Which is why Jack coming back at the end of DMC is a pivotal moment for his character, he once again puts himself before others, and like before it ends with him betrayed.
When Calypso was freed, she was shouting in French. “Malfaiteur en Tombeau, Crochir l'Esplanade, Dans l'Fond d'l'eau!". This roughly means "Across all the waters, find the path to he who wrongfully entombed me!"

@@markusallen6818 If you really believe that then you completely do NOT know who Jack is. Like at all. There's a very strong clue about Jack and his sanity in "On stranger Tides." Jack is more AWARE and SANE than pretty much EVERY pirate we meet.
11:24 : Davy Jones shed a tear because when the locket rings when he didn’t even open it, means that Calypso had just opened hers. That’s why he’s crying because he knows she’s thinking about him.
But he was only able to cry because of the proximity of his heart. He looks at the tear because he’s confused why he’s crying, and then he realizes Beckett is bringing the heart closer, and he gets mad.
Barbosa's cackle while everyone else is freaking out as they go over the edge, is my absolute favorite moment in the whole series

43:25 Also, if you remember, Barbossa sending Elizabeth off by calling her "Mrs. Turner" is a fitting nod to the first film. Elizabeth first met Barbossa and introduced herself as Turner which prompted him to take her captive to Isla de Muerta because he thought it was her blood he needed to lift the curse.
So, him saying goodbye to her here as Mrs. Turner comes around as a peaceful goodbye.

Elizabeth and Barbosa had a underrated bond. He’s the only guy Elizabeth didn’t kiss so he came back from dead but since she kiss other guys, they all died.

They were the guards that were guarding the chest, the same two guard Jack met at Port Royal in Pirates 1. When they escaped the Dutchman they put on pirate clothes to blend in.

Viki, the two guys at the end that seemed kind of familiar are the 2 goofy british soldiers, they disguised themselves as pirates to infiltrate the Black Pearl and managed to survive the battle because of that
I love Beckett's reactions in the scene with Will and Davy Jones. He clearly knows a lot more than he's letting on, or he's that good at paying attention that he's able to anticipate a lot farther ahead than most great strategists. Of course, Jack's seeming unpredictability is what ultimately leads to his demise, but that scene hinestly sealed Beckett as one of the greatest characters in the series.
I think its the fact that Beckett, not even once, ever loses his temper or lashes out. He's ALWAYS cool and calm, even when things are going to crap. Its not something you usually see in the big bad of a series like this. Without him really having to physically do anything to anyone he manages to be intimidating
Beckett is like Thrawn, and Jack is the Force. Plan ahead all you want but the force will do some crazy shit
Fr Beckett was such an underrated villain. He was like Palpatine, a great mastermind but underestimated the unpredictability of Jack.

The two ships battling pearl and dutchman were an ACTUAL SET. Yes look it up, it is one of the biggest physical movie setpieces ever made.
Otherwise, a lot of people keep hating on this movie for being too long but it is a top Tier way to end the Will & Elizabeth Saga in my opinion.
Also the beginning scene is a Statement. Back when disney had Guts and was not afraid to go dark with the subject matter.

Norrington is probably the most honorable person in the entire series lol. I saw this trilogy in theaters and I can confirm it was amazing! One of my favorite movie going experiences was watching these films. The next one isn't bad but it takes a departure from what we have come to love. Not so many familiar faces but i still like it. The final film however is absolutely fantastic and ties everything up perfectly so I cant wait until you experience that one!

One of the best things about this movie is that Keith Richards, the guitarist of The Rolling Stones and Johnny Depp’s inspiration for how he played Jack Sparrow played Jack’s Father

As mentioned by someone else, Keith Richards (who plays Captain Teague) was the inspiration for Johnny Depp's portrayal of Jack, so to see Richards himself in this franchise as Jack's father is awesome! Edit: You didn't miss anything regarding Jack's parents. And anyway, Captain Teague is seen only in two films in the entire franchise, so... 2nd edit: 42:55 to 42:57 - I don't think that was Blackbeard. Maybe it was a reference to the real Blackbeard, but I don't know.
Blackbeard is a main character in the fourth movie so that was definitely not Blackbeard. I believe she's referring to either the French (tall and thin) or Spanish (shorter guy with a lot of grey in his beard) representative to the Brethren Court at the time she says it based on the timing.
She was talking about Villanueva, the Spanish pirate.

Thank you for the Norrington appreciation. Like I said in the first movie reaction, he in my opinion gets the most character development and changes the most from the beginning of the trilogy to the end of it (yes Trilogy) and that why I would absolutely not wish Elizabeth on him.
Elizabeth while strong, capable and adventurous is definitely not a good fit for James. She's too flighty and way too impetuous to be the wife of an Admiral of the British Royal Navy. Also James deserves better, so there. Will can have her. Well he can have her once every ten years, I guess.

I love the respect you have for Norington. He really is a decent man who, in the first movie, was just doing his job. When Will took his girl he let it go because it was what she wanted. In the second movie he's at all time low hence why he does what he does, but in this movie he redeems himself. Pour one out for Norington.
There's a book called POTC: the price of freedom, which expands on Jack's relationship with Becket and why he was branded and dishonorably discharged from the Navy. There's even a deleted scene where Beckett & Jack mention that moment, & Jack's disgust at Beckett's human trafficking. Unfortunately the next two installments retconned all of it

I love this trilogy and with some great attention to detail throughout. Small things coming back full circle like When we meet Jack in the first film he's in a small row boat. The last we see of Jack is in a similar small row boat. Elizabeth knowing a captain could marry couples on a ship because Jack told her he could preform a marriage in Dead Mans Chest. The one that took me a while to notice because its very subtle and quick, is Will gets stabbed by the very same sword he made for Norrington in the first film. Also when Tia Dalma meets Will she tells him there is a touch of destiny about you. Which hints at him becoming Captain of the Flying Dutchman no matter what. Oh and Master Gibbs ending up back in Tortuga and Barbossa the Captain of The Black Pearl where they both started in The Curse of the Black Pearl. One of the last truly great trilogies.
A thing to take notice of, this film was meant to be the last in the series but they decided to make more later. That’s why it doesn’t seem like the story could continue from where it ended

Jack's true love is the freedom of the open ocean so it makes sense that his hell is a desert.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again - A. The SCORE to this film is GOD TIER! Seriously the combination of themes coming together after the first two film's, the swelling battle themes . . .Jacks theme getting a much needed and welcomed expansion. B - Yes its a LONG sit and yes its complicated but the plot is very clever and fun to just roll with. C. The makeup/SFX overall still look AMAZING! D. The final battle - with the sweeping camera moves from and around the ship as shit blows up - WOW! Watched this on the big screen when it came out. Packed theater - gotta remember that we had to wait a year or so after the last film to see the conclusion of the story. Course Jack fever was at its last great peak, the cast is amazing, Barbarossa / Jeff is simply fabulous to watch, Norington gets his character saved for both the audience and the characters - the audience reacted like it was a marvel film at the best bits and its a fond memory / cinema experience. Oh the running joke about the nice sword was both funny and sad at its last reference with Jones. So much detail in this film in both the set design and call backs.
- seeing all the flags rise with the swell Zimmer gave the pirate clan theme real character - amazing moment the theater (and I!) all cheered! It was like the battle before Thanos or at Helms Deep - Course it was up to the Purl to set the tone and as I said before the battle did NOT disappoint. LOL the "GOOD ONE" joke lol that one was pretty good. I could ramble on for hours here - you guys leave a comment/reply on your favorite call back or joke - / moment ;)

At 42:45 where you said you recognised the guys on the right is one of my favourite touches of the movies. These 2 guys from the Royal Navy are from the first movie when they try to stop Jack from commandeering a ship at Port Royal and start arguing amongst themselves. They were the ones guarding the chest on the Dutchman and attempted to board the Black Pearl during the final fight where they slammed into the side of it instead of landing on the deck. They ended up ditching their uniforms and dressed as pirates and so joined the crew of the Black Pearl. Very underrated little background character arc in my opinion
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one so much! It might be my favorite of the entire Pirates bunch! Honestly you could probably stop here. This was initially intended to be the end of the series forever, and the other two don’t quite live up to the original trilogy in my opinion. The next one’s alright as a sort of lower-stakes mini-epilogue though. But I imagine you’ll be pretty disappointed by the lack of returning cast.
Agreed on the quality of the remaining movies -- On Stranger Tides is kinda fun but definitely a large step down in quality and overall left me disappointed, and Dead Men Tell No Tales was so bad I'm pretty sure I didn't even finish watching it the first and only time I tried.
The next one is meh imo because it feels like a filler episode lol. The latest one actually picks up where this one left off

The Film Salazars revenge is really not very good, but the other one with Barbossa and Jack was a fun adventure for me. :)

If you want to know more about Jack and Beckett’s previous dealings and their history I highly recommend watching the deleted extended scene where the two of them talk on his ship. It explains how and why Jack got the pirate brand on his arm, and even hints at why the Black Pearl is called that, and why it’s so blackened.
This one has so many small details and callbacks to catch on repeat viewings. My favorite: the sword that Davy Jones takes from Norrington, kills Will with, and then presumably becomes Will's sword as captain, is the sword he forged for Norrington's promotion in the first movie.

42:19 Because Beckett promised to the public that he would clear the sea from pirates by using the Dutchman to kill them so traders wouldn’t have to worry about being raided by pirates. Now that Will is the captain and turned the Dutchman against Beckett, he can’t keep his promise anymore and his career is over. He simply decided to go on his own terms

I only realized that like last year when my bf pointed it out. I was always so confused like "why are we looking at these weird men for so long?? " the change of outfits and manners combined with how rarely they're even on screen was enough to fool me haha. Probably would still have no clue if it wasn't for him 😅

The Pirate respecting the code is no other than Teague...Sparrow, Jack's father. He's played by Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, who Johnny Depp took his inspiration from for his role.
42:14 Literally the most epic death scene for a villain lol also those guys at 42:48 were the inept British soldiers who were “guarding” the chest with Davy Jones heart. Cant remember if they were in the 2nd movie but they were in the 1st movie standing guard on the docks when Elizabeth feints and falls off the cliff.
Probably my favorite of the saga, Geoffrey Rush is amazing and Keith Richards as Captain Teague is PERFECT 😁
On top of that Cutler Beckett's ending scene is so epic.

I saw this one in theaters as a kid and the opening with the singing and everything was awesome.
This is easily my favorite entry of the original 3 films. I love how it ties everyone’s motivations together to create the conflict in the film.
I cannot state enough what a great tragic villain Davy Jones is. He's such a great baddie, both for his appearance and behavior. There's just so much to it that Bill Nighy did to make the character more than a silly over the top cartoon villain.
It's quite a great though obvious metaphor of Will literally giving his heart to Elizabeth. I am a sucker for metaphors and that's one of my favorites for sure. And I do love the end credits scene, such a bitter sweet of Will getting to meet his son for the first time and seeing his love after ten years.
Gotta appreciate Jack's cunning and determination, even if he's quite mad but has a purpose to his madness.
Idk if anyone’s mentioned it yet but one of the things that I only learned from a comment myself that probably goes under the radar is that where Beckett says they’re “finally” singing, we then jump to them going to Sao Feng where Barbossa says “the song has been sung,” as in, a song that could mark the potential end of piracy, meaning the court has to convene, which is what Beckett wants them to do

I will always remember that the home media release of this came with an FAQ booklet to try and explain some of the plot points because they realized the general audience couldn't understand what the heck was going on in the movie.
The set for the final maelstrom scene was the largest ever constructed of its time! Would 10/10 recommend Rango after this. Same director, and lead actor.
In the DvD commentary Gore Verbinski said he based Jack's personality on Bugs Bunny

A lot of people really love to hate on this film, but in my opinion it's the most epic of all the sequels and it's a really fun ride!
Easily one of the best end battles ever put to screen!
First and second are good movies but this is the epic conclusion of them. I can't watch one without watching the other two. Most perfect trilogy with Lord of the Rings.

Here's your backstory/history. Calypso is a goddess from Greek mythology who was the daughter of the titan, Atlas. In the war between the gods and the titans, she sided with her father. When the gods won the war, her punishment for siding with the titans was that she was never allowed to be with those she loved. For the POTC lore, she and Davy Jones fell in love, but since he was mortal, he would die, so he became the captain of the Flying Dutchman in order to become "immortal", so he could be with her once every 10 years. But because of her punishment, she wasn't allowed to meet with him. He thought she had tricked him into eternal servitude to the Dutchman, so he cut out his heart to avoid feeling the heartbreak and taught the Brethren Court how to seal her power as revenge.

When I was 8 or 9 and my sister was 6 or 7 my dad build a trailer he used as he was fixing the yard in our new house. The house was in a brand new development so we had no grass and no fence when we moved in, so dad needed a trailer.
He decided to let my sister and me choose the color and we chose this amazing, shockingly bright neon green. It was the late 1970's.
This trailer was so bright green you'd swear it glowed by it's own light.
Our next door neighbor's wife was English and she pretended to be extremely posh even though he husband managed the local hardware store.
They were not poor, but they were, we all were strongly grounded in what they might call the "working class"
She said of the trailer, with a very snooty tone, that it "offended the finer senses" and this delighted us to no end.
To this day, nearly 50 years later, any time we encounter something that is even a bit unsavory, that it offends the finer senses.
Eventually dad's need for the trailer went away and he sold it to a guy with a landscaping business. He loved the trailer as it was very well built, and the trailer he had before was wrecked when someone crashed into it when they failed to see it.
I'd see the trailer from time to time over the next 25 or so years, filled with garden tools. I even met the guy who got it from my dad when we were getting gas at the same time.
I told him the back story and why it was that color. He said the color was what he really wanted the trailer for so no one could say they didn't see it. He said he realized how well it was built only after he bought it.
I went to the opening night release of Worlds End when it hit theaters and it was absolutely amazing to witness...we all cheered upon seeing Jack again 😂 this one is definitely the most epic out of all them for sure 😊
So the Green Flash is a real thing. Normally our atmosphere scatters mostly blue light. But when the Sun is on the horizon it has to go through so much air that all the blue is scattered out and only the oranges and yellows and reds make it through. On an extremely flat horizon, on a very calm day, with the right humidity, just as the sun goes below the horizon there will be a burst of green, light bent by the atmosphere from over the horizon. There are plenty of photos and videos of it. It's not as dramatic as the film makes it, but it is very cool.
When she starts asking if that was black beard without knowing that she'll see him in the next movie was great.
I saw this movie opening night at a midnight showing, dressed up as Jack, and loved it so much that as soon as it ended, I got up, went to the box office, and paid for another ticket to see it a second time. It's such a marvelous ending to the trilogy. The next two are fun if you want to see more of Jack Sparrow (and who doesn't), but they don't reach the same highs in my eyes.
To answer your question about the pirate obsessed with the code, he is not Blackbeard (a real pirate btw, actual name Edward Teach), that's Captain Teague, played by the one and only Keith Richards. The character is Jack Sparrow's father, fitting since Johnny Depp cites Keith as one of the main inspirations for Jack, the other being the Looney Tune character Pepe La Pew. It also explains why he plays guitar after reading from the pirate code, since Keith Richards is the lead guitarist for The Rolling Stones.

Also, that vortex, or whirlpool, whichever you want to call it, is referred to in this movie as a “maelstrom,” however, actual maelstroms, like the Saltstraumen maelstrom, are usually fields of changing flows, resulting in shifting whirlpools growing and shrinking, forming and vanishing, lasting seconds or minutes. Then there are just regular whirlpools, like the ones at Niagara, but all whirlpools found so far don’t affect larger ships nearly as much as video games would make you think. A speedboat can easily outrun the flows of the largest whirlpool, at Niagara on the Lake. If a person were tired, and trying to swim through a whirlpool, that could become deadly, but only the smallest boats (or even a swimmer who is fresh and ready) would struggle at the Saltstraumen maelstrom.

It was indeed a memorable thing, to watch this one in theatres, just as much as DMC. Great parallel between Jones/Calypso and Will/Elizabeth not knowing if they can trust each other.
There were two more film after this, but they suffer from losing so many of the characters even if Jack does carry them a ways. You can safely skip them.

I was both very worried and excited to see the deaths of Norrington and the Governor. I'm sad there were so many deleted scenes about them (for example their reactions to Elizabeth's presumed death.) James especially deserved so much better. I always rooted for Sparrabeth, but Norrabeth would've been very interesting to explore as well. The fate of Will and Elizabeth is tragic in a bittersweet way, though. I still remember the shock of seeing Will "die" for the first time.
The love story between Calypso and Davy Jones breaks my heart (no pun intended). The scene between them is one of my favorites during the series. And I love how "Hoist the Colors" tells the story of them and the Brethren Court.
(As a side note I love how worried you are of everyone getting the cold after the fight. :D And Barbossa's "Just kiss!" became such a huge meme for shipping purposes over the years.)
It has been great to see you react to "POTC". The first three are hands down the best, but I hope you will enjoy the next ones as well, they definitely their great moments too.
Barbosa is an incredible actor. You should see him play Einstein in the Miniseries Genius!

i love how absolutely dark the beginning of the movie is, mass execution including kids being hanged, Disney will never have the balls to do something like that ever again.
Nah the dude with the dreadlocks is Jack's father. And the guys that seemed so "familiar" around 40 minutes in were the guards who always failed guarding.
I truly believe this is the end of the Pirates trilogy. Everything else dipped in quality after this

The guy near the end where you said "why does he look really familiar?" That was the two British Guards(the silly pair that had been guarding the chest) and they apparently decided to switch sides at the end. LOL
Great reaction. It's always nice to see new people getting into this trilogy. And I suggest other films: Tron and Tron: Legacy, the new Planet of the Apes trilogy with Andy Serkis in the title role, The Ghost and the Darkness with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas (based on a true story and the diary of the man who plays Kilmer).
Under certain air conditions, the air on the horizon can cause a bit of a rainbow effect, where different colors of sunlight get bend up or down. Green light is bend up a little bit, so right after the sun goes under the horizon, a bit of green light can still be seen a bit longer. It doesn't really cause a flash, though. Just a faint green shimmer for a second or two.

5:55 I love how even Barbosa was trying to figure out where she hid that. 31:52 perfect casting with Keith Richards as Captain Teague and Jack Sparrow’s dad. Especially since they look similar. 38:22 Jack was smart there getting Jones to show him where the key is. I think Jack just plans things and hopes they work out. 42:49 those are the two British soldiers. You first saw them in the first one debating with Jack about the Black Pearl and saving Elizabeth from drowning. They were the British version of the pirate with the wooden eye and his buddy. They decided to join the winning side.
when jack pulls out a bigger telescope you can almost see barbosa break character or maybe it was intentionally but you can see a a smile at the corner of his lips XDD
It's a little cheesier than its predecessors but still ridiculously fun and entertaining with a spectacular climax.
As I got older I also notice that even that beautiful, Will and Elizabeth had a really tragic "ending". That scene at the beach is really beautiful.
And the music man, oh the music of this film !! What Ennio Morricone did for westerns, Hans Zimmer did for pirates. All the three films have a superb soundtrack but the man was just ON FIRE when he was composing the score for this one. So epic, so emotional and so memorable... Easily on my top 3 soundtracks of all time.
It's not a flawless film in the end of course, but I really love this one, it's was an excellent way to end the trilogy, at least the trilogy of movies that really matter.

I remember seeing this in an empty theater except for like 8 friends of mine... we were making cracks about how 9 pieces of 8 makes no mathematical sense. We were taking full advantage of an empty theater to be obnoxious and it was a ton of fun.

The tragic love story between Calypso and Davy Jones has always been my favorite lore in POTC. When Calypso says “It’s my nature.”, She say that she was wild and unpredictable as the sea. It’s possible on the one day after 10 years, she could’ve been with Davy Jones in her sea form instead of the human form that he wanted. “Malfaiteur en Tombeau, Crochir l’Esplanade, Dans l’Fond d’l’eau!”, the phrase Calypso yells out when she is freed from her bonds, roughly translates to “Across all the seas, find the path to he who wrongfully entombed me!". Also in the original Greek myth, Calypso is a sea nymph who is the daughter of the Titan Atlas. When the Titans lost the war against the Greek gods, she was punished for siding with her dad. Because she supported him in the war so the gods punished/cursed her that she would have to stay in Ogygia forever. Also Calypso’s real symbol was a dolphin not a crab. They did that because the crab is an octopus’ prey. 🐬🦀🌊🐙
