with a crab arm since his curse broke too.
More than likely it was Calypso that brought back Davy. The Dutchman must always have a captain and since Will is no longer tied to the ship, it makes sense that she would bring back the very person she first put in charge of the ship and the duty of ferrying souls: Davy Jones himself.
@spicysnowman8886 - I thought more about it and I realized that Calypso theory is wrong. The trident held all of the curses of the sea within it, including that of the Dutchman. Which means that even though Calypso may have put Davy in charge of it, the power to do so was never hers to begin with. Her power came from someone else, but who? The very person who own and created trident in the first place: Poseidon. Now if I was Poseidon, and not only was your family involved in the release of Calypso, but was involved in taking the Dutchman from Davy Jones, breaking every curse of the sea that I created, and destroyed my property on top of that, I would want your head for that. And I would send someone who not only knows you, but the one person to have technical bested you: Davy Jones himself. Because in "At Worlds End" Davy dealt a mortal blow to Will that would have killed him if not for Jack's intervention. Nobody else, not Barbosa, not Jack, nobody had actually beaten Will in straight combat and dealt him a blow like that except Davy. So it makes sense to send Jones after Will and his family. And Poseidon could easily restore Davy Jones back to full power since he seems to have been the creator of the curses powers to begin with.

This was the 4th time I have watched it and I've cried every time when Will reappears on the island at the end (the Elizabeth arrival is the coup the grace) ❤❤❤
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie and the entire franchise. I totally agree that you can exclude the 4th one and still feel completely satisfied. I never considered that this movie had intentionally written jokes unlike the other ones that felt natural but you are totally right. When this came out people had mixed opinions about it. The one thing that can't be denied is that the cast a perfect actor for Henry. He looks so much like a good mix between Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom that its totally believable that he could be their son in real life. As a Willabeth shipper growing up I was so happy that they brought those characters back and had the story revolve around their kid. Initially Keira had no intention of coming back to the franchise but during audience testing they got a lot of feedback that the Henry/Will reunion felt hollow without Elizabeth there, especially since her devotion to him was so central to his Dutchman curse. So they got a hold of Keira and she agreed to come back for that scene as a cameo. One of the complaints that people had was that it felt like a rehash of the first one with the gimmicks of all the previous villains into one person. Salazar and his crew are cursed with immortality (curse of the black pearl), their ship devours other vessels/the crew look overtaken by the sea (dead mans chest) and they can't step on land (at worlds end). I think its a fair complaint, but I thought as a whole it brought the swashbuckling fun back to the franchise in a way the 4th one didn't and that was slightly lost in the second and third one with it being more mythic based. The other complaint that people had is that in this movie Jack wasn't as acrobatic and goofy in his getaway scenes. To me that's kinda a stupid thing to be annoyed by because it makes sense in real life and in universe. Johnny Depp was 54 when the movie came out so naturally he wouldn't be able to do that type of stunt work. Second, its entirely possible that Jack Sparrow is much older than we realize. Lets assume he was 30yrs old at the beginning of the franchise and that a year had passed between the original trilogy. That means by the end of At Worlds End he is 33. Then On Stranger Tides happened some time in the 10 years that Elizabeth and Henry are waiting for Will to return. By the time Dead Men Tell No Tales happens he is at least 43 because Henry has already met his dad. But when Henry tries to find Will a few years has passed which means Henry is 12, which makes Jack 45yrs old. Then we have a 9yr time skip, which means Henry is 21 and Jack is 54yrs old by the time the series ends. Can anyone really expect a 54yr old pirate to be swinging around masts and tumbling down a stairwell without getting hurt? At this point, Jack has earned his right to lounge around the Black Pearl drinking as much rum as he wants.
30:36 Funny the name "Smith" came back. That's one of the first scenes of Jack in the original Curse of the Black Pearl when he arrives on the sinking dignhy. The Dockmaster gives the name "Mr. Smith" Porbably no connection obviously, but interesting I just noticed it now. I alost thought Jack said Smith, but then quickly remembered not.
See Alex this is why I like you. You gave a real critique, you saw what were the good things about the movies and where they could have been better. Most people just say the last two movies are trash or awful and leave it at that. No explanation as to why or how they came to that conclusion, they don't even try to find good things about them. I love it, you actually put effort into giving your opinion. P.S. I always think I'm going to die in the deep end of the pool😅 too. No matter how many times I tell myself "That's stupid, there are no sharks in a swimming pool." I'm still irrationally scared. Keep being your awesome, weird, inappropriate self!😁💜
The post credit scene shows the shadow of Davy jones and his crab hand, my theory is that he might be coming back in the 6. movie bc the curses got lifted and (somehow?) he got his heart back something something..... xD still im looking foreward to it!
there's supposed to be another pirates of the carribean, but because of the johnny depp trial, we have not got it yet ,and will probably not get it ever.
How did you not figure out Barbossa was her dad from him talking to her about being a orphan? If you pay attention to how he acts, you can tell he recognizes the book and that she was left with it. He then looks at the compass, and he wants her in his life. That is what he wanted most in that moment. Dude look at the shadow, it's Davy Jones. lol
I believe in the 4th movie it was to show you that Jack actually had a true love interest, Angelica and remember at the end of it she had the voodoo doll of Jack. At the end of this movie he has somewhere he needs to be. Also seeing Will's nightmare and the floor at the end brings maybe another tale to tell. Let us hope for the best.
Movies always vastly downplay how much effort and time it takes to raise an anchor. These anchors have to be massive otherwise they are no use and will never hold the ship in place. Those 6 guys at the end trying to lift them is going to do nothing. HMS Victory's largest anchor would take 260 men 6 hours to raise if it was fully deployed. This ship actually needed 2 trundleheads (the centre piece that spins), one with 14 capstans (the bars people push), another with 12. And 10 people would push each capstan.
If I recall the math correctly, in universe Jackieboy is around 60 and Barbossa is pushing 80 in this film. It really could have been an interesting story, if they had successfully replaced the old cast and if the writing was a little less Hollywood. It was still fun, though, thanks for posting a reaction!
22:27 it’s nerve. When he escaped from Beckett’s ship in At World’s End, Beckett saw what he was doing and said “you’re mad.” Jack replied, “thank goodness for that because if I wasn’t then this would never work.” In every single escape or fight, Jack never hesitates. Combine that with his quick planning and he basically makes his own luck

He was my favorite from the very beginning. You can just tell how much fun Geoffrey Rush had with that role in every movie he's in 😁

The after credits scene was showing Davey Jones was back and coming for Will.
Maybe he finally wanna hear his nice singing voice Jack mentioned 😂
but does that after credit scene even makes sense? i mean didnt Davey Jones die at the end of the 3rd movie?
@@scorchma I mean Barbossa and Jack came back from the dead, so Davey Jones could to lol. I think it was because the trident was broken so all curses were gone, Will was no longer bound to the Dutchman. But the dead needed someone to carry them onwards, so maybe the natural order of the world simply reverted to the former Dutchman captain, Davey Jones? Doesn't matter, we will never know though lol.
@@ItApproaches Yeah but the tridant being broken breaks all curses at sea so even if he did come back he would be a man not the squid and crab creature caused by a curse.
@@garrettgoppert7804 Again, unless the world simply reverted to whoever was before. Davey never turned back, he died as squid face, so I don't think a curse breaks when your dead, the trident broke while he was dead...so his curse was not in play as he was not in play.
One of the problems with this one, is that the compass was given to Jack by Tia Dalma & not his old captain, as it was said in the first 3 movies.
Also, Jack gave the compass away a few times & nothing happened, so why this time Salazar is out?
You need to "betray" the compass, not just lending it or get is stolen. Him selling it away for a bottle of rhum seems to fulfill the betrayal part.
@@omagouille4104no. That's Disney weak excuse of denying the fact they fucked up. The storyline does not fit.

BUT they did butcher the lore by changing where Jack got the compass. That's an, if not the main, aspect about this movie that I dislike.

@@kimmccarthy7747 But every curse at sea is broken. I don’t think he could keep his tentacles even if he wanted to. I actually really like this one. They did a good job making Henry look like Elizabeth/Will combo IMO
This is my favorite one since 'Dead Man's Chest'. I thought the third was to dramatic, and I really didn't like the fourth one when it came out. I like it better today then back then.
Barbosa being the hero, Jack getting the Pearl and Will and Elizabeth reunited. A perfect ending.
Until the end credits
Wow that’s awful :L
It depends on your order in the line. First in line? Best death, clean through. If you're 10th in line tho... They didn't sharpen the blade between multiple uses at once. So it will quickly dull and, as you pointed out, quickly become much much worse.

No. No you don't. Trust me. Hollywood has a horrible track record with spinoffs.
The next movie was supposed to be the revenge of Davy Jones
Keira Knightley is completely done with this series. Do you know how much they had to work to convince her to be in this movie even for that one scene? That's why we don't see Henry in the same shots as Elizabeth, because the shots were added in much, much later, when the movie was basically done and they received criticism from the test audiences due to the lack of Elizabeth. She wasn't planned to be in this movie and she didn't really want to be in this movie nor part of this series anymore.
@@AleksandarIvanov69 Hollywood has a horrible track record, period.
it's never cleared whether the last scene was a cliffhanger for the return of Davy Jones... Disney abandoned all Pirates of the Caribbean projects due to all the crap Depp had to go thru because of Amber Heard .

Jack's entire attire from his hat, to his hair accessories, to his scarf, to his gun and belt...are the tributes his 1st crew gave him.

So since the trident removed all the curses, that means Calypso is the only one capable of making and maintaining new ones now?
@@silentassason And this is where I feel like the implications of ALL curses being in the trident is limiting themselves. Which Will was going to do, so why did the curse happen to him?

Not a great final bow but more respectable than some. I liked that they delved into Jack's past and how he earned his reputation beyond being the son of captain Teague, exploring how easily that reputation can be tarnished (not unlike that of a film series) and the journey to reclaim it. As you say, it's hard to say how much of it is luck and how much is skill, but when one or the other run out his own men desert him. Pirates' life.

I think the flaws of this movie are the new characters who have to carry the movie but we don't really care about them and also Johnny, I believe to have read he had the hardest time in his relationship with Amber during filming and was drunk or not in, you can see him being not interested in the movie anymore.
Reading the Editor's Notes had me cackling! xDDD
@@arkez35the curse of the dutchman should be broken now no?

Yep. Same Jaws-inspired pool anxiety here.
This was the 4th time I have watched it and I've cried every time when Will reappears on the island at the end (the Elizabeth arrival is the coup the grace) ❤❤❤
I hate how they retconned the way jack got the compass, originally it is mentioned in pirates 2 that he simply bought it from tia dalma
In disney+ this movie is actually called the revenge of salazar

24:45 my friend I have a saying about that- I don’t have any sharks in my living room so I don’t go in theirs either.👍🏻👍🏻🤠🇺🇸
Alex, your poor Editor. Gees, they look like they are about to have a melt down. 🤪 LMAO Also, they are hilarious. Really adds to your videos. 🤣
22:27 it’s nerve. When he escaped from Beckett’s ship in At World’s End, Beckett saw what he was doing and said “you’re mad.”
Jack replied, “thank goodness for that because if I wasn’t then this would never work.”
In every single escape or fight, Jack never hesitates. Combine that with his quick planning and he basically makes his own luck
The reason Henry’s sleeves getting ripped was so dramatic I’d because that’s looked as the worst thing for a seamen.
The shadow and claw in the end credit is Davy Jhones
The guy that plays Henry actually also plays Nightwing (The first robin that ever worked with batman, yes there was multiple throughout time.) in Titans on HBO Max.
